Michael Cohen Agrees to Testify Next Week, Setting Stage for a High Stakes Hearing The New York Ti - Duration: 4:18.

Michael Cohen Agrees to Testify Next Week, Setting Stage for a High Stakes Hearing The New York Ti

WASHINGTON — Michael D. Cohen has agreed to testify in public next Wednesday before Congress about his work as President Trumps personal lawyer and longtime fixer, but lawmakers said they would limit the scope of their questioning in deference to the special counsel.

The hearing next week before the House Oversight and Reform Committee will give Mr. Cohen, once one of Mr. Trumps most loyal aides, a rare public platform to try to explain his work for the president, including an illegal scheme during the 2016 campaign to pay hush money to two women claiming to have had affairs with Mr. Trump. And it promises to provide House Democrats investigating Mr. Trump, his business and his administration with early fireworks to punctuate their efforts.

But Mr. Cohen — who has pleaded guilty to lying to Congress, tax fraud and a campaign finance violation in the hush money scheme — will also face intense scrutiny from Republicans, who have already indicated that they plan to aggressively challenge his past work and credibility as a witness against the president.

The committees chairman indicated that after consultation with the Justice Department and the House Intelligence Committee, Mr. Cohen would not be allowed to discuss matters related to Russia, including a proposed Trump Tower project in Moscow under scrutiny by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III.

Congress has an obligation under the Constitution to conduct independent and robust oversight of the executive branch, and this hearing is one step in that process, the chairman, Representative Elijah E. Cummings, Democrat of Maryland, said in a statement announcing the rescheduled hearing.

In released late Wednesday, Mr. Cummings outlined 10 topics that he said would be addressed, including the presidents debts and payments relating to efforts to influence the 2016 election and his compliance with federal tax and campaign finance laws. Other topics were more open ended, including Mr. Trumps business practices and possible conflicts of interest, as well as the accuracy of the presidents public statements.

Lanny J. Davis, one of Mr. Cohens lawyers, that his client intended to share personal, front line experiences of memories, and incidents, and conduct, and comments that Donald Trump said over that 10 year time period behind closed doors.

Mr. Cohen had intimate access to Mr. Trump as a businessman and during the 2016 presidential campaign. But since he came under the scrutiny of federal investigators, Mr. Cohen has implicated Mr. Trump in court in the hush money scheme and spent more than 70 hours with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York and those working for Mr. Mueller.

On Twitter on Wednesday, Mr. Cohen said he was Looking forward to the American people hearing my story in my voice! He included a link to a GoFundMe page raising money for the Michael Cohen Truth Fund.

The public hearing is one of three sessions Mr. Cohen will have next week on Capitol Hill. He is also scheduled to participate in private deposition style interviews with the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, where he is likely to be pressed on matters pertaining to Russia and other potential efforts by foreign powers to gain influence over Mr. Trump. Mr. Cohen to lying to the two intelligence committees about the Trump Organization proposal to build a skyscraper in Moscow.

Before that, in August, Mr. Cohen in Manhattan to tax fraud, making false statements to a bank and the campaign finance violation. He said in court at the time that the last violation was the result of payments he made at Mr. Trumps behest during the 2016 campaign to two women to keep them from speaking publicly about affairs they said they had with Mr. Trump.

Mr. Cohen had been expected to report early next month to begin serving a three year prison sentence, but on Wednesday, that appearance by two months, to May 6. In requesting the delay, Mr. Cohens lawyers said he had undergone recent shoulder surgery and needed to take part in physical therapy.

If Democrats are hoping that Mr. Cohens testimony will damage Mr. Trumps public image, Republicans have been laying the groundwork to try to undercut Mr. Cohens credibility first. , the oversight committees top Republicans referred to Mr. Cohen as an admitted serial liar and accused the Democrats of putting on a political show.

When Cohen appears before our committee, we can only assume that he will continue his pattern of deceit and perjury, the Republicans, Representatives Jim Jordan of Ohio and Mark Meadows of North Carolina, wrote. Although Cohen falsely attributes his crimes to blind loyalty to Donald Trump, a federal judge correctly noted that Cohens crimes were all motivated by his personal greed and ambition.

Mr. Trump himself has repeatedly suggested that Mr. Cohen lied to prosecutors about him to reduce his own prison sentence. Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trumps lawyer, abruptly shifted his own assessment of Mr. Cohens honesty after Mr. Cohen pleaded guilty and began talking to prosecutors.

It was another comment by Mr. Trump — who during a Fox News interview in January cryptically called for Mr. Cohens father in law to be investigated — that prompted Mr. Cohen to initially postpone the oversight hearing, which was originally scheduled for Feb. 7.

Democrats seized on the threats, asserting that Mr. Cohen had been intimidated from testifying to Congress by the president — an action that could be construed as a crime. Mr. Trump denied that he had done anything of the sort.

Cuomo Proposes Free Tuition at New York State Colleges for Eligible Students The New York Times - Duration: 6:04.

Cuomo Proposes Free Tuition at New York State Colleges for Eligible Students The New York Times

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo seized on a potent issue that energized younger Democrats during the presidential race, pledging on Tuesday to cover tuition costs at state colleges for hundreds of thousands of middle and low income New Yorkers.

Under the governors plan, college students who have been accepted to a state or city university in New York — including two year community colleges — would be eligible, provided they or their family earn dollar 125,000 or less a year.

Mr. Cuomo, a Democratic centrist thought to have presidential ambitions, has tracked left on a series of issues during his second term, championing a higher minimum wage and paid family leave, though he continues to face criticism from some progressive groups over sometimes working closely with Senate Republicans.

Some of that criticism could be softened by Mr. Cuomos embrace of a plan that was so closely identified with Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who during the presidential primary campaign of surging college costs and collective student debt topping dollar 1 trillion.

Indeed, Mr. Cuomo unveiled his proposal at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens, alongside Mr. Sanders, who called the idea revolutionary.

That is a message that is going to provide hope and optimism for working class families all across the state, the senator said.

If Mr. Cuomos proposal goes forward, it will place New York at the forefront of such efforts; and have programs to cover the costs of community college. The governors plan would include four year schools, including dozens of campuses that are part of the state university system, as well as the citys university system — a once free network whose tuition has risen and over the last decade.

Under the proposal, the state would complete students tuition payments by supplementing existing state and federal grant programs — essentially covering the balance, though administration officials said some students could have their entire four year education covered.

In his remarks, the governor — who had endorsed and campaigned for Hillary Clinton, Mr. Sanderss opponent in the primary — picked up the senators mantle, arguing that student debt was crippling the prospects of generations of young Americans.

Its like starting a race with an anchor tied to your leg, Mr. Cuomo said, adding that many students in New York and elsewhere left college dollar 30,000 or more in debt.

This society should say, Were going to pay for college because you need college to be successful, he added. And New York State — New York State is going to do something about it.

Mr. Cuomo hopes for a quick start for his idea, with a three year rollout beginning in the fall, with a dollar 100,000 income limit, rising to dollar 125,000 by 2019, the administration billed as more speedy than the one embraced by Mrs. Clinton during her presidential campaign. On Twitter, she was delighted by the governors proposal, calling it a plan that she and Mr. Sanders had worked hard on.

Still, Mr. Cuomos plan would affect a far smaller pool of students than federal proposals. Initial estimates from the administration said the program would allow nearly a million New York families with college age children, or independent adults, to qualify. The actual number of students receiving tuition free education would probably be about 200,000 by the time it was fully enacted in 2019, according to Jim Malatras, the director of state operations.

It was likewise unclear how much the program would cost. The administration estimated that the states annual outlay would be dollar 163 million by 2019, though it acknowledged that estimate could be affected by participation and level of need.

There are some kids that arent getting anything right now that would be made whole, Mr. Malatras said. And some kids that are in the program, we would just fill in the gap.

New York already offers in state students tuition rates in the nation. Current full time tuition at four year State University of New York schools for is dollar 6,470; at two year community colleges, the cost is dollar 4,350. Full time costs for City University of New York schools are . The state also provides nearly dollar 1 billion in support through its , which has an adjusted gross income limit of just under dollar 100,000. Those awards top out at dollar 5,165; many grants are smaller.

Costs for the state could also rise as enrollment rises. Some 400,000 students attend state or city universities full time, but the administration projects that the lure of a tuition free system could increase the student population by 10 percent by 2019.

Estimates for other free tuition proposals have said that costs would be even higher. by the citys Independent Budget Office put the cost for the citys community colleges alone at dollar 138 million to dollar 232 million. But Mr. Malatras expressed confidence in the administrations estimate, saying it had calculated costs considering a variety of factors, including the number of students receiving money through federal Pell grants, the state tuition assistance program and tuition credits.

But even some supporters expressed some doubt about how much Mr. Cuomos plan could cost the state. The cost estimate of dollar 163 million begs the question: If it costs so little, why havent we done it before? said Assemblywoman Deborah J. Glick, the chairwoman of the Assemblys Higher Education Committee.

The tuition plan will require legislative approval, a potential challenge when the governor and lawmakers over a raise and other issues. On Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans offered qualified support for the plan, saying they wanted more details on the proposal and adding that each party had also worked to lower tuition.

We are pleased to see the governor join us in our efforts, said Michael Whyland, a spokesman for Carl Heastie, speaker of the Democrat dominated Assembly, noting that his fellow Democrats had made similar proposals for free tuition in the past. Scott Reif, a spokesman for the Republicans, who rule the Senate with the help of a group of breakaway Democrats, said his party had been fighting for years to expand TAP eligibility, referring to the tuition assistance program.

This proposal appears to move us in a positive direction, he said.

Bruce Gyory, an Albany based political consultant, said the governors announcement would appeal to the voters who flocked to Mr. Sanders during the Democratic presidential primaries last year — and to voters with some college education but no degree, who swung to Donald J. Trump in the general election. Such voters made up nearly a third of the electorate, according to exit polls, Mr. Gyory said.

When youre able to take an innovative policy and have it affect a broad cross section of the state and the electorate, and you know it also resonates nationally, thats not a bad play, Mr. Gyory said. In fact, its a very astute move.

Students and faculty also seemed intrigued by the proposal. Katie Montwill, a junior studying health science at Stony Brook University, called the idea pretty awesome, on the outside, though she added she was not sure how it would be funded. Ms. Montwill, 20, also suggested that the idea of tuition free education might not sit well with some parents — including her own — who did not want their tax dollars to help put other peoples children through school.

I feel like my parents wouldnt be for it, she said.

United University Professions, which represents 35,000 faculty members at New York State campuses, offered support for the plan but also argued for more full time faculty, a sentiment echoed by other groups.

For his part, Mr. Sanders — who was greeted by shouts of I love you, Bernie and loud cheers by the crowd in Long Island City — was effusive in his praise of Mr. Cuomos idea, calling it a revolutionary idea for higher education that he envisioned would be emulated elsewhere.

Heres my prediction, the senator said. If New York State does it this year, mark my words, state after state will follow.

What's In It For Me with Carsten Lützen - Duration: 2:18.

Hello and welcome! My name is Carsten Lützen. I'm a Scrum Master and Agile Coach.

Today I'm going to talk about one of the things I use when I conduct a workshop or a longer meeting

to make sure everybody are aligned.

First of all, if you like these videos please subscribe and share them that would be awesome.

I tend to have a slide like this when I do a workshop or a long meeting and the idea here is to make sure

everybody's expectations are aligned compared to what I think this workshop or meeting is about

compared to the people sitting in the room. I use this "What's In It For Me"-template

and it is one of the first things I do before I even introduce the agenda of the day

is to ask people to grap post-its and a pen and then write down their expectations for today

So what is it that they hope we will touch upon

When they have gotten a couple of minutes to write down their thoughts and hopes for today

I ask each to come up and put their hopes for today and present them

And then we can use the "Bingo"-rule as I mentioned in a previous video

Where if people have something similar they say: "BINGO!" and then

We just fill this entire Flipchart with post-its then during the day we can come back to this and see

is there anything here that we have covered: Cool. Is there anything we are still missing

Then maybe let us have a discussion around that and then in the end of the day

we can see if there is a topic we did not touch upon and then figure out if we need another session or is it OK that is was not covered

in today's topic or workshop

And that is a really simple thing to use when conducting these things

And the nice part about this one is it is also reusable, right. I can just make one and then bring it from workshop to workshop

Because I'm not writing anything on it. Just putting post-its on it and then taking it down again

That is "What's In It For Me"-flipchart-template. Cool! Have a nice day!

Jussie Smollett faces felony criminal charge for falsely reporting alleged racist attack - Duration: 4:23.

Jussie Smollett faces felony criminal charge for falsely reporting alleged racist attack

Felony criminal charge of disorderly conduct/filing a false police report has been approved by the Cook County, Illinois, state attorneys office

Chicago Police Department is working with Jussie Smolletts attorneys to turn himself in

Smolletts legal team released statement, vowing "an aggressive defense"

Smollett was classified "a suspect" by police earlier Wednesday

Gloria Schmidt, attorney for two brothers previously deemed suspects in the attack, addressed reporters and urged Smollett to say "what actually happened"

shows the brothers purchasing a red hat and ski masks from a store one day before the alleged assault

has been charged for falsely reporting he was attacked in January. The Cook County, Illinois, state attorney has filed a felony disorderly conduct charge against the actor, not long after the Chicago Police Department officially named Smollett "a suspect in a criminal investigation," .

Police said earlier that filing a false police report is a Class 4 felony. Smollett could face prison time of one to three years if convicted and be forced to pay for the cost of the police investigation.

Detectives with his legal team to negotiate a reasonable surrender for his arrest. The Associated Press said police do not have a time frame for how long Smollett would be given. "We are trying to be diplomatic and reasonable, and were hoping he does the same," police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told AP.

In a statement to CBS News late Wednesday, Smolletts legal team said they will "mount an aggressive defense."

"Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked," said attorneys Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson. "Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense."

Wednesdays development comes after Smolletts attorneys met with prosecutors and detectives and after police said two brothers, who were earlier deemed suspects, had testified before a grand jury with the power to indict Smollett. In a press conference Wednesday night, the brothers attorney said they had testified for more than two hours.

"I think that Jussies conscience is probably not letting him sleep right now," attorney Gloria Schmidt told reporters. "So I think he should unload that conscious and tell the American people what actually happened."

CBS News has learned detectives have been granted about a dozen search warrants to comb through Smolletts bank and cellphone records. CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds said Smollett has retained the help of high profile lawyer Mark Geragos, whose clients have included , and .

The 36 year old actor, who is black and openly gay, plays Jamal Lyon on Foxs hit TV show, "Empire," a drama that chronicles a family run record label. He told police by two masked men when he was returning home from a Subway sandwich store Jan. 29 around 2 a.m.

Smollett claimed the two men had beat him, said homophobic and racial slurs and put a looped rope around his neck before fleeing. He said he heard, "this is MAGA country," an apparent reference to President Trumps campaign slogan.

A source close to the investigation told CBS News on Feb. 16 two Nigerian brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, revealed to detectives Smollett paid them to participate in the attack. They said the rope that was found around Smolletts neck was purchased at a nearby hardware store. A raid of their home turned up ropes, masks and bleach.

Chicago police said that information had "shifted the trajectory of the investigation," and prompted another interview with Smollett. The actors attorneys said he was "angered and devastated" by reports that he knew the alleged attackers, and that one of the men was Smolletts personal trainer. Ola Osundairo had played a prisoner in a season of "Empire."

On Feb. 19, in a statement to, the brothers said: "We are not racist. We are not homophobic and we are not anti Trump. We were born and raised in Chicago and are American citizens."

Earlier Wednesday, Fox Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television released a statement to say Smollett "continues to be a consummate professional on set" and his character is not being written off the show.

has obtained exclusive video of the Osundairo brothers buying a red hat and ski masks from a store the day before the Jan. 29 assault.

The station said footage shows Ola and Abel placing the masks and a hat on the counter. Smollett has claimed two men wearing a similar hat and masks in the attack. has made multiple phone calls and visited several stores to obtain the video.

The FBI and U.S. Postal Inspectors are studying a letter mailed to the studio where "Empire" is filmed and where Smollett works. The brothers allege Smollett crafted the letter and when it didnt garner much attention, planned the attack a week later.

On Tuesday, Chicagos top prosecutor, Cook County States Attorney Kim Foxx, had recused herself from the Smollett investigation.

A one sentence statement, via her spokeswoman, described the decision.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the decision to recuse herself was made to address potential questions of impartiality based upon familiarity with potential witnesses in the case," spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.

Smollett appeared Feb. 14 on ABCs "Good Morning America" for his only television interview about the incident. He teared up in the interview with Robin Roberts and pushed back on those who questioned his story. He had said "pride" made him reluctant to initially report the incident, and that he was hesitant to give his phone to police because of private information on it.

Jason Silverstein and Dean Reynolds contributed to this report.

FOX TV - How to invest for income: Shares, bonds and why dividends matter - Duration: 8:37.

Investing for income can be about harnessing the power of dividends to boost your investment returns, or using the stock market and bonds to increase the money you have to spend

In our new series on investing for income, James Norton, senior investment planner at Vanguard, will explain what you need to know, the investments to look for and the pitfalls to avoid

It is aimed both at those growing their wealth through their working years – and using the money they have built up to fund retirement

Investing can either boost the income that you have or grow your wealth over timeInvesting for incomeWhen the time comes to retire, many investors are unsure of the best way to manage their portfolios

Some pursue strategies that increase income, not fully realising that their exposure to risk has also increased

Others fear touching their capital, worried that they will run out of money. But income investing is not just for retired investors – dividends are also a vital part of growing your investments

This series of articles will tackle the many aspects of income. We'll look at the accumulation phase, when you are trying to grow your wealth, and the drawdown phase when you are spending from a portfolio in retirement

You may be surprised by our suggestions, as they may challenge you to think about income in a new way

In this first part we look at the main types of income that investments can generate and the role of income in building portfolios

Most of us are familiar with interest from bank savings accounts. Interest from fixed interest investments, or bonds, is similar

Bonds are essentially loans from investors to companies or other bodies such as a government

In return for the loan, the issuer (borrower) will pay interest, usually once or twice per year

At a pre-determined date in the future, the loan is repaid in full.Just as with a bank account, with any individual fixed income investment you know what interest you're going to be paid

The interest rate a bond will pay depends on a number of factors. If the company or government issuing the bond is stable and low risk the interest rate will be low, as investors have a high chance of getting their money back

A higher-risk borrower on the other hand, will have to pay more.Interest rates are also affected by prevailing rates in the market when the loan is issued

As we all know interest rates are low at the moment (but trending higher), so new bonds will generally have low rates of interest – usually just a little more than you could get with a bank deposit

Dividends from sharesThe income paid by equities (shares of company stock) is called a dividend

When you own a share, you own a part of the company. So when that company pays a dividend it is effectively paying you a bit of the profits

A well-managed company making healthy profits may well be able to pay rising dividends over time, but there is no guarantee

And if profits fall, dividends could be cut. Many companies choose not to pay dividends at all, and this is not necessarily a sign of company weakness

Some companies, for example, decide to reinvest profits by hiring new workers or building new facilities rather than paying dividends

This approach is favoured by many fast growing companies including some of the largest and most successful firms in the technology sector

With dividends reinvested, £100 invested in the UK stock market in 1899 would have grown to a staggering £28,232The power of incomeWhilst many of us crave income from our portfolios during retirement, not all of us are aware of how important income can be in growing a portfolio

Want evidence? The 2016 Barclays Equity Gilt Study shows that without reinvesting dividend income, £100 invested back in 1899 would be worth just £184 today (after inflation is taken into account)

But with dividends reinvested, that £100 would have grown to a staggering £28,232

As for bonds, with interest reinvested the account would be worth more than 600 times more than if the interest had been spent

In other words income is a vitally important part of the total return of your portfolio

Leroy Sane has been compared to Thierry Henry after he came on to score a spectacular free kick as 10-man Manchester City came from behind to beat Schalke 3-2 on Wednesday

The German winger replaced Sergio Aguero with 12 minutes left in the second half before he equalised with a superbly hit free kick to start the visitors' late comeback

Sane continued to dazzle during his short cameo as he caused problems for his former employers before Raheem Sterling burst through to score the winning goal in the first leg of the last 16 clash

Share this article Share BT pundits Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott raved about his performance following City's impressive win as they analysed his short time on the pitch

Ferdinand said after the game: 'He's [Sane] too good – he's a beautiful footballer, poetry in motion

'He's a fantastic player. He's so smooth, silky in the way he plays. He made a little nutmeg in the game and we were sitting here giggling, but he's got the end product, he's a killer in that sense of the game

'Former City defender Lescott was also full of praise for the German and even compared Sane to Arsenal legend Henry

Lescott said: 'He's got that Thierry Henry kind of feel… I thought it was a bit strange to take off [Sergio] Aguero when you're behind, but Pep Guardiola knew what he was doing

'Owen Hargreaves was impressed with how consistent Sane was getting when taking free kicks

He said: 'If you take free kicks, you have a picture in your mind where it's going to go

I don't think I've seen him miss a free kick, that's how good he's getting.' Sane, who started his career at Schalke, refused to celebrate his spectacular equaliser and even admitted that he was 'sad' for the home support following the result

The 23-year-old said: 'The fans are really loud, the team is following them, and we knew it would be really tough here

I think you can see it's a lot.'I was a little bit sad for Schalke, especially for the fans, because the atmosphere was amazing

I think Schalke played really well. The way they defended made it really difficult for us

'The Germany international endeared himself to his former club further as he handed one tearful Schalke supporter his shirt after the final whistle
