Hello Fantastic Beast Fans!
Yesterday we were treated to a cover reveal for the upcoming screenplay for Crimes of
Grindelwald And I have to say, they have really upped their game!
So many details!
So much to speculate on.
I'm Susan Şipal with Fantastic Secrets Behind Fantastic Beasts to bring you the clues.
Join me and other Fantastic Beasts fans here on the BeastChaser Forum as we uncover the
secrets, discover what's coming first, and play along with Rowling's newest game.
Pottermore revealed the cover asking how many clues we could spot.
But my question is, where to start first?
One of the first things that jumped out at me were the stars that seem to be everywhere!
Could these be hints at the magical zodiac we saw decorating the ceiling of the French
Ministry of Magic that I covered in a prior video?
The last cover had stars, too.
But these on the new cover seem to have more of a pattern.
I haven't yet tried to piece them together into constellations, though this one does
look a bit like the seven sisters to me.
Can you spot any patterns?
At the center of the cover are a lock and possibly its key.
The lock is the same as the one posted earlier, with the NF referring to Nicolas Flamel.
But the key, if that's what it is, looks quite different.
Although Pottermore referred to it as "a piece of jewellery," to me, it looks a bit
like a wand.
In fact, it reminds me a bit of one we saw Brontis Jodorowsky, aka Nicolas Flamel himself,
holding in a photo he posted online.
When fans speculated, me included, that it might be Flamel's wand, Jodorowsky
denied it.
But it does seem odd that he appears to be pointing to the wand pointing to Flamel's
sign, doesn't it?
I've also heard others saying that the "piece of jewellery" looks like a vial that holds
memories, which would also be intriguing.
And the positioning of the lock and key is directly under what must be the Philosopher's
Stone, which, knowing Flamel is in the story, should come as no surprise.
What is surprising, however, is that it seems to be pictured under a Bell Jar.
This type of jar that holds a vacuum is commonly associated with scientific experiments, so
it could be just an allusion to Flamel's alchemy lab, which reports say was shown in
the CinemaCon trailer.
But another possibility intrigues me as well.
We've seen a bell jar in this universe before, in the Time Room of the Department of Mysteries
in The Order of the Phoenix.
It held an egg that turned into a hummingbird and then back into an egg.
Then, when a Death Eater, possibly Rabastan Lestrange, Bellatrix's brother-in-law, fell
into it, his head changed into a baby then back to adult, over and over.
Interesting that we have this connection to the Lestranges as well as time.
In prior videos, we've analyzed numerous other possible time references, and I'm
going into more in an upcoming one.
There's only one human face, shown in a duplicate mirror image.
The woman pictured is from a leaked French Ministry of Magic flyer or pamphlet, which
was first spotted by The Rowling Library.
She is most likely a nod to Marianne, a symbol of the French Republic.
Marianne, in turn, may be a nod to Athena, especially in this helmeted pose.
Curious thing about the golden-helmeted Pallas Athena – she was the muse of Francis Bacon,
an Elizabethan philosopher, statesman, and scientist, who some believe to have been a
Rosicrucian.
There are several possible links between Pallas Athena, Shakespeare, and hidden knowledge
or secret societies, and we've seen lots of secret society links for the upcoming film.
However, this depiction of Marianne is probably just meant to imply the key role of the French
Ministry of Magic.
But if we get more clues hinting at the secrets of Pallas Athena, I'll delve into her more
in another video.
Now, let's talk about all the animals.
The first ones that caught my attention are the cats at the bottom.
Surely these are the Wampus Cats mentioned in the trailer shown at CinemaCon.
In a prior video, I mentioned a report from an attendee who said the cats were not fully
developed yet, but seemed large and menacing.
These look rather cute, but they do hold a central place on the cover, which may indicate
a substantial role.
At the bottom, we have what seem to be the Oni, shown in the trailer here.
This creature intrigues me in a couple of ways, but because I need to do more research,
I'm going to save speculation for a future video.
Now, notice these animals up in the top corners.
The bottom ones seem very much like Thestrals.
Which could just be a hint at Grindelwald's escape.
With these tendrils, the top could be dragons.
But look at the shape when you put the two together.
Doesn't it seem a bit like a seahorse, which we've seen before?
Or perhaps a Hippocampus?
As I analyzed in a prior video, could this point to the character Melusine?
There also seem to be quite a few bird-like images.
We've noted before in prior videos the abundance of wings, and you certainly see quite a few
here.
But there are also serpentine ones as well.
And to me, these all come together in the face of an Asian-style dragon staring straight
at us.
Can you make out the eyes, the snout, its tendrils, and the back wings?
This harkens to the comments David Yates made a long time ago about a new Chinese beast
in the second film.
We've speculated before about either a phoenix or a dragon.
Maybe this is the decisive clue.
But then look here at the Eiffel Tower image at the snout of the beast.
Doesn't it look like the Tower has sprouted wings?
I've seen speculation that it's a highly stylized phoenix spreading its wings or perhaps
a magical battle around the Tower.
What do you think?
There's another part of the Eiffel Tower that has really captured my attention.
Look at this.
Doesn't it look like a bottle?
To be more specific, a genie bottle with the well here, the neck, and the stopper?
Ever since the character Yusuf Kama has been announced, I've been wondering if Rowling
might venture into some Muslim magic and introduce a Jinn.
Could Kama be a Jinn, or have connections with any?
My theory may be pushing it a bit, but there's definitely something going on with this Eiffel
Tower imagery beyond the norm.
I've been working on my own Jinn series for years and am anxious to search out more
clues as to how Rowling may be working hers.
Aside from the animals, there are symbols.
Starting at the top is this skull image most online are calling the Dark Mark.
It definitely looks similar and probably is.
However, I have doubts.
When you examine it closely, the snake-like object is not coming from the mouth, but rather
below the chin, almost like a spinal cord.
And there are some curious marks on the skull that caught my attention.
Has someone been cutting into this person's head?
I'm wondering if they could have been trepanned, boring into the skull to let out evil demons
or spirits.
And if so, was it because they suffered from an Obscurus?
And if so, are they related to Credence?
Perhaps the missing father?
And if that's the case, is that what the snake image hints at, an escaping Obscurus,
like we saw more controlled from Credence in the trailer?
And finally, could this image, even though not a Dark Mark, have led to it?
Is there something in Credence and his Obscurus that inspired Voldemort and his followers
with the Dark Mark later?
Next, look at the layout of symbols.
We have the top Obscurus or Dark Mark, then the Philosopher's Stone in the middle, and
finally the Deathly Hallows at the bottom.
But the Deathly Hallows is a bit different.
The wand is pointing down whereas it usually points up.
Why is that?
Is the wand in distress?
Has it got vying claims on its loyalty as we discussed in a prior video?
Putting the three together, though, it seems to me the cover is saying something.
At the end of Harry Potter, it was Horcruxes versus Deathly Hallows.
Are there going to be three vying powers at play through the rest of Fantastic Beasts?
The power of the Obscurus versus the Philosopher's Stone versus the Deathly Hallows?
Of the three, the skull intrigues me the most.
First, its placement reminds me of the all-seeing Eye of Providence, looking down and watching
those below.
Second, look at this leaked image of some MinaLima graphic artwork for the magical Circus
Arcanus.
Clearly, the skulls are not the same.
But there is enough of a resemblance in the design and placement to make me wonder at
a link.
Could this whole top image represent the circus big top?
Is the cover a subtle hint of a play within a play?
We are the audience entering Jo's big top when we enter the theater.
In fact, with the cover separated top to bottom over a sky of stars, it almost has a feel
of "as above, so below."
"As above, so below" is a key maxim of Hermeticism with links to alchemy.
The last cover was divided up similarly, which could all just be a matter of design, and
I'm reading too much into it.
But I do find it interesting that the skull that I'm linking to the Obscurus is in the
skyward or "as above" position.
Finally, look at the symbol under Rowling's name.
It was on the last cover too.
With that quill and placement, I think it's meant to link directly to Rowling.
I've seen several people calling it a Gordian Knot, but so many that I cannot credit one.
In my original book, I talked about the Gordian Knot and its significance to Ilvermorny as
something that may play a role in the series.
As the Knot symbolizes cutting through a complex problem by thinking differently, it seems
fitting to me that Rowling would take it as a personal emblem.
And that the mighty quill is essentially what is untying the knot.
Overall, besides being absolutely gorgeous, I think this cover reveals or highlights a
couple of new key details.
One, the Philosopher's Stone is going to be critical.
And two, there be dragons!
Also, three, hopefully, I think we may meet up with some Jinn!
What other clues did you catch in this awesome cover?
Is that top symbol a Dark Mark or a possible Obscurial?
