Simple Home Massage Explanation
This video accompanies Alex Wu's book User's Manual for the Human Body. The theories involved are covered in the book and will not be explained in this video.
The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the massage methods introduced in the book.
These massage methods do not require knowledge about the positions of meridian points, and do not require an expertise in massage.
Anyone can learn these massage methods.
A massage that can be done daily must be simple. The entire massage can be done in less than 15 minutes.
It is an ideal massage to do amongst family members.
Massaging the kidney meridian helps improve digestion.
Good digestion is vital to the body's ability to create blood.
Therefore massaging the kidney meridian helps improve blood and qi.
Massaging the pericardium and bladder meridians
helps the body remove meridian waste
Improving blood and qi and removing meridian waste
creates a complete healthcare exercise
In addition, massaging the lung meridian helps ease excess lung energy
Massaging the sanjiao meridian relaxes the neck and shoulders
Massaging the weizhong meridian point helps with back pain
Everyday Simple Massage: Part 1 Combing
Historically, combing has been an important part of TCM healthcare
At the top of the head, at the center line, is the Du meridian
and the bladder meridian beside the center line
The kidney meridian is on the sides of the head
for a total of 5 meridians
Due to your hair being in the way, it is difficult to massage your head with your hands
Combing in the direction of the meridians is more effective
Choosing the right comb or brush is very important
It must not be too soft or too hard
It must press your scalp, but the ends of the comb or brush cannot be too sharp
or it may harm your scalp
Comb in the direction of these meridians everyday
The Du meridian and the bladder meridians on each side
should be combed from your front hairline to the back
all the way to hairline at the back of the neck
You can also split the combing into two parts: top of the head and back of the head
Each meridian should be combed 100 repetitions a day
The kidney meridian on the side of the head
should be combed from front to back, downwards
for 100 repetitions a day, each side
While combing, you can use some lubricating oils
or other healthcare hair products that help lubricate the hair or help with hair growth.
These will improve the effectiveness of the combing exercise.
It is recommended to use products that contain mostly organic ingredients
and not ones that use mostly synthetic ingredients
so that these synthetic ingredients do not contaminate your scalp
The bladder meridian starts at the inner side of the eyes, the Ching Ming meridian points
You can use a Gua Sha board for the area from your eyes through your forehead
from bottom to top

Everyday Simple Massage Part 2 Back Massage
Because you cannot massage the bladder meridian on your own back
it is recommended to do this massage with your family members
The most important part of the bladder meridian is on the back
Other than the Du meridian in the middle, each side of the back has 2 bladder meridians
that cover most of the back
Just like how the main drainage channels in a city are the biggest
the body's meridian wastes gather on the back, on the largest meridian pathway of the body
The inner bladder meridian on each side
mainly consists of meridian points that link the other zangfu meridians to the bladder meridian
From the concept of clearing the main drainage channels
the focus of the massage should be on the inner bladder meridian
Before you start the massage
you can first use your fingers to slide down the inner bladder meridian on the back from top to bottom
If you feel any pimples or lumps on the skin
a thick and hard layer
These usually appear on one side of the back
Just compare the differences on the two sides of the back
and you can easily locate the problem
You can look up a meridian chart
and look for the meridian point where the lump is located
These lumps most often appear at the Liver shu meridian point
which signals that the liver meridian is clogged
If it is near the heart shu meridian point
the heart meridian may be clogged
When massaging, massage the parts with lumps a bit more
but these lumps take a while to go away
You need to consistently massage, everyday, for a few weeks to months
for these lumps to gradually get smaller, then disappear altogether
and must be accompanied by proper lifestyle changes
and better anger management, for maximum effectiveness
Before massaging, first prepare a bottle of massaging oil
Massaging oils come in two categories
The first type has only lubricating effects, such as Vaseline
The other is Chinese medicine massage oils, with medicinal effects
When massaging the back, the recipient lies chest first on the bed
The masseur stands on the end above the head
Because the average home does not have a massage bed
a normal bed can also be used
The back massage starts from the neck
The recipient puts their head over the edge of the bed
The masseur first applies massage oil to the neck, to prevent skin burn
The masseur uses both fists
rolls the wrists from inside to outside
Massage the neck area 30 times
If the recipient's neck is very tight
there may be redness after the massage
This massage not only unclogs the neck area's bladder meridian
it can also unclog the neck area's sanjiao and large intestine meridians
The recipient moves down the bed

Start massaging the back
First apply massage oil to the entire back

First massage the Du meridian on the spine
Use the left or right fist
Use the joints in your fingers to massage the back
From the Da Zhui point just below the neck
massage to the bottom of the spine at the tailbone
Repeat this action 30 times
If redness appears, it means that the meridian is clogged
This redness from the massage should naturally disappear within a few minutes
When you first start massaging
for those who have not had a massage like this done before
may feel a bit of pain
Next, the masseur uses both fists
Like the technique uses to massage the back of the neck
massage the bladder meridians on each side
Push all the way to the bladder shu meridian point
which is just above the hip bone
Do this action 30 times
This entire back massage can be done in less than 10 minutes
This back massage can effectively unclog the bladder meridian
returning the body's meridian waste pathways to their original unclogged state
and increasing the body's overall functionality
It is not only ideal for slowing down the effects of aging
it is also another way to combat chronic illnesses
Daily Simple Massage Part 3: Simple Pericardium Meridian Massage
Before the massage, first apply massage oil to the pericardium meridians on both arms
Focus the massage on the pericardium meridians
The pericardium meridians are on the middle of the palm side of the arms
Start from the upper arm's Tian Chuan meridian point
use your thumb to press the Tian Chuan meridian point
and slide along the pericardium meridian downwards towards the middle finger
until you slide off from the middle finger
Do this massage 10 to 20 times a day
If the skin shows redness, this means that the pericardium meridian is clogged
If there is no redness, then the pericardium meridian is not clogged
This type of redness will fade quite quickly
This kind of massage method improves various heart discomforts
such as chest tightness, palpitation, and overly fast heartbeat.
Everyday Simple Massage Part 4: Other meridian massages
Other than combing, back massage, and pericardium meridian massage
depending on your body's condition, you may use additional massages
When you are doing these massages
it is best to also apply massage oil
After doing the pericardium meridian massage
you can massage the lung meridian on the forearm
You clench your fist and use the joints in your fingers
to massage below the elbow, above the wrist
from the elbow down to the wrist, 20 times
This massage is effective for those with lungs deficit and those with skin conditions
For those people, it is best to do this every day
Doing this massage while you have a cold will also be effective
Using the same method as the lung meridian massage
massage the kidney meridian on both legs
from top to bottom 20 times to unclog the kidney meridian
You can also strike the kidney meridian
for 200 strikes on each leg
Using the same method as the lungs meridian massage
massage the center of the upper arm
This is the sanjiao meridian massage, you should do 20 times
This massage soothes tightness in the neck and shoulder region
Next is the Wei Zhong meridian point
Wei Zhong meridian point is used to deal with lower back pain
From experience, middle-aged people will have tightness
on one side's Wei Zhong meridian point
and will feel pain from lightly pressing on the point
If you massage this point everyday
it can reduce lower back discomfort
This technique has been effective
for a lot of people who do this routinely for a period of time
Use the first two joints of your index finger, curl your finger
Use the second joint to press the Wei Zhong meridian point at the back of the knee
After pressing down on the meridian point, slowly rub around
Rub each side 20 times
