Hunt for Shackletons lost ship is abandoned after underwater craft is trapped in a sheet of ice Da - Duration: 6:49.

Hunt for Shackletons lost ship is abandoned after underwater craft is trapped in a sheet of ice Da

The search for Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackletons lost Endurance ship has been called off, after extreme weather trapped an underwater vehicle in a sheet of ice.

Severe weather closed in and the sea ice conditions in the Antarctic led to the loss of the AUV7, a specialist submersible autonomous underwater vehicle, which was deployed to locate the wreck using HD still colour cameras.

The Weddell Sea Expedition team was on the final leg of the mission when the vehicle entered underneath a vast sheet of floating ice to take images of the legendary ship but contact was lost with the Expedition research vessel, the S.A. Agulhas II.

The search for Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackletons lost Endurance ship pictured has been called off, after extreme weather trapped an underwater vehicle in a sheet of ice

The Weddell Sea Expedition team was on the final leg of the mission when the vehicle entered underneath a vast sheet of floating ice to take images of the legendary ship but contact was lost with the Expedition research vessel, the S.A. Agulhas II pictured

The Larsen C Ice shelf is the fourth largest in the Antarctic and only a handful of ships have navigated the area and where The Endurance was abandoned deep in the ice

Despite efforts to recover the AUV7, the team decided to abandon the mission due to risks of becoming themselves trapped in the ice.

Any captured footage that may have been of Endurance on the seabed was lost.

The AUV7 had conducted what is believed to be the longest and deepest dedicated under ice survey ever, lasting over 30 hours.

Dr John Shears, polar geographer and expedition leader, said: The Weddell Sea Expedition team are truly disappointed that after such a huge effort, and overcoming several major setbacks, we have not been able to find Endurance.

Sir Ernest Shackleton pictured in 1922, seven years after he lost The Endurance

We are, however, very proud of our other achievements over the past weeks in Antarctica.

We have greatly surpassed our primary Expedition objective of undertaking pioneering scientific research at the Larsen C Ice Shelf.

We have also conducted an unprecedented educational outreach programme, allowing children from around the world to engage in real time with the expedition and our adventures from the outset.

We will shortly begin our return leg to Cape Town, after an expedition which has been my great privilege and honour to lead.

The Expedition team, and the officers and crew of the S.A. Agulhas II, have been simply outstanding.

I would also like to thank The Flotilla Foundation, and all of our partners who have all played a key role in supporting this incredible expedition.

Sir Ernest Shackletons ship, Endurance, was crushed by ice and sank in 1915.

The search for Endurance was part of a ground breaking scientific research programme in the waters around the Larsen C Ice Shelf and the A 68 Iceberg in Antarctica.

The international team of glaciologists, marine biologists and oceanographers involved in the Expedition have surveyed the seafloor and the rich and little studied biological systems that lie beneath the ice infested sea.

The conditions we are facing are challenging. There is an ice floe moving in from the West and air temperatures have dropped to below 14 degree centigrade. It gives us a sense of the harsh, unforgiving time that Shackleton and his men endured out here.

The explorers hoped to find the wreck of the Endurance pictured before their submersible vehicle was lost

SA Aguilas II features a helipad on the rear of the hull and a large crane at the front which can be used to weaken the ice ahead

The ice ridden Weddell Sea surrounds the Larsen C Ice Shelf where The Endurance became trapped for months in 1915

Mensun Bound, director of exploration on the expedition, said: As a team we are clearly disappointed not to have been successful in our mission to find Endurance.

Like Shackleton before us, who described the graveyard of Endurance as the worst portion of the worst sea in the world, our well laid plans were overcome by the rapidly moving ice, and what Shackleton called the evil conditions of The Weddell Sea.

We are pleased to have brought the story of Shackleton and Endurance to new audiences, and to the next generation, who will be entrusted with the essential safeguarding of our polar regions, and our planet more broadly.

We hope our adventure will have engaged young people about the pioneering spirit, courage and fortitude of those who sailed with Endurance to Antarctica.

We pay tribute to the navigational skills of Frank Worsley, the captain of the Endurance, whose detailed records were invaluable in our reaching the area where she was lost.

Shackletons attempt to cross Antarctica began in 1914.

After the vessel became trapped in ice for 10 months and then sank, the explorer and his crew survived for six months before reaching uninhabited Elephant Island.

Shackleton and five other men then set off to seek help at a whaling station on the island of South Georgia.

After three unsuccessful attempts, Shackleton finally rescued his men in August 1916.

The Weddell Sea Expedition team says it may attempt the mission again.

Pro football league AAF is using technology that may revolutionize pro sports and gambling - Duration: 13:57.

CLOSE The AAF surpassed expectations and opened to rave reviews and good viewership totals

USA TODAY CONNECT11TWEET11LinkedIn11COMMENT11EMAIL11MORE11Less than a week removed from the Super Bowl, a new pro football league debuted last weekend with an average crowd size that would have ranked 95th out of 130 teams in major college football

In four games, the eight-team Alliance of American Football drew an average of 19,000, including 11,751 in Arizona

But that's not considered bad for business for this new venture. The league averaged 3

25 million viewers Saturday on CBS, better than an NBA game on ABC, according to Nielsen data

And besides, the league's long-term business play isn't even based on ticket sales and TV ratings, unlike traditional sports leagues

It's instead based on sports gambling data and technology that is using football as its public storefront and laboratory

If it goes the way investors hope, it will transform sports gambling, boost sports viewership and even affect other fields such as transportation and medicine

Player introductions in Orlando last weekend for an opener of the Alliance of American Football

(Photo11: Phelan M. Ebenhack, AP)"The real place where we make revenue is in the back-end technology and how it can be sold to other partners," said Charlie Ebersol, co-founder of the AAF and a television producer

"A lot of what this business is about is being an iceberg. You see about 10 percent of what the company is above water publicly

"Opinion:As it satisfies football fans, AAF could become needed pipeline for NFLRemember them?: AAF's starting quarterbacks are names you will recognizeInvestors are so bullish on it that Ebersol said it plans to spend $500 million to $750 million in the next five years to get off the ground

The investors include Silicon Valley venture capitalists and MGM Resorts International, one of the biggest casino companies in the world

To help develop the tech, the league also hired a head engineer who previously worked as a software engineer at Tesla, the electric car maker, and Lockheed Martin, the defense contractor

This is why the AAF might be here to stay, at least for several years, even though alternative pro football leagues historically have collapsed under the weight of huge costs and the heavy shadow of the NFL

Next year, another new pro football league – the XFL – is also starting the week after the Super Bowl and is getting $500 million in investment runway from its founder, Vince McMahon

Ebersol said he isn't concerned by that. His investors are in for the longer game, based largely on developing technology that would help sports gamblers bet on quicker, shorter plays

Such technology would be fast enough to allow gamblers to bet on the next play in a football game with a variety of options through an application on their mobile phones

Will the next play be a run or a pass? A first down or a touchdown?Such "in-game" sports gambling innovation is just getting started after the U

S. Supreme Court last year enabled the expansion of legal sports gambling outside of Nevada

More money on more plays in more states also is expected to intensify viewer interest in more games in more leagues even when the game scores are lopsided, making them more valuable to media companies and advertisers

"It's not fully functional, but it's almost there," said Scott Butera, president of interactive gaming at MGM, which has an exclusive license for AAF's sports gambling technology

"What it will do, which is very important to us from a sports betting standpoint, is it will allow almost immediate transmission of data and what's going on in an event to your mobile device, which will allow us to have play-by-play gambling, which is non-existent today

"Such speed is essential for MGM. It wants no lag time between what happens at the live event and the time gamblers see it streaming on their phones

The transmission delay between the live event and when a viewer sees it on a TV or phone can take many seconds, giving an advantage to gamblers at the live event who can see it before the rest of the world

This technology would erase that gap. Last weekend, the streaming app was showing live action well before television was by more than a play, Butera said

AAF players are also wearing technology in games that gather a variety of data that can help MGM automate instant betting odds for next-play bets

Ebersol said this helps the technology's "predictive casting," which uses historical data, plus play formation data, including which players are on the field at the moment

Besides next-play betting, other in-game betting with longer action windows are expected to be a big part of the gambling business, such as how a team might end its offensive possession

Will it be a punt, field goal or touchdown?"Better data certainly helps to power a greater array of live markets and allows sportsbooks to offer higher limits for live markets," said Chris Grove, a gambling industry analyst for Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, a research firm

"We think next-play betting is likely to remain a niche activity, even given advances in technology

Where data-rich leagues like the AAF are likely to see more activity is in forms of betting that draw heavily on data, but have a longer action window

"Grove said there have been next-play markets in Nevada, and there's no reason the AAF will have a monopoly on better data

It depends on how the tech develops, including what kind of edge the AAF might get from players wearing the tech

Grove said better data allows for smarter pricing, more aggressive in-play markets and new kinds of bets

Butera said other types of in-game betting for AAF games through MGM are only operational right now in Nevada and awaiting review in New Jersey, where traditional sports gambling was recently legalized

In some states right now, like California, a gambler would have to download the MGM app and cross the state line

The options are expected to grow in the next five years with the spread of legalized sports betting

Other audience measurements for the first weekend pleased Butera – even in-person attendance, which was expected to be in the 20,000-range

"The viewership was better than expected," Butera said. "The attendance was better than expected, and the betting volumes were better than expected

There was a lot of in-game betting, too, which means the next generation is really following it

"In the meantime, the league's costs will be considerable. It has more than 400 players and is giving them minimum, non-guaranteed contracts of $250,000 over three years, plus benefits and incentives

To cover rent and costs for using San Diego's stadium alone, the league's expenses were estimated to be $185,000 per game, according to its agreement last year with the city of San Diego

The next games are this weekend, televised by the NFL Network, CBS Sports Network and TNT

The technology behind the scenes will be the star in training, poised for worlds beyond

"You're talking about tens of millions in points of data that we've figured out how to compress and deliver it in real time," Ebersol said

"So any industry that needs to take that level of data and then compress it and deliver it instantly can use that application

Obviously, the application out of the gate is the gambling platform, but we're doing it for a variety of other partners

"He cited transportation and physical therapy as possible beneficiaries. In the latter, all of the league's players wearing the technology could contribute data to learn the efficacy of various treatments and products for injuries

He said various investors have bought into the parent company that includes the league and tech

The investment runway reminds him of an anecdote Hall of Fame coach John Madden told him recently about the launch of the American Football League in the 1960s before it merged into the NFL

The story involved Lamar Hunt, a founder of the AFL, and Hunt's father, who was informed that his son had lost more than $1 million in the venture

Hunt's father allegedly replied, "Well, at that rate, he only has 100 years left before he runs out of money

2 - Step ONE - What is it about? - Duration: 5:42.

Good morning and here I am again to present Kāmila Holyt's book and which

is "Step One: We Can Have Lots Of Fun" and I just want to read a few passages of

the book. What I really... I mean this book has helped me! Finding the way to

just live out of these caos and just make this happy, funny, colorful and

engaging place to live and I hope this can help you, too. My intent is to make it

simple and to offer you practical tools but the concepts that create the whole

picture are entangled through space, time and cultures. Only when I

started to connect the dots I saw how everything was linked together

and everything was there shouting out loud: "Hey humans, look at yourselves

in the mirror don't you know who you are?!" Just to mention a part of what I mean

with everything (and this is the list of the things that have ve been going

on in my mind): ancient spiritual traditions, quantum physics, farmers

knowledge, granny's wisdom, oneiric reality, pop culture worlds, cultivated art

and so on. This craziness of writing in a foreign language obliges me to have

clean, defined thoughts: I will be helped by Tarot and Kabbalah's Tree Of Life.

To me they are tools, vocabularies to talk about

untalkable stuff. This is what lies behind, but you may not even notice.

I confess I'm not an expert and before 2012 I had never thought Tarot and

Kabbalah could ever end to my life. But we need words and symbols to understand

unspeakable reality. Moreover when we go into a trascendental one it is so

untouchable we need to find a way in which to make it understandable. So I

have done that trip and I am back to invent new metaphors and symbols for you

to read it easily. Are you ready to initialize or initiate yourself and

start living a more authentic life? Remember you are going to be guided (not

by me of course)! Do you want to find your life purpose? I hope this book will be

able to provide you with tools that can make it just quicker. It's thrilling

I just feel pushed to write my version of a story that has been told for

thousands of years: in fact this book is about life and creation, about divinity

which is inside us and was only waiting to be rediscovered. It is about how to

create a new way of living through your Divine self. I can state such an

incredible affirmation from a position where I have learned it through

experience and it is my life experience the thing I must leave out of this book

if I want to offer you the essential understandings I have been able to

turn Universal thanks to Tarot. But please remember that everything you're

going to read has been tasted by my poor heart and mind in an incredible and not

relaxing at all series of real and oneiric, tragical and comic, surreal and

sweet everyday - mystical and sometimes shocking - outer and inner facts! Ok this

last sentence was complicated but it is just a wink for those who have been

living a strange period lately. If sometimes I want to laugh a little bit

just understand that it is not a lack of respect

towards life, but a profound and complete sense of gratitude that makes me finally

feel free. This inner bliss I want to share with you!

After gaining weight, President Trump is now considered obese Los Angeles Times - Duration: 3:15.

After gaining weight, President Trump is now considered obese Los Angeles Times

President Trump has put on some pounds and is now officially considered obese.

The White House on Thursday released results of his most recent physical, revealing that his body mass index is now 30.4. Thats based on the fact that hes carrying 243 pounds on his 6 foot 3 frame. Thats up from 236 pounds in September 2016 before he became president.

A BMI of 30 is the level at which doctors consider someone obese under this commonly used formula. About 40 percent of Americans are obese, and that raises their risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke and some forms of cancer.

Trump doesnt drink alcohol or smoke, but hes not a big fan of the gym either. His primary form of exercise is golf. And he says he gets plenty of walking in around the White House complex.

As for his diet, Trumps love of fast food remains. Last month, he invited the college football champion Clemson Tigers to the White House during the partial government shutdown. With the White House kitchen too understaffed to cater a meal, Trump stepped in: He ordered burgers, french fries and pizza.

Despite gaining 4 pounds since last year, the presidents physician Dr. Sean Conley said, the 72 year old president remains in very good health overall.

His resting heart rate was 70 beats a minute, and his blood pressure reading was 118 over 80, well within the normal range.

Conley said that routine lab tests were performed and that Trumps liver, kidney and thyroid functions were all normal, as were his electrolytes and blood counts. An electrocardiogram, a test that measures electrical activity generated by the heart as it beats, remained unchanged from last year.

Despite the fact that hes obese, his blood pressure is normal, said Dr. Mariell Jessup, the American Heart Assn.s chief science and medical officer.

Using the associations heart risk calculator, he has a 17 percent chance of developing cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years, mostly because of his age and slightly elevated levels of bad cholesterol, she said.

Heres how President Trumps health data stack up against President Obamas, taken from an October 2011 report.

Modern to catch any potential problems but also to assure the public that they are fit for office. Trump went to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last week for his second periodic physical, which lasted about four hours. During his exam, he received a flu shot and an inoculation to help prevent shingles, a viral infection that causes a painful rash.

I performed and supervised the evaluation with a panel of 11 different board certified specialists, Conley wrote in a memorandum to the White House. He did not undergo any procedures requiring sedation or anesthesia.

Trumps cholesterol reading improved since last year.

At his physical in January 2018, his total cholesterol was 223, which is higher than recommended, even though he was taking a low dose of the statin drug Crestor to help lower so called bad cholesterol, or LDL, and fats. Last year, his doctor said he would increase that dose in an effort to get Trumps LDL reading of 143 below 120.

Now, Trumps total cholesterol is down to 196, but his bad cholesterol is 122 slightly elevated. Conley said he planned to increase the dosage of a statin drug to 40 milligrams a day to bring the presidents cholesterol reading down further.

Dr. Robert Eckel, a former American Heart Assn. president and cardiologist at the University of Colorado, said he would aim for an LDL below 100.

Losing some weight would help modify some of the risk factors for heart disease, Eckel said. A 20 to 25 pound weight loss would be what Id recommend if he were my patient. And thats not a quick fix.

Trump is officially obese medical exam shows after he gained four pounds in a year - Duration: 9:01.

President Trump gained four pounds since his last physical, making him obese, his latest medical exam shows

Dr.Sean Conley said in a Thursday memo that Trump weights 243 pounds, which is four over the 239 that the president weighed in at last year

It was just enough for the president to be designated 'obese' by the government's standards

Conley said that no other major changes to his medical or surgical history took place and that routine labs were conducted during the four-hour physical at Walter Reed medical center that took place last Friday

In a letter to the president's chief spokeswoman, Conley said that Trump is 'in very good health' and expected to 'remain so for the duration of his Presidency, and beyond

' Additional reports and recommendations for the 72-year-old president who weighed in at 239 pounds at the time of his last check-up were still being worked up, Conley said

'The President is very grateful for the outstanding care he received today, and he especially wants to thank all the doctors, nurses, enlisted and civilian staff who participated,' Conley wrote

Conley did not provide any details about Trump's health in the letter the White House provided to press early Friday evening, aside from his assessment that the president is under no reasonable threat of developing a life-threatening condition

The results of Trump's last physical were disclosed by his doctor at a televised briefing for the press, where the president's doctor at the time, Ronny Jackson, made comments about his patient's health that were considered to be hyperbolic

He said that the president's 'good genes' had kept him in 'excellent' health, even though he admitted Trump need to shed some pounds

The president was deemed to be overweight, by government standards, but not quite obese

Jackson put him on a diet and exercise plan and gave him a goal of losing 10 to 15 pounds

The White House admitted on the eve of his Friday physical, however, that the president hasn't always followed it

'The President received a diet and exercise plan last year after his annual physical, but the President admits he has not followed it religiously,' White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told CNN

The U.S.president is a known lover of fast food who consumed McDonald's regularly on the campaign trail

He paid out of pocket last month for the Clemson Tigers to devour fast food when  the 2018 College Football Playoff champions visited the White House amid the partial government shutdown when serving a large meal cooked by staff was out of the question

'We ordered American fast food.Paid for by me.Lots of hamburgers, lots of pizza, I think they'd like it better than anything we could give,' Trump told reporters in January

'We have some very large people that like eating, so I think we're gonna have a little fun

' Trump brought in Big Macs from McDonald's and burgers from Wendy's and Burger King, along with Domino's pizza and french fries

'We have pizzas, we have 300 hamburgers, many, many french fries, all of our favorite foods

I want to see what's here when we leave, because I don't think it's going to be much,' he told reporters as he showed off the food at the start of the event

His choice of fast food for the event was unusual, but it is the president's favorite

The New York Times even dubbed him the fast food president once.Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and deputy campaign manager David Bossie described a typical campaign meal Trump would order from McDonald's in their book on the campaign

'On Trump Force One there were four major food groups: McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, pizza and Diet Coke,' they wrote

They recalled that Trump would have 'two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish, and a chocolate malted' shake on regular basis

Lewandoski later clarified to CNN that Trump skipped the carbs, and that's why he ordered so many sandwiches

'Well, he never ate the bread, which is the important part,' Lewandowski said.'He was busy campaigning

We didn't have time to sit down for a meal.' During the campaign, Trump posted photos of his fast food meals on social media: eating Kentucky Fried Chicken (with a knife and fork) or a McDonald's hamburger with fries

In May 2015, while campaigning the president told DailyMail.com that he ate fast food because 'it's quick,' as his ex-campaign manager later wrote about

Jackson, who served as physician to the president before and was named medical adviser to him this month, gave Trump an 'excellent' report on his health after his last physical exam

He told reporters during a press briefing at the height of speculation that Trump was in mental decline that he passed a cognitive test with flying colors and had such good genes that he could have lived past the age of 200 had he taken better care of himself

The medical doctor who worked on Barack Obama's team, and was later nominated by Trump to be his Veteran's Affairs secretary, acknowledged that Trump needed to lose weight, however

'I think a reasonable goal over the next year or so would be to lose 10 to 15 pounds,' he said

'We talked about diet and exercise a lot.He is more enthusiastic about the diet part than the exercise part, but we're going to do both
