Waching daily Feb 5 2019

President Trump will use his speech to a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday night to call out the 'resistance' opposing his agenda and ask for Democrat's cooperation on legislative initiatives from border security to infrastructure

'We have a crisis on the Southern border and the Congress has failed to do its job – this Congress, last Congress and for quite a while to make sure that we have what we need at the southern border, which of course the centerpiece is a physical barrier, wall, steel slats,' Kellyanne Conway told reporters on Monday afternoon

'But at the same time this president is going to call for an end to the politics of resistance, retribution and call for more comity,' she added

The White House has been dribbling out tidbits of the hour-long address that Trump will give in primetime on Tuesday

According to Politico, Trump will announce a plan to significantly reduce or eliminate HIV transmissions by 2030

Officials wouldn't confirm Trump's plan to reveal the initiative on Tuesday night, saying they didn't want to get ahead of anything he could announce

They declined on multiple occasions over the last week to get into the meat of of his announcements, even as Trump teased major declarations on border security and the location and timing of his next nuclear summit with Kim Jong-un

A senior official said Friday that the 2019 State of the Union address will have the theme 'choosing greatness' and Trump will seek to 'heal old wounds' in the speech to Congress

He will encourage all Americans to 'adopt a spirit of cooperation' in the remarks that the White House says is intended to be 'unifying,' in spite of the hostilities that have erupted between the president and Democratic lawmakers and led to a government shutdown

'President Trump's a problem solver, and he will offer solutions that have bipartisan appeal, which are doable and practical,' a senior official, who briefed reporters on the remarks on Friday afternoon, said

He will spend time in the address pushing his trade deal with Mexico, highlighting his trade talks with China, promoting democracy in Venezuela, calling for the cessation of 'endless wars' and asking Congress to pass bills to improve America's infrastructure and lower the price of prescription drugs

Notably, in a nod to the administration's pro-life agenda, the official said, 'He will talk about the fund importance of respecting human life

' Asked if the president's speech will address racial tension in America, the official pointedly told reporters, 'I think the president's going to cast an inspiring vision for all Americans

' The White House would neither comment on any new proposals the president could make nor shed additional light on Trump's suggestion that he could declare a national emergency on the border Immigration will be a major topic of the speech, the person indicated

But the White House official refused to go further than that.'I think afterwards, you'll say, yeah, that's a top priority,' the person said as reporter after reporter pushed for more information on the immigration section

In the lengthy address that the White House says will be in keeping with a traditional State of the Union speeches, the official said that Trump will deliver a unifying, bipartisan, optimistic message

'People will be reminded through the speech of the broad appeal of the president's agenda,' the official said

It will be, in a word, 'visionary,' the official told reporters on Friday. For instance, Trump is set to say: 'Together we can break decades of political stalemate, we can bridge old divisions, heal old wounds build new coalitions, forge new solutions and unlock the extraordinary promise of America's future

The decision is ours to make.' President Trump hinted Friday that he could use his State of the Union address to announce a national emergency on the border

The action would be controversial and totally fly in the face of the outline White House provided for speech's goals and content

He told reporters he's 'certainly thinking about' making the declaration.'I think there's a good chance we'll have to do that,' he said

Asked if he was suggesting he'll make the announcement on Tuesday night, Trump replied: 'What I'm saying is listen closely to the State of the Union

I think you'll find it very exciting.' Trump has been saying for weeks that he could declare a national emergency at the border to free up manpower and funds to build the border wall that Democrats' have steadfastly opposed

The order would almost immediately be challenged.Trump said Friday he believes it would be hard for the courts to keep him from exercising the authority, however

'We have very, very strong legal standing, it would be very hard to do that. But they tend to go to the Ninth Circuit and when they go to the Ninth Circuit, things happen,' he said of the panel that's kept his other executive actions from going into immediate effect

President Trump said that he's already 'building a lot of wall' and will continue to do with 'funds on hand' that appropriators gave him for fencing

'We're negotiating very tough prices, we've designed a much better looking wall that is also actually a better wall, which is actually an interesting combination - it's far more beautiful and it's better - it's much more protective,' he revealed

He refused to say outright if he's planning to declare a national emergency, cryptically telling a reporter: 'I don't want to say, you'll hear the State of the Union, and then you'll see what happens right after the State of the Union

' If Trump declares a national emergency, it could scuttle a deal on Capitol Hill

A bipartisan panel of legislators are looking for ways to satisfy his request by Feb

15 and demands from their own caucus that they withhold $5.7billion in taxpayer funds that Trump says he needs to finish his border barrier

The president said repeatedly this week that they are 'wasting their time' on talks unless the proposal includes his border wall

'We will be looking at a national emergency, because I don't think anything's going to happen

I don't think Democrats want border security. And when I hear them talk about the fact that walls are immoral and walls don't work - they know they work,' Trump contended

He introduced the mantra last week that America should 'build a wall' and 'crime will fall' as he tried to sell his border security package

'The chant now should be "Finish the Wall!" because we're building a lot of wall,' he claimed on Friday

'I could see we're getting nowhere with the Democrats, we're not going to get anywhere with them, it's going to be part of their campaign, but I don't think it's good politically

' Trump said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi 'should be ashamed of herself because she's hurting a lot of people' with her position that a wall is immoral

'I think the Democrats should be ashamed of themselves. In all fairness to the Democrats, many of them want the wall, and I see it

'he insisted.'They're just dying to say what they want to say, but they can't say it as well as they would be able to if they were allowed to do it

' GOP lawmakers have joined their Democratic colleagues in saying that Trump should adhere by the legislative process rather than taking matters into his own hands with a national emergency declaration

Trump suggested Friday that it is his belief that by taking the wall off the table, he could move along immigration reform discussions

'Actually having a national emergency does help the process. It would certainly help the process

What would help a lot is if the Democrats could actually be honest. They're not being honest,' Trump accused on Friday afternoon

'I like to hear what they talk about in their rooms when they go back.' Democrats who worry they're in for a border security lesson on Tuesday night, may want to prepare for a lecture on late-term abortion from the president, as well

Trump is expected to rail against bills in Virginia and New York that would relax legal restrictions on the practice in his State of the Union address, the White House indicated on Friday

Counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway suggested, in response to a question from DailyMail

com on the theme of Trump's speech, that the president would denounce the measures in the primetime address

'I'm not going to tell you what's in the speech – I've seen it – but maybe he'll ask Democrats, in view of the new news, why do you object to the Pain-Capable bill that non-partisan scientists say a baby can feel pain after the twentieth week,' Conway said

Politico also reported that White House sources were saying it would be a major topic

Conway said that Trump would be highlighting bipartisan efforts like criminal justice reform and praising the economic gains the nation has seen under his presidency

But she indicated that he'd also tackle the controversial issue of late-term abortion

'Now we've got, we've got governors, and state legislators in many places, but most illustratively, and recently, in New York in Virginia, saying that a baby can have his or her life snuffed out of it, out of him or her

after 20 weeks.I mean this is who we are as Americans?' she asked.Trump said Thursday that a theme of his State of the Union address will be 'unity' — and he will praise Republicans for sticking by him over the course of his last year in office

'I think it's unification, I think it's industry, I think it's about the people that you see right here,' he told reporters from the Oval Office

Trump quickly pivoted to an attack on Democrats for refusing his pleas for a border wall and then back to the topic of unity in the next sentence as he gave reporters their first look at the Tuesday speech

'The problem is the Democrats, you know when they say, we don't want to build, as an example, we don't want to build a wall, because it doesn't work or because it's immoral,' he charged

Bringing up Pelosi's claim that a wall is 'immoral,' he said that allowing Americans to die at the hand of violent immigrants is also unacceptable

'Well it's also immoral, the people that come into our country that shouldn't be here and kill people

That's immoral, too. That's a lot more immoral,' he claimed with no build-up.He added, as he got back on topic: 'But I really think it's going to be a speech that is going to cover a lot of territory but part of it is going to be unity

' Asked by DailyMail.com about the assault on the opposing party, seconds after he said he wanted to spark unity, Conway said Friday, 'Well the president, of course, is going to be a unifying figure

He is the leader of the country.'And he is certainly the leader of the country at the State of the Union

It's his opportunity once a year to look the American people in the eye, cut out the middle man – respectfully, until the panels talk afterwards – to convey to them, many things they don't hear throughout the year

' She mentioned the January jobs report that dropped earlier on Friday.Companies created more jobs the first month of the year than forecasters expected

'The record of accomplishment, the facts and figures of his great economy, today with 304,000 new jobs created, well above the line of 70,000 that were projected

So, he will say things like that, showing the economy's strong,' she said.As part of his bid to spark 'unity' she said he will talk about criminal justice reform, prescription drug legislation and other issues on which 'Republicans and Democrats have proven they can come together and work toward a common purpose of serving the American people

' 'He believes border security is a non-partisan issue that should have bipartisan solutions,' she added

'And I don't think that the speaker of the House, respectfully, sounds very unifying, most days she sounds like a cable news pundit

She doesn't sound like a unifying figure.' Conway said that Pelosi, who represents liberal San Francisco in Congress should broaden her own message and 'get a little bit better control of her temper and her chamber

' 'And those who don't show up for the State of the Union, that's on them, not on the president

They need to explain to their constituents why they thought so little of the people they represent that they refused to sit in the hallowed chamber in the Capitol and listen to our president come forward and try to call for bipartisan action on any number of measures

That's on them, that's not on him.' No Democrats have said so far that they are boycotting the speech, but many refused to sit in the chamber and listen to Trump in 2018 - some over comments he made about immigrants from 's***hole nations' seeking refuge in America

The president and Democrats are still clashing over the issue that looms large ahead of a Feb

15 deadline to fund the Department of Homeland Security and other major agencies. They're also butting heads on Trump's foreign policy

The Senate moved forward with legislation to rebuke his Middle East policy moves this week

They want a review of his troop withdrawal in Syria and an assessment of a possible pullout in Afghanistan

Conway said national security and foreign policy would be major pillars of Trump's address on Tuesday, as well

'The president spends a good part of everyday thinking about the nation's intelligence, security, foreign policy certainly, "endless wars" as he calls them in places like Syria and Afghanistan, where he thinks that we have spent enormous treasure, most of all, our young men and women who have perished there

And of course he will be addressing that in the State of the Union, as well as domestic issues,' she added

Democrats have selected former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams to give their response to Trump

He said he hopes she does a good job and has 'respect' for her on Thursday, despite referring to her as 'not qualified' to hold office last year as he tried to bring her down

'I respect her.I don't know her.I haven't met her, but I hope she does a good job,' Trump said of the Democratic politician

He mentioned that he doesn't the Georgian who he worked to to keep out of office on a personal level

'I campaigned against Stacey Abrams, I know that President Obama campaigned for her

Michelle Obama campaigned for her, and Oprah campaigned for her, and all Brian [Kemp] had was me, and he won fairly easily, you know fairly easily

So, I hope that she does a good job.' Abrams garnered national attention in her bid to become the first female, African-American governor of Georgia in a contest that went down to the wire

Democratic star power flooded the state to support her, including Oprah Winfrey and former President Barack Obama

Abrams lost to Kemp by 1 percent of the vote. She is the first African-American woman to deliver a response to the State of the Union, a speech that has traditionally served as a springboard for higher office

Wear It For Good: SNEAKERS. (Ep.3) - Duration: 15:30.

As I think about the fact that...

that a lot of people now, think I'm a shoe...

They didn't know I was a tennis player

and they don't even know that I exist necessarily.

But...they like the shoe.

Before the white sneaker became so popular

that a lot of people forgot where it draws its name from

it was something entirely different

Let me explain.

The story of the sneakers we are all wearing right now

started in the late 18th century, London.

Back, then there wasn't even a way to tell the left shoe

from the right.

But, one thing was for certain.

They had a high rubber sole

to keep the feet dry and away from water.

Because of this high rubber sole,

the shoes came to be known as Plimsoles.

This borrowed term comes from the demarcation

line of how deep a boat can be sunk in water

before it's in danger of sinking.

Around that same time, the US Rubber Company

came out with a very similar design

which they named Keds.

The Keds had a more comfortable Brazilian

rubber sole with a canvas top.

By 1917, these shoes entered mass production

and people started calling them sneakers.

They were so silent that you couldn't hear

the wearer approaching.

Therefore, the term sneakers.

In today's time, a mere 100 years later,

the white sneaker is a staple of everyone's wardrobe.

It's hard to estimate how many pairs

are produced every year,

as not all manufacturers

release the number of sales.

But Nike, Adidas and Under Armour sell around

1.5 billion pairs of sneakers per year, in the US alone.

It's safe to presume, that globally that number

is at least double.

The average U.S. male owns 12 pairs

of shoes in a year.

While the average female has 27 pairs.

With fast fashion and never-ending trends

decreasing the time a pair of sneakers is worn

before being discarded,

It's clear that we need a solution and we need it fast.

Before I tell you how you can care and get more mileage

out of your beloved sneaker,

let's look at how we got to a world dominated by it.

One of the most enduring and iconic sneaker design

was introduced by Marquis Converse in 1917.

He produced the first shoe made just for basketball

called Converse All-Stars.

The shoe wasn't too far off in the design

from the Plimsoles or Keds of those years.

What was unique about them

was their association with athletes

such as Chuck Taylor.

Chuck Taylor, a basketball player, endorsed the shoe

and they became known as the Chuck Taylor All-Stars.

By the 1930s, the sneakers would become

the most sold athletic shoes ever

with over 600 Million pairs sold.

While the U.S. sneaker market

was being dominated by Converse,

in Europe, Adi Dassler set out to break records

with his own invention.

At the 1936 Olympics, track star Jesse Owens

crossed the finish line first

four times in Adidas sneakers.

His spirit speed and four Olympics' gold medals

pushed the sneaker even further into popular culture.

By the 1950s, athletic inspired sneakers

began influencing fashion.

James Dean's huge fan following

transformed everything he was wearing

into a cult must-have and

so, the sneakers he wore on the set of

Rebel Without a Cause,

a pair of white Converse Jack Purcells

brought the white sneakers to the attention

of the regular fashion enthusiast.

The overall white sneaker champion of the 60s

is the adidas Stan Smith.

This white tennis shoe's classic cut, comfort and

understatement makes it easy to adapt to any wardrobe.

So, it's easy to see why it's a classic

that will always make a comeback.

In terms of serious sales, the sneaker really took off

in 1984, when Michael Jordan signed a contract

to wear a Nike shoe called Air Jordan,

the most famous basketball sneaker

ever made.

Although Jordan retired from the NBA,

his shoes continue to be bestsellers.

Some editions of the Air Jordan

have become cult classics among sneaker heads.

With some pairs being traded for thousands of dollars.

The competition between brands such as

Nike, Reebok and Adidas

changed the way sneakers looked,

adding wild colours and even doing away with laces.

Sneakers began to be produced for every sport,

including walking, skateboarding, and cross-training.

In the early 90s,

the growing public obsession with white sneakers

increased as they appeared on film stars

such as Tom Hanks in Big and Forrest Gump,

and Michael J. Fox, in Back to the Future.

Around the same time, sensing the technical

advancements in the production of sneakers

can only take a brand so far,

adidas entered pop culture by getting

associated with rock stars and hip hop artists.

Run DMC's love for their white

adidas superstars sneaker

even inspired their famous My Adidas song.

The colourful 90's turn sneakers into heavily branded

and brightly coloured sport shoes,

making them hard-to-impossible to wear at the office

or at a formal event.

But, as you have probably guessed

by what we are wearing to work today,

that was about to change.

Prada was the brand that brought this change

to the fashion industry.

In luxury sportswear, the brand was a real trendsetter,

launching a sneaker with its debut

Prada Sport Collection from 1997.

It introduced the humble sneaker to the world

of high fashion.

And since then,

every designer has followed suit.

The popularization of the sneaker as an everyday shoe

has brought some attention to the way

the shoes are produced, and at what cost.

Although Nike has been using sweatshops

to mass-produce its increasingly affordable shoes

since 1970, the media caught on.

In the 1990s, Nike's manufacturing scandal

took hold of the brand's image

and exposed the ugly truth

about the real cost of sneakers.

Of course, Nike was not the only brand

that used sweatshops or child labor

to produce sneakers at that time.

But, the market understood that this cannot continue

as it was.

Multiple brands such as Stella McCartney and Veja

have made it their business to produce sneakers

made with biodegradable materials,

that are ethically made and sustainable.

Other mass market brands continue even today

to create cheap, white sneakers

through child slavery,

mindless destruction of natural resources,

animal cruelty,

and constant pollution.

Now that we know how the white sneaker

became so popular,

let's take a look at how it is produced

and at what cost?

Sneakers are made from a combination of materials

that belong to its two halves:

the upper part and the sole.

The sole has three layers:

insole, midsole and outsole.

The insole is a thin layer of manmade

Ethylene Vinyl Acetate or EVA.

EVA is a byproduct of plastic and is not biodegradable.

Although it can be recycled,

this never happens,

as manufacturers don't want to shoulder the additional costs

of collecting all sneakers

and breaking them down into their reusable parts.

The midsole's purpose is cushioning.

It's very rare that the midsole consists of something else

other than Polyurethane or Polyurethane Foam.

PU is not biodegradable as well,

as it's also obtained from plastic.

Lastly, the outsole is usually made out of rubber.

If the outsole is made out of natural rubber,

sourced from trees, then this is a better alternative

as its biodegradable.

However, as sourcing natural rubber takes time,

and it can cause more expenses to the manufacturer,

most brands prefer to use

chemically synthesised rubber

by mixing in a byproduct of petroleum.

You can think of this as a softer car tire,

in both the way it acts,

and in the way it will be forever present

in landfills, as it will not biodegrade.

The average sneaker is made out of

around 20 different pieces.

This means that the materials used in its production

can vary from metal to plastic,

to synthetics, leather and so on.

One of the most problematic

materials is leather.

If you would like to learn more

about how leather is produced,

please take a look at this video.

The short story is that leather is produced

through animal cruelty

and is treated with hard chemicals

that cause workers cancers.

The tanning process which brings natural leather

its flexibility takes a lot of chemicals and water waste.

The combination of these two turn rivers around

the tanning factories into some of the most

environmentally dangerous ecosystems in the world.

It leads to the death of vegetation,

animal, and human life as well.

Most recently, brands like Adidas have tried

to cut down on this unsustainable

manufacturing processes by recycling ocean plastic

or 3D printing their sneakers.

Both options come with a high label price

and are only sought after by early adaptors,

or collectors, not to the mass market.

I know it's hard to think of our most comfortable shoes

ever as one of the worst environmental

nightmares we face today.

But there are some things that we can do right now

to wear them for good.

And, first of all, be kind on yourself.

Your past purchases are in the past

and nothing can change that.

But what you can try to do right now

is to hold onto your existing sneakers

for as long as possible.

Sneakers are built tough.

They were made to take

the continuous beatings of vigorous exercise.

They can withstand water, cold and heat

So, they were made to be almost indestructible.

So here is what you can do right now

to hold on to your sneakers for longer.

By wearing your sneakers in rotation with other shoes,

you give time to the sole to recover

its initial cushioning state.

Wearing the same pair

more than twice a week is not recommended.

If you would like your sneakers

to maintain their original design as much as possible,

consider stuffing them with dry paper

when you are not wearing them.

You can also put them in a cloth bag

or keep them in a dry dark place.

It might happen that you get caught in the rain

every now and then, but don't go out

wearing your sneakers when it's raining or snowing.

Do not machine dry them.

It's better to just wipe them dry

and put a few packs of silica gel inside them.

You can also use some types of water repellent

substances that will make sure they stay dry for longer.

There are multiple solutions to bringing

your white sneakers back to their original colour.

The hardest part to maintain is the sole of the shoe

and there are a bunch of whitening products

for this purpose as well.

For example

Mr. Cleans Magic Eraser comes to mind now.

Most likely, the first part of the sneaker

that is going to give out

is the sole.

You can actually purchase

original soles off eBay or other online stores.

And take your sneakers to your local repair service

and see what can be done.

If you provide them with a replacement sole

it's actually quite easy to fix.

Or if you have for example, two pairs of sneakers

that are both in need of major repairs,

see if your

local repair service can turn them into a new pair.

Most charities will accept all sneakers

if they are still wearable.

However, chances are that if you got the most

out of your sneakers by doing all of the above,

it's just time to recycle them.

Nike has a recycling program

that accepts all brands of sneakers.

They turn them into a material called Grind

and 60% of that material is then used

to make new apparel, also basketball courts,

running yards and other surfaces.

And lastly, if you absolutely have to buy a new pair

of sneakers, know that there are sustainable alternatives

out there.

More and more brands use vegan leather

made from plants, mushroom and cork.

They also find a way to incorporate

natural rubber and other natural materials

that ensure that the sneaker will not populate

landfills for thousands of years to come.

There are already

billions of pairs in these landfills.

Let's not add more.

And now I have some questions for you.

What is your favourite sneaker

and how long did it last you?

And how did you make it last so long?

Let's discuss it in the comments

and learn from each other.

I hope you liked this video

and found it interesting, and useful.

And if you did,

please press like,

and don't forget to share it with your friends.

What are Home Remedies for Acne and Pimples? - Duration: 2:28.

What are Home Remedies for Acne?

Acne is a skin condition characterized by pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads on the

skin.

Acne is the result of clogged pores, which cause the hair follicles and sebaceous glands

to become inflamed.

Areas that are particularly susceptible to acne include the chest, back, shoulders, neck,

and face.

Although tempting, acne pimples should never be squeezed.

Squeezing acne pimples increases the chance of scarring and can cause pits to form in

the skin.

Instead, there are several home remedies that can be used to prevent acne and to treat it

once it has developed.

In some cases, acne is the result of food allergies.

In such cases, preventative measures are obvious – avoid the food and avoid having acne outbreaks.

Poor digestion can also lead to acne, as can failure to drink enough water.

Therefore, a well-balanced diet and drinking six to eight glasses of water per day can

help prevent acne and can help clear it up once it has developed.

Cleanliness is also a factor in the development of acne.

The skin should be kept clean and free of bacteria at all times.

It is helpful to wash the skin with antibacterial soap twice a day.

In addition, bed linens should be cleaned regularly in order to avoid clogging pores

with oil, dead skin, and cosmetic products.

To further prevent acne and to help eliminate it once it has developed, it is helpful to

use soap with aloe vera oil.

Aloe vera oil is an excellent natural skin healer that has been proven to be beneficial

when applied to the skin on a regular basis.

A steam shower is also helpful in the fight against acne.

If this is not possible, a good alternative is to boil a pot of water and place one's

head over the vapors for about five minutes.

Alternatively, one can place a warm washcloth directly on the face.

In all cases, the pores will open up and become easier to clean.

With the pores open, blackheads can be safely squeezed out.

Taking vitamins and other supplements is also beneficial in the fight against acne.

A multi-vitamin is a good choice for a person with acne, as is taking two teaspoons of brewer's

yeast and 400 milligrams of chromium every day.

Megan's Story - Advice for Parents - Duration: 6:32.

I hope from listening to my story that you understand why children send photos

and the pressures around this. I also hope that you talk to your children

about the issue and let them know that you're there for support if they ever

need it.

I'd just moved to a new school after being really badly bullied at my

previous school and so I sort of moved to make a new fresh start away from

everything that I'd already known. So when I moved to this new school and I

had all these friends and people actually wanting to talk to me and

wanting to add me on all these new apps that were coming out like Instagram,

Snapchat and Facebook, I can remember being like amazed that I had all these new

followers. I actually kind of felt popular for once in my life which was

something that I never thought I'd ever feel. But it was complete whirlwind that

I didn't really know who I was adding a lot of the time even though I knew they

went to the school, this didn't they necessarily mean that I knew them

personally or that I was in any of the classes, or that I'd even spoken to them

before. I started contact with a boy who I knew went to my school in the year

above me. During this time we built up a friendship. I felt like I knew quite a

lot about him. Obviously my phone is constantly in my hand so we were

messaging at least four or five six times an hour,

and you do sort of build up trust in that time and I'd never had

friends before so I wasn't quite sure what trust was.

But yeah, after about two weeks he started asking me to send photos that

weren't just selfies, they were intimate photos of myself. At first I first started to

say no, because I didn't feel comfortable with that. It wasn't something that I

wanted to do, but I looked around me and I saw all my friends talking about it at

school and how they were sending photos to boys, and so it was sort of normalised.

As I said my friends always in my hand the pressure, was constant he was texting

every single day asking for it and it just didn't stop. So eventually I gave in

to the pressure and I did send a photo of myself with no clothes on, and it's

something that a photo that I wouldn't want my family or my friends to see.

After sort of an hour I got a Snapchat back from him

and when I saw I had a Snapchat I was like "ah yes,

finally he's replied, maybe he's just been busy,

or maybe he opened it and his phone died. I don't really know what was happening

but I was just happy to see that he had eventually replied to me. But when I

opened it up it turned out that it wasn't him. Instead it was a face of a

girl that was in my year group that I knew and it just sort of said "haha I've

got you". First sort of thing that went through my head was confusion, like has

she got his phone somehow or has he lost it? But the penny sort of dropped

that she had been using his account but I just couldn't think about anything

else. I can remember things being on TV, like one of my favourite programs in it

just being a complete blur and just being blinded to the world around me. I

just felt completely ashamed and embarrassed that someone who I didn't

intend to see the photo had seen it, and so I thought the best thing to do would

be to turn my phone off, to ignore her, ignore the social media world, turn it

off and go to sleep and hope the problem went away but that's not really what

happens in the social media world. So the next day I got to school and I was

absolutely dreading going in but my best friend sort of came and found me and

said look this has happened everybody's seen it, I've seen it, it's all around the

school. Everybody's got it on their phone, like what have you done and why have you

done this and why didn't you sort of tell me last night?

I just felt like everybody's eyes were on me, everybody was staring at me I was

just saying paranoid that everybody was talking about me and I can remember

just being in the school toilets crying my eyes out and my friend just

dragging me by my hand to go see my tutor and I just had got to my tutor and

poured my heart out and told her everything that had happened because I

just couldn't deal with it. At that point if my tutor sort of looked at me really

shocked and sort of just shook her head and was like "oh Megan why have you done

this?" Like sort of like disappointed but caring disappointed. At that moment when

I sort of in the staff room I can remember, but I can't really remember too

much of it because my mind sort of had a bit of a blank, but I can just remember

being unconsolably crying. I can just remember being sat opposite everyone and

it just felt like everyone was interrogating me and that I was in the

wrong and I was the one that done something really bad, but I just had been

stupid.

Over time I sort of used Childline's online chat service to help me through

stuff because I needed to speak to someone that sort of didn't know and I

just go online and speak to Childline and they gave me some advice and they

talk stuff through. I just felt like if a problem was shared with with even them

then it's a problem halved. So to sort of get myself through it I just focused on

the friends that I knew were true to me, and the people that I've been there for

me and didn't judge me after their incident happened. Doing anything that I

could to distract myself and also better myself after that and just try and work

hard and create stuff that I'm proud of, after doing something that I wasn't so

proud of. Parents, make sure your children know they can talk to you about these

sorts of issues. If you don't feel comfortable talking about it imagine how

they feel. You need to support them.

An A for the U.S. Economy, but Failing Grades for Trumps Policies The New York Times - Duration: 3:36.

An A for the U.S. Economy, but Failing Grades for Trumps Policies The New York Times

By Justin Wolfers

When President Trump delivers his State of the Union address on Tuesday, he can quite justifiably say that the state of the economy is good.

Unemployment is low, inflation is muted and growth has continued unabated for nearly 10 years. As a college professor, Im often drawn to giving letter grades, and would give the United States economy an A , with the potential for a better grade if the economic gains had been distributed more evenly.

But Mr. Trump controls economic policy, not the economy, and so a fairer report card would also assess his actual policies.

To provide a nonpartisan appraisal, Ive reviewed — liberals and conservatives — run by the University of Chicago. What is startling is that the economists are nearly unanimous in concluding that Mr. Trumps policies are destructive. That is why many economists are uneasy about his presidency, even though the economy earns solid grades.

Mr. Trumps protectionist impulses place him squarely at odds with the economic wisdom that tariffs are harmful. Worse, by imposing tariffs on like aluminum and steel Mr. Trumps trade policy has also damaged the competitiveness of American manufacturers. None of the economists taking part in the agreed with the claim that these tariffs would improve Americans welfare, and all of them said global supply chains than they would have been in the past.

The United States started a trade war with China and China quickly retaliated, raising tariffs on American made goods. Mr. Trump also created needless uncertainty with his threat to rip up the North American Free Trade Agreement that binds the United States, Canada and Mexico. The threat yielded a substitute deal that market economists will do little more than replicate the previous one, and it is unclear that Congress will pass it.

Criticism of Mr. Trumps protectionist instincts is widespread. When he that he was Tariff Man, financial . An analysis conducted by the presidents own Council of Economic Advisers has reportedly that his tariffs will reduce economic growth. Even by Mr. Trumps own preferred metric, the balance of trade, his policy has failed: The trade deficit has to a .

The logic of fiscal policy is straightforward: In good times, the government should spend less, so that in bad times it can afford to spend more and tax less, helping to support an ailing economy. When private sector demand falls, government picks up the slack.

On this score, Mr. Trumps fiscal policy is a colossal failure. His signature achievement is a dollar 1.5 trillion tax cut that provided stimulus when, arguably, it was least needed. As a result, the is atypically high for a healthy economy, and rising government debt will make it hard for fiscal policy to provide a boost when the next downturn hits.

Mr. Trump might argue that the point of the tax cut wasnt to provide a short term stimulus, but rather to promote long term economic growth. However, economists say that it will fail to do that, too. In a before the bill was passed, all but one expert said the tax cut wouldnt lead gross domestic product to be substantially higher a decade from now. Darrell Duffie, the lone dissenter, said it would boost growth, but he added that whether the overall tax plan is distributionally fair is another matter.

The problem, according to Daron Acemoglu, a prominent macroeconomist, is that while simplification of the tax code could be beneficial, that effect would most likely be more than offset by its highly regressive nature. Recent data support this pessimism, as the much promised investment boom the tax cut was supposed to deliver appears not to have materialized.

It is worth noting that the one part of Mr. Trumps platform that received a — his promise of infrastructure spending — has languished, despite the possibility of bipartisan support.

For a president, monetary policy should be simple: Appoint good people, and let the Federal Reserve do its job. Mr. Trump has got half of this right. Jerome Powell, his pick for Fed chairman, has so far proven to be adept. In a , 43 percent of economists gave Mr. Powells leadership an A, and 51 percent gave him a B with the remaining 6 percent giving him a C . Mr. Trumps other Fed appointments have been mainstream, yielding a cast of policymakers that Jeb Bush might have appointed had he been elected president.

But Mr. Trump has dragged down his grade in this category by meddling in ways that have needlessly complicated the Feds job. Most industrialized countries, including the United States, have generally insulated monetary policy from political pressure, believing that such independence helps policymakers deliver low and stable inflation. Yet Mr. Trump has Mr. Powell for not setting interest rates lower, and has reportedly the possibility of firing him. The president is playing a self defeating game, because he is making it harder for Mr. Powell to deliver low rates without appearing to have been bullied by Mr. Trump.

Mr. Trump isnt just pushing against one or two threads of economic consensus. Instead, his program is an almost complete repudiation of the orthodoxies endorsed by Democratic and Republican economists.

Put the pieces together, and all of this presents a puzzle: If economic policy is so bad, why is the economy doing so well?

Perhaps it reflects good luck rather than good judgment. Mr. Trumps luck was to inherit an economy that had been on a steadily improving glide path since around 2010. Charting nearly any economic statistic shows that todays economic strength represents a continuation of that trend.

Even if Mr. Trump doesnt deserve credit for this trajectory, he should get some credit for not knocking the economy off this path. Unless, of course, the real explanation is that the president on economic outcomes.

The more frightening explanation is that the downside of Mr. Trumps policies are yet to become evident. The chaos of his administrations policy process has created uncertainty and probably scared off some investors, although their absence is difficult to measure. In addition, Mr. Trumps unfunded tax cuts are creating a debt that future generations will have to repay. And by undermining the Feds independence, he may have made it less effective at fighting inflation.

Cutting regulations in the financial sector may help big banks today, but it could increase the chances of future financial crises. Eliminating environmental regulations has probably improved results for some businesses while speeding climate change. And while impeding immigration may have reduced competition for jobs, worry that in the longer run, reducing the number of immigrants will lead to less innovation and growth.

Of course, I should admit a final possibility: Perhaps Mr. Trump has got it right, and the economists have gotten it all wrong. As a card carrying economist, I dont believe this, but it seems that, in equal measure, Mr. Trump doesnt believe what economists say, either.
