Matt Hogan here from MoveMe Quotes and thanks for tuning in!
This is Episode #7 of our MoveMe Quote of the week series
and let's jump right into it!
Our quote this week is from Philip McGraw and it's a quick one,
"Life is managed, not cured."
I've had several conversations this week with people who felt like
their life was out of whack.
Who felt an incredible amount of anxiety and stress
in trying to get their life "fixed" and trying to get "it" figured out.
But the thing about life is that life isn't an "it"—
Life is a vast array of, "its."
Life is filled with endless possibilities and choices that we have to make every day.
And it's something that we have to learn how to manage better; how to balance better...
Not how to fix.
So, once we come to terms with that reality
then what we need to do is ask ourselves the right question.
The right question isn't, "How can I fix my life?"
The right question is, "How can I manage my life better."
And the best way to do that is to find clarity in your priorities.
Once you have a clear set of priorities it's much easier to take action and move forward.
Fogginess in mind leads to wandering, leads to drifting, leads to stagnation, and inaction.
Once we have clarity we know what we have to do and we do it.
For example,
I manage a martial arts school
and I manage all of the martial art instructors that teach all of the different ages in the school
and so part of my job
is to make sure that the instructors are in their best state
and they're in their best position to help those students.
So, I give the instructors a very clear set of priorities
that I want them to follow before they even step foot on the mat to teach.
My instructors know
that family comes first,
school and work—like self-improvement work—comes second,
training in martial arts comes third,
and then teaching in martial arts comes forth.
It's a very clear set of priorities that helps all of us
take better actions—if there's a family emergency then that presides
over everything else and that's what should be addressed first.
If there's a family gathering or a family occasion that would be meaningful to attend
then that's what presides first.
Second priority is schooling and education—self-education.
So if the instructors are in higher education—if they're in college
and they're trying to balance out courses with teaching,
then that's the second priority they need to make sure their self-education comes second
because they can only teach as good as they are.
And the better they become, the better instructor they'll be.
So that's always the second priority is getting your self-work done.
Third priority is training in martial arts,
Because you can't be a great martial arts instructor if you're not a great martial artist.
The last priority in this circumstance is then teaching.
It's a very clear set of priorities
it keeps the instructors on an optimal path
and it keeps everybody in balance
because we cover for each other when one of those other priorities
are in need or one of those other priorities fall in place for those
instructors to be called out.
So, what I recommend
is that you find a similar clarity
for other areas in your life.
What are your priorities and how does the list go?
What's your priority for family and work and self-improvement and training?
How do those priorities fall in your list?
And once you can clearly set them
then all you have to do is divvy up your time accordingly.
Make sure that you're...
if family is a priority, then your family is getting time divvied up to them.
If work is a priority then, or self-work is a priority —self-improvement—
then your self-improvement is getting a priority, is getting your time.
and so on and so forth.
Wherever you divvy up your time is ultimately how you're gonna end up spending your life.
So make sure that your daily priorities are a reflection
of how you want your life to be spent.
So, that's the thought for this week,
I hope you enjoyed this quote and I hope you enjoyed the thoughts that we're provoked from it.
If you enjoyed it, let us know by hitting that thumbs up button!
...Always appreciated.
And let us know in the comment section below what you thought...
Let us know what your priority list is and how you move forward in life with
clarity or let us know if you're having a hard time if you're struggling.
Maybe one of us can step in and help out and create a conversation that matters;
that might inspire somebody else.
So, thanks for watching!
And I look forward to seeing you guys again next week!
Take care.
