Today I'm talking about three common ways that fear is probably
showing up in your life without you realizing.
Hi, it's Stacey Berger here with Mastering Your Mindset
I am passionate about you living a life you love.
Fear is going to be a player as long as we're growing.
It's going to have a role in our lives.
And one of the things I teach inside of my coaching programs,
the idea of befriending your fear.
It's not trying to get rid of fear, trying to make it go away,
but how to make friends with it.
One of the things with fear is that it can be really tricky.
it doesn't always show up and say, "I'm here to kill your dreams"
"I'm here to make sure you're not going to be happy."
It's more subtle than that. Sometimes what happens
is fear shows up and it disguises itself as practicality.
So today I want to share with you three ways that fear can show up
in your life and really be disguised. So the first way
that fear shows up is through delay.
And delay, it'll say to us, yes that's a really good idea, that's a great goal,
you should really do that, but let's get started on Monday, after the weekend.
Or it's a really busy time of the year, so next month let's get going.
You know, in January, is a great time. And, it delays us.
And so, we say "Yeah, I'll get started on Monday, or tomorrow"
or even it'll say, "Yeah we'll do that in 15 minutes."
"In 15 minutes, we'll make that phone call."
And meanwhile, we get distracted, we do something else, we don't go back to it.
So we want to be really aware of delay.
And one of the ways to really prevent that delay is to take an action.
When you have an idea, when you have a thought, it's grounding that energy
and taking a small step in that moment, and that will really help to overcome that delay.
The second way fear shows up and disguises itself as practicality
is through distraction, and this is a really popular one. You know, the shiny object syndrome.
Where, again, we have an idea, we have a project, we move forward with it,
and we get distracted with other things. Maybe it's with the kids,
maybe it's with the laundry, with social media, it's sometimes with tasks
that are actually quite important that are moving you forward in other areas,
but they're not the activities that are really going to help you move towards your vision.
So we get distracted by other things, often times when you let other people's agendas and ideas
and calendars distract us, and that prevents us from really moving forward.
So we want to notice when we just got distracted.
Maybe we say, I'm going to send out that email, I'm going to make those phone calls,
I'm going to go work out, I'm going to do that thing,
and we realize that we got busy doing other things.
And it's all about bringing your attention back and recommitting.
And once again, just like with the delay,
it's "what's an action I CAN take in this moment?" and that will start to build a momentum.
So we have delay, distraction, and the third one is dissuasion.
Dissuasion is that little voice in our heads, it's usually a pretty critical voice.
It says things like, you don't have the experience. Who do you think you are?
You should just be grateful for what you have. What will people think?
What if you fail? What if you embarrass yourself?
And, that little voice, if we're not careful,
will really prevent us from moving towards our dreams and our vision.
So really really important to be aware of that voice, aware of the conversation that you're
having in your head. And when you notice that it's trying to dissuade
you, trying to talk you out of moving forward,
you want to be firm with that voice. You want to awknowledge it, but instead of
giving your attention to the voice, give your attention to your goals.
Give your attention to your vision. And once again, take a step in that moment to really move you forward.
When we make a decision for a vision, when we make a decision for a goal,
our status quo, our comfort zone is going to rise up.
and that's when fear really shows up, when we're about to grow.
Fear is not going to go away. And again, often times it will disguise
itself as practicality - it will delay us, it will distract us, it will dissuade us.
And so really, really important to be able to notice when those things are happening,
refocus on your vision, and take a step.
So what's your biggest distraction? Comment below,
Share what those distractions are, you're not alone!
And let's really support each other and build that community. And once you realize
what that distraction is, what's an action step you can take today
in service of your vision. Make sure you're serving your vision every day
with action. And if this serves you, make sure you like the video, share it with a friend,
and here is to your success.
