Waching daily Feb 20 2019

- Morning Trainiacs.

We've got ourselves a super Saturday workout.

Look.

It is so large that this is what we've got.

We have some BioSteel workout hydrator with amino acids,

my usual SOS, we've got a Coke for just before the run,

we got four boxes of chews, gettin' the gut ready

to accept a little bit of sugar,

and beyond that, I've called in reinforcements.

Right over here, set up a little Zwift setup

for buddy Rod that's comin' over.

Three hour bike, twenty five minute run,

race simulation four weeks out

from Half Ironman Puerto Rico's underweight.

Let's do it.

(upbeat music)

Woo.

(machine whirring) Whoa.

(bass music) Wah who wow wow wow.

I say this ever week that I do a race simulation workout.

That was hard.

Three hours, the main chunk being five times twenty minutes

at or above race effort at 230 watts,

and for context, I'm 155 pounds,

(exhales)

and then, twenty five minutes of running,

starting just above race pace,

backing it off after 3K, just below race pace.

Averaging a 4:27 per kilometer pace.

Okay, I'm going to hit the sauna

and today...

(exhales)

I actually want NTK to take over

because she's going through something

as far as her own fitness journey

I think is way more interesting than

what I'm going through right now

that I think all of you should know.

It's good stuff.

It's like feel good stuff.

(chains clanking and footsteps)

- [NTK] Pete.

- [Taren] There we go.

Alright, today's video's brought to you by Pete.

So, you have developed this persona that I have given you

and you have adopted of being NTK,

the no triathlon Kim.

But I don't think people realize

that that's not because you are a non sporty person.

Between the two of us, you're probably more sporty.

Explain your fitness levels eleven years ago.

- [NTK] I worked out at the gym six days a week

and I played Ultimate Frisbee four nights a week

and did a lot of team sport,

other type team sport stuff

like Beach Volleyball, and that sort of stuff.

- [Taren] What body part were you most proud of?

- [NTK] I had some flat abs.

- [Taren] Didn't you say arms?

- [NTK] Oh yes, triceps, really awesome triceps, yeah.

- [Taren] So, that said, let's fast forward

to the last month.

You did an Instagram story yesterday

talking about how you've been doing stuff.

(background chattering)

- [NTK] Some big deal guys.

Super big deal actually.

So February 15th is the ten year anniversary

of the day I got sick.

I was healthy and felt great before that

and then I woke up one morning on February 15th

ten years ago 2009, thought I had the flu,

but it turns out dormant Lyme Disease became activated

and I became very, very sick.

And I've been battling that for ten years.

I'm still battling a lot of the damage that it did,

even though I'm way healthier than I was

for a really long time.

A lot of people may not have know how sick I was

because I kept getting dressed

and putting on my makeup and working

and doing all the things we do

but it was really hard, like the hardest.

So, anyway, after that length of time

where even just getting dressed in the morning is challenge,

and believe me, it was a challenge,

I decided recently that I'm a lot better

and it's time to get moving again

because I miss the person I used to be

and so I've been doing little bits

and I decided to see how long I could run,

not on a treadmill,

because that's somewhat assisted I guess,

but on the track

at Sydney Commons Recreation Complex this morning

and I just did ten minutes.

And that my friends, is something I did not expect

that I could do.

I just want to add that that was a miserable ten minutes.

I felt terrible, my calves hurt, I hated it,

I almost quit after the first minute.

I almost quit after the second minute.

I almost quit every minute but I did it.

I didn't quit so I feel really good now

and yeah, body's capable of a lot I guess.

Not my body, like everybody's body.

- [Taren] Besides that ten minute run yesterday,

what have you been doing for the past six months?

- [NTK] Well, I started last summer

cycling to work, somewhat.

Just based on where I was working at the time

it was close and wast to do so

and that was my first real foray

into any kind of fitness in a long time.

And then, the fall came around,

and just you know, walking the dogs

and going for small bike rides,

I wasn't doing much,

and then, when you started your travels in January,

traveling for Master Class production,

I was out with the dogs for a walk one evening

and I don't know what possessed me,

but I just decided to run a minute,

walk a minute for ten minutes,

or twenty minutes I guess,

and I did that and it felt not like horrible horrible,

and I said, "Oh, maybe I'll do that again."

And so I did it a couple times

and then I did a couple runs on your treadmill back there

in your pain cave,

and yesterday you went to the pool and you said,

"wanna come walk on the track?"

And I was like "yeah, why not?"

So, I just started running and I don't know why, but I did.

- [Taren] Gets kinda a little sad.

- [NTK] Oh. - Well, happy.

- [NTK] Don't be sad.

I ran for ten minutes.

- [Taren] What makes me happy is you are feeling good enough

after like ten years we've been together.

- [NTK] Well, no, we've been together

a little less than that cause I got sick

just about two years before I met you.

- [Taren] Wow, so, nine years that we would go to Kona

and even at the finish line of Kona--

- [NTK] Oh yeah, that first year on our honeymoon.

- [Taren] First year we went.

- [NTK] I had to sit on the sidewalk

with my head between my knees cause I couldn't--

- [Taren] You couldn't watch the podium finishers

because you're so--

- [NTK] Sick? - [Taren] Yeah, so sick.

Two things people are going to ask

are does this mean you're doing a triathlon?

- [NTK] No, cause you know what,

I don't like getting my hair wet, people.

- [Taren] And that's okay

but do you have a fitness goal?

- [NTK] Ooh, fitness goal?

Um, I mean, I don't know how long away I am

from being at 100%.

I don't know if I'll ever by 100% per say.

I don't know if I'll ever get to be

as healthy as I used to be.

You don't know what kind of permanent damage has been done

but fitness goal...

Well, I'd like to be able to run for about 20 minutes.

Cause that would be interesting.

Although, as I said in my Instagram stories,

I couldn't run for twenty minutes before I got sick.

So the fact I ran for ten is like something's goin' on.

But I don't have a goal like you do.

Like you wanna do a full or whatever.

I think my goal would just be cool to run for twenty.

I'd like to get back into the gym

doing weights on a regular basis.

I know, we have a lot of weights at our place here.

- [Taren] What were the few things that really helped you?

- [NTK] Fortunately, I've worked

with a couple of outstanding naturopathic doctors,

using sort of cutting edge stuff to do with herbals

and what not.

Some other really off the wall alternative stuff.

Bioresonance, a lot of people may or may not

have heard of that.

Rife is another term for that.

That was huge in my recovery.

A lot of people think it's snake oil.

I know it worked for me.

But everybody's Lyme journey's different.

I just try to go about my day

and do the things I have to do

and I don't say when I feel terrible.

You don't know most of the time when I feel terrible

cause I just don't want it to become your identity

and I never wanted to stop doing stuff.

Sometimes you have to give me a kick in the butt

because it can overwhelm you and overtake you.

- [Taren] Note to spouses of people with Lyme,

a kick in the butt does not help.

(laughing)

Last question, how much do you like my backwards hat?

- [NTK] I hate it.

It looks ridiculous.

- Good. - The only people

who should wear a backwards hat is a catcher in baseball.

You look ridiculous.

- [Taren] My beard is getting really full.

The hat's nice.

- [NTK] Hate it, it's a bad hat.

- [Taren] It's good.

- [NTK] It's gonna disappear.

- [Taren] That is all.

- [NTK] You might smell like gravy.

- [Taren] That is all.

I happy.

- [NTK] Twenty minutes is the goal I guess.

- [Taren] Now you have to end it with--

- [NTK] I don't know what you say at the end of videos.

- [Taren] You don't, you don't watch my videos?

- [NTK] I watch all of the videos all the way through.

- [Taren] You gotta say.

(sighing) - Later Trainiacs,

like and subscribe if you haven't already.

- [Taren] I don't say that.

Later Trainiacs. - Bye Trainiacs.

The Galaxy S10e is the Best Galaxy S10 - Duration: 5:23.

- Hey guys, this is Austin.

Today Samsung unveiled their brand new

Galaxy S10 lineup of phones,

and while when you look at that Galaxy S10,

it's a lot of phone,

but it's also a lot of money at $1000.

And then there's this, the Galaxy S10E,

which is a new, cheaper version

of the Galaxy S10.

As far as I'm concerned,

it is the one to get.

So as you might know,

I have been using the iPhone XR recently.

Now as you might imagine from behind me here,

you can see that they've been really pushing it,

but that's for good reason.

Not only is this the budget iPhone,

but as far as I'm concerned, it's the better one.

It's got better battery life,

and the cuts you make save 200, 300 dollars,

seem totally worth it to me.

Samsung is doing something similar with the 10E.

It's $750, coincidentally the same price as the XR,

and the same $250 cheaper than their highest end S10 model.

It does make a lot of sense for I think most people.

What you're getting here

is a slightly smaller 5.8 inch display.

Now it is only 1080p as apposed to 1440p.

I don't know what that was,

but I'm gonna continue going.

But the important thing here

is that while you lose a little bit of resolution,

as far as I was able to tell,

it still looks really nice and sharp.

And something else you loose are

the curved infinity edges on the display,

and that's something I actually do kind of like.

It's been around all the way back since like what?

The Galaxy Note Edge.

But the most important thing here,

is that all of the cuts they've done to this E

are very reasonable.

It's small stuff that you're really not gonna miss.

Now it's kind of hard to show on camera,

but the 10E is actually a fair bit smaller

than even something like the Galaxy S9, the S10,

and especially the iPhone XR.

As far as I'm concerned, bring it on.

I love high end, compact flagships.

Similar to something like the Pixel 3.

It's a really sort of unique size,

and especially with that full-size display, it looks nice.

Something the 10E does lack

compared to it's higher-end brothers

is an in display fingerprint sensor.

Instead the fingerprint sensor is paired

with the power button on the side of the phone,

and from my brief hands-on it seems fine,

it's not something I'm going to miss that much,

but if that's something you wanna

show off to your friends with,

go spend $250 to do that.

Spec wise, you're not giving anything up

by going with the 10E.

You still get that same Snapdragon 855,

and while the base model does have

six gigs of RAM, and 128 gigs of storage,

the higher end eight gigs with 256 gig model,

has pretty much the same spec as the S10, the S10 Plus,

not counting the crazy, much ultra very,

super-duper expensive 12 gigabyte,

titanium, one terabyte model,

but we're just gonna ignore that.

That's like double the price of the 10E,

so we're just gonna.

It's fine, it's fast, it's fine.

The main camera sensor is very similar

to what you got on the Galaxy S9.

So you do have the dual apertures,

you've got the dual pixel auto focus.

You're really not gonna see a major difference here,

although apparently it is a new sensor.

What has been added to all the Galaxy S10 models,

is a new ultra wide angle camera.

Now as always with these things,

you do lose a little bit of quality,

but what you gain is an incredibly wild, wild?

Wide field of view.

I guess it could be wild too.

A little exciting, a little dangerous, a little wild.

Now the higher models do have a third

telephoto camera, which is nice,

but I mean, I don't know.

That's one of those things

where I always find the quality is so far off

that it doesn't make a huge difference to me.

Now upfront, you do have

the same 10 megapixel front-acing camera.

It's nice and wide, and from what I was able to tell,

it looks pretty nice.

But again, if you go all the way up to the S10 Plus,

you are going to be getting

that secondary front-facing camera,

but I mean, eh.

So when it comes to the rest of the good stuff,

the S10E has it.

So we still have a headphone jack,

because Samsung for some reason actually listens,

that's pretty impressive.

There's also WiFi 6 onboard,

which is about 20% faster,

and should give you much faster response time.

And on top of all of that,

you do still have stereo speakers,

even though you have the hole-punch display.

There's a tiny driver on the top of the panel,

and even on the 10E, I've gotta say,

it sounds pretty good.

There is a cool feature

in that you an wirelessly charge

straight from the Galaxy S10.

All you need to do is turn on the setting,

and then once you put another phone on the back of yours,

it will use Qi charging

to wirelessly charge that other phone.

Now that's a super cool feature.

The down side though

is that the Galaxy S10E only has

about a 3100 milliamp hour battery.

Now that should be fine,

Samsung still quotes it as a 24 hour battery life phone,

but especially after spending so much time with the XR,

where the battery really is the strong suit,

I don't have high expectations with the 10E.

I really hope that

that Snapdragon 855 is super efficient,

because otherwise it's going to be, probably,

average, decent, but I guess we'll see.

Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup

will be going on sale on March 8th.

Now the thing is the 10E

really is the one that gets me the most excited.

Now sure, the other phones are cool,

and you are getting more features,

but when you consider how much more expensive they are,

it's kind of hard to justify the price.

Whereas as far as I'm concerned,

I like that small size.

I like the yellow, because I'm a sucker for yellow.

And most importantly,

hi, can you be in my video for a second?

- Yeah.

What you need buddy?

- Should you buy a Galaxy S10, an S10E,

an S10 Plus, or save your money

and buy a Palm phone?

- Wow, Palm phone it is.

- Okay cool, anyway.

Thank you guys so much for watching.

I appreciate it.

If you guys wanna catch any more on the Galaxy S10E,

or some of the other phones that are coming out soon,

make sure to subscribe to the channel.

Anyway guys, I'm going to go

hang out at the Apple store

'cause it's right in the background

and I thought it would be funny

for our Samsung video.

Is Eugenia Cooney Lying About Getting Help for Anorexia After her Kingdom Hearts Cosplay? - Duration: 11:24.

going through my comments I've seen quite a few comments that believe

Eugenia Cooney is actually lying about going and getting help and this is

actually a really important topic that we need to talk about what is up

everybody this is Chris from the rewired so where we talk about the problem but

focus on the solution and if you're new to my channel my channel is all about

mental health and what I like to do is pull different topics from the YouTube

community to try to teach you how to improve your mental and emotional

well-being so any of that stuff make sure you subscribe and bring that

notification belt and do not forget this Saturday yes this Saturday I am doing a

charity livestream at 10:00 a.m. where we are raising money for the

organization that that Tayla is donating to to help give women you know beauty

supplies and hygiene products and all of that who are less fortunate so I will be

on stream doing myself up to look all pretty and all donations will be going

over to that teyla and her the organization that she's supporting

anyways yeah let's talk about this thing going on where people think Eugenia

Cooney is lying about getting help so I do want to start out this video with

something that I often say you know this video is not for you junior Cooney like

at the end of it day at the end of the day and don't get it twisted I am of no

delusion like this is none of our business none of my business what she is

doing right like yes we could want to help yes we could do that but at the end

of the day she's gonna be doing her thing but I wanted to discuss this

because this is actually something that I've struggled with in the past and I

know it's something that many of you have probably struggled with or you have

a loved one who is struggling with this and this is two different topics one of

them is lying about getting help and the other one is just getting help to get

people off your back so those of you who aren't caught up to speed you know to

give you some context Eugenia Cooney you know allegedly is struggling with an

eating disorder even though she has a I'm excited anyways about a week ago on

Twitter she said hey I'm gonna go see a doctor and all this and myself as well

as cribs in studios we did a collab discussing this way in from crimson

studios he's in recovery from an eating disorder I highly recommend you go check

out his videos if you have somebody struggling with an eating disorder or

you're in recovery like go check out his videos they are amazing I love that dude

he's doing awesome by anyways like I mentioned in the comment section there

are people who think that she might be lying about this so like yeah this is

something that that does happen with people and you might have done this or

you know you might know somebody who has done this so I'll try to talk about both

aspects of it but for me personally as many of you

know I'm a drug addict and alcoholic in recovery I've been clean for about six

and a half years and there were times when I was lying about getting help so

like for example when I was put into a sober living home when I first got clean

like we it was mandatory that we went to five 12-step meetings a week and I was

like this is stupid this is dumb I don't want to go up in

these meetings have people talk about their problems and whine and complain or

like trying to tell me all these things like you know and it was part of my

illness and there's part of a lot of mental illnesses where that that illness

talks you and says you don't need help and I want to separate you from people

so what I was doing was I wasn't going to meetings now with forged signatures

right but here's the thing at the end of the day like at the end of the day the

only person I was hurting was myself and like the reason I was just like God was

because man this is something I try to teach people like some of us have like

that defiance in us like we're wrong I'm gonna do my own thing no matter what and

here's the thing at the end of the day the only person we are hurting is

ourselves so in the context of Eugenia Cooney let's say let's say

hypothetically she was lying about this like that doesn't affect us right it

would be on her this is something that I came to realize so for example I had a

sponsor who I was you know I had to call every single day

and then I didn't call him and all that stuff and then eventually like I ended

up calling him and I felt terrible and all these other things and he was fine

and that's what realize I'm like oh this is only hurting

me it's not hurting him so trust me trust me like like I talked about in the

podcast that mad mad - unsolicited advice like I don't lose any sleep over

this stuff like you guys I am just here to provide you with tools and resources

tell you to go get therapy go see a doctor

join support groups whatever it is right but like if you don't do those things if

you don't take the help that I'm offering you or the hope that other

people are offering you that is on you all right something that I had to come

to terms with was if I wasn't getting help I am choosing to stay in misery

like so many people so many people struggling with different disorders like

our stubbornness and our ego is our biggest freakin enemy and I know you

could probably relate like think about your own stubbornness right now think

about how your ego gets involved and tells you you don't need help you don't

need to listen to anybody you don't need to listen to this dumb idiot on YouTube

telling you to go get help right let's think about that and ask yourself is

this helping you or is it hurting you right because when I sat back and I

analyzed what was going on with me I realized that it was just hurting me

alright so well it is a scenario that nobody can confirm like her friend dirty

Dan his video he says that she is getting help and all of that but here's

something that I didn't talk about in my other video about should we still be

worried about Eugenia Cooney and that is just getting help to get people off your

back and this is something that I did and again it was only hurting me like

the first time I got sober the first time I got sober basically I called up

my kids mom because she had left and was staying at my mom's house because she

was sick and tired of me it's threatening to move back to Las Vegas

with my son we were living in California at the time finally I called her up and

I said listen if it will shut you up I will go get help right so all the only

I was getting help was to get her off my back and guess what happened three

months later I relapsed alright because I was I was doing it with the wrong

intentions and sometimes we do that and like and even this last time that I got

sober six and a half years ago I was just doing it to shut people up I was

like fine I'll do it like I had no intention on staying sober no intention

at all I was gonna get the heat off me and then whenever I felt like it

whenever I felt like the coast was clear I was gonna go back to slowly killing

myself again it was only hurting me and this is why I preach you know personal

accountability and all of that you know what I mean so a couple things like

what's the solution to all this what is the solution so what about one of them

is for all of us like we need to get better because we want to this is one of

the trickiest parts about mental illness is that we cannot stay better unless we

want to okay and like this this doesn't matter if it's addiction if it's an

eating disorder if it's depression if it's an anxiety like disorder like what

do you want to do do you want to get better are you sick and tired of living

the way that you're living like do you want things to get better do you believe

that things can get better if you don't believe things can get better watch my

other video about the ego and the plus minus equals technique right like find

other people who have gotten better right and just like look to them and use

their hope for a little while like that's what I had to do now don't get me

wrong as somebody who has struggled with depression for many years there are many

days when I didn't want to get better for me and on those days because we do

this thing one day at a time we work on our addiction or eating disorder or

depression or anxiety our PTSD or whatever we work on that one day at a

time and on what on certain days when I didn't want to get better for me because

I hated myself I looked at a picture of my son or I looked at my friends I

looked at my family I was like you know what today I'm gonna stay better for you

sometimes even doing this YouTube channel I'm staying well for all of you

guys I have to work on my mental health

because I know some of you need to hear a message of hope all right but the

other solution to this is especially if you you have a loved one who you feel is

not getting well for the right reasons or whatever it is do not lose hope do

not lose hope like I said like when I share my story I did not want to get

better I did not want to I was ready to die okay and by just keep like I kept

going and kept going and kept going and then something clicked and then simply

something clicked so even in Eugenia Cooney's case let's say again a

hypothetical cuz I don't freaking know Eugenia but a hypothetical let's say she

was just doing this to get people to shut up and get off her back for a while

maybe maybe she's going to hear something that just clicks and she's

gonna want to stay well right so if you have a loved one who's getting help or

they're in treatment right now or seeing a therapist or whatever it is just like

do your best to have a little bit of faith because I've seen it so many times

and I'm living proof I'm living proof about some of somebody who didn't want

to get better but then something happened and I decided that I wanted to

stay better and now I live this amazing life today so if you don't have faith in

yourself or you don't believe in yourself and you don't have hope in

yourself just know that I do I know I know

through years of working with people who have had far worse experiences than me

right I know for a fact that there is no such thing as a hopeless case all right

but anyways anyways let me know down in the comments below if you're somebody in

recovery from anxiety depression eating disorder addictions whatever it is like

was over a point where you decided to just like go see a therapist just to

shut everybody out or go get help just to shut everybody up and then what

happened to motivate you to continue working on yourself or or that could be

another question what what inspires you what motivates you to get better and

keep working on yourself are you doing it for yourself are you doing it for

others by the way I'm not saying doing it for others is wrong it's just

sometimes that's not stainable that's all I'm saying all

right anyways let's have the conversation down to the comments below

anyways if you like this video please give it a thumbs up if you're new make

sure you subscribe and ring that notification but make sure you're here

Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and I do my makeup and we raise some money for a

good cause alright and I want to say the huge huge thank you to everybody

supporting the channel over on patreon you are all amazing and I've done some

new post over on patreon so if you're on patreon go check that out if you want to

become a patron you clear your top right there alright thank you so so much for

The most disheartening thing about being a Youtube Creator is... - Duration: 3:19.

- I'm uploading my latest video, and I'm pumped!

I'm always pumped, though, so it's really nothing new.

Upload complete!

Now we wait.

What the--

(rock music)

(alarm ringing)

(pensive music)

Good morning, all!

I'm not really a morning person, but I'll try.

Ya know what we need?

Coffee! (liquid pours)

(sighs contentedly) Better.

Now, let's get to YouTube.

I always have this list of ideas on my phone for videos.

The hard part is figuring out which to do.

Will the people like this one, or this one?

This is the one!

So here we are at the computer, blank Word doc open,

and I start to type, and type, and type.

Whoo, done!

O-M-G, this is a hot mess!

Revision one.

And done!

Yes!

Now, let's shoot.

So I'll get to the site and shoot.

Depending on the subject I'm focusing on,

it usually takes a few hours to most of my day.

When I finish, you know how we end it.

Peace and love.

Peace and love.

Peace and love.

Now, the edit.

I'm usually feeling pretty good

while I'm dumping all my footage into Premiere Pro.

Then, it hits me.

Yikes, how much footage did I shoot?!

Depending on what I shot, I could have

Done!

I'm uploading my latest video, and I'm pumped!

I'm always pumped, though, so it's really nothing new.

Now, we wait.

What the--

This could be one of the most disheartening things

about YouTube: someone dislikes your work.

It can make you want to give up.

Another thing that can get to you is views,

like I just spent an entire day making this video,

and two days later, it's struggling over 50 views.

So why do I continue?

It's about this: making videos I love,

making videos to document our lives

so we can look back on them.

And heck, making videos so my kids

and my kids' kids can look back on them.

Making videos for people who find them on YouTube

and find they're useful but might not be subscribed yet,

making videos for you awesome subscribers out there,

and if you're thinking about making it on YouTube

or making YouTube videos, keep these in mind:

do something you're interested in,

tell your story 'cause that's the most important thing.

I love my videos, and I hope you do, too.

Thanks a lot for watching, guys.

Peace and love.

Nederland zegt nee tegen Donald Trump: 'IS-strijders in Irak berechten!' - Duration: 4:14.

Goed nieuws!

FOX TV - Ruffer made 23% in the 2008 crash, so where is it investing now? - Duration: 9:03.

You will have heard the line about keeping your head when others are losing theirs, but do you know about the investment trust that made 23 per cent when shares crashed 30 per cent during the financial crisis?Ruffer investment company is one of the funds that tries to emulate the famous opening line of Rudyard Kipling's poem If

It's aim is 'consistent positive returns, regardless of how the financial markets perform', which in practical terms it says means, 'we try not to lose money in any 12 month period, and to grow the value of our investors' wealth over the long haul

'So how does Ruffer do that? What were the investments that meant it outperformed the UK stock market by 50 per cent in 2008? And could it pull that trick off again? Ruffer's co-manager Duncan MacInnes joins Simon Lambert and Richard Hunter on the Investing Show to explain where the investment trust is invested now and how it positions itself to protect investors when a stock market storm becomes a hurricane

This defensive position means that when markets are rising, Ruffer will tend to lag behind but when things turn bad it should be better placed to weather the storm

Its aim is not to match stock market performance but to deliver long-term inflation-beating returns in a less volatile manner

Over the past three years things have been tough, with just an average 3.4 per cent annual return, but taken over the longer-term it has delivered average annual gains of 7

2 per cent over ten years.Duncan tells us why what is important is not which correction it is that eventually turns into a big drop, but knowing that one eventually will - and being prepared for that

He also talks us through where Ruffer sees opportunities, and why these like Japan and gold miners usually lie in what people would term value investments

However, one of the trust's top holdings is also Ocado – and he explains why the Ruffer managers believe despite its relatively high price it could still be undervalued

Weathering the storm in 2008 and profiting in 2009 set Ruffer up to outperform the FTSE All Share over the past 15 years, but could it pull that trick off again? RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next MINOR INVESTOR: If you're worried the stock market storm

Psychologist explains why Trader Joe's is outperforming the competition in sales per square footage - Duration: 4:47.

Apsychologist and author of the book, 'The Paradox of Choice,' has explained why Trader Joe's is raking in the money, over its competitors like Whole Foods

Barry Schwartz, 72  explained how the grocery story has managed to outsell its competition like Whole Foods by more than double, in terms of revenue as compared to square footage of its stores, by keeping things simple

'When you give people too many options, they get paralyzed instead of liberated,' Schwartz told Business Insider's Jack Houston, in an interview published on Tuesday

But Schwartz doesn't think the chain has done it on purpose. The simple model of the store founded by Joe Coulombe has always been quality over quantity

'They probably did it as a way of controlling costs,' Schwartz said of what has turned out to be a lucky business model for Trader Joe's

'Managing inventory, you know, simplifying the supply chain. And somebody thought that if you offered other kinds of value, people would be willing to forgo options

'You can't have everything but anything we've got is worth having and we make your life simpler

' Schwartz knows what he's talking about, because he's made the study of choice his life's work

'I've spent the last 25 years studying how people make decisions,' the psychologist said

You might think that the more] choice we have, the better off we are. That turns out empirically not to be true

' Schwartz added: 'I think Trader Joe's is the best example of how the world should be constructed

' Other ways Trader Joe's keeps costs down, and consequently, profits up, is by privately labeling the fewer products it does offer on its shelves

By buying straight from the supplier the company is able to turn a profit without paying a premium for third party branding

The decidedly low-tech grocer does all of this without an online store or customer loyalty programs, and also never runs sales

All in all, what they're doing is working, as Trader Joe's brought in $13.3billion during its 2016-2017 fiscal year, according to Supermarket News

By October of 2017, the chain had 470 stores in the US, according to ProgressiveGrocer

com.In contrast, Whole Foods Markets brought in a total of $16.03 billion during its fiscal year 2017, according to AmigoBulls

The Amazon-owned grocer had a total of 412 US locations by the end of 2017, eMarket Retail reported

The current average Whole Foods Market store size is about 38,000 square feet, according to Brand Channel, while the typical size of a Trader Joe's location ranges from 8,000-15,000 square feet, according to Food Navigator-USA

Opinion Why Michelle Obama Is Everything The New York Times - Duration: 3:40.

Opinion Why Michelle Obama Is Everything The New York Times

Shes adored in part because shes always been transparent about her lifes tensions. Her memoir is just the latest example.

By Stacia Brown

Ms. Brown is a writer and podcast host.

A few days before the release of I went to look at her portrait at the National Portrait Gallery to reflect on her evolving role in public life, and to talk to other women who were doing the same.

The book, published on Tuesday, has been described as offering a more personal invitation into her life than any shes previously extended. Early reviews praise her discussion of her miscarriage and of her use of in vitro fertilization for its potential to fight stigma about reproductive problems that go under discussed especially among black women.

As I approached the image of Mrs. Obama as Amy Sherald has rendered her, she stared right back at me, her hand propped under her chin, wry but not quite inviting. In a stark contrast to the memoir, this is not an image of the former first lady at her most accessible.

But thats no bar to the strong connection that the women I met gathering around her portrait feel. Here, with her hanging just over their shoulder, they echo one anothers unreserved awe, calling Mrs. Obama beautiful, inspiring, and so important. I hear similar refrains again and again: I love her, Shes stunning, or We miss her.

The brand of transparency offered in the book — the kind Mrs. Obama often had to temper during her time as first lady — is a reminder of what made women like us feel so deeply endeared to her in the first place.

Long before the publication of Becoming, shed sometimes hint at the friction just under her surface. In the earliest days of Barack Obamas first term, she seemed deeply in love yet vaguely dissatisfied, subjected to a public gaze shed never courted, in a position that may have felt, at times, constrictive for someone with a Princeton and Harvard Law pedigree.

Though she appeared to have it all, she seemed uninterested in perpetuating that myth that such a thing is possible. Bringing her own mother into the White House to help care for her daughters was a very public confession that she would not only be needing assistance, but she would prefer if that help came from someone she trusted to keep her recognizable to herself. This was even as she was transforming into the kind of figure whose official portrait would draw hordes of admirers to an alcove on the Portrait Gallerys third floor.

All of this is subtext as a group of girlfriends point at Mrs. Obamas portrait and say teasingly, There goes your queen! All of this is part of what fuels middle aged sisters and mothers of young daughters to art direct smartphone photos in front of the painting until each has their own perfect image.

Fourteen year old Camryn Redding of Baltimore told me she felt inspired that somebody like me can be in a museum like this, showing that its not just for people with a lighter skin color, its for me, too. I think shes empowering. I think that shes a really great example for black women everywhere. And I think she did amazing things in the White House while she was there.

Visitors described her to me in the familiar terms that pepper social media posts about her: regal, elegant, and just … perfection. As Debra Storm of Lehigh, Pa, said, no matter what Mrs. Obama had to endure, she was always elegant, perfect, intelligent.

She earned the astral interpretation we see on that wall over the course of a decade spent rising above the racist, sexist political fray. She — through her openness as well as her achievements — has earned the adoration of these women, too.

First, I love me some Michelle Obama. Shes such an inspiration to womanhood. Shes smart. Shes classy. Shes everything I want to emulate and aspire to be, said Margaret Garcia, who had traveled from the Bronx. A few beats later, the coda: Shes everything.

Everything — as the new book reminds us — has many parts. Yes, it includes role model behavior and a flawless image. But Mrs. Obama wouldnt be everything without a long history of the kind of transparency about the less perfect parts of her life thats earned the memoir such high praise.

I love Ms. Sheralds Vogue cover worthy vision, as lofty and queenly and pensive. I also love the early era first lady who was unguarded and a little gaffe prone, once Freudian slipping in a CBS News interview that she was a busy single mom before quickly adding, Sometimes, when youve got the husband whos president, it can feel a little single, but hes there! I love todays version: the woman who reveals — not in a slip up but intentionally in writing — that becoming a mother isnt always easy.

In fact, nothing has come to Michelle Obama easily. Shes just maintained enough grace under pressure to make it appear so. During her first four years in Washington, she would occasionally signal that the role of a first lady, when performed regally, elegantly and perfectly, could be exhausting, exasperating and lonely. By the end of her husbands second term, she was gliding across the stage at Hillary Clinton campaign rallies, uttering what would become one of the most ubiquitous catchphrases of 2016, When they go low, we go high, wearing the first lady mantle as comfortably as a second skin.

Shes grown into her role so beautifully that its easy to forget — or perhaps, its easy to need a revealing memoir to remember — that there were any growing pains at all.
