What can young people do to struggle with

gender-based violence during the mobility programs?

Gender inequality is a form of social inequality

that we encounter in every area of social life.

Accommodation, socializing, accessing health services,

accessing appropriate mechanisms in case of emergency

have a critical importance for young people's survival

while taking part in a mobility programme.

Throughout the process of obtaining those services

especially young women and LGBTI+

need to struggle with series of discriminative action,

moreover, they may be subjected to sexual harassment and assault

in some steps because of their gender identity

and/or sexual orientation.

So what can young people do to struggle

with gender based violence and discrimination during the mobility programs?

to aware of gender-based discrimination

One of most important step is to able to recognize

The discriminative actions or to understand what

would constitute sexist behaviour.

Limited notion of discrimination, for example, in the work place,

can be cause to normalize violence against women.

For example many women could spot

a sexist action like catcalling

but they did not seem to be able to recognize subtle sexism

like "mansplaining", and "slut shaming".

To aware of gender-based discrimination and

sexism on the basis of sexual orientation.

Discrimination can be also on the basis of sexual orientation.

homophobia is a problem everywhere and there is possibility of

encountering hostile behaviours in the hosting organisation or the universities.

Young people can feel uncomfortable

to express their sexual orientation openly

until they could trust the people

they met during their mobility period.

To explore the rights of the foreigners

Do you know your rights in the hosting country?

Also if you do not know about the regulations of the hosting country regarding non-citizens

or you have limited knowledge of

how to proceed in case of an emergency
