How PEZ Is Made - Duration: 3:36.

Narrator: Recognizable for their brick shape

and fun dispensers, PEZ is an American candy staple.

First created as a breath mint more than 90 years ago,

today, PEZ has an endless amount of flavors

and types of dispensers.

But how does a family-owned company

that started in 1927 continue to find success

in the competitive candy industry today?

It's nostalgia. It's relatable.

I think everybody's had one at some point in their life,

whether it was purposefully or just given as a gift,

but everybody knows what a PEZ dispenser is,

and even if you say PEZ dispenser, and they're like, "what?"

You kinda give 'em one of these...

"Oh, yeah, I know what you're talkin' about," you know,

and how many brands really have

that level of recognizability?

Orange, Connecticut, has been home

to the PEZ factory since 1973,

and we were able to get a look inside.

So we're all geared up, we have our lab coat on,

our hairnet. Shawn is gonna give me rare access

to see how PEZ candies are made here in the factory.

So, are you ready, Shawn?

Let's go.

The process begins with granulated table sugar,

which is stored outside in the factory's sugar silo.

600 pounds of sugar are used in one batch of PEZ,

totaling around one million rolls of wrapped candy per day.

A giant set of rollers crushed that sugar

to turn it into a powder to easily shape the brick tablets.

To get PEZ's signature sweet taste, corn syrup

and flavorings are carefully weighed

and added to the sugar.

Next up, the tablet press,

a powerful machine that compresses the mix

into the brick-shaped tablets.

It smells so good in here.

The factory makes about 12 million individual tablets a day.

Tablets are sorted into bins

and placed on the conveyor belt,

making their way into the wrapping room.

The candies are then poured out of the bins

and tightly pushed down a conveyor in rolls of 12.

My favorite part: watching the endless rows of tablets

form into a completed PEZ pack.

This is the Vanilla Cupcake flavor

that we just saw being made.

It's hot. It's right off the machine.

I'm excited to try this flavor.

It's a new one for PEZ.

I'm gonna eat this whole pack.

Of course, one of the best parts of PEZ

is the fun dispenser that it's paired with.

It's amazing to see what part of the process

is done by machinery and what part is done by hand.

Right. Yeah.

From there, the PEZ candies are ready to be packaged

and shipped to stores.

And I couldn't resist stopping by

the PEZ Visitor Center on my way out.

It's one of those things that's stood the test of time,

and we want people to continue to enjoy that.

We still look for what the new, hottest properties are,

the trends that are gonna hopefully be around for a while,

we try to capture that in a PEZ dispenser. It's fun.

That's really what we need today.

Trump is getting it right on Venezuela. In fact, he needs to double down Los Angeles Times - Duration: 3:13.

Trump is getting it right on Venezuela. In fact, he needs to double down Los Angeles Times

With President Trump publicly denouncing the in Venezuela last week, the United States is inching further toward a showdown with President Nicol and 225;s Maduros regime. Its a confrontation the Trump administration cannot afford to lose.

The Maduro regime is financing chaos and corruption throughout the Americas. Its civilian and military leaders are suspected of looting in oil revenue. Some are moving to the U.S. from Venezuela every month, according to U.S. officials, much of it controlled by Venezuelan government and military officials. This organized crime spree is destabilizing the region and fueling illegal migration, including at the U.S. Mexico border.

The Trump administration has surprised critics by working in concert with dozens of other governments to find a constitutional and democratic solution to the crisis. Since early in his term, Trumps team at the Treasury Department has used financial sanctions to freeze at least dollar 2 billion in the hands of corrupt Venezuelan leaders, amassed from embezzlement and narcotics trafficking. In late January, the Treasury Department prohibited Citgo, a U.S. subsidiary of Venezuelas state owned oil company, from sending profits back home.

Governments that have committed to restoring democratic order in Venezuela must complete this urgent mission.

These sanctions will hurt the regimes ability to pay off its supporters. But to truly stop Maduro and his cronies, the Trump administration must do more.

Maduro is holding on to power through corruption, blackmail, ruthless repression and assistance from other states. Cuban advisors have micromanaged the destruction of the private economy and creation of a police state backed by armed gangs. Russian weapons and Chinese financing bolster the regimes anti democratic agenda. Colombian narco terrorists and Hezbollah operate in Venezuela with the regimes complicity.

More than 50 nations, including the U.S. and key Latin American countries, consider Maduro illegitimate because of a largely rigged election he staged last May. Instead, these countries recognize Venezuelas only democratically elected institution, the National Assembly, as the legitimate representative of the Venezuelan people.

Last month, the Assemblys presiding officer, Juan Guaid and 243;, assumed the powers of interim president of the republic, responsible for organizing free elections to choose a successor. He has rallied massive street demonstrations calling on Maduro to yield power.

Guaid and 243; has also called on the international community to provide humanitarian aid to millions of Venezuelans who are barely surviving in the collapsed economy. Millions more are pouring into Colombia, Brazil and other countries in search of food, medicine, jobs and security. Maduro is blocking international aid from reaching desperate people, closing a major bridge on the Colombian border and deploying paramilitary groups to impose his will.

Trump warned last month that all options are on the table, but a U.S. invasion appears unlikely. U.S. officials are expecting that Venezuelas army, enticed by an offer of amnesty, could rebel against Maduro to restore constitutional order.

Emboldened by strong U.S. support for Guaid and 243;, the internal opposition has been coaxing members of the military to oust the Maduro regime. But hurdles remain.

Last year, after the regime discovered that some military officers were organizing a rebellion, the plotters were jailed and tortured to set an example. The international community, and especially the U.S., must ratchet up pressure on the regime and convince powerful military commanders of Maduros demise.

Maduro has been under U.S. investigation for drug trafficking and money laundering for years, along with his wife, Cilia Flores, and his key henchmen, Vice President Tareck El Aissami and Diosdado Cabello, a top figure in Maduros party. American prosecutors should be encouraged to issue or unseal indictments of these individuals and offer significant monetary rewards for their capture.

Moreover, the regimes income from drug trafficking and other sources can be choked off by ramping up U.S. law enforcement and military assets in the region, together with nearby allies such as Brazil and Colombia.

Last Friday, Venezuelas legitimate Supreme Court of Justice, now operating in exile, called upon Guaid and 243; to authorize a humanitarian corridor within the country, through which a military coalition and peace mission would be permitted to deliver aid. The U.S. should work with other willing governments to honor this request.

Finally, the Cuban regime must be held accountable. Governments should demand the expulsion of Cuban advisors from Venezuela and hold Havana responsible for any violence committed by Cuban trained groups. Raul Castros son in law, Luis Alberto Rodriguez Lopez Callejas, and other conspirators should face penalties and possibly sanctions for aiding and abetting human rights abuses and narco trafficking in Venezuela.

Some 30 million Venezuelans need to be rescued from Maduros lawless regime. Governments that have committed to restoring democratic order in Venezuela must complete this urgent mission.

Roger F. Noriega is a former U.S. ambassador to the Organization of American States and a former assistant secretary of State for Western Hemisphere affairs. He is a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

Liverpool News - Who is Joao Felix? A look at the £105m Manchester United & Liverpool transfer targ - Duration: 5:07.

Joao Felix is a name we've heard a lot more about recently, but who is the Benfica wonderkid supposedly already worth £105million and being linked with a potential transfer to the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool? Still only 19 years of age, Felix is making a real impression in his native Portugal this season, leading to reports like this from the Daily Mirror that the 'new Cristiano Ronaldo' could soon be set for a big move and that his club value him at £105m

Here's our low-down on the teenage sensation who we're sure to be hearing a lot more about in the coming months and beyond…Position and playing style A player yet to find one set position, it seems Felix may be too good to pin down to just one role

Having largely played as a winger in his youth, Felix has gradually moved into more of a central role as his career's gone on, coming in to the Benfica first-team initially as a wide-forward in a front three, and then one half of a front two

A player who likes to drift wide or into that number ten area, Felix has something to offer in all those roles – a quick and tricky runner, he can tear full-backs apart on either flank, or, as an intelligent passer and clinical finisher, he can pop up behind the main centre-forward to link play or get on the score sheet himself

Despite the inevitable Ronaldo comparisons due to being Portuguese, Felix arguably looks a bit more like Lionel Messi due to his small frame and desire to be involved in as much build-up play as possible, even if he does look like he could also become almost as good a poacher as Ronaldo

Current form The Portugal Under-21 international has nine goals and three assists in 24 games in all competitions this season in what has been a breakthrough campaign for him

Felix had been a regular at youth level for Benfica last season, but he's been a key player for the senior side since his promotion this term

Most recently, the youngster has three goals and two assists in his last five appearances

Joao Felix could be set for a big transfer after impressing at Benfica History Felix started out at Porto as a youngster, and how they must be regretting letting him go

According to Sky Sports, the teenager was seen as too small and too slight for Porto as they let a number of youth players leave

Felix had been at Porto for six years between 2008 and 2014 before a spell at Padroense and then finally his move to Benfica in 2015

The wonderkid scored seven goals in 29 games for Benfica B before becoming a first-team regular this season

Transfer suitors According to the Mirror, the list is long: Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich

If we do see the 19-year-old in the Premier League, one imagines United or City would be the best-placed financially to snap him up, with City having that advantage of generally offering top young players the chance to develop their game under the expert guidance of Pep Guardiola

Although City don't promote from within that much, Phil Foden has had some first-team chances this season, while Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus both joined as youngsters and have been made key players in the side

At United, Felix could obviously be a good replacement for the struggling Alexis Sanchez, while Liverpool could perhaps do with more options up front as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino haven't quite hit the heights of last season this term

Chelsea's interest also make sense given the Eden Hazard situation. Arsenal, you'd think, surely cannot afford him

Real Madrid, PSG or Bayern would be good moves, though the competition at all would be fierce to the extent that you worry it might halt his development

And what a shame that would be.
