Waching daily May 20 2018

There has been a lot of hype around the new Zhyiun Smooth 4 smartphone gimbal.

And its with good reason, the hardware is amazing.

This is definitely the film makers gimbal.

But I feel that the software still has a lot of growing up to do.

Heres what I like, what I don't like and what I would change on the new Zhyiun Smooth

4.

The Zhyiun Smooth 4 currently retails for $139… thats the same as the new DJI Osmo

Mobile 2.

But I feel each gimbal targets a different segment of the market which I will get into

in the versus video.

If you want to pick this gimbal up and make something much more amazing than me I'll

have links in the description below and if you use the links it really helps out the

channel.

First lets go over what you get with the Smooth 4.

The Smooth 4 comes in a hard styrofoam carrying case thats very similar to what the Osmo Mobile

2 comes included with.

You also get a foldable base adapter that screws into the universal mount found on the

bottom of the gimbal.

And you also get a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging.

The gimbal it self is made mostly out of plastic and weighs in at 750 grams with an iPhone

8 plus installed and 820 grams with the base adopter attached.

This gimbal is definitely on the bigger side compared to other smartphone gimbals out there.

But the Smooth 4 should be compatible with almost every smartphone out there given that

it has a max payload of 210 grams.

For comparison the iPhone 8 plus weighs in at 148 grams, the iPhone Ten weighs in at

174 grams, the pixel 2 XL weighs in at 175 grams and the Galaxy S9 plus weighs in at

189 grams.

Zhyiun also advertises as battery life of 12 hours on the smooth 4 and it charges via

the USB C port on the side.

But the battery life here is very variable because depending on what phone you're using,

how well you have it balanced and how much you're moving will all play a factor in

how much of a battery life you'll actually get.

Unfortunately you can't use the USB C port to charge your own phone…

Instead you have to use the micro USB port found on the tilt axis of the gimbal.

And personally I don't have any micro USB to USB C cables or Micro USB to lighting cables

or any adaptors for that matter.

I feel the Smooth 4 should have came included with a USB-A port instead or at least let

you charge stuff via the USB C port.

Cause right now I think its going to be very hard to charge your phone using the gimbal.

And if you decide too shoot in 4k with your phone you're really going to need to constantly

recharge your phone.

But the smooth 4 does a really good job of keeping your phone on axis no matter how much

you move around.

Not once has the gimbal ruined my shot because of how I was holding the gimbal or cause I

moved in a certain direction.

It also requires a good amount of torque to reposition your shot which I personally really

like.

I also haven't experienced any over heating issues either.

And the gimbal itself stays very quite so your not going to get any squeaking in your

shot.

But do keep in mind...

Unlike the smooth Q, the smooth 4 is not a 360 degree gimbal.

Now if you do decide to invest in a gimbal obviously it's going to smooth out your video

but it's not going to be perfectly smoothed out.

You're still going to get a little undulation, but you can always just smooth that out even

more by adjusting the way you walk and hold the gimbal.

Zhiyuns ZY play app also lets you choose between having electronic image stabilization on or

off.

For the most part I've been using it with EIS turned on but if you use it with EIS turned

off then you're going to get a slightly wider filed of view.

But the biggest feature the smooth 4 has to offer are the manual controls and the zoom

wheel.

And like I said at the beginning of this video, the smooth 4 is the film makers gimbal cause

you can manauly adjust all of your settings using the physical buttons.

Personally one of the things I hated about the Osmo mobile 2 was having to use the touch

screen to adjust my settings and in the process messing up my shot.

With the zoom wheel you can also precisely adjust the zoom and you can also pull focus.

But unfortunately even though there is a slew of physical controls to control your camera

settings there is no joystick to tilt or pan the camera… you have to do it manually.

And personally I was surprised at first cause I assumed there was a joysitck.

And there have been multiple times where I would have liked to have a joy stick.

And I think zhyiun should bring some tilt and pan functionality with a software update

by maybe quickly double pressing the flash button in the center and using the center

dial to precisely adjust your pan movement.

And maybe double pressing the crosshairs so you can use the zoom wheel on the side to

presicely adjust the pan.

I don't know...

There's so much you can still do with the hardware here but I'm still amazed there's

no joystick.

And in order to get the most out of the smooth 4 you're better off using zhyiun's zy play

app.

Or else you're not going to be able to use the physical controls.

For the most part the zy play app does a good job of getting good image quality for your

camera… the image quality is much better than what you would get using the Smooth Q's

app.

But I did notice the image quality wasn't as clear when you zoomed in on something compared

to the iPhones native camera app.

Just like most other gimbals the smooth 4 can be used to capture various panoramas,

but unfortunately I found that it would only work 75 percent of the time and that's me

being generous.

If you're out getting panorama shots and burning daily light the last thing you want to see

after a day of shooting is messed up panoramas.

And finally let talk about the active tracking, its mostly useless.

The tracking feature losses the subject very easily and you cant move the gimbal too fast.

But since this is software I hope zhyiun will address these issues with updates.

But finally lets about lets talk about the handle.

like I said at the beginning of this video… this is a pretty big gimbal.

And in most cases its a two handed gimbal.

But I cant get over how much I hate the handle… its so not ergonomic.

Its really just a rounded off rectangle and the gimbal never rests comfortably in the

hand.

And the plastic it self is also very slippery.

So like I recommended with the Osmo Mobile 2… you better jerry rig a wrist strap to

this guy or else you're going to have a bad time when you inevitably drop it.

So heres the verdict on the Zhiyun Smooth 4… its does what its supposed to do very

well, and thats keeping your phone on axis no matter how much you move around without

almost never snagging or adding unwanted background noise when the motters are working.

The physical control buttons let you quickly and easily adjust your capture settings on

the fly so you can get the best shot.

But I do feel there is still room for improvement and refinement in the ZY play app.

We need better app stability, and better active tracking.

I also think Zhiyun should give us physical pan and tilt controls though a software update.

But if you're a mobile filmmaker the Smooth 4 is still a great tool to have.

African orphan is given a prime spot within the grounds of Windsor Castle for royal wedding

An orphan from Lesotho, Africa, was apparently one of the first guests to greet the royal newlyweds after Prince Harry flew the 18-year-old over for the royal wedding.

Mutsu Potsane met the newly titled Duke of Sussex when he was four years old during the Princes gap-year stay in the southern African nation.

They quickly struck up a close friendship and stayed in touch over the years - with Harry returning to the kingdom in 2016 to continue his charity work for the nation.

Mutsu, whose proper first name is Relebohile, was among one of ten representatives from Harrys charity Sentebale.

He co-founded the charity Sentebale – meaning forget me not – with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 to improve prospects for the thousands of children and young people affected by HIV/Aids in the landlocked African country.

Prince Seeiso, 52, who attended the wedding with his wife, Princess Mabereng, said: The young Harry who first arrived in Lesotho in 2004 is now a grown man getting married.

I've come here with all the wishes of Lesotho, I'm not here on my own behalf I'm here representing the entire nation who are so happy.

A total of 200 representatives from different charities were among the 2,460 members of the public with an invitation to celebrate the wedding inside the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Sentebale chairman Johnny Hornby said 18-year-old Mutsu was among the first group to greet the newlyweds after they left St Georges Chapel following their nuptials, the Daily Express report.

He added: Hes a bit shy now, but hes doing really well. Hes just finishing school.. Sentebale shared a photo of some of its members enjoying the celebrations, tweeting: 'Congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, from everyone at Sentebale.

We were delighted that some of our Lesotho team were able to join in the very special celebrations in Windsor today!'.

Mutsu, who was just a toddler when he first met Harry, was introduced to the royal at the Mantsase Childrens Home for orphans near Mohales Hoek, outside Lesothos capital Maseru.

The newly married Prince went to the home to help children stricken by the HIV and Aids crisis. He even gifted Mutsu with a pair of bright blue wellington boots, which apparently he cherished for many years.

The friends were reunited when Harry returned to Lesotho two years ago for an ITV documentary.

The 33-year-old scooped the then 15-year-old off the ground for a giant hug after the pair first noticed each other and the two chatted about their time apart.

Harry later said: Its great to see that he is so happy. Our tree has survived, its grown up. The fence that we built is still there.

Obviously, I would prefer it in a weird way for him not to have been there, and for us to not know where he was.

Because then we know that hes happy with a family member, but sadly for him thats not the case.

Prince Harry mentioned fatherhood in the documentary and while reflecting on his aid work, he mused: For me I have this love of Africa that will never disappear. and I hope that it carries on with my children as well..

Harry also received praise in the documentary from Sir Elton John, who urged people to go to see the work being done by Sentebale.

He said: If his mother was alive, shed still be doing the work she set out to be doing, and hes carrying it on in the best possible way.

ICFP 2018: Why is comprehensive sex education needed? - Hani (Indonesia) - Duration: 3:28.

My name is Hani, I'm 22, a volunteer and also a staff that works for KISARA IPPA Bali

According to Global Health, Science and Practice in

2016, investing in family planning is a development "best buy" that can accelerate achievement across the

Sustainable Development Growth and

my focus as someone who has economic development as

educational background is to achieve economic growth through the quality of population

The lack of education especially in sexual and reproductive health

leads to risky sexual behavior that caused STI such as

HIV and unplanned pregnancy. The group that has the most HIV victims and unplanned pregnancies are those between the ages

20 - 29. Therefore, education is needed to prevent HIV,

unplanned pregnancies and also other sexual and reproductive health problems. I

joined KISARA around

2016 because I've been interested in the issues they are working on; that is about improving adolescent

participation to engage together in projects that help them to understand more about sexual and

health reproduction problems.

As a volunteer I have involved in projects such as talking about sexual and reproductive

health and rights (SRHR) and family planning issues on radio broadcasts, writing articles, and become a counselor along with KISARA team.

And I taught how to use contraception such as condom and told them how important contraception is.

Because with contraception we can prevent the STI and also unplanned pregnancy

From KISARA, I get to know a program called Dance4life. Dance4life provides young people with knowledge

skills and confidence they need to protect their health and promote safe sexual choices

through Dance4life, I learn how to educate and empower young people in a fun way. I

enjoy volunteering as it gives me excitement and happiness. I

get a sense of the achievement because I can bring out the best in myself by doing

something for other people in needs, and by doing something, I actually gained more than I give. and

also I learned a lot of new experience that I've never had before.

Aside from the new knowledge and experiences I got from being a volunteer and staff at KISARA IPPA Bali

I am currently writing a research about Dance4life KISARA as a program to prevent juvenile delinquency in Denpasar, Bali.

I hope my research could help a lot of people

from adolescent up to the policymakers to pay more attention to

SRHR and family planning issues. The rates of early age marriage in the neighborhood where I live,

Bali, is still high.

This risk is heightened by young people's lack of information about their sexual and reproductive health, and lack of access to

youth-friendly services.

By joining ICFP

2018, I hope I can share and learn more about SRHR and family planning issues with people from around the world.

Together we can create

the solutions on how to deliver the information,

so young people who is still lacking of information would be more educated

What is the greatest obstacle to realizing who you really are? - Duration: 5:40.

I'm sometimes asked, "what is the greatest obstacle to realizing the Self or

realizing who and what we are?" I've answered this question different ways at

different times. I thought I'd try to bring some of it together today. The

question is fundamentally...using the the ocean analogy...

it's a wave consciousness - something that believes it's a wave - and the question is

what is the biggest obstacle to realizing that one is the ocean and not

a wave. And really the greatest obstacle is the belief that "you"...the "me" that is...

that "you" will realize "your" true self... "you" will realize who and what you are at

some point in the future. That is the biggest obstacle...that "you" will realize.

Because, when realization / enlightenment happened for me it was not a "me" that

woke up. It wasn't a "me" that realized that who I really was was not other or

separate than anything else. It was not a "me" that accomplished anything. It

wasn't a "me" that attained anything. That "me" is a fiction. And that's why I have

said that...you know...fundamentally, to a certain degree, all practices...all

spiritual practices...all seeking is a reinforcement of the "me". Because it is

a "me" practicing...doing...to get results...to accomplish for its own personal gain.

And it is a reinforcing structure of the "me"...not a seeing through the "me".

Now this obstacle, you got to remember, is from the wave-

consciousness...if in the analogy - if a wave is saying, "well,

what's the biggest obstacle for me to realize that I'm the ocean." The biggest

obstacle is thinking that it will realize it's the ocean. I'm kind of

repeating myself, but it's important. Now, in the same way I've said that it's our

very attempts to liberate ourselves...it's our practices to liberate ourselves...it's

the act of seeking liberation and trying to be be liberated itself is bondage...

that itself is the bondage. So it is a struggling with thought within thought...

within the mind...trying to to escape something that doesn't exist. It's

kind of like if I entered...if I'm walking by in a wide-open space and someone's

rolling around on the on the ground...kind of twisting and contorting and kind of...

and with their arms to their sides. And they look up and they see me. And

they ask, "what is it I can do that... to get out of this room and get out of

this straight jacket? How do I become free of all this?" They don't believe me when I

say you're not in a room and you're not in a straight jacket.

Because it is that mental belief...it is that mental attachment to a "me" that

struggles. It is basically...this whole thing is in the mind. It really is in the

mind. It is through the mind that we've created the problem.

It kind of reminds me in "Blazing Saddles." There's a scene where...you know...the

two main characters are trying to escape a posse and are running across an open

space prairie. And they're like you know, the posse is catching up...what are we

gonna do? And so one goes, oh, I've got a bright

idea and it cuts away. And it comes back and the posse runs up to a tollbooth that

asked for a dime per person. And they stopped immediately in this open plain.

And they start searching their pockets going, does anybody got enough

dimes for everybody. And this is really the fundamental entrapment. Nothing

stopped them from riding right on through. They could have kept going and

and chasing...you know...the two main characters and eventually caught up. They

didn't need to stop. They thought they needed to stop. And because they thought

they needed to stop, now they needed to think there's got to be a way to get

around this obstacle - but there is no obstacle...it's a wide-open plain. And

that's kind of in essence what this is all about. It's overcoming those

illusions and fictions of the mind. And one of the illusions is that there will

be a "you" that will realize it one day. Thank you much.
