Man suspected in deadly street racing crash had conviction for smuggling marijuana across border - Duration: 5:25.

A man suspected in a deadly street racing crash that killed two young brothers two weeks ago was deported in 2012 after he was caught smuggling 44 packages of marijuana across the U

S. border from Mexico, court records show. Josue Leyva-Gallegos, 30, was headed to Perris through the Otay Mesa Port of Entry with a valid U

S. permanent resident card in May 2012 when he was sent for further inspection by a computer-generated referral, according to a probable cause statement filed in federal court

An X-ray of his car showed anomalies in the gas tank. Authorities requested a drug-sniffing dog, which alerted to the gas cap opening

In the gas tank, a Customs and Border Protection officer found roughly 94 pounds of marijuana

Leyva-Gallegos later told authorities he had been hired to smuggle marijuana into the country for $800

He pleaded guilty two months later to one count of importing marijuana. After his conviction, his legal status was revoked and he was ordered removed by an immigration judge in October 2012, according to Sarah Rodriguez, spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement

He was sent to Mexico the next day. At some point, Rodriguez said, he returned to the U

S. illegally. The deadly crash occurred May 15 after Leyva-Gallegos began street racing with his cousin, Ricardo Zuniga

Zuniga told authorities that he pulled up next to his cousin at an intersection in Perris that evening to tell him to meet up at his home to hang out

But Leyva-Gallegos looked back at him and asked, "You ready?" before counting to three

He knew this meant his cousin wanted to race. Moments later, the pair hit the gas

Each took off at a high rate of speed, authorities said, with Zuniga driving on the wrong side of the road

Soon, Zuniga was facing an oncoming car and was unable to swerve out of the way

His Honda Accord collided head-on with a Nissan Versa carrying three brothers on their way to pick up their sisters from school

The younger two, Dominick and Antonio "Tony" Gonzalez, 6 and 8, were killed. Leyva-Gallegos fled the scene

A week ago, the U.S. Marshals Service found him more than a thousand miles away in Kent, Wash, where he was trying to register a vehicle at a local DMV office

On Thursday, ICE filed a detainer — a request that local authorities detain an individual for an additional 48 hours — with the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle

Leyva-Gallegos is now awaiting extradition to California on two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, charges that carry a sentencing enhancement for fleeing the scene of a crime, according to Riverside County court records

His bail was set at $10 million. Zuniga was charged with two counts of murder, along with one count each of driving without a license and failing to carry proof of insurance, records show

Curious Adelaide: What does the 'OG' stand for in OG Road? By Eugene Boisvert What does the "OG" in OG Road stand for?Four separate readers asked ABC Adelaide this question when we asked what they wanted to know about the city as part of the Curious Adelaide series

"It seems very strange to have a road that is just two letters," one said."I have a friend who lives off of OG Road and I asked them what it stood for and they said they had heard that it was named after two families that were influential and had lots of land

"So what does it stand for?OG Road is named after Osmond Gilles, the first colonial treasurer of South Australian and a major landholder in what is now Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs

Gilles was born in 1788 and arrived on the HMS Buffalo with the first settlers in 1836

Nicknamed "OG", he owned land in the city (Gilles St and Gilles Arcade are named after him), Gilles Plains and Glen Osmond, where his homestead Woodley was located

OG Road was a track that provided a crucial link between his Glen Osmond and Gilles Plains properties

It was the main River Torrens crossing northeast of Adelaide until Lower Portrush Road opened in 1970

Gilles was forced to resign from his position in the treasury in 1839 after falling behind in his bookkeeping

He died in 1866.The OG Hotel, which has the shortest name of any Australian pub, was founded at the corner of North East Rd and what is now OG Road in 1843, however the first mention of OG Road didn't come until 1869 in the South Australian Register

In fact, in an ad in the South Australian Gazette and Mining Journal in 1848, Osmond Gilles himself refers to it as Klemzig Road

It was only in 1936 that Enfield District Council officially named it OG Road, after Osmond Gilles

Some councillors pushed for it to be named Klemzig Ave, but this was rejected by local residents, who wanted to stick with the name they knew it by

What other ideas do people have?The idea that OG stands for "Old Government" seems to have appeared in the 1940s or 1950s, with newspaper ads and articles mentioning the name

A 1949 article in The News said a man who died in a car crash lived on "Old Government road, Klemzig" and a reader wrote into The Advertiser in 1951 to say that OG Road "isn't named after Osmond Gilles, as most people believe it to

He says that OG stands for Old Government".Indeed, in a Reddit threat from 2015, two users believed it to be named "Old Government Road", along the line of the many "Government Roads" that exist in country areas

"I've always been told it was short for 'Old Government' Road, so now I'm questioning whether it's that or the Osmond Gilles thing," jamballdonut wrote

Other suggestions on Facebook included "Old German", because of Klemzig's status as a former German village, and even "Original Gangsta"

City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters historian Denise Schumann said it was a question she was often asked

OG Road was "100 per cent" named after Osmond Gilles, she said."It's because that was the track to his land," Mrs Schumann said

"There's no way you can't link it to Osmond Gilles." OG Hotel bartender Sam Cubitt said the subject came up occasionally

When it did, staff pointed customers to a display about the pub's history, which is not far from the Osmond Gilles sports bar

"But it's Osmond Gilles so I just tell them that," Mr Cubitt said.Bonus fun facts: Klemzig was renamed Gaza in 1917, along with a lot of other SA towns with German names

It reverted to its old moniker in 1935.Nearby Glynburn Road is named after the two suburbs it connects: Glynde and Burnside

And Portrush Road has nothing to do with rushing to the Port. It is named after a town in Ireland

That's a lot of dough for some suds! The maker of Sam Adams beer and several other popular malt beverage brands has agreed to $975,000 in penalties for failing to register their brands with the State Liquor Authority, officials announced Thursday

Authority officials first noticed in 2016 that American Craft Brewery, a subsidiary of brewing giant Boston Beer Company, had only registered one of its products - Twisted Tea Summer Blueberry – for sale in New York State

A subsequent investigation revealed that numerous unregistered products were being sold across the state, including numerous varieties of Angry Orchard, Twisted Tea, and Sam Adams brands

Investigators estimated that more than 1.4 million cases of unregistered malt beverages, with a value of over $24 million, were sold throughout the state in 2017

"Brand label registration is a critical component of our mission, to ensure that the public health, safety, and welfare is protected within the marketplace of alcoholic beverages that are distributed for sale within the State of New York," Authority Counsel Christopher Riano said

"The law is the law, and American Craft Brewery has acknowledged that they were operating outside of it
