Waching daily Jan 29 2019

It has come to my attention that there is purportedly an overpowered, unbalanced, straight

up HORRIBLE spell in D&D 5th edition that is ruining the game.

In fact, recently I've received many emails expressing deep concern and great dismay.

So, today we're going to put this vicious rumor to rest and set the record straight.

Because there are like concerned citizens out there.

Hey, Luke Hart here.

Good to see you again, just like every Tuesday!

And just in case you're new to my channel, I've been a dungeon master since high school,

and I create weekly D&D videos with information and resources to help dungeon masters run

awesome games.

Today in the Lair, we're going to be talking about a spell that some believe may be ruining

the game.

Now that's pretty strong language – ruining – so this must be really serious stuff we're

talking about here.

I can imagine players are burning their PHBs and dungeons masters are melting down their

minis.

I mean, this is no joke.

This could be the end times for D&D.

So, let's see if we can figure this out, eh?

Shoot, I mean, I've been playing 5th edition for YEARS now, and the game hasn't been

ruined yet for all my groups.

Which means we're either not using this particular spell -- thank God -- or it's insidiously deceptive.

It's like a sleeper cell, just lying in wait for the right moment, and then

BAM!

That's it folks, pack it up, D&D is over.

It's time to go play Dungeon World or Call of Cthulhu.

Unless, of course, it's just a bunch of bull crap, and the spell is NOT actually ruining

the game.

And just in case you're wondering, I do actually plan to tell you at some point the

name of this spell that may or may not be ruining D&D 5th edition.

I just wanted to tease it out for a while to get you all worked up and foaming at the

mouth.

Okay, you ready?

[Luke fuming and very angry.]

[whispering to camera] It's Healing Word.

Yeah, that's right, Healing Word.

Well la-de-friggin-da, who cares?

Egg-zactly!

Who cares.

I mean, I could think of several spells off hand that are really powerful in the game

and can "ruin" encounters.

We got banishment, animate objects, wall of force, hypnotic pattern -- all of those spells used in the right situation are incredibly powerful.

And the list goes on and on and on.

But no where on that list is Healing Word.

Like nowhere.

I mean, Healing Word gets picked last at recess for sure.

Okay, now besides mocking this, I'm sure you all expect me to give you some reasons.

So, yeah, let's go through some actual reasons here before someone freaks out on me.

Oh, and before we do that, quick reminder to stay tuned to the end of the video for

a special DM Bonus Tip!

Now, a long time ago in D&D, we used to have dedicated healers.

These dudes basically spent every battle all the battle long rushing from one PC to another,

simply healing them.

I mean, that's all they did. All of their spell slots, all of their resources were reserved to heal people.

That was their job.

[weird voice] Hey buddy, you're the healer.

Sorry, but uh, while the rest of us play D&D you're going to babysit our hit points.

Try to keep up, okay?

And along comes Healing Word and puts an end to that.

No longer does the cleric have to be nothing but a heal-bot.

Like the cleric can actually do OTHER STUFF.

Clerics can finally play the game!!!

Since Healing Word is a ranged spell, they don't have to run around the battle field

healing everyone.

They can just stand wherever and when needed toss some healing around.

Crap, this sounds like clerics just got liberated from a life of slavery.

Does this sound like a spell that's ruining the game?

[weird voice] Oh, but Luke, Healing Word is just a bonus action, so it throws action economy

off.

Look, you cast Healing Word as a bonus action, and then for your action you can only cast

a cantrip. So there is a sort of limiting factor there.

You got friggin wizards casting Mass Suggestion and paladins giving everyone +5 to saving

throws and resistance to all spell damage…

And you're worried about Healing Word plus a cantrip?

[mocking voice] Come on, really?

Really?

And don't even get me started on paladins.

Argggg [angry face and clenching fists] [weird voice] But wait, Luke, Healing Word

is like a get out of jail card.

It's easy, cheap, at range healing.

Dude, it heals 1d4 damage.

1d4 – plus your spell casting modifier I WISH my players were healing 1d4 damage

while my monsters are dealing much more than that.

Guess who's gonna win that battle!

Unfortunately, my players are far too smart to do that.

Instead, they save Healing Word for emergencies when an ally drops to 0 hit points and needs

to get back up.

Is that a bad thing?

I mean, how hard do we need to make it?

If they're dropping to 0 hit points, things are already going badly for the group.

Do we really need to make them do some sort of magic dance and special handshake to heal

their fallen comrade?

[Hey, I'm a pretty good dancer, right?]

Alright, I don't know if I'm making super logical arguments here or just abusing my

ability to make videos.

However, I can say that EXPERIENTALLY healing word has yet to ruin any of my games.

And I run quite a few D&D games…

Lots of healing word getting thrown around, and uh, yeah we're good, we're good here.

But hey, you all are pretty smart, so why don't you let me know some more reasons that healing word is NOT ruining the game.

An insider secret here - I did pretty well in charisma class, but not so well in logic.

And if you think Healing Word is ruining the game, let me know as well.

I swear, I will not do a part 2 mocking you.

By the way, Taylor over at the Dungeon Master's Workshop has some really good thoughts about

this topic, too.

[whispering] I may or may not have stolen some of his ideas…

I'll toss a link below to his article if you're interesting in checking it out.

Okay, now before we move on to the DM bonus tip, [odd voice] a word from our sponsors!

Wait!

Since when do I have sponsors?!?

If you're looking for an online RPG map-making tool, I highly recommend that you check out

DungeonFog.

Now, I'm a pretty critical guy – just in case you couldn't tell by this video

– but DungeonFog is pretty sweet and easy to use.

I'll throw a link down below to it, and if you use the promo code THEDMLAIR you can

save 10%.

Alright!

And now it's time for the DM bonus tip!

Remember, whatever your players can do, YOU CAN DO TOO!

Let's just say for the sake of argument that healing word IS overpowered.

Then holy crap, even the odds already.

Have your bad guys start casting it!

If the spell's that good, then lots and lots of caster in the world are going to learn

that spell.

That's the way things work!

By the way, if you're interested in joining a community of dungeon masters who help each

other out, check out my Discord server.

Not only are there other DMs there, both new and veteran, but it's where I hang out the

most, answering questions and helping folks out.

click over here to watch another fine video.

And until next time…

Let's play D&D!

Who Is Michael Corleone Blanco's Girlfriend Marie? | Heavy.com

In VH1's docu-series Cartel Crew, cameras record the lives of eight sons and daughters of drug cartel members.

Viewers get to witness how these descendants of former drug lords deal with their legacy when their parents have serious connections in the cartel.

The show, set in Miami, follows its cast as they try to change their lives and steer away from the drug life.

This crew's leader is Michael Corleone Blanco, the youngest son of the "Cocaine Godmother" Griselda Blanco.

He left the drug life after 33 years following his mother's assassination, but there's a lot more to Blanco than meets the eye.

Blanco has a girlfriend who's also featured on the show and her name is Marie Ramirez De Arellano.

Ramirez De Arellano led her own life of crime before she and Blanco decided to quit the drug scene and jump-start their lives in brand new directions.

     .

Since her father generally kept quiet about his business dealings (and thanks to her relationship with Blanco), she lost touch with many of her own family members.

Preview clips from Cartel Crew foreshadow what's to come, hinting that Ramirez De Arellano's past may come back to bite her episodes down the road.

Now that she's entered the world of reality TV, it's a safe bet to guess that some of her family's dirty laundry is about to be aired out.

In a clip from the show, Ramirez De Arrellano told the camera, "Being with Michael hasn't been easy.

Ever since I told my father who I was with, my family completely cut me off.

They don't understand why I would be with Griselda Blanco's son, and now this little family that Michael and I have built is all I have left.

If Michael decides to leave me one day or if God forbid he goes back to jail, what do I have? Nothing.".

Ramirez De Arellano remains committed to her relationship with Blanco and helps him run his business, Pure Blanco.

("I had a dream and it took God to make it so," Blanco told TMZ.) The brand offers men's and women's clothing along with accessories like hats, totes, and drinkware, all celebrating the life and legacy of his mother Giselda.

After some consideration, Ramirez De Arellano decided to also get on board with the VH1 show and open up about her life.

"I've always been very private with my life because that's how I was taught.

So when this presented itself, yea, I had some thoughts but then it was like why not? Let me be a part of this and let me expose my life as to how I grew up because there are people like me out there," she said.

"It took a lot of emotion, a lot of dissecting our past, regression.

It kinda hit us emotionally and in different ways.

I learned more about myself throughout this project.

It opened a lot of wounds for me, and it actually motivated me to tell my story and move on from my past.".

Cartel Crew airs Monday nights on VH1 at 9 p.

SeaWorld whale Kayla, 30, dies . cause is a mystery Orlando Sentinel - Duration: 4:39.

SeaWorld whale Kayla, 30, dies . cause is a mystery Orlando Sentinel

A 30 year old whale at SeaWorld died Monday after becoming ill over the weekend, the theme park said.

It could take several weeks before SeaWorld finds out Kaylas cause of death.

SeaWorld is monitoring the five other orcas that live in the Orlando park.

It is possible the other orcas could be affected socially by her passing, and the orca behaviorists will be monitoring the other whales closely, SeaWorld said in a release. We dont, however, anticipate any physical health issues amongst the other orcas.

Kayla had been otherwise healthy, SeaWorld said, until the first indication something was wrong was Saturday afternoon when Kayla showed signs of discomfort.

Her veterinarians immediately began treatment based on a physical examination. Unfortunately, her condition worsened on Sunday. Although animal care specialists and veterinarians devoted around the clock attention to Kayla, she did not survive, the release said.

Kayla died with an animal care specialist who monitors the animals overnight at her side around 12:15 a.m.

The entire SeaWorld family is deeply saddened by the loss, the theme park said. While today is a difficult day for all of us at SeaWorld, Kayla inspired generations of guests and employees to care and learn more about this amazing species.

A SeaWorld spokeswoman could not immediately provide more details about Kaylas history at the park.

In September, Kayla was part of the parks Killer Whale Up Close Tour to teach visitors about the animals.

Kayla was the second oldest captive born orca ever, said Dr. Naomi Rose, a marine mammal scientist at the Animal Welfare Institute.

For an orca, 30 is prime of life, said Rose, who works for the animal advocacy group that has been critical of SeaWorld in the past.

Thats like literally being a 30 year old woman. Dying at 30 is not normal, Rose said, pointing out orcas in the wild have been known to live up to 80 or 90 years.

The average age for killer whales in the wild is 50 years after they survive the first six months of their lives when they are most vulnerable, she said.

The company struggled in past years after the Blackfish documentary, which told the story of a trainers death and portrayed whale captivity in a negative light.

Attendance dropped and the company struggled financially. It fell further behind Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, which are expanding heavily and adding new attractions.

But SeaWorld has taken steps to move past the orcas, once its iconic image.

Former CEO Joel Manby in 2016.

SeaWorld Orlandos theatrical orca shows were scheduled to end in 2019, Manby had said at the time.

The company is moving to more educational shows but did not provide an update on the timeline Monday.

We are not making any adjustment to this approach, SeaWorld said in the release.

The park also puts more emphasis on its rides and attractions to give visitors more things to do beyond seeing the animals. Infinity Falls, a rapids raft ride, opened in late 2018 and the construction is well under way for a children friendly Sesame Street land that opens this spring.

For much of 2018, the companys finances and attendance were improving. SeaWorld Entertainment, an Orlando based company that operates 12 parks across the country, has not said when it will release its next quarterly earnings for the fourth quarter.

Is Arsene Wenger's £17.1million pay off to blame for Unai Emery's Arsenal transfer woe? - Duration: 2:42.

After over 20 years at Arsenal, Wenger made the shock announcement in April that he would leave the club despite having a year left on his contract

The decision came as the Gunners endured their worst league campaign under the Frenchman

And he was eventually replaced by Unai Emery in May. But has the decision to get rid of Wenger cost his successors? According to The Times, Arsenal paid Wenger in full for the last year of his contract and also paid off his staff

And the report says costs at the Emirates have risen 12 per cent to £223.3 million in the last year

After a tough start to the season, Arsenal went on a 22-match unbeaten run before being beaten 3-2 by Southampton in December

Since, Arsenal's results have been mixed and Emery's hopes of strengthening his squad have been severely hampered

Heavy spending in the last 18 months, poor player sales and Mesut Ozil's £350,000-a-week contract have left Emery with little money to spend in the transfer window

This month, Arsenal are only targeting loan deals and been linked with the likes of Denis Suarez and Ivan Perisic

On Monday, Emery revealed he had been told by Arsenal that it was tough to sign players in January

But he confirmed there would be investment in the summer. "When we have the possibility to buy different players with big quality to help us with their performance, we can do that," Emery said

"At the moment though the club is telling me this is not a good moment to buy new players

"But the club say to me in the summer it is going to be different. And we are going to have chances to take and spend money to buy players

"I know because I've spoken with the club, now the transfer market is difficult but we can take different chances in the summer

"
