Hey everybody, I'm going to do my video on mitosis.

Hello everybody! My name is Raffi, and I'm going to explain to you what mitosis is, how it works, and why it happens in the first place.

Mitosis is very simple in itself, it is cell multiplication in its essence. Our textbook defines it as the process of cell division that takes place in somatic cells. One cell becomes two cells that are all exactly the same.

Now, let's break it down into simpler terms, and eventually steps.

To understand mitosis, we need to know what cells are. Luckily, cells are not difficult to understand. They are very much like our bodies, in that they also have "organs."

Cells are made up of organelles, which are things that have special functions in the cell. They are similar in function to our organs as well in the body.

For example, we can say that the nucleus represents the brain, and the rest of the organelles represent the organs in our bodies that work in conjunction with each other.

Now, somatic cells are simply the cells that make up our body. For instance, our hair, organs, bones, and whatever we have.

Our fantastic president is also made up of somatic cells. Look at his hair, he must have fantastic somatic cells; and look at his hands, perhaps he is lacking in somatic cells!

And, since cells compose all living organisms, even lizards have somatic cells!

Ok, that was a joke, and it is okay if you don't understand.

Now, why do cells divide at all?

And if you are made up of cells, will you literally split into two, or more?

Of course not, you obviously wouldn't split into two or more. Otherwise, you'd be all over the world by now!

Instead, you will become more whole, literally. Humans on average are composed of trillions of cells.

I bet you feel better about yourself now.

Putting jokes aside, cells divide in order to create new cells, which in turn makes us our whole selves today.

This is what mitosis is, and this is it's purpose.

Let's go over how Mitosis works, step by s-

Sorry, before we go on, I need to educate you on a few more items.

In the beginning of mitosis, we begin with forty-six single chromatid chromosomes, or twenty-three pairs of chromosomes.

Chromosomes are tightly coiled strands of DNA within cells' nuclei. Every cell comes with chromosomes.

Chromatids are the single chromosome fibers that duplicate and do most of the action in mitosis, as I will show you shortly.

Our long wait is over, and now I can show you the steps of mitosis!

The first step consists of a nucleus containing chromosomes, which begin replicating. We now have a crowded cell.

Now is the part of figuring out how to make space accordingly. All of the chromosomes line up in single-file order so that they can decide how to go about this.

After some discussing, they figure out how to resolve their space issue.

They, quite literally, split the cell in half!

They go their own ways to make new cells.

Now we have two cell neighbors who are now happier than ever!

I think it's good that they figured out how to solve their issue.

And that is all there is to mitosis! A very simple subject, and a brilliant process indeed. Thank you for watching, and have a good day!
