The thought of being saved by a knight in shining armor

Is too far-fetched

But I guess life has its cold days

I'm too old to believe in such a fairy tale

Where did you get it? -It's magic

I'd rather write my own life's story

Boy With Autism Writes Poem For Homework, His Teacher Is At A Loss For Words - Duration: 2:18.

There is no doubt that poetry has the ability to move us.

In fact, our emotions can often be touched by poetry to the extent that it can make us

laugh, cry or leave us speechless.

Of course, there are some poems that are able to do so easier than others, and this one

certainly deserves a place on the list.

What may come as a surprise to you is that it was written by a young boy with autism,

and even the teacher was shocked.

Benjamin Giroux, a 10 year old student, was given a homework assignment and was asked

to write a poem.

Rather than just firing off something that rhymed, he took the time to pour out his heart

and let people know what it was like to live with autism.

The results were astounding.

Benjamin had always felt different because he was autistic and at times, it made him

stand out from the other children.

His poem, "I Am," shows his emotions in such a special way and when you read it, you

will see he certainly is a special youngster.

Since he wrote it, the poem has gone viral and even the National Autism Association highlighted

and shared it with others.

I am odd, I am new, I wonder if you are too,

I hear voices in there, I see you don't, and that's not fair

I want to not feel blue, I am odd, I am new,

I pretend that you are too, I feel like a boy in outer space ,

I touch the stars and feel out of place.

I worry what others might think , I cry when people laugh , it makes me shrink,

I am odd, I am new, I understand now that so are you ,

I say I feel like castaway, I dream of a day that that's okay ,

I try to fit in, I hope that someday I do,

I am odd , I am new,+

What is Jon Shafer's At the Gates ? - Duration: 7:26.

You know, so many 4x grand strategy games deal with building up your own empire, did

you ever just want to play one about tearing one DOWN?

That's what you get with Jon Shafer's At the Gates, a game about the Dark Ages at

the fall of the Roman Empire.

And the game's development has gone on so long, it almost feels like it dates BACK to

the Roman Empire.

The game finally hit its official release on January 23rd, 2019, but the development

cycle has been… interesting, to say the least.

So let's bring you up to speed - what is this game, and why did it take seven years?

I'm Dean from Curse, and here's the story behind Jon Shafer's At the Gates.

Who is Jon Shafer?

Your first question might be, who is Jon Shafer, and why did he put his name on the title of

the game, like it's Sid Meier's Civilization or something?

Well, the answer probably lies in the fact that he WORKED on Civilization.

After being an active modder for Civilization 3, Shafer was brought in as a 19-year-old

intern at Firaxis Games.

That turned into a full-time position, and he ended up working on Civilization 4's

Warlords and Beyond the Sword expansions.

Firaxis was so impressed with Shafer's work, they made him the director and LEAD designer

of Civilization 5 at the age of 25.

After finishing his work on Civ 5, he left Firaxis and started his own company, Conifer

Games.

Soon after, he launched a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over 100 thousand dollars

for his new game, At the Gates.

That was in early 2013.

Since the game didn't come out until six years later, you might correctly assume that

there were some SLIGHT hang-ups in the development process.

Despite originally being slated for a 2014 release, the game hit numerous snags and delays,

and most of its core team had to work other jobs to support themselves as they worked

on it.

In 2017, Shafer took up a full-time job at Paradox Interactive, the developer behind

the Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron games, but he left the job later that same

year, citing "creative differences."

On January 9th, just two weeks before the game's release, Shafer released a blog post

detailing his struggles with ADHD, the drugs he took to manage it, and the variety of struggles

he went through creating the game over the years.

But now that it's out, what actually IS this game that nearly killed him to make over

more than half a decade?

What is At the Gates?

You know how in Civilization, there is always a threat from barbarian encampments around

you?

Well, At the Gates is essentially a game where you play AS those Dark Age "barbarians,"

jockeying to fill the power vacuum left behind as the Roman Empire crumbles.

Or at least, that's the setting.

The gameplay is actually very different from most 4x games, because it's less about managing

cities and resources, and more about managing people.

In fact, you only actually get ONE settlement for the entire game - your "encampment,"

if you will.

And that settlement can pick up and move at any time, since your tribe is nomadic.

Within that, you're given clans to work with.

Each clan has certain traits and temperaments that make them more or less suited to certain

types of tasks.

For example, some units may be violent, which makes them good in combat, but likely to start

trouble if you keep them around other clans.

Others may have an affinity to a particular trade, like blacksmithing or agriculture - or

they might be completely AVERSE to a certain type of job.

Still, it's up to you to decide what job to train each clan in, and how to manage them.

Like any strategy game, discovery and exploitation of the land is a core mechanic of the game.

Only now you have to train each individual unit in a particular profession, and you need

to make sure they actually WANT to do the jobs you give them.

So in a sense, it's almost like playing Civilization with a dash of The Sims thrown

in - where you're constantly juggling not only your own grand ambitions, but also the

needs and wants of the people you need to accomplish them.

The concept of keeping your citizens content is pretty common in 4x games - whether they

call it morale, happiness, or amenities.

But having to manage the mood of individual units, based on their individual traits, is

fascinatingly unique.

In that sense, "happiness" isn't something that happens on a global or even city-wide

scale - you can keep everyone really happy, but have one malcontent.

Or a clan can be working happily, but then become obsessed with a particular desire.

At this point you need to decide whether to give them their way - which usually means

putting them in a new location or spending resources to train them in a new profession

- or just ignore them and let them get angry - at which point they'll get upset, and

their productivity will go down significantly.

The whole game is full of those sorts of micro-management decisions, which gives the whole thing a more

intimate feel - like each unit is really an individual person.

Because the whole game really takes the grand strategy genre to a micro scale - even the

time frame is more limited, so much that the turns are measured in half-months, rather

than years.

Seasons and even extreme weather conditions need to be planned for - it's important

that you have enough food in reserve to make it through a harsh winter or a drought in

summer.

Expansion is tricky as well - since you only have a single settlement, you can only expand

your territory in a few select ways - by building resource structures near your borders, building

watchtowers outside your borders, or by simply packing up and moving your settlement altogether.

All of these features, and a bunch more that would take WAY too long to get into, combine

to bring a genuinely fresh take on the 4x genre.

But it's not quite…

ALL there yet.

What's Next?

For all the ambition and new ideas put forth by At the Gates, it still has its problems.

It has a fair share of visual glitches, gameplay bugs and exploitable mechanics, and AI opponents

are largely passive.

Despite the game having had an official release, it does feel like a work-in-progress.

And according to its official Steam page, it IS a work in progress.

Shafer and the rest of Conifer Games have laid out a development timeline for them to

continue working fixes and new content into the game going into at least September.

These aren't DLC updates, but rather free patches for game balance, bug fixes, diplomacy,

UI and UX issues, and upgrades to the game's AI.

In other words, they seem to already be aware of the game's biggest weaknesses, and are

already hard at work fixing them.

They even pushed out an earlier-than-expected quickfix patch on February 8th to manage some

of the game's more glaring instability problems.

So ultimately, At the Gates is in a weird state.

It has lots of good ideas, and is generally pretty fun to play.

BUT, it's obvious that there are some things missing that prevent the game from hitting

a higher tier in the 4x genre.

Still, with the developer committed to continuing development on it after release, there's

a good chance At the Gates will iron out the kinks and end up a MUCH better game in a few

months.

That's obviously not a guarantee, but it seems to at least be on the right track for

now.

And even with what's there, At the Gates is, at the very least, worth a LOOK, especially

if you're craving a fresh take on the 4X genre.

But it would be perfectly understandable if you wanted to keep it tucked away on your

watchlist until you see how the patches and updates play out.

That's all a question of whether the base premise interests you enough to see the changes

happen from a player's perspective.

And even it doesn't, keep an eye on it anyway.

This likely isn't the last time you'll hear the name Jon Shafer.

Why Caterpillar Fungus Is So Expensive | So Expensive - Duration: 4:28.

What would you do if a mysterious fungus

invaded your body and started eating you

from the inside out?

Sounds like something out of a horror film

but that's actually exactly what happens to a certain type

of baby moth.

This fungus eats its way through the helpless moth

and then sprouts out of their heads like a spring daisy.

But this rare hybrid fungus called Caterpillar fungus

isn't just totally fascinating, it's also expensive,

sometimes selling for more than three times

its weight in gold.

Caterpillar fungus grows in the remote Tibetan Plateau

in the Himalayan mountains.

But that's not the only place you can find it.

You can also find it in New York City's Chinatown.

Here nestled among countless drawers of dried mugwort leaves

and hibiscus flowers, there it is:

A small pile of 50 or so pieces of dried Caterpillar fungus.

Here one gram of it costs about $30.

But that's a steal.

Vendors on Ebay, for example, will try to get away

with listing a gram for $125.

The price is so high simply because this hybrid creature

is incredibly rare.

It shows up only for a few weeks each year

in the remote regions of Nepal, Tibet, India, and Bhutan.

And even there, the fungus can still be tricky

for collectors to find hidden amongst a sea of grass.

For centuries, it's been a staple of traditional Tibetan

and Chinese medicine.

Kelly Hopping: Traditionally it was used as a general tonic

for immune support.

Narrator: So for instance, a family might add some of it

to chicken soup to make you feel better.

It's even rumored that it can be used

as some sort of Himalayan Viagra.

Though there's little evidence to back that claim up.

People also buy the fungus as a gift or use it for bribes

or as a status symbol.

As a result, better-looking pieces fetch a higher price.

Kelly Hopping: It's all dependent on exactly the color

of the Caterpillar fungus.

Even, say, the shape of its body when it died.

All these things that don't necessarily have anything

to do with medicinal value make all the difference

for the economic value.

Narrator: In 2017 for example, high-quality pieces

sold for as much as $140,000 per kilo

or about $63,000 per pound.

Now, Caterpillar fungus has always been pricey, but experts

say its value really skyrocketed in the 1990s and 2000s

because of a growing Chinese economy.

The resulting increase in disposable income ultimately

helped drive a massive boom in harvest.

In the Tibetan Autonomous Region for example,

collectors reportedly hauled out more than three times

as much Caterpillar fungus in the early 2000s

than they did in the '80s.

And now, many families depend on the cash it brings in.

In fact, experts say up to 80% of household income

in the Tibetan Plateau and Himalayas

can come from selling Caterpillar fungus.

Just one district in Nepal reported collecting

4.7 million dollars worth of Caterpillar fungus in 2016.

That is 12% more than the district's annual budget.

But those profits are at risk.

Surveys indicate that the annual harvests

have recently declined.

Kelly Hopping: The collectors themselves mostly attributed

this to over harvesting.

Acknowledging that their own collection pressure

was driving these declines.

Narrator: And it doesn't help

that it's difficult to regulate the harvest.

Daniel Winkler: And all these different political units

have a different policy, and in the end, it is really down

to county level and how it's implemented.

Narrator: And climate change is also causing problems.

The fungus is more abundant in areas

with cold, long winters.

Which are increasingly hard to come by.

Daniel Winkler: For the rural economy, if there's a lot of

loss, it would be devastating.

Is Hytale over-hyped? - Duration: 11:46.

hey cousin back for another video and today I'm gonna talk about hightail

again and man I've posted a lot of videos about this game and if I'm

overhyping things for you guys and making you like super duper anxious for

launch I apologize but anyway speaking of hype today I'm going to discuss

whether or not hightail will live up to the hype

so before we answer this question we need to consider what does it mean for a

game to be overhyped well let's look at no man's sky for an example if you guys

don't know what that game is then you got lucky I'm gonna give her brief

summary and nonetheless sell no man's sky was a game that before launch was

hyped up and it told players that they would be able to explore the universe

and be able to explore trillions of worlds literally trillions of worlds and

each one would be unique there'd be different stuff to get there you'd be

able to fight enemies gather equipment so it'd basically be like Minecraft in

space except it's not blocks and there's like a bajillion worlds to go to

infinite stuff and you'd have these really sick looking spaceships and you'd

be able to do all sorts of crap and it was multiplayer and apparently everybody

played in the same universe but everything is so freaking big that the

chances of finding another player without like straight up traveling to

them would be close to impossible because trillions of planets but after

launch things were extremely disappointing I mean literally no man's

sky was a game that people looked at is almost a life simulator and no man's guy

was seen as a video game where you could do almost anything problem is when the

game released you could do almost nothing in comparison at least I mean

the performance of the game was bad every time he made it to a new planet it

was almost like the last one except it just looked a little different but like

everything functioned exactly the same on launched you couldn't even there

wasn't even more the game literally was not even

multiplayer even though they advertised that it was because what ended up

happening is two players found the same planet and they tried to meet up and

they went in the same exact spot and they didn't see each other so let that

be a lesson to anybody that pre-orders games luckily I was able to return mine

my copy of the game I mean if you saw my livestream of it it was a disaster the

performance issues alone made it almost unplayable like one of the coolest

sequences in the game was going like hyper speed and like exiting a plane but

during the whole freaking ordeal it was lagging and it was horrible well luckily

though no man sky has been you know the devs actually are continuing to work on

it they are giving it some love and it has been making a comeback but that

doesn't deny the fact that it was probably one of the biggest flops slash

disappointments in gaming history like it was that bad and then only a few

years later fallout 76 Oh Bethesda why did you do this

alright well to those of you that don't know me and my gaming preferences

Fallout New Vegas is my favorite game of all time it has a special place in my

heart it is a game that honestly it's more I enjoyed that game more than I

enjoyed minecraft I for real I literally like that game was the best it's my

number one and I figured that the licensing company Bethesda when they

released fallout 4 they would have something that's just as insane just as

amazing was super hyped and fallout 4 was kind of meh

it wasn't bad but wasn't really good either it was kind of like fallout 3 but

worse except like sure it had a shiny coat of paint on it but it was like I

don't know I felt dead you know I just I don't know something about it didn't

feel like there was much soul to it but I still had hope and then they said they

were going to release a multiplayer Fallout named fallout 76 now I've been

quoted as saying in videos that I'm suspicious that it might

be a bad game because fallout is a single-player experience and making a

multiplayer might spoil it unless it's in a modded environment and I was right

when it released the idea of multiplayer fallout a lot of things just fall apart

for one thing that's isn't even slow-mo anymore it's real time

you can't slow down time to shoot enemies you just basically get temporary

aimbot that's actually really bad because you only get a certain

percentage to hit something there were literally no talking NPCs other than

robots the game had like only a few enemy types one of which what's called

the scorched and it was the most boring and uninspired enemy type that was I've

ever seen in any friggin RPG game not to mention that they

completely screwed up the storyline I'll fall out like the Brotherhood of Steel

weren't even supposed to exist yet at that point yet they were in the game I

they ruined the lore of the universe oh and not to mention the fact that they

said there would be zero microtransactions in a $60 game which by

the way is like a hundred and ten with like DLC content like like The Ultimate

editions or whatever and then there was all this controversy with like about

getting a duffel bag with the game and apparently it was like really really

cheap material that's like plastic like what a tent would be made out of where

they said it was gonna be some really expensive like vinyl or leather or

something like that I'm freaking now but the point I'm trying to make again is

that games can get overhyped SuperDuper easily and even Beth as does not immune

to it now they're actually starting to just over and over again prove that they

don't care about the community anymore but let's bring this to hightailin

hypixel what makes them any different I mean my channel has uploaded over 30

videos talking about what could be slashed should be in hightail and it's

so SuperDuper height it's got like 35 million views on the trailer and what

makes it immune to disappointment on launch day from all of this hype well

first off I think they're trying their best to keep hype down but the problem

is their attempts are making the hype even greater there

holding back information from us intentionally they don't want to drop

too much information on us at once but them doing that is actually producing

even more hype which is uncontrollable at this point I don't think they have

control over the hype of their fan base it is literally something that I bet the

devs for hightail would rather that there be less hype right now because

they don't want people to get disappointed I'm not saying that the

games gonna be worse than expected but I'm saying that we've reached a point

now where people think that literally whatever they want will be in the game

there's a reason why a lot of my videos are called ideas or suggestions or

theorizing I don't know 100 percent of these things are in the game but I'm

suggesting it to the developers I'm trying my best to give ideas to the devs

before release such that they can create something that lives up to the hype and

are they gonna be able to do that I don't know because that is there's an

unrealistic amount of hype centered around this game all I hope right is

that people don't get disappointed on launch day because even if the game

doesn't live up to hype on day one which I predict it will not live up to the

hype that has been generated because again it's not even the fault of the

game at that point it's just unfair amounts of hype like it is unrealistic

like people are super excited to this game they're thinking that this is going

to be like their universe for a long long time which I'm not saying it won't

be but still what I think is that if the game doesn't live up to the hype day one

it will live up to the hype in the long term because of its mod ability if

somebody wants a feature in the game they can make it themself and that's

just like what happened with Minecraft right you can make your own stories you

can make your own custom maps you can make your own mods you can make your own

creations set goals for yourself create games inside the game and that makes it

extremely malleable all I hope is that the base experience is as close to the

hypes portrayal of it as possible I really don't want this game to be over

which is why I am NOT saying these things are gonna be in the game like

with all my suggestion videos there are things that could be and if they're not

that's okay cuz they could be modded in I mean even though most of my

suggestions are themed around the idea of making modding better so I don't know

so what makes hightail different from other sandbox and moddable games like

Garry's Mod well Garry's Mod even though you could technically make whatever you

want in it the game is not well optimized at all it is made like the

engine was made like a decade and a half ago and it is SuperDuper old to zero

hype around it and even if you were able to create any game you want in that

engine it's just it's like the source engine you know it's you can't do a heck

of a lot with it in a seamless way it might act like any game you want but

it's always gonna look like a half-life copy and it's just gonna perform slowly

it's gonna take forever to load everything whereas in hi tell if the

performance is good you can do whatever you want and the only limitation is that

it's gonna be a cubed slash voxel based game that is it you could otherwise I

think what they're aiming for with these modding tools is that you can make it

into any game you want and that's why I think in the long term the game will

live up to hype but in the short term I think high tail risks being a

disappointment for some not for all definitely not for me because I have

realistic standards for what this game is going to be I know for a fact that's

going to at least be better than minecraft so that's where my

expectations are set right now I think some people are often space right now

they literally think that this game is going to be their life and I to them I

would say I just hold up there buddy the game's gonna be good but be careful you

don't want to disappoint yourself that's it for this video guys it was a pretty

short one because I don't know it's a simple question with a simple answer for

one example of making any game you want in hightail I would like to show you

guys block shot it's a little passion project of mine that I started a few

weeks ago and with the help of some awesome people from the in

we are constructing a large development team we are going to create the hightail

FPS server network so with that I guess that's it the links in the description

down below and in the pinned Comet well anyway that's it so I hope you guys

enjoyed and I'll see you guys later

FOX TV - Is an FCA regulated firm safe? Beware those selling risky investments - Duration: 18:05.

A crucial aspect of accumulating wealth is to protect what you already have. But grey areas of investing make this harder than it should be

For example, sellers using their professional credentials to insinuate a financial product is safe, when in fact it is the complete opposite

It is a bit like a trusted supermarket brand promoting potentially poisonous food

But this is what is happening right under our noses, across the financial services industry

Fool's gold: Firms are exploiting their 'regulated' status to promote unregulated investmentsFirms are exploiting their 'regulated' status to promote unregulated investments such as mini-bonds, precious stones and certain property deals

Evidence of this malpractice has been uncovered by the regulator that awards companies their endorsements – the Financial Conduct Authority

It recently distributed a 'Dear CEO' letter to bosses of regulated firms, reminding them of their responsibilities

This is a warning shot to companies that advertise risky products online and via social media, implying security because they have a permit from the City watchdog

So, a company can officially be allowed to sell insurance, but it cannot legally promote a side-hustle in Bitcoin investments using its regulated status as a way of reassuring customers

It is the financial equivalent of a pharmacist using its licence to distribute prescription medicine as a badge of confidence for selling recreational drugs

Jonathan Davidson, of the Financial Conduct Authority, calls it 'unacceptable' behaviour by regulated firms

He says: 'We are committed to stamping out such misleading practice and recommend that customers ask firms whether what they are being sold is regulated

So, if a firm goes bust, investors can apply for money back from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme

Compensation limits for investments are up to £50,000 per person, per authorised firm

This rises to £85,000 from the start of April. The scheme also kicks in if an adviser gives bad advice or steals money

But it does not cover losses arising from a poorly performing investment fund or if one of the underlying companies within a fund goes belly-up

That is the risk people take when they invest.Dealing with an authorised firm also gives investors the right to go to the Financial Ombudsman Service if they feel a company has not dealt with a complaint fairly

The service can award compensation if they side with a complainant. An authorised business is allowed to sell an unauthorised product, but they cannot market it to consumers in a misleading way

Claire Walsh, personal finance director at investment company Schroders, says: 'The Financial Conduct Authority regulates advisers and providers, rather than products

So, there isn't always a straightforward way to check the credentials of a specific financial product

'She adds: 'Unregulated investments can only be 'proposed' to those who certify themselves as sophisticated or high-net-worth – not the typical investor

' These schemes should be treated with extreme caution – even if sold by a legitimate and authorised business

Here are some prime examples of unregulated products that have turned investors into financial victims: Some 14,000 investors are currently out of pocket after mini-bond provider London Capital and Finance went into administration last monthMINI-BONDS, MAJOR CRISESSmall businesses often issue so- called mini-bonds to investors as a way of raising capital to expand

The annual interest offered will be generous to reflect the risk of the company failing, in which case there is no guarantee customers will get their money back

While inherently risky, many bonds are perfectly legitimate and have proved successful investments, others less so

Some 14,000 investors are currently out of pocket after mini-bond provider London Capital and Finance went into administration last month

In December the FCA ordered the company to withdraw its promotions and cease regulated activity

It was an authorised business selling unauthorised products. Although technically allowed, the regulator was concerned about how the business was promoting its mini-bonds – as secure and Isa-eligible when they were neither

Renewable energy bonds – promoting investment in 'green' projects – should also be treated with caution

They too are unregulated mini-bonds but are typically packaged as 'secure' and even 'ethical'

STORAGE PODS: STORING NOTHING BUT TROUBLEThere is a sound business case for owning space that can be rented to store people's belongings

In theory it is a provider of a steady stream of income. Yet it has attracted charlatans and criminals

People of modest wealth are approached by phone, email or online to invest in storage 'pods' – usually by supposed pension companies

They suggest better investment returns are available if pension money is transferred to a flexible self-invested personal pension plan

This, so the sales patter goes, allows freedom to choose from a broad range of investments including high-yielding storage pods

These spaces will then be rented out, providing annual returns.Although property always seems like a win-win for British investors, many of these storage schemes have provided nothing but losses

For example, Capita Oak Pension and Henley Retirement Benefit were both investigated by the Serious Fraud Office and shut down

More than 1,000 people transferred workplace savings into pensions run by these companies with storage pods the main investment vehicle

The pods failed to deliver the yields promoted and were scams.CRYPTO-CURRENCY: A HAVEN FOR SCAMMERSBitcoin has become a popular dinner-party topic of conversation

For some it is a fun and exciting aspect of finance that many people – young and old – want to talk about

So when social media adverts suggest that ordinary folk should dabble in the likes of Bitcoin, Ether or Ripple, and back it up with endorsements from well-known celebrities, people are tempted to take a punt

Investment in crypto-currency is high risk. But even worse is the abundance of scams profiting from all the hype

Victims who succumb to a scam soon discover that the celebrity endorsements are fake and the investment fraudulent

They paid criminals and never owned any of the virtual coins.Further confusion arises with 'contracts for difference' – a type of bet on the price movement of an asset without a customer ever actually owning it

These 'CFDs', as they are known, are regulated – even if they track the price of crypto-currencies like Bitcoin, which isn't

But the majority of investors still lose their money with CFDs. Investors are often sold diamonds at a huge mark-up

Sellers can inflate valuations for the stones and are prone to producing misleading certificatesDIAMONDS: FOREVER RISKYThese precious stones maintain widespread appeal among jewellery-wearers and investors

Diamonds can be a profitable alternative investment when a buyer has done their research and purchases from a reputable broker

Shares of diamond mining companies are also listed on leading world stock exchanges and are often found in commodity investment funds, which are regulated

But this does not make all diamond investments a safe bet.Investors are often sold diamonds at a huge mark-up

Sellers inflate valuations for the stones and are prone to producing misleading certificates describing their characteristics

Diffraction Diamonds, selling fake coloured diamonds, was wound up following an investigation by the Insolvency Service, as was broker the Coloured Diamond Exchange

With the latter, some investors had been told the company was FCA-registered which it was not

DEVELOPMENT LAND: BUILDING BOGUS CLAIMSBuying shares in companies that build properties or hotels on unused land both at home and overseas can appear a plausible investment proposition

But this straightforward-sounding arrangement has led to significant investor losses

For example, more than 170 people lost £2.8 million after buying shares in a company that said it owned development land on the island of Madeira

Bosses claimed to have the backing of both a worldwide hotel chain and major British bank

These claims were lies and the company fraudulent. Many elderly, vulnerable British victims lost their life savings as a result

HOW TO CHECK AN INVESTMENT IS LEGITIMATEWhen making investment decisions, it pays to carry out due diligence

The first step is to check the firm you are dealing with is authorised and what it is permitted to sell

You can do this using the FCA's financial services register. It lists authorised firms and spells out what they are able to do

Visit register.fca.org.uk. It also provides company addresses and any other trading names the business might be using

Beware of 'cloned' firms. These are scammers that imitate a genuine company by using a similar name

Many such firms are included on the register along with prominent warnings. Next, investigate the deal you are being offered

Unregulated products also include those linked to wine, hotels and student accommodation

For a more comprehensive list visit the FCA's ScamSmart website. Finally, consider taking professional advice

Respected financial advisers not only help people build wealth, but protect it.Of course, individuals need to select an adviser that is authorised

Use websites such as unbiased and VouchedFor to find one and check their name appears on the financial services register

Do not be bashful. Ask the adviser whether the products recommended are regulated

A FINAL WARNINGA golden tip from Wealth is that if any firm – regulated or not – promotes an unbeatable and time-limited 'opportunity' to invest in crypto-currencies, storage units, parking spaces or graphene, let it pass

And never bet the farm.Limited wealth is better than none at all.  TOP DIY INVESTING PLATFORMS Low cost portfolios Low cost portfolios Cheap funds fee £1

Our budget is focused on the building blocks of economic growth - Duration: 0:43.

So tomorrow I am going to deliver my first budget address to the legislature, which is

gonna focus like a laser beam on economic growth and jobs. If Connecticut just had the

same economic growth and job creation as most of our neighboring states, we would be talking

about how we're going to invest a surplus or cut taxes. That's not the case, we have

not kept up and this budget is gonna change that. I am gonna focus on job creation, workforce

development - education - and in particular transportation - how we speed up our transportation

system. Those are the three building blocks of economic growth - that's how we get our

state going again.

The PGA Tour pro who is turning around his career by turning up the pressure - Duration: 6:58.

Don't tell Michael Thompson that he is in the midst of playing some of the best golf of his career

Don't tell him that his three top-10 finishes in his last four starts, including a T-7 on Sunday at the Genesis Open, equals the number of the top-10s he collected in his previous four seasons combined

Don't tell him that his 330 FedEx Cup points ranks 40th on the PGA Tour, or that he already has accumulated more points than in either of his last two seasons

But absolutely tell him that the next shot he faces, likely at next week's Honda Classic where he won his lone tour title in 2013, has life-or-death consequences

And the shot after that. And then the shot after that, too. You see, Thompson needs that sense of urgency

He needs to feel like not only is his back against the wall, but that he's just been given a blindfold and cigarette

"I have found that I play better when I'm under the gun, when I absolutely have to pull off a shot," Thompson confessed earlier this year at the Sony Open in Hawaii

"I thrive when it feels like every shot is do or die. It's weird, but I just mentally handle golf better playing that way

Part of my mindset is creating this scenario of urgency, of having to pull off tough shots and feeling adversity, if you will

"Thompson, 33, learned this the hard way—by confronting authentic adversity. Each of the last four seasons Thompson has missed the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and in three of those years he was relegated to the Web

com Tour Finals in which 150 players vie for 25 PGA Tour cards. (In 2017, his season was cut short by a shoulder injury, and he played in 2018 on a combination of a minor medical extension, past champion status and conditional card from finishing 148th in the FedEx Cup standings

)He finally noticed a trend, born of a trend he despised: playing in and surviving the Finals

"I am sick and tired of going to the Web.com Finals," he said with a pronounced exhale

Thanks to recent work with psychologist Mo Pickens, part of an overhaul to his approach to the game that includes a new swing, nutritional habits and fitness regimen, Thompson not only has been able to concentrate better but also harness a grittier mindset

"I didn't start to realize this until this last year, but I seem to be able to pull off shots when I feel I don't have any other choice," said the University of Alabama product, a former runner-up at the U

S. Amateur. "So, my approach just grew from there. I just keep doing it over and over and over again, getting it in my head that I have to play with this certain attitude

And when you put yourself under pressure like that, you learn to play with pressure

"It's not talked about a lot," he added, "but I think the best players in the world approach things in this manner, that if they don't pull off this shot or make this putt then it's kind of the end of the world, so to speak

That's how they get themselves to respond and perform. Anything to create that competitive drive

"Of course, if you're going to assume a do-or-die mentality, you better have a golf swing that enables you to "do" with some regularity

Enter swing instructor Kyle Morris of The Golf Room in Columbus, Ohio, who didn't just give Thompson's swing a tweak here and a tuck there since they began working together 15 months ago

"It was more like reconstructive surgery," said Morris, who became friends with Thompson when they competed on the Hooters Tour and Web

com Tour. "We put his left arm on his right arm and left leg on his right leg, and we put his shoulder where his head is and his head where his feet were

Somehow, we made a new golfer."Very nearly so. From a golfing standpoint, what Morris did change in Thompson was drastic

Best to let Morris explain:"The shallowness of his shaft is probably 2-2½ feet different than what it was in 2017

He used to come down through his left forearm or even outside his left forearm and now he is on his right forearm

Whatever that distance is, 18 inches, 24 inches, for a tour player their swings don't change that drastically, but he has completely overhauled his golf swing

The visual of where it was and where it is now is incredible. It doesn't even look like the same person

"With his revamped swing, Thompson is finding more fairways, which is kind of a big deal for a guy who ranks 141st in driving distance with an average of 287

4 yards. More pronounced was his increased percentage of greens in regulation. In 2017, Thompson ranked 140th on tour with a 63

69 average. Last year he ranked 21st by hitting 70.11 percent. That jump didn't translate into strokes gained/approach the green, where he ranked an abysmal 181st a year ago (-

423), but this season is a different story. He currently is 12th (.854), not only a product of ball-striking, Morris said, but also course management

"The way he is playing overall is not surprising at all given how well he is hitting it and the confidence he has," said Morris, who also has given Thompson other tools, namely day-to-day practice drills and "feedback drills," which give Thompson the ability to self-correct any flaws that develop

"Right now, there are no holes in his game."When Thompson thinks back to his 2013 victory at PGA National, where he finished at nine-under 271 and beat Geoff Ogilvy by two strokes, what stands out is the quality of shots he hit down the stretch and his inability to take from that a modicum of confidence

"I guess I didn't learn from it all what I could have learned because here I am still trying to figure it out," he said

"I needed to tell myself more that I am a good player."Good, yes, but a player with flaws he knew he needed to repair

It has taken time, but Thompson owns a swing that repeats. And now he exudes confidence

"I'm not quite there yet, but I am starting to understand what I need to do and how I need to adjust," said the Georgia resident, who has moved up to 142nd in the world after beginning the year 317th

"It's been hard because the feeling doesn't always match up to what it looks like, and I still can feel myself fighting it now and then

But knowing all I have to do is make my move and the ball is going to go roughly where I'm looking … that's what we're all striving for is that swing we can rely on

"I'm figuring it out and starting to play good golf, and I'm starting to believe that I can play good golf every day," he added

"That's how you stay out here, that's how you succeed and that's how you win."It's also how you avoid those times of dire urgency

Unless, of course, you're into that sort of thing.

What Is A Good Amount Of Feedback To Seek - Duration: 1:05.

James Schramko here and I'm just filming a little video. I had a question from

someone and that is, who should they get feedback from for a new book and I said

you know what, not too many people.

Don't get too much feedback.

When I put out my book, I had two people read it other than Kelly Exeter and myself.

It was two students and there were different types and I took their notes and then I just

made a few changes and that was it. If you get too many people to give you

feedback, you end up with a book by a committee.

Same for videos and sales, letters and all of that. I'm often looking at my student's work videos,

presentations, sales pages, book drafts to give feedback but they trust me to give

them a seasoned feedback that then they can go and work on. Because if they ask

their wife or their partner or their spouse or their friend from down the

road at the pub, they're probably not going to get the right feedback. And if they

asked too many people, they're going to be dragged all over the place. So

hopefully this is helpful and also it's less work.

I'm James Schramko, this is typical of the sort of thing that I'm talking about inside SuperFastBusiness

Membership on a regular basis. I hope to see you in there sometime.

End of the Rod: Deputy AG Rosenstein is set to leave the Justice Department in WEEKS - Duration: 6:28.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to leave his role at the Justice Department next month

A senior DOJ official has told multiple media outlets that Rosenstein will step down by mid-March after almost two years in the job

He is leaving his post after he headed Robert Mueller's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and was a frequent target of President Trump's twitter rants

The president has also accused him of being part of an 'illegal and treasonous' plot to secretly record him and get him removed from office

The White House is expected to name a replacement for Rosenstein this week.Rosenstein's departure had been expected with the confirmation of William Barr as attorney general last week

The senior official who told CNN about his impending departure said the timing was nothing to do with former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe's claims that Rosenstein wanted to remove Trump in 2017 after he fired James Comey

On Sunday, Trump tweeted 'treason' alongside a quote from Fox News host Sean Hannity that said: 'The biggest abuse of power and corruption scandal in our history, and it's much worse than we thought

Andrew McCabe (FBI) admitted to plotting a coup (government overthrow) when he was serving in the FBI, before he was fired for lying & leaking

' According to McCabe, in a lengthy interview that aired Sunday on CBS's '60 Minutes,' Rosenstein brought up the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution, which provides for the removal of a sitting president for incapacity

'Rod raised the issue and discussed it with me in the context of thinking about how many other cabinet officials might support such an effort,' said McCabe, who has a book coming out, 'The Threat

' Trump slammed their reported discussions about invoking the Constitution to remove him as part of an 'illegal and treasonous' push against him

McCabe and Rosenstein 'look like they were planning a very illegal act, and got caught

,' Trump said in a series of tweets.'This was the illegal and treasonous 'insurance policy' in full action!' Rosenstein, who became deputy attorney general at the start of Trump's tenure, long planned to only serve two years in the Number Two position at Justice, NBC News reported in January

He has been on the brink of an exit before, notably in September when he and Trump clashed after a report that Rosenstein secretly recorded Trump and was looking at invoking the 25th amendment to remove him from office

But Mueller's probe was at the heart of the disagreement between the two men.It was Rosenstein who appointed Mueller as special counsel after then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from overseeing the investigation

The deputy attorney general was thought to leave after Sessions exited the top job at Justice in November but he stayed on while Matt Whittaker acted as acting attorney general and before William Barr was confirmed by the Senate last week

In September, Rosenstein was the subject of intense speculation over his fate. There was one chaotic day were reports had Rosenstein in route to the White House to be fired only he ended up being there for a routine Cabinet meeting

The pandemonium was the result of reports Rosenstein wore a 'wire' to record conversations with President Trump and recruited Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office

Rosenstein denied the allegations and several of his supporters said his 'wire' comment was a joke

Trump met with Rosenstein shortly after the incident and said he had no plans to fire him

The president was also furious with Rosenstein in April when the deputy attorney general approved the FBI raid on Michael Cohen, who was then Trump's personal attorney

The results of that raid helped bring about Cohen's conviction on eight counts of campaign finance violations, tax fraud, and bank fraud

Cohen later pled guilty to lying to Congress and has been sentenced to three years in prison

Another Group FaceTime bug discovered, but this one is a lot less serious - Duration: 1:51.

While Apple focused primarily on system stability and performance improvements for new and old devices with iOS 12, last year's big platform update also contained a number of all-new features

Group FaceTime was perhaps the most notable add-on, attracting a lot of positive and then negative attention as it promised to support simultaneous video conferencing with up to 32 people, miserably failing however at protecting users' privacy

But even after Apple discovered the widely publicized eavesdropping glitch (from a teenager), temporarily disabling the feature until a bug-fixing OS update was finally rolled out, it doesn't seem like the company's troubles are completely over

That's because Group FaceTime calls are still not working properly for all iOS users on the latest platform version, as reported by MacRumors

The newly unearthed issue is far less controversial than that spying bug, fortunately, impacting the security of your iPhone or iPad in absolutely no obvious way

Basically, quite a few folks on Twitter and a couple of forums are saying they can't switch from a regular FaceTime call to a group video chat, as the option to add people to already initiated calls appears to be disabled

After doing a little digging and discussing with several customer support representatives, a MacRumors forum user purportedly found out the issue is known to certain "senior" Apple advisors and, presumably, engineers already working on a fix

Official Apple Support Twitter account handlers are also aware of the limitation, suggesting users they start their Group FaceTime sessions with "at least two additional" people

In other words, the feature itself is functional, but for some reason, the "add person" option doesn't work as intended

While definitely inconvenient, that's not exactly a critical bug, so we may have to wait a little bit for a proper, complete Group FaceTime repair

My goal is to be a high-school biology teacher.

Wanting to be part of this university overall, I was not

thinking so much about how to fund it.

Well I would have been able to go to college, I just would of had to take out big loans,

and so with this scholarship it has really just helped me stay on my feet.

A few years ago, my dad pasted away. I was really kind of concerned,

about, how I was going to pay for school.

It has made me feel a little bit better, taking the burden off of my parents,

with them having to financially support me. Even if their contribution is

small, every dollar ends up going towards scholarships,

and that is another opportunity for students.

It meant so much to me. I was the first in my family to go to college,

and it provided assurance that I could succeed.

Its like indescribable, the opportunity they have given me.
