Probably the dominant variable that we really didn't know
anything about until we started looking into it was how many
different options there are for what kind of graft you're going
to have. I guess the bottom line is, after looking at everything,
we were so pleased--we had Dr. Albright at Children's in our
mix that we were looking at, because particularly for a young
female who plays soccer, the quad graft had so many benefits.
Just really feel fortunate that Jay was really good at
explaining the difference and how they would play themselves
out, and why it was a good match for our daughter and her age,
and the sport she was playing. So why not take advantage and
avail yourself of the research that shows the best recovery
really works. Absolutely. I can't stress it enough. It's not
about next year's basketball season. It's about life. It's a
very holistic approach, so we didn't have to work really hard
to put a bunch of pieces together. From the start, the
middle and the end, Children's has this process down really
tight. After the surgery, you go back to Children's and they do
X-rays at certain increments. So not only are they doing X-rays
so they can see if everything is coming back together, but he's
also ratcheting around the knee, feeling it to see--and so
reintroduction doesn't come until Albright is sure it's the
right time. And he'll see her regularly? He sees her
regularly. Yes. But what they do not want is to push a child too
quickly and then to see them again. Part of coming back all
the way is not just making sure that the knee that you had
surgery on is functioning properly, but total body is
functionally moving properly and efficiently and the way it's
supposed to. And those are the things that we check to make
sure that you're going back out as safely as possible, giving
you the least amount of risk to re-injure yourself or to injure
your other knee. And the other thing I'll say is that our
minimum requirements for you getting back are more strict
than anywhere else in the country, really. And that may
also be one of the reasons why our re-tear rate, our failure
rate is so much lower than most everybody else. It's the quad
tendon reconstruction and the rehab that we do, the whole team
that we have that I personally think allows us to keep more
athletes on the field and not get re-injured. This is gonna
be--truthfully--the hardest thing you've done. But your
desire to get back in doing the things you want to is going to
be what you need to focus on. And people like Dennis and
myself will be here to egg you on, to urge you on, to encourage
you. I want you back as quickly as we can get you there. Okay?
But that quickly means safely.
