REVEALED: The Queen's SECRET tool for when she gets tired on Royal engagements - Duration: 2:42.

They students gave her a fake hand - a stuffed glove on a wooden lever - so she can carry on waving if her arm gets tired

Whilst it was given as a joke several years ago, she was apparently "thrilled" and took it back to the UK with her

It is not known whether the Queen ever used the hand in public. In a book about the Queen, Princess Anne recalled the time the students presented their contraption

She said: "They gave her a stuffed glove on a wooden lever so you could tweak the end of the lever and this hand went to and fro

"I think they thought it was cheeky, but Her Majesty was thrilled." Author Robert Hardman said: "The Queen was rather taken with it and I think it ended up at Balmoral

"I don't think she ever used it in public, but I hear it became a much-loved family joke

" The Queen's wave has become iconic part of her image and she has spent much of her 66 years on the throne waving at crowds

Her Royal Yacht Britannia even had a group of people hired to wave from the deck

This is because whilst the boat was sailing alone, people would gather on the banks and wave and the crew were too busy to wave back

They decided that they required a "waving party" so that essential crew members were not distracted, as the waving could be tiring

Albert "Dixie" Dean, one of the longest-serving yachtsman on the Britannia, said: "It was exhausting to wave all the time, so we had a party whose job was just to wave

" The revelation emerged in the new biography Queen of the World which has come out around the same time as a documentary of the same name

There have been a number of other fantastical stories, such as why Princess Anne never shakes hands, the special sheets the royals get abroad and how Prince Charles got into trouble aboard a ship as a child

Germany beats Turkey for right to host Euro 2024 - Duration: 3:22.

Germany beats Turkey for right to host Euro 2024

Germany beats Turkey for right to host Euro 2024.

Germany on Thursday won the race to host the 2024 European Championship as Uefa backed a bid seen as safer than the rival Turkish proposal.

Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin announced the winner following a campaign that saw politics and concerns over human rights in Turkey play a central role.

"I'd like to thank the Uefa Executive for their incredible confidence and I feel the responsibility -- we will do our utmost to live up to expectations," said German Football Association (DFB) president Reinhard Grindel after the announcement.

"We want to put on a huge football festival and show the world how hospitable we are," said ex-Germany captain Philipp Lahm, who will head the organising committee.

Uefa considered that the German bid already had everything in place to host a successful event -- from stadiums to infrastructure and hotels.

European football's governing body has also said it wants to make as much money as possible from the 2024 tournament and Germany was considered the better financial bet.

The win also offers a boost to German football after a disastrous 2018 World Cup, when the country failed to qualify for the last 16 -- after winning the tournament in 2014.

German foreign minister Heiko Maas said the 2024 tournament "will be an opportunity to show what we stand for in Germany: openness to the world and tolerance, freedom and respect.

"Together, we have to make the European Championship a tournament for all Europeans," he added in a statement.

Turkey meanwhile had been desperate to host its first ever major sporting event but its bid was weakened by concerns over its faltering economy, lacking transport network and, perhaps most importantly, human rights.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan loomed large over the campaign and Thursday's defeat may be seen in part as a personal rebuke.

His government's unprecedented crackdown, including thousands of arrests, following a failed 2016 coup has raised worldwide concern.

That unease was shared by Uefa, which noted in its evaluation report that the Turkish bid's "lack of action plan in the area of human rights is a matter of concern.".

North Korea should use Yeongbyeon nuclear complex for civilian use: Hecker - Duration: 2:10.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un,... at last week's inter-Korean summit in Pyeongyang,...

announced some concrete denuclearization measures, including a conditional shutdown of the regime's

main nuclear complex.

But a renowned nuclear scientist, who is very familiar with the North's nuclear programs,...

has some different views on what to do with the complex.

Our Park Hee-jun reports.

Doctor Siegfried Hecker, an American nuclear scientist,... says North Korea's conditional

shutdown of its Yeongbyeon Nuclear Complex would be a very positive sign that demonstrates

its willingness to denuclearize.

Hecker made the remarks on Thursday during a special lecture hosted by the Yonsei Institute

for North Korean Studies.

He's visited the complex four times.

And from what he's seen first-hand,... it's functional with some relatively new facilities,

which makes it quite a big concession.

"If North Korea actually follows through with shutting down,... and they said dismantle…

that's a very big deal.

That would be a huge step of showing that North Korea is actually serious about rolling

back its nuclear program."

But he has doubts on whether North Korea will ever give it up.

Hecker notes how the complex was an enormous investment for the regime,... both in terms

of money and pride.

Instead, he suggests allowing the North to maintain it partially,... and convert it from

military use to civilian purposes and space programs.

"In my opinion, the risk of letting them keep some of the civilian nuclear facility is worth

the potential benefit by working jointly with them in those facilities.

And it would be the best chance in eventual verification."

According to Hecker's ten-year framework,... that needs to be achieved through a long process

of negotiations that encourages North Korea to make such concrete steps.

Under the phased approach,... North Korea will be convinced to demilitarize its Yeongbyeon

complex.

And ultimately,... Hecker says that will turn nuclear weapons from a "treasured sword" to

an "unnecessary burden" that North Korea can let go.

Original computer Apple-1 invented by Steve Jobs auctioned for US$ 375 thousand - Duration: 0:39.

An original "Apple-1" computer designed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in the 1970s

was sold at auction for 375 thousand U.S. dollars.

According to IT media outlet CNet on Thursday, the model was traded at over 562 times the

original price it sold for in the mid-1970s.

The rare computer was restored to working condition before the auction.

Only 200 units of the computer were ever produced, and currently less than 70 of the original

Apple computers remain.

One such model was sold for 750 thousand dollars in a previous auction.

Five players Bafana coach Baxter should consider for his Seychelles squad - Duration: 6:11.

Five players Bafana coach Baxter should consider for his Seychelles squad

Five players Bafana coach Baxter should consider for his Seychelles squad.

Bafana Bafana cannot afford further more slip-ups when they face Seychelles in two 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers next month.

Ordinarily the islanders would be – and they still should be – an easy three points.

However Bafana have had a poor run under Stuart Baxter in competitive qualifiers in the past year‚ where they have won once in six matches – 3-1 against Burkina Faso in Johannesburg in October last year.

SA have had some epic chokes in that time‚ too‚ notably with back-to-back defeats against Cape Verde Islands that cost Bafana a place at the Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup.

Their last performance was unconvincing‚ drawing 0-0 at home against Libya in Durban this month in the Cameroon 2019 qualifiers.

Wins against Seychelles at FNB Stadium on October 13 and then away against the Indian Ocean islanders on October 16 will see SA on 10 points and almost qualified.

TimesLIVE has identified five players Baxter might be – and probably is –looking at to bolster his squad from the disappointment against Libya when he announces his playing complement to meet Seychelles on Monday.

Xola Mlambo   The Orlando Pirates man has been scooping up man-of-the-match awards for the Absa Premiership log leaders and earned the praise of his coach‚ Milutin Sredojevic‚ and his assistant‚ Rulani Mokwena‚ as probably the best midfielder in the PSL right now.

Central midfield was a problem area for Bafana against Libya – where Dean Furman was highly effective cleaning up‚ but he and Kamohelo Mokotjo lacked the urgency as a pair to turn defence into attack.

Mlambo's presence can add much-needed dynamism as an option for the middle of the park for Baxter.

Thabo Nodada   So too‚ could the Cape Town City central midfielder Thabo Nodada.

The 23-year-old grows with each passing month at the Citizens‚ and has helped steer them to this weekend's MTN8 final against SuperSport United.

Nodada has earned praise from coach Benni McCarthy‚ and opposition players and coaches too‚ for his work-rate‚ and is capable of conjuring magic too.

Ayanda Patosi   Yes‚ Patosi is still a little overweight‚ though he's been working on it.

And yes‚ there remain question marks over his temperament.

But there are no questions over his potential.

Patosi has the X-factor to be able to change games.

If he can have a good cup final for City this weekend‚ it will be hard for Baxter to leave the deep striker out.

With Keagan Dolly‚ who was outstanding against Libya‚ injured Patosi would also bring in a left-footed presence to the squad.

He has a long way to go being a complete‚ consistent player‚ but perhaps a Bafana call-up will serve as inspiration to go back to City and work harder on becoming one.

Thembinkosi Lorch   Another left-footed player who can help plug the gap on the left wing left by Dolly.

Another man who has been in form for Pirates‚ without attracting the headlines quite so much as Mlambo and right-winger Vincent Pule have.

Lorch has scored twice in his last three games for Bucs‚ and his sharpness on the ball and intelligence being involved in buildups have been influential in Pirates' climb to the top of the PSL.

Phakamani Mahlambi   Mahlambi has only had time for two games for Mamelodi Sundowns since his return in late August from a season at Al Ahly in Egypt.

In that time he's scored one fine goal in a 3-3 draw starting against AmaZulu‚ then was a substitute against Lamontville Golden Arrows for Downs as they spent last week in KwaZulu-Natal.

Despite his lack of club game time‚ Seychelles seem sure to be susceptible at the back to sheer pace‚ and Mahlambi has plenty of that.

Another player who‚ like Nodada‚ can inject some youthful energy and hunger into Bafana.
