 Italian website Calciomercato claims the defender will not return to the Serie A because he's expected to join the Tyneside club on deadline day of the mid-season transfer window

 Barreca will join the Magpies on loan until the end of the season with the right of redemption

 It is explained the deal is expected to be completed in a 'matter of hours' so that the player can make a move to St James' Park
