Waching daily Feb 18 2019

(*)

>> Rosemary: ON THIS SUNDAY

NIGHT... "THE NATIONAL" IS ON

THE GROUND IN HAITI.

PEOPLE PREPARE FOR MORE PROTESTS

WHILE FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN

CANADA WORRY.

>> EVERYBODY IS STRANDED.

>> Rosemary: TONIGHT A FIRM

NEW WARNING

FROM THE COUNTRY'S PRESIDENT.

>> I TRUSTED WHAT I WAS HEARING

ON THE RADIO.

>> Rosemary: THEY'RE OUT

THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND "GOING

PUBLIC" AFTER TAKING FINANCIAL

ADVICE FROM FAKE EXPERTS.

>> I NEVER ONCE BELIEVED THAT IT

WAS AN AD.

>> Rosemary: THE BLURRED LINES

BETWEEN INFORMATION AND

ADVERTISING.

>>> AND HOW A PARENT'S CHOICE IS

CONTRIBUTING TO AN OUTBREAK THAT

COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.

>> AT THAT TIME WE WERE A LOT OF

PARENTS WORRYING ABOUT THE

M.M.R. VACCINE.

>> Rosemary: THE FAMILY IN THE

CENTRE OF B.C.'S MEASLES

OUTBREAK SPEAKS TO CBC NEWS.

THIS IS "THE NATIONAL."

(*)

>>> AFTER DAYS OF STREET

VIOLENCE, THE POLITICAL CHAOS IN

HAITI SEEMS TO BE ON PAUSE, AT

LEAST FOR THE MOMENT.

BUT WITH MORE ANTI-GOVERNMENT

PROTESTS EXPECTED THIS WEEK,

MANY HAITIANS ARE NOW SCRAMBLING

TO COVER THE BASICS.

AND THAT MEANS COLLECTING

MUCH-NEEDED FOOD, WATER, AND

MEDICINE, IF THEY CAN FIND IT.

ALSO IN DESPERATELY SHORT

SUPPLY -- GASOLINE.

NOW THE LIFE BLOOD OF DAILY

ECONOMIC SURVIVAL.

TO FULLY COMPREHEND THE

SITUATION IN THIS TROUBLED

COUNTRY YOU'VE GOT TO BE THERE,

ON THE GROUND.

AND OUR PAUL HUNTER IS IN HAITI

TONIGHT.

HE PAINTS A GRIM PORTRAIT OF

ANGER AND DESPERATION IN

PORT-AU-PRINCE.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: IF HAITIANS HAD A

BREAK THIS WEEKEND FROM THE

RIOTING AND STREET VIOLENCE THAT

HAD ROCKED THIS COUNTRY FOR DAYS

IT HARDLY SEEMED IT.

YES, THERE WERE PEOPLE ON THE

STREETS OF PORT-AU-PRINCE, THOSE

WHO HAD LOCKED THEMSELVES IN

THEIR HOMES FOR MORE THAN A WEEK

TRYING TO STAY SAFE.

BUT A LITANY OF BURNT OUT GAS

STATIONS UNDERLINE THE FURY NOW

RAMPANT IN THIS COUNTRY, NOT TO

MENTION OUTSIDE THE PRESIDENTIAL

PALACE WHERE ROCKS THROWN IN

ANGER LAST WEEK NOW LITTER THE

STREET.

BUT REMINDERS TOO OF WHAT LED TO

THOSE RIOTS IN THE FIRST

PLACE -- A LACK OF ALMOST

EVERYTHING.

AT THIS FRESHLY REOPENED GAS

STATION, DESPERATION OVER WHAT

LITTLE GASOLINE IS LEFT IN THE

PUMPS.

THESE MEN WOULD NORMALLY BE

WORKING AT THE FLOWER SHOP

BEHIND THEM BUT WITH NO

DELIVERIES FOR DAYS THERE IS NO

WORK.

ADDING TO THEIR MISERY A

PRESIDENT WHO IN THEIR VIEW IS

DOING NOTHING ABOUT ANY OF WHAT

AILS HAITI.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: I LIVE 100 METRES

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S HOUSE, HE

SAYS, I HAVE NO ELECTRICITY, NO

WATER.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: WE HAVE A

SHORTAGE OF EVERYTHING, SAID

THIS MAN.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: TODAY THE BARELY

FUNCTIONING HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

LED TO THIS INCREDIBLE SCENE IN

A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT.

YES, SHE'S HAVING A BABY.

AND THE LIST GOES ON.

ALL THOSE PROPANE TANKS, PEOPLE

HERE HAD BEEN LINING UP SINCE

6:00 a.m., BETTING THAT A

SUPPLY TRUCK MIGHT COME HERE

EVENTUALLY.

WHEN IT DID, CHEERS.

BUT AS ONE MAN TOLD US THE FACT

IS THAT NOTHING REALLY CHANGES

IN HAITI, ADDING THAT IN HIS

VIEW OUTSIDE HAITI NO ONE EVEN

CARES.

SKY HIGH INFLATION, FEW JOBS,

LITTLE FOOD AND FADING HOPE IN A

COUNTRY WHERE POVERTY REMAINS

BEYOND THE PALE.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: MY FEELING, HE

SAYS, IS THAT IT IS A BEGINNING

OF THE END OF THE WORLD IN

HAITI.

INDEED, AT THAT PROPANE STATION

ALONGSIDE THE TRUCK WITH THE

FRESH AND SOUGHT AFTER TANK OF

FUEL, A HALF DOZEN POLICE

OFFICERS, HEFTY AUTOMATIC

WEAPONS AT THE READY, STANDING

BY, KEEPING THE PEACE FOR NOW.

>> Rosemary: PAUL HUNTER IS

JOINING ME NOW.

THAT UNEASY PEACE THAT YOU

TALKED ABOUT, PAUL, CAN THAT

EVEN LAST PAST TOMORROW?

>> Reporter: WELL, THE

GOVERNMENT

SURE HOPES SO.

IT PUT OUT A NEWS RELEASE

TONIGHT CALLING FOR A RETURN

TO NORMAL IN THIS COUNTRY

HENCEFORTH.

WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

THIS MUCH IS CLEAR -- HAITIANS

ARE ANGRY.

IT'S AS IF THIS COUNTRY HAS

REACHED A TIPPING POINT.

YOU KNOW, THE REALIZATION THAT

NOTHING EVER CHANGES IN THIS

PLACE.

YOU KNOW, WE TALKED A LOT ABOUT

HAITI NINE YEARS AGO AFTER THE

EARTHQUAKE, YOU KNOW, NINE YEARS

LATER IT'S AS IF THEY CLEARED

AWAY THE RUBBLE BUT THAT'S IT,

RIGHT?

AND NOW THE SUGGESTION THAT MANY

HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS

THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO INTO

MAKING THIS A BETTER PLACE FLAT

OUT DIDN'T.

THAT INSTEAD IT FELL TO

GOVERNMENT

CORRUPTION, LEAVING YOU KNOW,

REGULAR HAITIANS WITH THE SAME

OLD-SAME OLD, NO FOOD, NO

MEDICINE, NO WATER, NO

ELECTRICITY, YOU NAME IT.

HAITIANS ARE ENRAGED AT A

GOVERNMENT THAT SEEMS INCAPABLE

OF MAKING THIS A BETTER PLACE.

>> Rosemary: PAUL HUNTER IN

PORT-AU-PRINCE TONIGHT, THANK

YOU, PAUL.

>>> EVERY MONTH HAITIANS IN THE

TORONTO AREA MEET FOR A SPECIAL

CREOLE CHURCH SERVICE.

TODAY THEY DID MORE THAN PRAY.

AS CBC'S TALIA RICCI TELLS US,

THEY ALSO MADE PLANS TO HELP THE

PEOPLE THEY ARE SO WORRIED

ABOUT.

>> LET ME TRY ANOTHER ONE.

>> Reporter: LOST CONNECTIONS

HAVE BEEN COMMON THESE DAYS.

>> Reporter: HAS IT BEEN HARD

TO GET AHOLD OF THEM?

>> IT'S NEAR IMPOSSIBLE.

(*)

>> Reporter: FOR MANY THE

FEELING OF UNEASE LINGERS WITH

EVERY DROPPED CALL.

>> WHEN I DON'T HEAR FROM THEM I

HAVE THE SENSE OF WHAT'S

HAPPENING.

>> Reporter: THIS SPECIAL MASS

IN CREOLE BRINGS THE HAITIAN

COMMUNITY TOGETHER IN TORONTO.

FOR SOME, WHAT'S UNFOLDING IN

HAITI DOESN'T FEEL FAR FROM

HOME.

>> I FEEL LIKE IF I'M IN THE

MIDDLE OF IT BUT FROM AFAR.

BUT I DON'T FEEL THAT IT'S

OUTSIDE OF MY LIFE.

>> Reporter: ANTWON DEROSE

SAYS HE LEFT THE COUNTRY JUST

DAYS BEFORE THE VIOLENCE BEGAN.

>> I FEEL LUCKY THAT I'M BACK

HERE WITH MY FAMILY IN CANADA

AND AT THE SAME TIME I'M FEELING

VERY SAD OF THE SITUATION THAT

THOSE WHO ARE LEFT BEHIND HAVE

TO GO THROUGH.

>> Reporter: MANY STAYED AFTER

TODAY'S SERVICE TO DISCUSS WAYS

THEY CAN HELP AND TO SHARE THEIR

WORRIES ABOUT FAMILY FAR AWAY.

>> PEOPLE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GO

ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL LIVES.

THEY HAVE TO STOCK UP ON FOOD.

>> Reporter: THE GROUP PLANS

TO FIND OUT WHAT THE SUPPLIES

ARE THAT ARE MOST NEEDED IN

HAITI AND THEN RAISE THE MONEY

TO SEND THEM.

TALIA RICCI, CBC NEWS, TORONTO.

>> Rosemary: NOW ABOUT 150

CANADIANS STRANDED IN HAITI HAVE

BEGUN RETURNING HOME.

DURING THE WORST OF THE PROTESTS

IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO EVEN

TRAVEL TO THE AIRPORT.

GLOBAL AFFAIRS CANADA SAYS THAT

A GROUP OF ABOUT 30 MISSIONERS

RETURNED HOME TO ALBERTA

TONIGHT.

>> THEY ARE NORMAL PEOPLE WHO

WANT TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR

FAMILIES AND LIVE A PEACEFUL

LIFE.

>> Rosemary: CANADIANS FROM

ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE BEEN

TAKING THE ADVICE OF THE

GOVERNMENT AND GETTING OUT OF

HAITI WHILE COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS

ARE AVAILABLE.

>> YOU'RE HOME SAFE.

>> Rosemary: 113 TOURISTS FROM

QUÉBEC UP TOED DOWN LAST NIGHT

IN MONTRÉAL.

BACK IN HAITI THEIR TOUR

OPERATOR, AIR TRANSAT, HAD TO

HIRE HELICOPTERS TO AIRLIFT THEM

FROM THEIR RESORT TO THE AIRPORT

IN PORT-AU-PRINCE.

ALSO LAST NIGHT DR. EMILIO

BAZILE ARRIVED IN OTTAWA.

HE WAS GREETED BY FAMILY WHO HAD

FEARED FOR HIS SAFETY.

DR. BAZILE WAS ON A MEDICAL

MISSION WITH FOUR OTHER CANADIAN

CAREGIVERS.

ON FRIDAY THEY RISKED THEIR

LIVES BY DRIVING TO THE AIRPORT,

ENCOUNTERING ROADBLOCKS AND

DEMANDS FOR MONEY.

>> I FEEL ALIVE AND I'M VERY

HAPPY.

AT SOME POINT I DIDN'T EXPECT

THAT.

>> Rosemary: BUT HE DOESN'T

BLAME THE PEOPLE OF HAITI.

>> THOSE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE

BEEN IN MISERY.

THEY DON'T HAVE ELECTRICITY.

THEY DON'T HAVE DRINKING WATER.

THEY DON'T HAVE WHAT WE HAVE

HERE.

AND I EVEN DIDN'T BLAME THEM,

ALTHOUGH I ALMOST GOT KILLED.

>> IT WAS STRESSFUL, VERY

STRESSFUL SITUATION.

AND NOW THAT HE'S BACK WE'RE ALL

RELIEVED.

>> Rosemary: GLOBAL AFFAIRS

CANADA SAYS THAT A FEW OTHER

GROUPS OF AIDE WORKERS AND

MISSIONARIES HAVE

PLANS TO LEAVE TOMORROW.

>> HEALTH OFFICIALS IN B.C. ARE

BATTLING AN OUTBREAK OF MEASLES,

NINE CONFIRMED CASES THIS MONTH

ALONE.

THE VIRUS IS EXTREMELY

CONTAGIOUS AND CAN LEAD TO

SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS AND EVEN

DEATH.

BUT IT'S ALSO ENTIRELY

PREVENTABLE WITH IMMUNIZATION.

NOW THE VANCOUVER FAMILY AT THE

CENTRE OF THE RECENT OUTBREAK IS

SPEAKING OUT TO CBC NEWS.

AS RENÉE FILIPPONE REPORTS, THE

FATHER SAYS THAT IT WASN'T THEIR

FAULT.

>> THE RASH REALLY AMPLIFIED,

LIKE IT WAS ALL OVER.

>> Reporter: EMMANUEL

BILODEAU'S YOUNGEST SON

CONTRACTED MEASLES DURING A

FAMILY TRIP TO VIETNAM LAST

MONTH.

IT SPREAD TO HIS TWO OTHER

CHILDREN.

NONE HAD BEEN GIVEN THE MEASLES

VACCINE AS INFANTS.

>> BACK THEN, YOU HAVE TO THINK

LIKE 10, 12 YEARS AGO, THERE WAS

A LOT OF

DEBATE ON THE M.M.R. VACCINE AND

A LOT OF DRAMA AROUND IT SO WE

WERE A LITTLE BIT CONCERNED AND

WE WERE WORRIED.

>> Reporter: HIS CHILDREN HAVE

SINCE BEEN VACCINATED AGAINST

OTHER DISEASES, INCLUDING BEFORE

THEIR TRIP TO ASIA, BUT NOT FOR

MEASLES.

BILODEAU SAYS THAT THE DOCTOR

DIDN'T RECOMMEND IT.

>> THEY WOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT

YOU NEED M.M.R., LIKE YOUR KIDS,

-- I WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE, YEAH,

FOR SURE, LET'S GET M.M.R. GOING

HERE.

>> Reporter: HE ALSO BLAMES

B.C. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL FOR NOT

DIAGNOSING MEASLES SOON ENOUGH.

THEY MADE MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE

HOSPITAL OVER THE COURSE OF

WEEKS.

>> MEASLES IS HIGHLY INFECTIOUS

AND SPREADS THROUGH THE AIR.

CLOSE CONTACT IS NOT NEEDED FOR

TRANSMISSION.

>> Reporter: THE HEALTH

AUTHORITY IS TRYING TO TRACK

DOWN ANYONE WHO MAY HAVE BEEN IN

CONTACT WITH THE BILODEAUS OR

THE OTHERS WHO HAVE CONTRACTED

MEASLES.

>> IT IS I THINK THE

RESPONSIBILITY OF PEOPLE TO

ENSURE THAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE

VACCINATED.

>> VACCINATION IS AN INCREASING

PROBLEM.

>> Reporter: PUBLIC HEALTH

OFFICIALS

WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE

MESSAGE IS CLEAR -- VACCINES ARE

SAFE.

>> ALL OF THOSE, YOU KNOW,

FORMER CLAIMS THAT IT'S

ASSOCIATED WITH AUTISM HAVE BEEN

DISPROVEN.

>> Reporter: AND, ROSIE, TODAY

THE PRIME MINISTER TWEETED OUT

THAT VACCINES PREVENT OUTBREAKS

LIKE THIS AND SAVE LIVES.

BUT IMMUNIZATIONS AREN'T

MANDATORY IN CANADA.

STUDENTS IN MANITOBA, ONTARIO

AND NEW BRUNSWICK HAVE TO SHOW

PROOF THEY'VE BEEN VACCINATED

WHEN THEY ENROLL FOR SCHOOL BUT

THEY CAN BE EXEMPT FOR HEALTH OR

RELIGIOUS REASONS OR SIMPLY

BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO

VACCINATE THEIR CHILDREN.

>> Rosemary: OKAY, A TOUGH

LESSON FOR PEOPLE TO LEARN

TONIGHT.

THANK YOU.

RENÉE FILIPPONE IN

VANCOUVER.

>>> WAS IT A HATE CRIME OR A

HOAX?

POLICE WANT TO INTERVIEW JUSSIE

SMOLLETT AGAIN ABOUT AN ATTACK

THAT HE

SAYS HAPPENED IN CHICAGO LAST

MONTH AT THE

HANDS OF TRUMP SUPPORTERS.

THE INCIDENT HAS BEEN HELD UP

AS AN UGLY

EXAMPLE OF THE WIDENING

DIVISIONS IN AMERICA BUT NOW

THERE ARE SUGGESTIONS THAT IT

MIGHT

HAVE BEEN STAGED.

ELLEN MAURO HAS THE STORY.

>> I WILL NEVER BE THE MAN THAT

THIS DID NOT HAPPEN TO.

I AM FOREVER CHANGED.

>> Reporter: EVER SINCE JUSSIE

SMOLLETT SAID THAT HE WAS A

VICTIM OF A VIOLENT ATTACK, THE

STORY HAS GRABBED INTERNATIONAL

ATTENTION.

KAMALA HARRIS, A 2020 CONTENDER,

CALLED IT AN

ATTEMPTED MODERN-DAY LYNCHING.

SMOLLETT TOLD POLICE THAT HE WAS

BEATEN

AND HAD A ROPE THROWN AROUND HIS

NECK FROM MEN WHO SHOUTED A

"MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN"

SLOGAN ALONG WITH RACIST AND

HOMOPHOBIC SLURS.

>> President Donald Trump: I

THINK THAT IS HORRIBLE, IT

DOESN'T GET WORSE, AS FAR AS I'M

CONCERNED.

>> Reporter: BUT SMOLLETT'S

STORY APPEARS TO BE IN DOUBT

AFTER TWO

BROTHERS SEEN IN SECURITY VIDEO

WERE ARRESTED AND THEN RELEASED.

POLICE SAY THAT

THE INFORMATION THEY GAVE HAS

SHIFTED THE COURSE OF THE

INVESTIGATION.

>> IT HAS SINCE PREVAILED, ALL

RIGHT.

MY GUYS ARE WALKING HOME, THEY

ARE NOT CHARGED, THEY

ARE NOT SUSPECTS IN THIS CASE.

>> Reporter: TURNS OUT THAT

THE MEN ARE BROTHERS WHO KNEW

SMOLLETT.

ONE IS A PERSONAL TRAINER AND AN

EXTRA ON "EMPIRE," SMOLLETT'S

TV SHOW.

U.S. NEWS OUTLETS ARE QUOTING

UNNAMED SOURCES SAYING THAT

POLICE ARE NOW INVESTIGATING

WHETHER

SMOLLETT PAID THE MEN TO ATTACK

HIM.

>> YOU DO A DISSERVICE WHEN YOU

LIE ABOUT THINGS LIKE THAT.

>> Reporter: SMOLLETT'S TEAM

DENIES HE ORCHESTRATED THE

ATTACK AND IN AN

INTERVIEW ON THURSDAY THE ACTOR

EXPRESSED FRUSTRATION AT HIS

STORY BEING QUESTIONED.

>> LISTEN, IF I TELL THE TRUTH,

THEN THAT'S IT, BECAUSE IT'S THE

TRUTH.

THEN IT BECAME A THING OF, LIKE,

OH, HOW CAN YOU DOUBT THAT?

LIKE HOW DO YOU NOT BELIEVE

THAT?

IT'S THE TRUTH.

>> Reporter: BUT THERE'S

GROWING SKEPTICISM AND ANGER.

>> WE BELIEVE THAT MR. SMOLLETT

LIED ABOUT BEING A VICTIM OF A

HATE CRIME AND ABOUT BEING

ASSAULTED.

AND FOR US IT'S A SLAP IN THE

FACE.

>> Reporter: SMOLLETT SAYS HE

FEELS VICTIMIZED ALL OVER AGAIN

BY THE LATEST DOUBTS OVER HIS

STORY.

BUT IF IT WAS JUST A STORY AND

NOT THE TRUTH, HE COULD FACE

CHARGES FOR LYING TO POLICE.

ELLEN MAURO, CBC NEWS,

WASHINGTON.

>> Rosemary: A GROUP OF WOULD

BE INVESTORS SAY THAT FAKE

EXPERTS ON LOCAL RADIO STATIONS

CONNED THEM OUT OF MILLIONS,

SAYING THAT THE FRAUDSTERS POSED

AS INVESTMENT EXPERTS ON SHOWS

THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE NEWS BUT

WERE ACTUALLY INFOMERCIALS.

"GO PUBLIC'S" INVESTIGATION

FOUND THOSE SO-CALLED EXPERTS

HAD A HISTORY OF DUPING

INVESTORS IN THE U.S. BEFORE

HITTING THE AIRWAVES HERE IN

CANADA.

HERE'S ROSA MARCHITELLI.

>> I'M STILL IN AWE, I'M NOT

GOING TO LIE.

>> Reporter: TRACEY CONRAD AND

HER HUSBAND LISTENED RELIGIOUSLY

FOR MONTHS BEFORE HANDING THEIR

SAVINGS OVER TO WHAT THEY

THOUGHT WERE INVESTMENT EXPERTS

BEING INTERVIEWED ON THE RADIO.

SHOWS THAT SOUNDED LIKE NEWS,

SHE SAID,

WITH RADIO PERSONALITIES WHO

COVER THE NEWS.

>> INSIGHTFUL, EXPERT ADVICE

ABOUT MONEY MATTERS.

>> THIS SHOW IS ABOUT INVESTING

IN MONEY, WITH MONEY AND MAKING

MONEY.

>> Reporter: THE BOMBSHELL

CAME FROM THE PROVINCIAL

REGULATOR, THE ONTARIO

SECURITIES

COMMISSION, SAYING THAT IT

SUSPECTS THOSE SO-CALLED EXPERTS

WERE USING FAKE NAMES AND HAD A

FAKE COMPANY.

>> I TRUSTED WHAT I WAS HEARING

ON THE RADIO.

>> Reporter: TURNS OUT THEY

ALSO WERE NOT ALLOWED TO OPERATE

IN ONTARIO.

CONRAD SAYS THAT ONE CALL FROM

BY THE RADIO STATIONS TO THE

REGULATOR WOULD HAVE CAUGHT

THAT.

>> AND I WOULD HAVE ALL OF MY

MONEY STILL.

>> Reporter: SHE AND HER

HUSBAND SAY THEY LOST $15,000.

DOZENS OF ONTARIO RADIO

LISTENERS SAY THEY'VE LOST EVEN

MORE.

FOR A TOTAL OF $6 MILLION,

ACCORDING TO A CLASS-ACTION

LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST THE

SO-CALLED EXPERTS AND CHORUS

ENTERTAINMENT.

CHORUS OWNS THE GLOBAL NEWS

RADIO SHOW THAT

FEATURED THE FRAUDSTERS ON

PROGRAMMES LIKE "ASK THE

EXPERTS" AND "THE GLOBAL

MARKET."

THE ALLEGATIONS HAVE NOT BEEN

PROVEN IN COURT.

CHORUS SAYS THAT THE PROGRAMMES

WERE

INFOMERCIALS AND WERE CLEARLY

IDENTIFIED AS SUCH WITH

DISCLAIMERS USED BEFORE AND

AFTER AND DURING THE PROGRAMME.

SAYING THAT IT INTENDS TO DEFEND

ITSELF IN COURT AND IS

CONFIDENT

THAT IT ACTED DILIGENTLY AND

RESPONSIBLY, REMOVING THE

PROGRAMMES AFTER HEARING

CONCERNS.

LISTENER CHERYL HANSTKE SAYS

THAT SHE

LOST $20,000 TO THE SAME

FRAUDSTERS,

AFTER LISTENING TO RADIO SHOWS

ON STATIONS OWNED

BY ANOTHER MEDIA COMPANY -- BELL

MEDIA.

>> I NEVER ONCE BELIEVED THAT IT

WAS AN AD.

>> Reporter: BELL SAYS THAT

ITS SHOWS TOO WERE PAID

PROGRAMMES AND WHEN IT BECAME

AWARE OF LEGITIMATE CONCERNS IT

REMOVED THEM.

THE ONTARIO SECURITIES

COMMISSION BELIEVES THAT THE MEN

WHO CALLED THEMSELVES "STEWART

PRICE AND MARTIN SCHWARTZ" ON

RADIO ARE ACTUALLY MARK

SINGER AND BERNARD SEVILLA.

"GO PUBLIC" FOUND THAT SINGER

AND SEVILLA HAVE A COMBINED

HISTORY OF

THEFT AND INVESTMENT FRAUD IN

THE U.S. LONG BEFORE ALLEGEDLY

TARGETING CANADIAN INVESTORS.

IT SEEMS THAT THE MEN HAD

DISAPPEARED ALONG WITH THE

MONEY, NOT RETURNING MESSAGES

FROM "GO PUBLIC" OR INVESTORS.

IN FACT, THE COMPANY'S PHONE

LINE HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED AND

ITS WEBSITE IS DOWN.

>> IT'S HORRIBLE.

>> Reporter: MICHAEL ELLIS IS

THE LAWYER IN THE CLASS ACTION

AGAINST CHORUS AND SAYS THAT

HE'S PREPARING ONE AGAINST BELL.

>> THESE MEDIA COMPANIES WERE

PUTTING PEOPLE ON THE AIR THAT

WERE NOT LICENSED, THAT HAD NO

ABILITY TO DO WHAT THEY SAID

THEY WERE GOING TO DO.

>> Reporter: THIS MEDIA

ETHICIST SAYS THAT THE SITUATION

IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF A BLURRED

LINE BETWEEN NEWS AND

ADVERTISING.

>> THE WHOLE AREA OF PAID

CONTENT IS AN ETHICAL QUAGMIRE.

>> Reporter: THOSE WHO

INVESTED SAY THAT THE RADIO

SHOWS HAVE GONE SILENT ON THE

TOPIC.

>> TO THIS DAY THEY SAY NOTHING.

>> Reporter: NEVER EXPLAINING

WHY THE SO-CALLED EXPERTS ARE NO

LONGER ON THE AIR.

>>> OTHER DEVELOPING STORIES

THAT WE'RE WATCHING TONIGHT HERE

ON "THE NATIONAL"...

>> WE WOKE TO A VERY LOUD BANG

AND

IT WAS A VIOLENT SHAKE OF OUR

>> Rosemary: A MAN IS

UNACCOUNTED FOR AFTER AN

APPARENT EXPLOSION IN CALGARY

EARLIER TODAY.

HE WAS THE TENANT IN A HOUSE

THAT WAS LEVELED.

FIREFIGHTERS HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE

TO GET INSIDE BECAUSE

IT'S SO UNSTABLE.

NEIGHBOURS SAY THAT THE

HOMEOWNER IS AWAY IN THAILAND.

SEVERAL NEARBY HOMES WERE

DAMAGED.

>>> AND A FOLLOW-UP TO THE

RECENT AMBER ALERT IN ONTARIO.

THE MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING HIS

11-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER, RIYA

RAJKUMAR, IS IN HOSPITAL WITH A

SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND.

POLICE SAY THAT THE GUNSHOT WAS

NOT OBVIOUS AND IT WAS NOT

DISCOVERED FOR MORE THAN A DAY.

YESTERDAY OFFICERS NOTICED THE

MAN, ROOPESH RAJKUMAR, WAS NOT

ACTING RIGHT.

DOCTORS FOUND THE WOUND AND HE

WAS TAKEN TO A TRAUMA CENTRE.

>> TORIES ARE BLUE, OUR FUTURE

IS BRIGHT, WITH A GOOD DEAL IN

BREXIT-THEMED POEM OF HOPE AND

OPTIMISM, BUT EVEN THAT COULDN'T

EMBARRASSING DEFEAT IN THE

THIS WEEKEND MAY LAUNCHED A

SHE SPEAKS WITH E.U. LEADERS

THIS WEEK.

BUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE

IMPASSE ARE ALREADY BEING FELT.

BRITISH REGIONAL AIRLINES, FLY

AND AEROSPACE GIANT AIRBUS SAYS

THAT IT'S RECONSIDERING FUTURE

>> IT'S ABSOLUTELY CATASTROPHIC

FOR US AND THIS IS WHY WE WANTED

TO SPEAK UP.

>> Rosemary: MANY OUTSIDE

BRITAIN ARE ALSO SPEAKING UP.

THE ECONOMY IN NEARBY

NETHERLANDS RELIES HEAVILY ON

IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.

AND AS THOMAS DAIGLE FINDS OUT,

BREXIT HAS THE DUTCH PREPARING

FOR THE WORST.

>> Reporter: HOW DO YOU LIKE

THEM ONIONS.

RED, YELLOW, TAKE YOUR PICK.

NO ONE PACKS MORE ONIONS THAN

THE WISKERKE PLANT IN THE

SOUTHWEST OF

THE NETHERLANDS.

FIRST BAGGED AND THEN SHIPPED

AROUND THE WORLD.

THOUGH A WHOLE 20% OF THE

PRODUCTION GOES STRAIGHT TO

BRITAIN.

IT'S A FOURTH GENERATION

BUSINESS AND CHAYENNE WISKERKE

RUNS THE PLACE NOW.

>> WE BAG APPROXIMATELY 185,000

METRIC TONNES OF ONIONS A YEAR.

>> Reporter: AS IT STANDS,

BRITISH

SUPERMARKETS CAN ORDER A LOAD OF

THESE DUTCH ONIONS ONE DAY AND

HAVE THEM IN STORE THE NEXT.

BUT BRITAIN'S E.U. BREAK-UP

COULD MEAN BIG KINKS ALONG THE

WAY.

>> OUR TRUCKS ARE STOPPED AT THE

BORDER.

DO WE NEED TO HAVE PHYSICAL

CHECKS ON DEPARTURE?

WE'RE NOT AWARE.

AND THAT'S THE

MOST DIFFICULT THING, YOU DO NOT

KNOW HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELF.

>> Reporter: IS THERE A RISK

THAT THE SUPERMARKETS COULD RUN

OUT?

>> YES, ABSOLUTELY.

>> Reporter: WHEN SHIPPING

THE DUTCH GOVERNMENT SAYS THAT

I THINK THAT EVERYONE IS

EXCITED.

SO ALL OF THIS AMP AND ALL OF

THIS, YOU KNOW, ALL OF THIS

ENERGY IN THE BUILDING IS TO GET

BEHIND THE WHEEL AND DRIVE THE

CAR.

>> Andrew: AND TO LAUNCH IN

CANADA?

>> IT'S BEEN GREAT WITH ALL OF

THE CANADIAN SPONSORS ON THE

CAR.

YOU KNOW, MYSELF BEING CANADIAN,

IT'S REALLY BEEN -- REALLY BEEN

INCREDIBLE TO DO IT HERE AT

HOME.

>> Andrew: WHAT DID YOU THINK

WHEN YOU SAW THE CAR?

>> THE PINK HAS GROWN ON ME.

THE PINK HAS GROWN ON ME.

AT THE BEGINNING I'M LIKE, GUYS,

I HAVE A PINK CAR.

BUT THEN I BEGAN GETTING ALL OF

THIS GOOD

FEEDBACK ON IT.

AND ALL OF MY FRIENDS MENTIONED

A PINK CAR AND I'M LIKE LIKE,

IT'S NOT THAT BAD, ACTUALLY.

I LIKE THE PINK NOW.

SO, YEAH, IT'S GREAT, DEFINITELY

GOING TO STAND OUT ON THE TRACK.

AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, I'M

PRETTY SURE WITH THE GROUP OF

PEOPLE THAT WE HAVE BEHIND IT

THAT IT WILL BE A GOOD CAR.

>> Andrew: NOT TO OVERSTATE

THE WEIGHT ON YOUR SHOULDERS,

BUT, I MEAN, IT HAD BEEN MORE

THAN 10 YEARS SINCE CANADA EVEN

FIELDED A COMPETITOR BEFORE YOU

CAME ALONG IN THE F1.

DID YOU FEEL THAT -- THAT

PRESSURE BEHIND THE WHEEL?

>> NO, I TAKE IT AS, LIKE --

IT'S A POSITIVE.

IT'S A GOOD VIBE IN A WAY.

I DON'T TAKE IT AS PRESSURE.

IF ANYTHING, I STRIVE OFF OF IT,

AND I FUEL OFF OF IT.

AND AS I TRAVEL THE WORLD AS

WELL, YOU SEE THE CANADIAN FLAG

HERE AND THE CANADIAN FLAG

THERE, IT'S GREAT.

IT'S GREAT ULTIMATELY, IT'S WHAT

GETS ME OUT OF BED IN THE

MORNING, IT'S AN HONOUR TO

REPRESENT THE LIFE.

>> Andrew: TALK ABOUT GROWING

UP, WHO GOT YOU INTO RACING?

>> I HAVE TO SAY THAT I GOT THE

BUG FROM MY DAD.

HE'S ALWAYS BEEN PASSIONATE

ABOUT IT AND HE DID A BIT OF

RACING BACK IN THE DAY HIMSELF.

AND IT WAS A SORT OF A HOBBY.

>> Andrew: MONTRÉAL IS A GOOD

CITY TO GROW UP IN.

>> AND MONTRÉAL IS A GREAT CITY

TO GROW UP IN.

I'D GO TO THE GRAND PRIX EVERY

YEAR AND I'D SEE THE CARS.

>> Andrew: YOU HAVE MEMORIES

OF WATCHING?

>> I DO.

FLASHBACKS.

I REMEMBER MICHAEL SCHUMACHER

WON THE GRAND PRIX A FEW TIMES.

YEAH, I WOKE UP EVERY SUNDAY

MORNING AND IT WAS A THING TO

TURN ON THE TV AT BREAKFAST

BECAUSE MOST OF THE RACES WERE

IN EUROPE AND SO YOU'D GET THE

RACE AT 8:00 a.m. KIND OF

THING.

AND I GOT THE BUG FOR IT.

>> AND IT'S MICHAEL SCHUMACHER

WINNING IN CANADA.

>> I STARTED GO-KARTING AND IT

TOOK OFF FROM THERE.

>> Andrew: WATCHING IS ONE

THING BUT, WHAT, YOUR DAD

ENCOURAGED TO YOU REALLY GET

INTO RACING?

>> HE DIDN'T REALLY ENCOURAGE

ME.

I KIND OF TOOK IT ON MYSELF.

I DID A BIT OF KARTING ON THE

WEEKENDS.

HE DIDN'T THINK MUCH, I RENTED

MY KART

AND WENT ON THE WEEKENDS AND

THEN I STARTED RACING AND HE

STARTED TO WATCH ME RACING.

AND THEN IT JUST BECAME, YOU

KNOW, IT TOOK OVER THE HOCKEY

GAMES.

>> Andrew: AND THE WHOLE TIME,

YOU KNOW, YOU DON'T THINK THAT

YOUR DAD SECRETLY HOPED, WISHED,

THAT YOU WOULD --

>> FOR SURE.

WE HAVE BEEN ON THIS JOURNEY

TOGETHER.

IT'S BEEN LIKE A DREAM TEAM IN A

WAY.

WE'VE ALWAYS ENVISIONED FORMULA

1 DOWN THE ROAD BUT IT WAS SUCH

A LONGSHOT BACK THEN AND NOW I'M

SITTING HERE TODAY AND WORKING

ALONGSIDE HIM AND IT'S EXTREMELY

SPECIAL, YOU KNOW, OPPORTUNITY.

AND I'M THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL

EVERY DAY FOR THAT, FOR THE

SUPPORT THAT HE'S GIVEN ME ALONG

THE WAY.

>> LANCE STROLL!

>> Andrew: AS LANCE SAYS, IT'S

BEEN QUITE A JOURNEY.

ONE FILLED WITH ACHIEVEMENT.

HE MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF BY

SUCCEEDING.

>> HE WINS THE RACE!

>> Andrew: EVERY STEP OF THE

WAY, WINNING MULTIPLE

CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FORMULA 4 AND

FORMULA 3.

>> CANADA HAS PRODUCED ANOTHER

GREAT CHAMPION.

>> Andrew: IT SET THE STAGE

FOR HIS F1 DEBUT IN 2017 AT THE

AGE OF 18.

NO EASY FEAT.

I THINK OF YOUR ROOKIE SEASON,

AZERBAIJAN 2017.

>> YEAH, 2017.

>> Andrew: TAKE ME TO THAT

DAY.

>> OH, IT WAS -- WOW, IT WAS --

THE HIGHLIGHT OF

MY CAREER, HIGHLIGHT OF MY

CAREER, STANDING ON THE FORMULA

1 PODIUM IN MY ROOKIE SEASON AND

I

WAS 18 YEARS OLD.

>> Andrew: IT WAS A WILD RACE.

>> IT WAS.

I STARTED EIGHTH AND I GAINED A

FEW POSITIONS AND SUDDENLY

PEOPLE STARTED DROPPING OUT OF

THE RACE.

AND THEN I OVERTOOK A COUPLE

PEOPLE AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW I

WAS IN SECOND PLACE AND FIRST

PLACE KEY SECONDS UP THE ROAD.

I HAD TWO WORLD CHAMPIONS

CHASING ME

DOWN IN QUICKER CARS AND I HAD

TO MAINTAIN MY PACE OR I

WOULDN'T HAVE FINISHED ON THE

PODIUM.

SO IT WAS A DREAM COME TRUE.

AND IT WILL BE IN THE HISTORY

BOOKS FOREVER.

>> Andrew: YOU HAVE TO TELL ME

ABOUT THE CELEBRATION ON THE

PODIUM THOUGH.

>> I'D REALLY RATHER NOT.

>> Andrew: NO, NO, I WANT TO

KNOW ABOUT THIS BECAUSE FOR

THOSE WHO

DON'T KNOW --

>> YOU MEAN DRINKING FROM THE

SHOE, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

YEAH, YOU CAN JUST SPIT IT OUT.

>> Andrew: SO THE SHOE.

EXPLAIN WHAT THAT WAS?

>> WELL, APPARENTLY IT'S SOME

KIND OF AUSTRALIAN DIFFERENCE

-- TRADITION AND WHEN DANNY

RICARDO WON THE RACE,

HE TENDS TO JUST KIND OF TAKE

HIS SHOE OFF AND POUR SOME

CHAMPAGNE IN THERE AND JUST LIKE

A RITUAL THING THAT HE'S GOT

GOING.

SO I WAS LIKE THE NEWBIE AT THE

TIME SO I GUESS THAT IT WAS MY

BOTTOMS UP.

>> IT'S LIKE DIRT IN THERE AS

WELL.

AND THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF

PEOPLE WATCHING.

>> Andrew: BUT YOUR DAD WAS

THERE.

HE MUST HAVE BEEN JUST REALLY

PROUD.

>> FOR SURE, FOR SURE.

IT WAS JUST AN EMOTIONAL NIGHT

FOR THE STROLL FAMILY.

SO THE THING THAT WAS REALLY

SPECIAL WAS TO HAVE CLOSE PEOPLE

WITH ME THAT WEEKEND AND I WAS

ABLE

TO CELEBRATE WITH THEM, WHICH

WAS PRICELESS.

>> Andrew: NOW WE'RE AT THE

POINT, YOU KNOW, WHERE YOUR DAD

DECIDES, HEY, I WANT TO BUY A

TEAM AND THE TEAM THAT YOU

ULTIMATELY WOULD DRIVE FOR.

I MEAN, WAS IT ALWAYS CLEAR TO

YOU THAT YOU WOULD DRIVE FOR THE

TEAM?

>> YEAH.

WE TALKED ABOUT IT AND DISCUSSED

IT ON A REGULAR BASIS.

IT WAS DEFINITELY THE RIGHT MOVE

FOR MY CAREER AND I -- LIKE, I

CAN SHARE MY FATHER'S VISION.

>> Andrew: LANCE SAYS HE

EMBRACES THAT FATHER/SON RACING

PARTNERSHIP BUT HIS CRITICS HAVE

BEEN TOUGH.

HE'S BEEN BRANDED BY SOME AS A

PAID DRIVER.

SOMEONE WHOSE MOST IMPORTANT

CONTRIBUTION TO A TEAM IS MONEY,

NOT SKILL.

IT'S AN INSULT, ONE THAT HE

DISPUTES FIERCELY, BUT SOME

WOULD SAY THAT IT'S ALSO JUST

PART OF A SPORT WHERE TOP TEAMS

ROUTINELY SEND HUNDREDS OF

MILLIONS OF DOLLARS EVERY YEAR.

PRIVILEGE AND FORMULA 1 DO GO

HAND-IN-HAND BUT FOR STROLL

ULTIMATELY TO HELL WITH THE

CRITICS.

DO YOU FEEL IN SOME WAYS THAT

YOU HAVE TO ALMOST PUSH AWAY A

LITTLE BIT, THAT YOU HAVE TO

DISASSOCIATE YOURSELF FROM YOUR

DAD TO KIND OF TELL PEOPLE, NO,

I AM MYSELF.

I EARNED MY SPOT.

>> I DO MY TALKING ON THE TRACK,

THAT'S KIND OF HOW I ALWAYS

LOOKED AT IT.

YOU KNOW, THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF

CRITICISM FROM THE OUTSIDE THAT

I FEEL OFTEN.

I TRY TO LOOK AT EVERYTHING WITH

A SMILE ON MY FACE.

YOU KNOW, I'VE ALWAYS LOOKED TO

THAT AS BACKGROUND NOISE KIND OF

THING.

BUT MY DAD HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH

ALONG THE WAY WITH SUPPORT.

AND I KNOW THAT I'M VERY

FORTUNATE TO BE IN THE POSITION

THAT I'M IN, BUT I HAVE GRABBED

IT WITH BOTH HANDS SO I JUST TRY

TO DO ME OUT THERE ON THE TRACK.

AND, YOU KNOW, I LOOK AT THE

OPPORTUNITY FROM MY FATHER AS A

POSITIVE THING, NOT A NEGATIVE.

SO I EMBRACE IT.

>> Andrew: SO THE RACE THAT

YOU'RE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?

>> MONTRÉAL, I HAVE TO SAY

MONTRÉAL.

IT'S ONE OF A KIND, ONE OF A

KIND FOR SURE.

>> Andrew: WHAT WOULD IT MEAN

TO DO REALLY WELL AT THAT RACE

FOR YOU?

>> IT WOULD BE EXTRA -- EXTRA

SPECIAL.

I GUESS IT'S THE BEST WAY OF

PUTTING IT.

AT HOME, YEAH, A GOOD RESULT AT

HOME WOULD BE LIKE A CHERRY ON

TOP, I GUESS.

'because we play farmers' Chelsea trolled by their own fans for 'unbeaten in Europa League' Twitter - Duration: 3:13.

CHELSEA have been trolled by their own fans after sending a Twitter post "gloating" that they were "unbeaten so far" in the Europa League

Of course, technically, the content of the tweet was perfectly correct.  December's 2-2 draw against MOL Vidi was the first time the Blues had even dropped points in six games in Europe's second-tier tournament

But, as one supporter pointed out, the results were so good because they had been "playing farmers"

Not quite accurate, but funny nonetheless, given victories came over the likes of PAOK, Bate Borisov and MOL Vidi

The timing of the post was also questionable.  Sarri admits he is in a fight to save his job after his side were humiliated 6-0 by Man City at the Etihad last Sunday

The Blues face Malmo in Sweden tonight looking to bounce back.  But if social media is anything to go by, most fans were more preoccupied with poking fun at their club

In reply to the "unbeaten" tweet, one said: "Can you stop this unbeaten nonsense now

Thank you."  Another posted: "You know, I don't like people losing jobs, so social media manager, you really need to rethink what content you are tweeting

"  One comment read: "Oh boy this 'gloating' doesn't feel right, after that thrashing vs City

"  A fellow user wrote: "Should you really be saying that? What are you trying to do curse us further?"  While one fumed: "You are here in the Europa league playing against farmers and kids and you are shouting unbeaten you should be ashamed of yourself

Why does my newborn only sleep for 20 minutes and then wake crying? - Duration: 3:24.

Hi, I'm Amanda and today I'm going

to answer the question, why is my newborn baby sleeping

for 20 minutes and then waking crying?

So, with newborn babies, there are a few different clues

as to what might be going on as to

when they'll wake within a sleep cycle.

So, a sleep cycle is around 35 to 45 minutes.

Once a baby goes to sleep, after about 10 or so minutes,

they go into a deeper sleep phase

and they'll generally sleep right through

until about 35 to 45 minutes and then wake

and then maybe drift back into another sleep cycle.

So, if your baby is waking after 20 minutes,

there's a couple of things that might be going on there.

The first, and probably the most important,

and the most common, would be wind

causing your baby to wake and become uncomfortable.

So, once your baby has had a feed,

they'll take in little bubbles of air.

Those little bits of air will coalesce

and turn into a larger bubble inside their tummy

and they need to get this out.

If your baby hasn't been winded

or burped properly after a feed, during a feed,

or even before they've been put into bed,

they may end up getting this big, large,

uncomfortable bubble in their tummy and need to burp it out.

So, what can happen is they wake,

they cry because they're so uncomfortable

because they also need to sleep

and they're really tired and they'll cry

and it's most likely the wind causing them to wake.

Another couple of reasons is

that your baby is severely overtired.

If they are waking 10 to 15, 20 minutes into their sleep

and then there are a couple of other reasons

that might be causing them to wake

and that could be also hunger and then the other reasons,

which we would recommend going to your GP or doctor

about would be potential reflux causing them to cry.

But, as I said, the most common and most important

is to make sure they're burped and well.

With my second baby, she was a really easy burper,

but she needed to be burped halfway between a feed,

after a feed, after laying down for a little bit

and also right before going to sleep.

So, there was quite a few burps in there that needed

to come out for her to go to sleep and sleep well.

Lucien Favre has received a welcome injury boost ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League in March with Manuel Akanji's return to training

The Swiss centre-back has been out of action since mid-December when he was forced off against Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga

He suffered a torn muscular fibre in that match and was forced to rest for four weeks, but the 23-year-old has had other issues to deal with

"I had problems with the hip," he told his club's official YouTube channel. "Sometimes with the hip flexors or also with the abbductors, so there were several problems

"But we made a decision and I'm feeling much better now and I hope to be back on the field very soon

"  Akanji played 13 Bundesliga games before his injury. If he can play in the second leg against Spurs, following on from Dortmund's 3-0 defeat at Wembley, it would help to raise hopes of a turnaround in Favre's camp

"I'm really good," said the defender. "I participated in two training sessions

The first one was last was last Sunday and the second after the Champions League match in London

"I'm feeling good and I don't have any pain. I hope it'll go on like that. It hasn't been easy

During the first half of the season I've seen about four or five different doctors

"Some of them said different things, some agreed and that made it difficult to decide

And I think it was the right one because I don't have any pain."  Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is set to miss the second leg with his own torn muscular fibre problem

He was purchased by the Blues in the January transfer window and loaned back to Dortmund for the rest of the season

He will move to the Premier League in the summer. Keep up to date with the latest Tottenham Hotspur news, features and exclusives from football

Meghan Fashion - Meghan shunned Kate's more covered-up choices for Royal Variety show - Duration: 2:04.

Meghan shunned sister-in-law Kate's more covered-up dresses at the Royal Variety Performance with a daring halterneck number last night

The Duchess of Sussex, 37 - who is expecting her first child in the Spring - showed off her shoulders in a £895 sequin top by British brand Safiyaa, to which she added her own custom strap

Her look, which featured a low back, was in contrast to the Duchess of Cambridge's past choices for the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium, which has seen Kate opt for long-sleeved dresses

Kate, 36, wore a black lace dress by American brand Diane von Furstenberg for her first appearance at the variety show back in 2014

The Duchess opted for a dazzling pale blue dress by British designer Jenny Packham, again featuring sleeves, at the event last year, when she was four months pregnant with Prince Louis

Celebrity stylist Rochelle White told FEMAIL: 'Meghan's outfit is a bit more daring than what we usually see

If we compare to what Kate has been seen in, there is more skin on show.'She added that the differences in styles could be due to their distinct roles in the royal family

'Kate has a much more prominent role being married to William and could feel that she needs to be seen in much more elegant, more covered outfits, whereas Meghan can have a more relaxed approached to fashion,' Rochelle said

Rochelle explained how it appeared that the decision to add a halterneck strap to the bustier top could have been to make it less revealing

She added: 'The band around the waist can be used to created a slimmer figure from the front but also from the side show off her growing bump

' Meghan wore her dazzling sequin top by Safiyaa with a black maxi dress by the brand, as she attended her first Royal Variety Performance with Harry, 34, last night

She wore a customised version of the brand's strapless Malaya Top, which included a halterneck strap and a belt around the waist

The Duchess finished her look with a black and gold clutch bag by Australian bag Olga Berg and £7,000 diamond earrings from Canadian jewellery brand Birks, which she has previously worn on a number of occasions

Meghan previously wore a full length cape blue dress by Safiyaa at a black tie reception on the first night of her royal tour in Fiji last month

She showed off a growing baby bump in the spectacular £1,095 gown, which was made in the same shade of blue as the Fijian flag

Last night's Royal Variety show saw the Duke and Duchess meet performers including Take That and the cast of hit West End musical Hamilton before taking their seats to watch the acts from the royal box

The Royal Variety Performance – a mixture of music, dance, singing and comedy - is held in aid of the Royal Variety Charity (RVC), of which The Queen is Patron

You Have To Show Up For The Fight - Duration: 3:26.

- Hey guys, happy Monday.

It's Wemi here with your Monday Dose of Inspiration.

So today I wanna talk about showing up for the fight.

A few years ago I was going through a really hard time.

I was incredibly unhappy,

I was unhappy with my life,

I was unhappy with my job.

It was a lot of unhappiness.

And back then I thought that

a job could make me happy,

that a job could fulfill me.

I didn't know that no life situation or circumstance

could actually do that or had the power to do that,

and so all of this made me incredibly unhappy.

And I remember feeling like I was in quicksand

and I was just drowning,

and there was nothing that was powerful enough

to pull me out of this.

I remember a conversation in particular with my mom,

and she called, she said, "You gotta stop this.

"You gotta get out of this, you gotta snap out of this,

"you gotta do something to get you out of this.

"What is the one thing that you can do right now

"that will get you closer to your life's purpose

"and your soul's urge?"

And there was a tiny voice at the back of my head

that said she's right.

You do have to do something,

anything to get you out of this,

otherwise you'll continue to barrel down this dark hole

and you won't be able to get out of it.

So I said to her I want to start a fashion company,

I wanna start an online store.

I had no idea how I was gonna do that.

I had no money, I was a recent college grad,

I had never started a business before, I had no clue,

but I believed my soul was saying something.

And I tell you this story

because I talk to a lot of people who say,

"It's not time," or, "I don't know where to start."

And there's this disease of perfection

that expects that everything

will be perfectly lined up

when you're ready to do something,

that everything will be perfect.

There is no such thing as a perfect time

to write a book, to have a child,

to travel the world, to start a business.

You just have to start.

And when people say to me,

"I don't know where to start,"

I say imagine yourself on a circle.

Whether you go left or right or up or down,

it doesn't really matter,

you're gonna end up at the same spot

at the very source, the source of your purpose.

So just start somewhere and do something.

Name it and then take inspired action.

And when people say, "I don't have time,"

I've shared this with you guys often,

when I wrote my book, Thank God it's Monday,

I did not have time.

I have a full-time job

that is incredibly challenging

and incredibly demanding,

and I have other creative endeavors,

but I had to make the time.

It was important to my soul to make the time.

And whether it was just one sentence a night,

I made the time to get that sentence out,

to move me closer to my purpose,

to my passion, to my dream.

There is no perfect time.

But it also requires that you show up.

You have to show up for the fight.

You have to show up.

By me uttering, I wanna do this, that was my clarion call,

that was me saying, yes, it is time, I'm going to do this.

This is your life,

it is your responsibility,

it is your journey.

No one else is going to live this journey or this life.

It is yours and you have to take action,

you have to show up for the fight.

If this message touched you,

please share it with as many people as possible.

Let's connect on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube.

@TGIM book is the handle.

You can also sign up at HelpMeLoveMondays.com.

Messages like these will land in your inbox

every Sunday night right in time for Monday.

Have a beautiful Monday and a beautiful week.

I look forward to seeing you guys next week, bye.

Portland Mayor Calls for Investigation of P0lice Over Texts With Right Wing Organizer The New York - Duration: 3:52.

Portland Mayor Calls for Investigation of P0lice Over Texts With Right Wing Organizer The New York

After hundreds of text messages between a police lieutenant and a right wing organizer were made public last week, the mayor of Portland, Ore., has called for an independent investigation of the Portland Police Bureau.

Mayor Ted Wheeler on Friday that the investigation would review the existence of bias in the actions of the P.P.B. leading up to and during demonstrations involving alt right and anti fascist protesters.

The announcement came one day after Willamette Week, a local newspaper, that had been exchanged between Lt. Jeffrey Niiya and the right wing activist, Joey Gibson. The police ultimately , which had been sent from May 2017 to October 2018.

The texts suggested a cordial relationship between Lieutenant Niiya, a commanding officer for the bureaus Rapid Response Team, which patrols protests, and Mr. Gibson, the leader of Patriot Prayer, a pro Trump group whose events have attracted white nationalists and far right extremists. The group has a history of clashing with anti fascist protesters, known as antifa.

Community members have long expressed concerns about police bias during demonstrations, Mr. Wheeler a day before he announced the investigation. Incidents like this contribute to the distrust that so many people have about the Portland Police Bureau.

The city commissioner, Jo Ann Hardesty, said in a that this story, like many that have come before it, simply confirms what many in the community have already known — there are members of the Portland police force who work in collusion with right wing extremists.

In the text messages, Lieutenant Niiya and Mr. Gibson exchanged information about rallies and security arrangements, as well as pleasantries and a few jokes. The transcripts show that Lieutenant Niiya informed Mr. Gibson about plans for police presence ahead of some events, asked him whether he had obtained permits to gather in public and discouraged him from confronting other groups.

I try to do the best I can to communicate to you and the others on the other side who will listen to me, Lieutenant Niiya said in one text last October.

Mr. Wheeler said in his original statement that the texts appear to unnecessarily encourage Joey Gibson, the leader of a group that perpetrates hate speech and violence.

In a response to the recent attention from the news media, Mr. Gibson said in a Facebook video that his communications with Lieutenant Niiya were similar to those he engaged in with police officers in other cities where he organized rallies.

Most of the police officers I talk to are very respectful, Mr. Gibson said. It doesnt mean that they like me. It doesnt mean that they back me. But theyre very professional and they want to basically do everything they can to de escalate things whenever possible.

Lieutenant Niiya did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. In the past, he has exchanged similar text messages with an activist on the left who provided medical care for antifa protesters, according to a series of texts reported on by and in 2017. The activist was ostracized from the group when those texts became public.

After the texts with Mr. Gibson were disclosed, the police chief, Danielle Outlaw, said in that she had called for an internal investigation of their content and context. The Portland Police Bureau has strong organizational values that encompass integrity and accountability, she said. We have also pledged transparency to our community.

The mayor announced the independent investigation the next day, adding that he had heard from the people of Portland. And on Friday, Chief Outlaw said that Lieutenant Niiya had been instructed to stop communicating with any event organizers and would not participate in any Rapid Response Team activities until the investigation could be completed.

On Friday, Mr. Wheeler said that he and Chief Outlaw were going to implement training for Portland police around how to identify white supremacy.

Portland, one of the whitest major metropolitan areas in the United States, is a politically progressive city with . In recent years it has been that have attracted extremist groups to its streets and parks, sometimes resulting in violence.

Last year, a of how the Portland police dealt with demonstrations said that police officers found it more difficult to work with antifa protesters because of that groups looser hierarchy, which, according to one unnamed lieutenant, made it difficult for the police to find a single point of contact to convey information.

It also revealed that officers viewed activists on the left as more threatening and less mainstream than those on the right.

Liverpool News - Liverpool hope to win race for 19 y/o star who would threaten Keita's first team s - Duration: 1:18.

As reported by The Mirror, Liverpool are amongst a number of clubs interested in signing Benfica's attacking midfield sensation Joao Felix, who is sending shockwaves around Europe as a result of his performances over in Portugal

What's the word, then?  The Reds, along with Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, are all interested in securing the 19-year-old playmaker's signature, although it will reportedly take a huge £105m fee to do so

Felix has already hit seven goals and recorded three assists in just eight league starts for Benfica this season, and is viewed as one of the hottest properties on the market as his stock looks set to continue growing

As per the aforementioned article, Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be the teenager's idol, although a move to Turin to link up with the 33-year-old looks unlikely as the Old Lady don't appear to be getting involved in the race to sign him

Whose position would be under threat if Felix signed for Liverpool?  If Jurgen Klopp's Reds did manage to fend off Europe's biggest clubs to bring Felix to Anfield, then Naby Keita's place in the team could potentially come under threat despite arriving at the club less than a year ago

The Guinean international has had a slow start to his Liverpool career, but has picked up his form of late thanks to a continued run in the team, where his ability to get on the ball and drive forward through the centre has caught the eye

Felix is a tricky central attacking midfielder who likes to pick the ball up in the No

10 role, the area that Keita enjoys dribbling into, so it would be tricky to see how the pair would play together

If Felix does end up costing the reported £105m fee, one would assume that Klopp would intend to play him in the first team over Keita, which would all but end his involvement as a consistent first-team regular

Arsene Wenger WORRIED for Arsenal and admits uncertainty over own future - Duration: 3:00.

The Wales international has signed a pre-contract agreement with Juventus and will officially join the Turin club on July 1, once his existing deal with the Gunners expires

The 28-year-old has spent the last 11 years in north London – largely under the stewardship of Wenger, who signed the midfielder from Cardiff when he was still a teenager in 2008

"It will be a loss for Arsenal. I must say it will be an interesting move for Ramsey," said Wenger, speaking at the Laureus Sport for Good presentation

"He is a player who is great going forward. His main quality is he can keep the final ball and he makes interesting runs from deep

"You don't find many players today who can make midfield runs off the ball. It will be an interesting addition for Juventus

" Wenger has been out of work since leaving the Emirates Stadium at the end of last season although he continues to be linked with a host of top management positions – including at Real Madrid and Paris St Germain

The Frenchman said in October that he expected to return to management by the start of this year although he was unable to shed any light on his future on Sunday

He said: "My future is unknown – even for me. I enjoy daily life now and I have been travelling a lot recently all over the world

"I am enjoying a little bit less pressure. And more freedom as well. But I miss the competition

" Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira – two of Wenger's former players at Arsenal – have had contrasting introductions to European management

While Henry lasted just three months at Monaco before being replaced recently by his predecessor Leonardo Jardim at the Stade Louis II in January, Vieira has steered Nice to seventh in Ligue 1

Wenger said: "Both have the qualities to be outstanding managers. "If you arrive in October, and the team is in a very bad position, you have three months

Because in January everybody starts to become nervous that things could go very badly

"You have less time when you arrive in the middle of the season. That is what happened to Thierry

"How he bounces back will be very important. I think he has the quality and desire to make a career and a career is judged on the longer period

"

Spring SIZZLE as 20C Britain set for hottest February EVER over half-term - Duration: 5:02.

The mercury is expected to soar to 20C this week – as bookies predict this February could be the hottest in the history books

And it will kick off a spring sizzle with two months of sun and balmy 25C heat forecast

Families are set to swap raincoats and umbrellas for buckets and spades as they hit the beach during the freak weather over February half-term, thanks to a plume of hot air from the Sahara blowing in to the UK

It comes as the Met Office said there is a chance of February's current 19.7C record – set on February 13, 1998 in Greenwich, London – being smashed later this week

February maximums usually average at 6-7C – but 20C highs are possible according to The Weather Outlook, which anticipates "exceptionally mild" weather in the second half of the week

Meanwhile Hobart, in Tasmania, Australia, where it is currently summer, will enjoy only 17C highs from mid week

Mainly pleasant temperatures are expected for the month ahead with a warmer than usual March and April

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: "Computer models show record 20C February temperatures are possible from the coming weekend

"Families flying abroad for half-term sun could have stayed home and gone to a UK beach instead

"Plumes of warm air from the Sahara are due in coming days and also in spring. 25C is certainly likely by April

" And another roasting summer is on the cards.  Brian added: "There's a good chance of another fine summer due to the past 12 months' continuing pattern of high pressure blocking, which brings hot conditions in summer

"     It comes as bookies Coral slashed the odds on this year's being the hottest ever

Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead said: "Last year was a scorcher – but 2019 is already simmering and punters reckon this summer will be even hotter

"  Weathermen have now scrapped forecasts of a "Beast from the East" chill, blaming warm southerly winds arriving instead of expected cold gusts from the east

Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said: "The February temperature record is 19

7C – and there's a chance of reaching it, albeit a low chance. "The mid-teens are likely later in the week ahead, with potential for higher, although it's a bit too early to say

"Monday and Tuesday are at 10-12C - still well above average - before southerly winds return from midweek with 15C

"Temperatures will generally be on the milder side over the next 30 days, with short colder spells at times

✅ Breaking News - Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain lands in London for Chelsea medical - Duration: 3:45.

Gonzalo Higuain has landed in England for a medical as he prepares to complete his loan move to Chelsea in the coming hours

The Juventus striker, who has been at AC Milan for the first half of the season, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League and now the deal is set to be done - but not in time for him to face Tottenham on Thursday night

Chelsea are in desperate need for attacking reinforcements and Higuain boarded a private flight at Milan's Linate Airport at 7am UK time, bound for Farnborough

Share this article Share 1.4k shares From there, it was a 45-minute drive to Chelsea's Cobham training ground for the medical, as Chelsea battled to get the deal over the line before midday

That would have enabled the striker to play against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday night, but boss Maurizio Sarri revealed in his press conference that it was 'impossible' to get the contract signed in time

Speaking to the media, he said: 'It's impossible. I don't know because I have to speak to the doctor

I haven't seen him before. I think for tomorrow it's impossible. 'I hope so I think the club will agree with me when I told him my opinion about the team

I think January is very difficult for a striker. I think the club is working very well because it's not easy to get a new striker in January

'He's a very strong striker. Especially in my first season in Naples. He scored 36 goals in 35 matches in the Serie A

He did very well. For sure he is one of the best strikers in my career.'He played for four seasons at Real Madrid I think so he has the right experience to play here

'Spurs lead the Carabao Cup tie 1-0 going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge, and Higuain will be likely to watch the tie from the stands

His arrival will signal the beginning of the end for Alvaro Morata, who is expected to join Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of the season

The incoming Chelsea man flourished under Sarri at Napoli, before moving to Juventus in 2016 and then to AC Milan on loan

Sarri and the striker enjoyed success together at Napoli before Higuain left for Serie A rivals Juventus in a stunning £76m move back in the summer of 2016

Sarri is hopeful the Argentina international can end Chelsea's problems in attack, with the Blues having scored just four goals in their last five games

AC Milan are on the verge of completing a £30million deal for Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, which has paved the way for Higuain's move to Chelsea

The Serie A side have reportedly agreed a fee to sign the forward, who only joined Genoa in the summer

Piatek, who has netted 13 league goals this season, is expected in Milan on Wednesday for a medical ahead of signing a lucrative five-year deal

The case for an intensive and comprehensive Power Leadership Training - Duration: 6:09.

Hello and welcome.

My name is Radu Magdin.

I am an european consultant and trainer.

I've been working quite a lot in the past years with prime ministers, high level politicians,

business leaders and civil society current or emerging leaders and I am here to tell

you more about an intensive and comprehensive power leadership training.

Why is this relevant?

Because I've noticed in my activity as a trainer that niche trainings are good.

But at the same time there is a need for a wider solution particularly looking at the

challenges of the 21th century and the turbulent world we are living in.

So let me walk you page by page in short to such a solution.

We'll start with some examples.

Let's say you are first time president or first time CEO and it's your first day in office.

That is quite a lot of pressure.

You have to do some decent expectations management.

You have to look at hopes.

You have to look at dreams, at legitimate interests and you have to combine all of this

to make sure you also keep your popularity floating.

Of course if you don't have a proper strategy for this or the execution is not right then

of course there will be exhaustion.

Look what happen to Macron: so much hope and then also political exhaustion in just a year and a half.

It doesn't mean him or other leaders can not make a comeback.

Everybody can eventually make a comeback.

But why fall too much, when you can actually think smarter, act smarter, prepare better

and succeed without falling to manage the challenges you are faced with.

So what I would like to propose to you is a solution based on 3 building blocks.

Let us combine power strategy and communications to decide what, when and how we plan, we act and we say.

This is highly relevant because as you will see whenever we are doing a niche training

we are learning a lot of interesting things.

I've been myself to a lot of trainings to improve myself.

Whether we are talking about media relations, strategic planing, management, public speaking

and so on we are becoming better at niche issues, but the truth is when you are theleader of an organization

or a country, or you simply an informal leader in your community

and people have high expectations of you, well... you have to have a more comprehensive

you and this is why we are here today because in this dynamic world you need comprehensive new course.

I believe we can achieve that.

This can be done for you and your team in just 2-3 days based on assembling 4 major issues.

This 4 major issues of training I call them operations or ops

To stress on 2 issues the importance of both strategic planing and vital discipline execution.

Let us start with this operations that will turn you into a successful power leader.

Operation Define Operation Anchor

Operation Power play and Operation Stratcom

First operation Define because it starts with you.

It starts with your objectives, about defining yourself, knowing who you are and knowing

what image and what action to project in order to meet your objectives.

it's really important to get your narrative right.

This is about storytelling.

Operation Anchor.

It's really important how you position yourself in the environment you are working with.

If you don't properly anchor yourself from the very beginning you might be seeing some

cracks in your strategy and in the steps ahead.

Operation Power Play Of course in respective of your level of planing

you are interacting with a lot of people or platforms, organizations who could have competing interests in you.

It's a power game out there.

And based on this power play we can teach you how you can interact with other competitors

or with people with which you may collaborat e.

How to build alliances and in the same time how to deal with rivals.

All of this have to do first with substance.

then and only then we move to spinning and the style issues and we are dealing with strategic communications.

This is highly relevant because you really have to pick your words at the right moment

in time, say it right, use the proper body language and in the same time you use the

proper channels both at home and abroad if you are a global power player.

We will assemble all of this starting from your objectives in just 2-3 days for you and your team.

Now why is this highly relevant and why should this motivate and convince you.

It's really important to train to become a true power leader.

You'll be getting the knowhow, the knowledge, a solid plan and a lot of practical, hands-on

real advice for your success.

Let's partner.

Me I am a highly motivated individual.

I am motivated by my family, I am motivated by a better world and a passion for leadership.

If you are passionate as well, if you are enthusiastic, current or emerging leader

I am very happy to work with you to meet your goals and become a true power leader.

I am Radu Magdin and I am thanking you for your time.
