Hello! Good health! Welcome to my channel!
Today's video as you can see from the title, is about different kinds of conditioners.
In this video I will be telling you about how many kinds of conditioners there are and how you should be using them.
And if you cannot find the products in this country, I will show you
how you can make them yourselves at home with products available in this country.
Thank you! Now let's get into the video!
The first kind of conditioner is one that we all know. The conditioner that I am now showing you,
is the wash out kind of conditioner. Meaning the one you use right after using your shampoo.
A lot of times you can find this conditioner in Ethiopia, however in my previous video, found here.
I tell you about what kind of conditioner you should not be using.
However, you should know that we should not be leaving this conditioner in our hair for a long period!
If you read the directions behind the bottle it tells you to only leave it in for a few minutes then to completely wash it out.
So when you leave this conditioner in your hair for a long period of time, it is not doing its job properly!
Meaning, you are not getting the benefits you need from it at all.
A lot of times we tend to leave it in our hair when we have it curly or when we want a lot of moisture.
However, we should not be doing this. The reason that we are advised to wash it out is because
when you leave it in your hair and it starts to dry, the air and or the sun will start to suck the moisture
out of your hair. When that happens your hair will become dry, brittle and you will have breakage.
A lot of us think that when we wear our hair curly and we see breakage, we tend to think it is because of the water.
So, when you want to wear your hair curly and when you also want to moisturize it, you should
not use this conditioner. This is not the conditioner you should be using.
The conditioner you should be using is the one I'll be talking about next.
This conditioner is known as a leave-in conditioner, meaning you can leave it in for a long period of time.
This conditioner is not usually found in this country. If you do happen to find it good. If not, after I finish
telling you about the different kinds of conditioners, I will show you how you can make it yourselves
The reason why leave in conditioner is beneficial to your hair is because it moisturizes your hair,
and also when you put this in your hair when leaving your hair curly, it will not cause breakage.
Meaning, the air or the sun will not suck the moisture from your hair.
The reason why is because it is specifically formulated to protect your hair from the air and the sun.
Meaning, it is formulated to protect you from all elements that can harm your hair.
So, whenever you want to wear your hair curly or moisturize it, you should use a leave-in conditioner.
If you use the conditioner I mentioned before, the wash out conditioner, it will cause breakage to your hair.
A leave-in conditioner usually has oils and other great ingredients that are beneficial to your hair it will be protected.
Some people usually like to use oil after their leave-in conditioner because they find it protects their hair better.
If you find it to be too much, using oil after your leave-in conditioner, at the end of your routine, you don't have to do it.
Since the leave-in conditioner already has the necessary oils in it, you do not need to add more.
However, if you feel like you really need the extra protection, there are oils that you can use
and they have great benefits. Plus, they can be found in Ethiopia. If you want a detailed video on these oils,
I can bring it to you in another video. Please leave me a comment if you are interested!
The third and last type of conditioner is a deep conditioner, we tend to know it as Treatment.
There is protein treatment and there is moisturizing treatment.
Protein treatment helps with breakage, strengthening your hair and growing your hair longer.
So when you are using a treatment it is either a protein treatment or a moisturizing treatment, one or the other.
When using a protein treatment it should only be once a month.
As for a moisturizing treatment, it is recommended to be used at least once a week.
It is recommended to use treatments before you shampoo or after you condition your hair.
When using a protein treatment what you should be doing is, after you shampoo your hair and use the first
kind of conditioner ( the wash out kind) to moisturize and detangle you hair, you apply your the treatment.
You should usually do this on days you use shampoos meaning once a month. Tell you more why in a bit.
The reason you should do this is because protein treatments are very strong. If you leave it in for hours or
if you use it regularly, it will cause breakage instead of all the benefits I told you before.
As for moisturizing treatments you should be using it as least once a week or on days you wash your hair.
If you tend to use shampoo every week, you would use your shampoo then conditioner (the wash out kind)
then use your moisturizing treatment. Its difference from protein treatment is that you can leave it on longer.
Usually when you look at the directions at the back, it says you can leave it on from 15 to 45 minutes.
When your using a moisturizing treatment, you sometimes can leave it in for much longer if you want.
If you feel as though this week you neglected your hair or it was a bit dull and it needs extra TLC,
you can leave it on overnight and wash it out in the morning with cold water.
However, when you're using a protein treatment you should not do that. If the directions in the back say
you should leave it on from 15 to 45 minutes, you definitely should only leave it on for that long then wash.
If the treatments you are using are homemade by using avocados or eggs, you should use them before
your shampoo and not after your wash out conditioner!
Now let me give you some extra tips on how to use and make these conditioners better.
When using the first conditioner, the wash out kind, you can use it just like a shampoo.
When you use it in place of your shampoo, it will wash all the dirt or extra sebum out and unlike a shampoo,
it will not strip your hair of any moisture and leave it hard or dry and lead to breakage.
And since the majority of the shampoos found here are extremely harsh and have bad ingredients it is better
for the health of your hair to use the wash out conditioner in place of your shampoo.
When using a leave-in conditioner, you shouldn't just leave it in for a day, you can actually leave it in for days like a cream!
If you want to wear your hair curly and you want the curls to stay formed and last for days without having to
reapply the leave in conditioner every other day, I will give you a routine on how to apply it!
After washing your hair, (shampoo, conditioner and deep treatment) you apply a generous amount of the leave in conditioner.
Then you apply a cream, a lot of times you can find this one in stores that buy from flight attendants, if you can.
If you don't have stores like that where you are it's ok, you can skip it and apply the leave in conditioner then
a gel (that does not have alcohol or other bad ingredients) and go on with your day!
When doing this, your hair will probably be kind of wet or damp so if you're scared of it ruining your clothes.
Therefore, you can put a towel on your shoulders but the air will dry it fast as you go on about your day.
If you don't happen to find a gel without alcohol or bad ingredients then you can make flaxseed gel at home.
If you want I can make a video on how to make a flaxseed gel but you can probably find many recipes
online or find videos here on Youtube on how to make flaxseed gel easily at home.
At the end of the day when you come back home, put your hair in a bun or wrap it with a scarf and go to sleep.
In the morning to get your curls back to how they were the day before, let your hair down and use a spray bottle,
something like this if you can find it. Put some water in it then spritz your hair all over to get it a little damp.
This will activate the leave-in conditioner as well as the other products, so that your curls look like they did the day before.
If you feel like you need a little bit more product to form your curls, dampen your hair then put only the leave-in
conditioner in your hands, none of the other products, and apply it to your hair as you did on the first day.
If you want a more detailed and visual representation on how to apply the leave-in conditioner or of the curly hair
routine I suggested. Leave me a comment down below and I will make a video specifically on my curly hair routine.
Now, I will give you a tip on how to make your deep treatments, store bought or home made, better!
If you have oils at home, such as Castor Oil or Jamaican Black Castor Oil, or Coconut Oil, Argan Oil or even Olive Oil,
you can use them in your deep treatments. Not in your protein treatments but your moisturizing treatments.
You can put them in the portion you use on that day or you can put it in the container itself, if store bought.
Now, I will show you how to make your own Leave-In Conditioner at home!
If you want to know the ingredients used for these Leave-In Conditioners, they are in the Description Box below.
You take the container that you will store the leave in conditioner in and put the flaxseed gel in it.
As you can see I have a few flaxseed seeds that are in the gel, but I recommend you take the time to take them out.
After you have put the flaxseed gel in the container beat it a little bit to make sure it is well mixed.
Then add the Vitamin E oil and lemon/lime. You can use either or, but I prefer to use both.
Make sure you remove the seeds that might have slipped when you were squeezing the lemon/lime.
After you remove the lemon/lime seeds, beat the mixture well again so that all the ingredients we added combine.
After you have mixed it well, add the other oils. First the Shea Butter, then the Coconut Oil and then the Olive Oil.
Then beat it again as you did before so that everything is well combined.
Once you're done beating it, this is what your Leave-In Conditioner should look like.
Make sure that the consistency looks like this. If it doesn't beat it some more until you get it to this.
Once you have finished these steps, your Leave-In Conditioner is ready! You can start using it right away!
Whenever you are not using it make sure to store it in the refrigerator when you are not using it.
Now we will be making the Aloe Vera Leave-In Conditioner!
The ingredients you will need for this conditioner is almost the same as the previous one.
The only difference is that we use Aloe Vera Gel instead of Flaxseed Gel.
If you want the full ingredient list, just like the other one, it is in the Description Box!
The first step for this Leave-In Conditioner is getting the Aloe Vera Gel from the plant/leaf. You did this by splitting
the leaf in half then rubbing off the gooey gel part off of the leaf.
I thought that it would be easier to show you this on camera compared to the making of the flaxseed gel but
I was wrong. This took me such a long time to do and I needed to use more leafs than you saw at the beginning.
So I will not be showing you the whole process of the extraction just a little bit.
Make sure that unlike me, part of the leaf does not go into the bowl as you only need the gel.
If it does happen to fall in, make sure you remove it.
As you can see it is a bit hard to remove parts of the leaf, so make sure you make this when you have ample amount of time.
Once you remove parts of the leaf this is what you should have.
Now you can start to add the other ingredients.
Add the oils and the lemon/lime, just like the previous Leave-In Conditioner.
Once you've added all the ingredients, start to beat it so that all the ingredients combine well.
However, if you don't want to use your hands to beat the mixture you can use a blender.
For this Leave-In Conditioner it is actually best to use a blender as the gel is watery and there are oils.
After you beat it, either by hand or blender, this is how your Leave-In Conditioner should look.
If you want to add other oils for benefits or to add fragrance feel free to use them.
As you just saw, I made these leave-in conditioners.
This container is one that I recycled from my previous leave-in conditioner.
This one was not from a hair product so I rinsed and disinfected it to use it to store the leave-in conditioner.
If I can repurpose it, why throw it out!
There are some important things I need to tell you about these conditioners.
After you make them, if you're not going to use them right away, make sure you store them in the refrigerator.
This leave-in conditioner especially since it is made with Aloe Vera you definitely need to store it in the fridge.
The first day that you make it you will notice that, if you leave it out, the oil and the water will split
Whenever you are about to use it make sure that you shake it to make sure that everything gets mixed.
So like I said best to keep it in the refrigerator since it is made from a natural ingredient base.
If you leave it out it will go bad faster than if you were to keep it in the refrigerator.
So for both these conditioners, if you leave them in the refrigerator, they have a shelf life of about 1 to 2 weeks.
If you happen to have thick hair I would recommend you use the flaxseed leave-in conditioner.
If you have hair that is a lot more thinner that does not like too much product, I recommend using this one.
If there are oils that you like to use in your hair, feel free to add them since you're making it for yourselves.
I used these oils because they're the ones I like to use in my hair and they were what I had in my home.
