When I say the words 'easter egg',
What is the first thing that pops into your mind?
Chocolate, chocolate!
If it's chocolate well you're not wrong,
but what we are actually talking about today is video games.
I'm not really like, proud of like, Scott's actions lately,
I don't want him to be in my video game.
An easter egg, in a game, piece of software or movie,
Refers to a hidden or unexpected feature included as a bit of a joke or a bonus.
For example, if you have ever found a hidden section in your favourite DVD or Blu-ray, well,
Congratulations, you have found yourself an easter egg.
4 for you Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco.
The very first easter egg was featured in the Atari game adventure,
By its creator Warren Robinett.
As a cheeky up yours to his superiors.
Robinett was told he wasn't allowed to make adventure,
The Idea just wasn't good enough.
But he went ahead a built it in secret anyway.
His work was so well received that he was given the green light to continue,
and Robinett wanted to commemorate this achievement by adding his signature to the game.
This is my one, "Dictation". That's my official name.
But again, he was told no.
Understandably peeved by this,
Old mate went ahead and did it anyway, sneakily adding his name to a hidden room in the game.
When Atari was made aware of the hidden room, which was after Robbinett left the company,
Instead of spending the money to remove the message,
Give me your fucking money!
They leaned into the idea of including hidden messages in games moving forward.
Calling them 'easter eggs' for gamers to find.
So whether you find a funny easter egg,
one that is a little bit creepy,
or something down right strange,
"Free Sh a Voca Do".
Just know they are in virtually every video game you play.
Happy hunting!
