Waching daily Feb 17 2019

In addition to whatever celebs get paid for just doing their jobs, they also rake it in

by attending private events and parties.

Planning your next blowout and want a really spectacular act or special guest?

Here's what kind of moolah you'll need to book your favorite star.

Scott Disick

Keeping Up with the Kardashians cast member Scott Disick may not top your list of most-wanted

A-listers, but as GQ revealed in 2016,

"Scott Disick, the runt of the Kardashian litter, the f---up father of Kourtney's three

children, makes more money doing nothing than most Americans earn in an entire year."

"Look at you, this is what you do during the day, you lay in the sun and you tan?"

The mag explained that the celeb gets paid seventy to eighty grand a night in appearance

fees, and at one point, he earned a whopping $250,000 for a set of appearances in the U.K.

GQ noted Disick was contracted to appear eight times a year at 1OAK Las Vegas in 2016, saying,

"He says a few hoarse words on the mic, sits back down, and sips slowly from a water bottle

at his VIP table, out of the crowd's sight."

Jennifer Lopez

Considering her ongoing A-lister status, it's not surprising that Jennifer Lopez pulls in

hefty fees.

But that didn't stop her from catching bad press in 2013, when Us Weekly reported she'd

earned $1.5 million to sing at a birthday party for the President of Turkmenistan, a

dictator who has been accused of human rights violations.

Per Us Weekly, Lopez's reps later released a statement saying,

"The event was vetted by her representatives, had there been knowledge of human [rights]

issues of any kind, Jennifer would not have attended."

"When I heard it like that, I was like, are we crazy?"

In 2016, Lopez made headlines again for a high-profile private appearance at the wedding

of the son of a Russian billionaire.

According to Elle, Lopez earned a whopping $5 million to perform at the nuptials.

Kim Kardashian

These days it seems like the Kardashians can spin anything into money, so it's not too

shocking that they're big players in the private appearances game.

As far back as 2010, Glamour UK reported Kim Kardashian was earning major money for club

appearances, estimating that she earned more than $500,000 for a series of 30th birthday

appearances in Vegas.

And by 2016, Page Six reported that her fee for showing up to party in the Hamptons was

a whopping $700,000.

"I have warned everyone that I will come for them if they even dare try to copy anything

that I'm doing"

But according to leaked emails obtained by Radar Online in 2014, Kardashian demands even

more on top of her appearance fee, including:

"5 first class tickets, plus 1 coach, first class hotel accommodations […] first class

exclusive ground transportation, airport greeter service, security, glam fee […] and a per

diem."

"Mom, she's always late."

"No I'm here!"

"Oh come on…"

"Really?"

Beyonce

Beyoncé found herself in hot water when news broke that she'd performed at a 2009 New Year's

Eve party hosted by the Gaddafi family.

The big deal?

Libya's Muammar Gaddafi was an infamously repressive dictator, until his death in 2011.

According to The Guardian, Beyoncé reportedly received $2 million to perform five songs.

In March 2011 Beyoncé's publicist released a statement via Entertainment Weekly that

explained,

"All monies paid to Beyoncé […] were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti.

[…] Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the [Gaddafi]

family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause."

Paris Hilton

"So I'm just so honored and excited for foam and diamonds again this year.

It's gonna be incredible"

By 2013, Paris Hilton's heyday as a private appearance high-earner was waning, with a

source telling Radar Online that the reality star's fees for a club appearance had dropped

from seven hundred and fifty, to five hundred grand, to "the much lower fee of $250,000."

Cut to 2014, and the tide had turned for Hilton, with The Sun reporting that she'd earned $2.7

million for just four nights of DJ-ing.

When Page Six asked Hilton to confirm the rumored rate of $1 million per appearance,

she replied,

"My mother always told me it's not polite to discuss money, but it's true."

By 2017, the Daily Mail reported that Hilton's club appearance fees had settled somewhere

closer to $300,000.

Mariah Carey

"Is this a normal outfit for people to wear?

I don't know.

But I'm at home and this is what I wear"

As The Guardian reported in 2013, Mariah Carey came under fire when it came to light that

she had accepted $1 million to perform at a benefit for the Angolan Red Cross.

Carey reportedly posed for pictures with the then Angolan president, who stood accused

of major corruption.

According to The Guardian, Carey's appearance came on the heels of another controversial

private appearance in 2008 at a New Year's party for the Gaddafi family, for which the

celeb reportedly got paid $1 million.

She later released a statement saying,

"I was naive and unaware of who I was booked to perform for.

I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess."

But none of the bad press stopped Carey from booking a private appearance at a Brazilian

New Year's party in 2015, for which TMZ reported she'd be receiving between $2 million and

$5 million.

This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson on Beth's episode: 'There's hope — and there's regret' - Duration: 10:22.

It's the last day of filming before Christmas break, and the halls of This Is Us are decked with family tension

Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and cousin Zoe (Melanie Liburd) sit precariously at a table with Beth's commanding mother, Carol (Phylicia Rashad), whom they're trying to coax into retirement

Added stress: Beth hasn't told Carol she's unemployed. "What do you know about having a job?" Carol scoffs to documentarian Zoe as Beth squirms

"I'm talking about picking a real path and sticking to it. Like Bethany. Bethany went to college

Bethany got her master's. Bethany wakes up every morning filled with purpose because…" "Bethany got laid off months ago!" blurts out Beth

It's painfully quiet as Carol stares at her daughter. Right before the cameras stop, Watson breaks the silence — and cracks up everyone on set — by ad-libbing, "You wanna say grace?"   After three seasons of wondering about the story behind Beth, This Is Us viewers are about to get their prayers answered

On Feb. 19 at 9 p.m., NBC's era-hopping family drama will unveil an episode titled "Our Little Island Girl," which explores Randall's (Sterling K

Brown) sharp, protective, grounding wife, who is still smarting from being laid off as an urban planner

Enough slow-peeling, it's time to toss this onion into the soup. "The whole thing gets cooked now," Watson says after filming that tête-à-tête-à-tête while offering up more metaphors

"We're going deep. We're digging in the crates. In other seasons, she's been helping others and trying to be there for her husband as he figures himself out, but this time she's not feeling easy about where she is in life, so she really wants to find her true path

"  It's a showcase for the fierce fan favorite that the TIU writers have been eyeing since last season

"Susan can do everything. She's so funny, and she crushes anything we give her dramatically," testifies executive producer Elizabeth Berger

"There's something so aspirational about Randall and Beth as a couple, and we know so much about Randall that people were like, 'More on her! More on her!' This is one where both writers and fans were desperate to delve into her more thoroughly

"  "Our Little Island Girl" not only excavates Beth's fraught past, it illuminates her creative side and builds a bridge to the future, which was teased in the November fall finale's flash-forward that featured a fiftysomething Beth lording over a dance studio

Limber up, because this journey will explore her love of ballet. "She was willing to try hard and sacrifice to be a dancer; it meant everything to her," says Watson

And that journey wasn't easy — or even fully realized. Teases Waston: "There's hope — and then there's regret

"  There's also star wattage in the guest cast for this special episode (which was written and directed by women: Eboni Freeman and Anne Fletcher, respectively

ER vet Goran Višnjić will pop up as Beth's teacher. Alias alum Carl Lumbly (whose parents, like Watson's, are Jamaican) plays Beth's Jamaican father, who died when she was young, as Beth revealed in season 1

("I definitely wanted authenticity in that character," she notes, "and that was something that I felt strongly about championing

") And then there's the aforementioned The Cosby Show star/Tony winner. "I responded by screaming a little bit," Watson says of Rashad's casting

"It's just perfect…I remember thinking, 'You better act like your life depends on it

'"  Watson knows that life-or-death stakes have also been attached by viewers to the marital distress Beth and Randall have weathered this season

"I've learned how important it is for fans to see this loving relationship [of] a black couple on television, a marriage that works, and people who support each other," she says

"Many of us have grown up without a lot of those images, so having the opportunity to represent that means a lot

And people want to see that kept intact." And more challenges await America's Couple: "It takes work — and we're going to show the work that it takes

"  The Howard University and NYU graduate — who stars with Tom Hanks in the upcoming Fred Rogers biopic, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood — is known for putting in the work in real life, too: She refused to use a stunt double for Beth's dancing

"The way Susan threw herself into dance was just so extraordinary," notes Berger

"It was so impressive to all of us. We were lucky enough to get Anne Fletcher to direct this episode, who has extensive experience as a choreographer

We asked Susan along the way, 'Do you want a double? Do you want anyone doing this for you?' And she was like, 'Hell, no!' That is Susan

She is someone who is going to want to tackle it all herself and give 100 million percent to it

"  "It didn't have to be the Bolshoi, it just needed to be this woman telling her heart through dance," reasons the actress, who'd previously studied ballet, tap, jazz, African, Brazilian, Caribbean, you name it

"I didn't care if the kicks were perfect; I didn't care if the leaps were perfect

I wanted the energy to be hers in every part of the dance."  It's just the latest turn for a character in whom Watson feels both pride and responsibility

"It meant a lot to represent all these women that are working and striving," she says

"What they do day to day isn't necessarily labeled as 'extraordinary,' but it is an extraordinary thing to raise a family, to be a supportive wife

Those are things that we should really, as Jamaicans would say, 'big up' women for

Praise women for the everyday of it." And this is the day that Beth — and Watson — gets her due

This Designer Dress Is Under $100 on Sale at Saks Off 5th - US News - Duration: 6:11.

There's nothing like a good black dress to have us looking and feeling our best. It's a flattering mood-lifter and a timeless essential that goes with everything, meaning it's going everywhere with us

So we might as well have the best of the best, right? Especially when it's on major sale!  If our wardrobe were a galaxy, the Helmut Lang Back Twist Racer Dress would be the sun

Everything else just orbits around it, waiting for it to rise day after day, hoping to bask in its fabulousness

This dress may not provide much vitamin D, but it definitely radiates vitamin S, as in "sleek sophistication

" Also, like the sun, it is a star that's ready to shine, but can do so day or night!    This dress has a fitted, bodycon silhouette, its hem hitting at a midi-length just below the knee, leaving us enough room to walk comfortably so we're not waddling around like a penguin

Penguins are cute, but maybe just to look at, not to be.  This dress also has a scoop neckline resting snugly against our chest, encouraging us to pull our favorite necklaces out of the jewelry box

Outlining the neckline are the wide shoulder straps, which lead to that literal twist we mentioned at the back of the dress! Just below the back of the neck, the straps join together, allowing the fabric below to wrap around it, twisting to form a narrow keyhole which reaches just short of the bottoms of the shoulder blades

Peek-a-boo, we see the flawless execution of a surprise accent! (Was that supposed to rhyme?)  Because of the way the fabric stylishly connects at the twist, it forms a triangular effect on the back, baring our shoulders and delivering the racerback look we were promised in the dress' name

This triangular shape draws our eyes directly to the twist and keyhole. If our hair is long enough to cover this detail, we definitely recommend putting it up or brushing it elegantly to the side!  Keeping it minimalist, this dress is pullover style with no zippers or buttons to interrupt its clean lines and flattering, form-fitting shape

We applaud this choice, because how weird would it look if there were a zipper below the keyhole? Super weird, and we can only imagine the nightmare that would be the zipper bunching and curving away from our back like a slithering snake

No thanks!    The outfit options just keep on coming with this Racer Dress. Shoe-wise we might choose a pair of heeled ankle booties, or to keep things delicate, a simple heel in any color

With boots, this dress takes a glorious turn for the edgy, especially when paired with a faux-leather jacket

We would wear it to an indie-rock concert or a classy happy hour for sure. Why not make a happy hour even happier by being the best-dressed person in the room? We just have to remember to slip the jacket off our shoulders to make sure that keyhole gets its chance to stun

With heels, this dress transforms into the fanciest frock we ever did see. It's a forever-fabulous choice for date night or any other special occasion we'll be dressing up for

Don't have any special occasions coming up? Make one! Call a couple of friends, set a dress code and plan a nice dinner out together

Bring a camera and it'll be a night to remember, always.  Want to dress this dress down? Why not? It's great for layering, so throw a button-up plaid top over it and accessorize with unique eyeglasses, with or without prescription lenses

People will be stopping us in the streets to find out every last detail of our outfit!  With such a major sale, this dress may not last long so grab one now! It's not like we need a predetermined occasion to wear it to
