welcome to the Sewing Report t I'm Jennifer Moore helping you discover your

love of sewing crafts and DIY projects I've just received a delivery it's

something very special so we are gonna get this box open I'll see you in a

minute so here we are and I know you're probably like geez Jen what did you

order now well I have another kind of sewing machine we're gonna be unboxing

it I'm gonna be explaining why I decided to purchase this and maybe we'll give it

a test run okay so this is an embroidery machine something I've been wanting for

quite a while but hadn't been able to really convince myself into doing it but

something happened and I was convinced that this was the time so my husband

needed to get some shirts with embroidered logos on them for work and I

was looking online to see what my options were and I saw a few websites

that you could buy embroidered shirts but it was several hundred dollars for

like six shirts like 300 bucks for six shirts and he goes through shirts pretty

regularly so I knew we were gonna be ordering them again and again and again

so we talked about it and we decided to get an embroidery machine so that I

could do them we could use any shirt that he wanted shirts that he already

has so enter the Brother PE 800 I'd seen the Brother PE 770 for years now and I

was like that one looks interesting and then I saw they had upgraded the models

so I decided to spring the extra like hundred bucks and get the upgraded model

alright let's get this puppy open oh alright got a very thick construction

looking book here comes our the cover clearly I'm gonna need this to avoid

another cat incident 5x7 embroidery area which i think is awesome it comes with

some embroidery bobbin thread and I also ordered a

starter kit comes with stabilizer some thread some other stuff like needles and

that is allegedly coming in the mail today as well I will link that also

below got from Amazon which is where I do like 90% of my shopping okay alright

let's well lots of stared from here oh wow ok so this is the embroidery unit

ok nice inspection machine

this kind of looks like your standard sewing machine it's got like the bobbin

winder and everything that's cool and they did previously on the Brother SC

400 so hopefully this is kind of similar all right I'm gonna check in a little

bit later once I've read the instructions so that you're not just

watching me here reading because that would be really boring so I will see you

guys in a little bit

to deal with my tension trouble I took the bobbin case out and there's a little

screw on the front tiny and there's a little screwdriver

I turned my screw about 90 degrees counterclockwise test out different

settings but that seemed to work for me and then I changed my upper thread

tension from a 4.0 to a 2.0

since that first one got a little messed up we're gonna try another one let's do

an embroidered J for Jen

Teacher Fired For Giving Zeroes To Students Who Did Not Turn In Their Work - Duration: 5:09.

Being a good teacher is not easy, especially when there are certain rules and regulations

that you are forced to follow that you may not believe in.

When I was teaching at a private elementary school, I was told by the principal that I

could not fail students, even if they refused to hand in assignments and participate in

class.

The administration staff's explanation was that parents are paying lots of money for

their students to go to this school, and because of this, teachers are not allowed to hold

them back.

But what about public schools?

You would think these teachers would have much more leeway, but you could not be more

wrong.

One Florida teacher had to learn this the hard way after she was fired for giving zeros

to students who did not turn in their assignment.

Diane Tirado has been teaching for many years.

In August, she got a new job at West Gate K-8 School in Port St. Lucie as an eighth

grade U.S. history teacher, but her teaching method raised eyebrows among administrative

staff.

When several students did not turn their explorer notebook project, after giving them two weeks

to complete, she gave them zeros.

The school has a "no zero" policy, and below every grading rubric, it states in bold red

lettering: "NO ZEROS - LOWEST POSSIBLE GRADE IS 50%."

"But what if they do not turn it in, and they say we will give them a 50?

Oh no we do not," Tirado said, after asking administrators about this rule.

Just a few weeks after the new school year started, Tirado was terminated.

On her last day at the school, Tirado wrote this message on the whiteboard, which was

later shared on her Facebook page.

"Bye Kids, Mrs. Tirado loves you and wishes you the best in life!

I have been fired for refusing to give you a 50% for not handing anything in."

Because Tirado was still in her probationary period, there was no explanation in the termination

letter on exactly why she was fired.

And because of this, she may not be able to sue the school or get help from the teachers'

union.

That being said, Tirado does not regret taking a stand for what she believes in.

"A grade in Mrs. Tirado's class is earned," she said.

"I am so upset because we have a nation of kids that are expecting to get paid and live

their life just for showing up and it's not real," she added.

Tirado is sharing her story on Facebook, which has now gone viral, and hopes she can change

this policy.

"The reason I took on this fight was because it was ridiculous.

Teaching should not be this hard.

Teachers teach content, children do the assignments to the best of their ability and teachers

grade that work based on a grading scale that has been around a very long time.

Teachers also provide numerous attempts to get the work collected so they can give a

child a grade.

By nature, most teachers are loving souls who want to see students succeed.

We do above and beyond actual teaching to give them the support they need.

Are we perfect?

NO.

We make mistakes like all other human beings, but I know teachers work their butts off to

help children to be the best people they can be!!!"

Many people on Facebook are siding with the teacher, and believe she should not have been

fired:

"Is that for real?

I would be out of a job also," wrote a teacher.

"A teacher should have the right to decide the grade a

child receives.

Lynden Dorval, a former physics teacher at Ross Sheppard High School in Edmonton, Canada,

was suspended in 2012 for handing out zeroes to students who failed to hand in their work.

This school also had a "no zero" policy, so his teaching method landed him in hot water.

Less than a week after his termination, Dorval was offered a new job at a private school.

"Our evaluation policy is generally left up to the teachers," Peter Mitchell, head of

Tempo School, who hired Dorval, told CBC.

"I think students here would not be surprised to get a zero if they did not do their work."

Dorval also won his case in court and was compensated for his termination, which included

two years' salary and an increase in his pension.

"I knew that what I did was right and whether it was legal or not it was the right thing

to do and the support of family, friends and colleagues, and former students even, really

has helped get me through this," he told Global News.

Perhaps Tirado's viral story will be able to land her a new job, or change the way some

schools handle students who do not turn in their work.

Top 5 Sources for Finding a Good Finance Broker - Duration: 4:52.

Hi I'm Sunil and in this episode of Systematic Property

we'll look at 5 ways you can find a great mortgage broker.

Number 1: BNI.

Never heard of it before? It stands a Business Network International

and it's an organization that runs meetings all over the world.

I think they have 70,000 chapters.

Now if you're a member of BNI you go there in

order to get referrals for your business from other local

businesses.

Each chapter has a limited number of members in it.

One from each profession.

So if you're an accountant and you join a BNI chapter

no other accountant can join that Chapter.

And so what happens is you form these little these little groups form

or chapters form where people are helping each other

with business. They are offering referrals they're getting referrals

and it's a great way to grow your business if you haven't heard about it.

Now because of the rules of BNI you have to go every week,

you have to give referrals.

If not going to be thrown out It kind of like means that if you're the kind

of person who goes there then you kind of like a good

person right... not guaranteed for sure.

But kind of like okay.

So the first thing that I would do is when I'm looking in a new area I would

check to see if there's any BNI chapters in that area.

Look at the member list and see if there is a mortgage broker

or a finance broker or estate agent

and then call them up... and I Was part of BNI

and so I can have a conversation

with them and say hey "you know what's going on?" And then start a conversation.

These people know about networking they know about the

power of giving referrals

and so they're usually very good sources of great

contacts so that's one of my real secrets of

finding good people I just look at the BNI website

and look for a chapter in my area

or the area I'm investing in

and find someone there to speak to.

So that's number one.

Number two: Other Investors your network.

Are actually finding people

or having a network of people you can ask is very very important.

It's probably the quickest way of finding a good broker "who's use

somebody in this area

or can handle this type of investment?" And bash bash bash

here come the details and of course makes a lot of sense.

So it's one of the ways I leverage my network is to ask

them for referrals.

Number three is networking.

If you don't have a network build one right.

Just go and meet people and ask them about their brokers

and ask them who they should use.

And of course you can go and verify all of those.

But that's another good way of doing it.

Online sites or forum sites online.

Asking people "hey who knows a good broker"

and usually these forum sites

or Facebook groups or where the people are you'll end up finding

good people out there who can be recommended

or who are recommended from other people you can see that track record.

You can see the number of posts they put out there

and it'll give you some sort of confidence in terms of finding someone

who is good. So I like using online forums as well

and maybe even asking other people on there hey you know "I'm completely new

I don't know anybody but I'm looking to do a deal like this in this

area. Does anyone know a good finance broker?" And usually

get a whole long list of people being recommended to me.

Still means I need to check them out.

In all cases you need to do your due diligence

and interview your brokers.

I think number five is the way that I did it when I started out the good

old handshakes.

Just go and meet a bunch of mortgage brokers

and talk to them and if you the more you talk to them the more you're going to learn

which ones are good which ones are bad.

All mortgage brokers say they can do the deal for you I've never met one that said they

can't do the deal. Of course

and sometimes it's a bit of trial and error.

It took me a year to find a really good one

and then held on to him for my life.

And we did a lot of deals together. So those are five great sources

of finding a good mortgage broker

and just a word of caution I would say is I very rarely

go with a mortgage broker recommended by my estate agent.

I know it sounds really bad but usually there's some sort

of backhanded deal going on

or it's not so backhanded it's obvious.

And they tell you, but I need a mortgage broker who really

knows the business

and who someone who knows how to do creative deals that's very

very important.

So usually when you find a mortgage broker

they're usually going to put you in a cubbyhole "you're this

type of person". And so I'm looking for someone who is pretty special

and the best way of finding them is a talk to lots of people

after getting recommendations.
