Pelosi and Schumer: Border emergency is 'unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist' - Duration: 7:03.

Democratic leaders in Congress condemned President Donald Trump on Friday as he announced a national emergency declaration that gives him the power to build a long-promised border wall with money lawmakers never earmarked for that purpose

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer claimed in a joint statement that there is no 'crisis' on the U

S.-Mexico border, and threatened to defend the spending power of Congress with every tool at their command

'The President's unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist does great violence to our Constitution and makes America less safe, stealing from urgently needed defense funds for the security of our military and our nation,' they said

'This is plainly a power grab by a disappointed President, who has gone outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process

' Trump said in a Rose Garden press event that he would leverage about $6.5billion in existing Defense Department and other funds, along with $1

4billion Congress appropriated for his wall this week.White House officials said earlier in the day on a conference call that the money would allow for the construction of at least 234 miles of steel bollard walls

The Democratic National Committee bolstered the case for opposition following Trump's speech, sending reporters a video clip of Trump conceding that his emergency declaration isn't the only path to fulfilling his signature campaign promise

'On the wall, they skimped,' he said Friday of Congress's decision to give him less than one-quarter of the $5

7billion he had asked for.'So I did – I was successful in that sense.' 'But I want to do it faster,' he explained in the Rose Garden

'I could do the wall over a longer period of time.I didn't need to do this. But I'd rather do it much faster

And I don't have to do it for the election.I have already done a lot of wall for the election, 2020

' Pelosi and Schumer said the moves 'clearly violate the Congress's exclusive power of the purse, which our Founders enshrined in the Constitution

The Congress will defend our constitutional authorities in the Congress, in the Courts, and in the public, using every remedy available

' They claimed that if Trump is permitted to tilt the balance of power toward the Executive Branch of government, it 'would fundamentally alter the balance of powers, inconsistent with our Founders' vision

' 'The President is not above the law.The Congress cannot let the President shred the Constitution

' More than 50 previous presidential emergency declarations have survived sporadic complaints from Congress in the past, including a dozen by President Barack Obama

The U.S.Supreme Court has never invalidated one.House Democrats began a push Friday to call for a Joint Resolution, using votes in the House and Senate, to override the president

It's a move permitted under the National Emergencies Act, a post-Watergate law that Trump used on Friday

Trumping Trump, however, would require supermajorities in both halves of Congress – an impossibly tall order

'We call upon our Republican colleagues to join us to defend the Constitution,' Schumer and Pelosi said Friday, likely referring to a resolution introduced by Reps

Joaquin Castro and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.The path to challenge Trump in federal court is more direct and better understood, including by the president himself

He complained Friday that Democrats will use the liberal Ninth Circuit courts to attack his decision as an extra-constitutional abuse, despite the relative commonality of emergency declarations since the 1976 enactment of the law permitting them

'I expect to be sued.I shouldn't be sued,' he said.'Very rarely do you get sued when you do [a] national emergency

' 'We have an invasion of drugs and criminals coming into our country that we stop but it is very hard to stop,' he said, predicting the impact of miles of new border walls

'With a wall it would be very easy.So I think that we will be very successful in court

prince-ly sum Who is Saudi Prince Mohammad bin Salman and is he buying Man Utd from the Glazer famil - Duration: 5:37.

THE richest football club in the world could be about to get even richer, with Man United set for takeover talks with Saudi Arabia's most important Prince

According to Sun sources, Mohammad bin Salman, who is worth a staggering £850bn, is hoping to challenge Abu Dhabi-backed Man City by purchasing the Red Devils

Who is Mohammad Bin Salman?  Mohammad bin Salman is the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia - the country's second most important position after the King

He is the son of King Salman, but is in reality the most important and influential person in the Kingdom, given that his father suffers from Alzheimer's

Bin Salman obtained the position in summer 2017 after a power struggle with cousin Mohammad Bin Nayef, who was initially named Crown Prince but subsequently removed from all positions

The 33-year-old also serves as the country's Minister of Defence and deputy prime minister

Since taking over as Crown Prince, Bin Salman has launched a huge anti-corruption campaign, arresting around 500 people, closing 2,000 domestic accounts and targeting cash assets worth around £600bn

He has also declared that he wants Saudi Arabia to become a country of moderate Islam, slowly introducing reforms such as allowing women to drive and introducing cinemas to the conservative state

But he has been criticised for increasing restrictions on press freedom, particularly in the wake of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul

Bin Salman married Princess Sarah bint Mashhoor in 2008 and has four children with her

Is Mohammad Bin Salman taking over Manchester United?  It is not known whether Bin Salman would personally take over at Man Utd but it is believed he would back either a Saudi state bid or one from a prominent individual within the country

The Glazers would demand around £3bn for control of the club, but the Saudis have the money and are reportedly willing to either buy a stake or take over completely

It is believed a bid could come as early as this summer with the Saudis reportedly hoping to be in control by next season

And SunSport revealed that unless the British government intervenes, the Premier League is powerless to stop the Saudis investing in Man United

Saudi Arabia has already made investments in sport, bringing both WWE and the George Groves vs Callum Smith World Boxing Super Series Final to the country

Does Mohammad Bin Salman have any other investments in football?  So far, Saudi Arabia's influence in world football has been relatively marginal, with Emirati and Qatari investment taking centre stage with the purchases of Man City and PSG respectively

Under Bin Salman, the country's biggest play in football has been banning Qatar's beIN SPORTS from broadcasting in the country

BeoutQ, a firm allegedly based in Saudi Arabia, has been pirating the beIN SPORTS coverage of the Premier League

But another Saudi Prince, Musa'ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, does own a 50 per cent stake in Sheffield United

Why Fowler is worried over which Liverpool will face Bayern - Duration: 1:33.

Another break for Liverpool – another chance for them to lose their rhythm in my eyes

Look, I must admit with all the injuries they had, they'll have been able to use the time off to get some players back fit and get their training organised, and work on things

Yet you know my feelings on momentum and playing. I hated not being involved in games when I was a player, I hated being rested

I'd much rather win and take the energy and rhythm from that, . just as Manchester City have done in recent weeks

So I'm a bit apprehensive about which Liverpool we will see next week against Bayern Munich and Manchester United

There was absolutely no doubt they lost a bit of rhythm after the last break, which cost them points against Leicester and West Ham

They looked a little rusty. I hope the same thing doesn't happen this time. But I will say Jurgen Klopp will be aware of that, and will look at what worked and what didn't at the last training camp

They'll also have the Kop in full European night voice too, which tends to blow the cobwebs away – so maybe I don't have to worry so much about momentum this time!

Intern on his first day at work is among the five slain in Aurora - Daily News - Duration: 5:08.

Police have identified the five victims who were killed in a workplace shooting in a factory in Aurora, Illinois

Shooter Gary Martin, 45, opened fire on Friday, shortly after he was terminated from his job of 15 years at the Henry Pratt Co

industrial valve manufacturing plant, police said. Martin died in a police shootout

Slain were Human Resources Manager Clayton Parks, HR Intern Trevor Wehner, mold operator Russell Beyer, stockroom attendant and forklift operator Vincente Juarez, and plant manager Josh Pinkard

Wehner, the intern, was a 22-year-old student at Northern Illinois University. He was starting his first day at Henry Pratt when he was killed

according to a family friend. Share this article Share The ages of the other victims were not immediately clear

A sixth male employee at the plant was also injured in the shooting. All of the victims were found dead at the scene in the same close area of the plant, according to police

Six police officers were also injured in the shooting, but none of their injuries are life-threatening

The six wounded officers ranged in age from 23 to 54. Martin likely knew he was about to be fired and brought a gun into the meeting, opening fire on all present as soon as he was given the news, Aurora police Chief Kristen Ziman said Saturday

She said she doesn't know exactly what he had been told or why he was fired.Ziman says Martin pulled the gun and began shooting right after he was fired

She says three of the five Henry Pratt Co. co-workers he killed were in the room with him and the other two were just outside

The chief also released new details about Martin's criminal background and the weapon in the shooting

Martin should have been legally barred from purchasing a gun due to his felony record

He had a 1995 conviction for aggravated assault for stabbing a woman in Marshall County, Mississippi

However, in January 2014, Martin applied for and was issued an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOI) card, which is required to own or purchase a gun in Illinois

On March 6 2014, Martin applied to purchase a handgun at a licensed dealer in Aurora

Five days later, he took possession of a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber revolver, the same type of gun described as the weapon in Sunday's shooting

On March 16 2014, Martin applied for a Concealed Carry permit in an unknown location

He was fingerprinted during the background check, and his prior felony conviction came to light during the background check

At the discovery, Martin's CCW application was rejected, and his FOI card was revoked

He apparently retained possession of the handgun, however. Ziman was unable to explain why the felony conviction did not prevent Martin from obtaining a FOI card in the first place, merely saying it was possible that it would not have been discovered until the more rigorous CCW check

Martin's latest arrest was in 2017 in Oswego, Illinois, on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property

He had a history of six arrests in Aurora, where he lived, police said. The charges in Aurora included traffic and domestic battery-related incidents

His most recent arrest in Aurora was in 2008 for violating an order of protection

This Handheld Steamer Has Near-Perfect Reviews and Is So Easy to Use - US News - Duration: 7:04.

Ironing is so annoying. There, we said it! Sometimes we'd rather just buy new clothes than have to iron what we already own

When we're ironing, we need to lay our clothing out just right to avoid making wrinkles and creases even worse, and then repeat the process about 5,000 times as we move on to other parts of the garment

It's so difficult to get in between buttons or embellishments, and even if we do, we're worried the heat will warp or burn them

Good luck with anything mesh, because an iron will burn a hole right through it. We may or may not know from experience

We're going to need even more luck for curtains and bedding. We could go on, but we'd rather get to the point, and it's a good one

With Black and Decker's Advanced Handheld Steamer, we can take our iron and chuck it right into the trash without looking back

Not only does this steamer heat up in approximately 45 seconds, but shoppers are confidently saying it's "faster than ironing

" It's faster than other steamers, too, producing 45% more steam than the leading handheld steamer! We've hit the jackpot, but instead of gold, it's blue and white

To get started, all we have to do is remove the water tank, fill it up and turn the steamer on

Once the power light stops blinking, we'll be ready to steam. We can lock the steam trigger in place for continuous steaming as we drag the mouth of the device over our clothes, curtains, sheets and even walls

We'll see wrinkles and stains almost magically disappear in seconds. One shopper said they cleaned water streaks off their bathroom wall with just a few swipes of their steamer! We can also hit the steam trigger to generate powerful bursts for tougher spots that require a little extra love

This almost sounds, dare we say, fun?  This steamer is lightweight and compact, unlike giant professional steam machines that are often taller than we are

This makes it easy to hold and easy to store! It's a great size for traveling, so we don't have to fret too much about our clothes being packed too tightly in our suitcase or duffel bag

We can fix any wrinkles with ease, with the added bonus of deodorizing anything that may have taken on a bit of a musty smell, especially something that just does not fit in a washing machine, like a mattress or couch, no matter how hard we push

Even though this steamer is compact, it has a 10-foot long cord, so we won't be suddenly pulled back like an overly-excited dog on a leash if we need to steam a long gown or wide shower curtain, for example

This steamer comes with two extra attachments, one for upholstery and one for delicate fabrics

These are great for linens, pillows and anything that is sensitive to heat. One shopper said they use the attachments for removing fur from clothes, which is an endless struggle for pet owners everywhere

This steamer packs 1400 watts of power, so it's great to know that we can control how we use it for different items and areas of concern

Know that moment when, three hours after leaving home, we're suddenly hit with the thought, "Oh my gosh, did I leave the iron on?" With this steamer, that moment of panic is totally eliminated

It has auto shut-off technology, so it will automatically power down after 15 minutes of inactivity

We don't have to worry about opening our front door to a sauna in our living room when we get back home, which sounds almost nice, but would get old rather quickly

Also keeping us safe and sound is the grip base of this steamer, which stops the steamer from sliding around like a kid at their first waterpark

This means we don't have to worry about the device falling over too easily and drenching us in boiling water, which probably wouldn't feel great

While this steamer is super effective at getting wrinkles out of clothing, it's not going to have the same effect on our skin, but we have other tools for that

We're so happy to be done with our iron, and ironing board, for good. We're all about the steam life now! Quick, what's the least wrinkle-resistant fabric out there? We're ready to take on a challenge

Californias bullet train is down, and readers are still kicking it Los Angeles Times - Duration: 3:49.

Californias bullet train is down, and readers are still kicking it Los Angeles Times

Among our letter writers who like to use California as a political punching bag and there are more than a few , nothing has better reflected what they see as the states total dysfunction than the serially delayed, budget exploding high speed rail system. Now, with Gov. Gavin Newsom in his first State of the State address that the bullet train, at least for the moment, will be dramatically scaled back from the long envisioned link between Los Angeles and San Francisco to the 110 mile Central Valley segment already under construction, readers are not letting up with their criticism.

While the idea of a north south bullet train has its defenders, as does the truncated Central Valley version, most of the few dozen readers who have written to us on this topic since Newsom made his announcement have either praised the governor or wondered why he did not completely halt construction.

The fate of high speed rail in California may be uncertain, but this is not: With so much ink having already been spilled about this project since Proposition 1A passed in 2008, this will not be the last well hear from readers about the bullet train.

James Regan of Carlsbad sums up the standard arguments against high speed rail in California:

Bravo to Newsom for getting real about this project. For three reasons, the proposed high speed rail system in California could never be successful.

First, the distance between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area is too great; second, the geological barriers are too severe; and third, the customer base is too small.

The revised proposal, to stick with a shorter line between Merced and Bakersfield, avoids the first two problems. But its pretty obvious there will never be enough paying customers to justify spending billions on that small Central Valley segment.

The entire boondoggle needs to be halted.

Los Alamitos residents Dan Schechter and Felice Sussman dont want to throw good money after bad:

Newsom said that if we do not finish the bullet train, we will have wasted billions of dollars with nothing but broken promises.

This is a classic example of a sunk cost fallacy: a possibly irrational decision to pursue a wasteful project, simply to avoid stranding the sunk costs.

The real issue is whether the anticipated expenditures are justified by the anticipated benefits, without factoring in unrecoverable past expenditures. When will we see that analysis?

Hal Dale of Malibu believes the infrastructure does not exist to make a bullet train work:

Yes, the mass use of a bullet train in California could ease global warming, but it wont appeal to potential riders until we build European style city infrastructure. Compare a Parisian going to the Bundestag in Berlin with me going to a meeting in San Francisco.

The Parisian walks a quarter mile to his Metro stop, then for less than 2 Euros reaches the East Paris train station, which has multiple fast trains to Berlin, whereupon another underground line takes him to his destination.

I, on the other hand, must drive at least 45 minutes to Union Station, pay at least dollar 8 per day to park, hope that I can find one of the trips that fits my schedule, and then take a cab to my meeting in San Francisco.

Good infrastructure must exist before mass use of train travel can help us with climate change.

Raymond Johnson of Santa Monica wants a freeway upgrade:

Actually, there is a fast, reliable way to San Francisco, but it has been neglected. It was built in the 1970s but is now outdated. It is named the Interstate 5.

Even on the 5, a driver can get from San Francisco to Los Angeles in less than six hours. If the 5 is expanded from its current two lanes in each direction to four, it would have two lanes for cars and two for trucks.

Plus, we already own the land.

Trump is eviscerated for 'mimicking' Chinese President's accent - Duration: 4:13.

Donald Trump has been mercilessly ridiculed on Twitter for appearing to imitate the Chinese President's accent when discussing criminal sentences for drug dealers

Social media users were quick to pick up on Trump's change in accent when he told reporters of a conversation he had with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a press conference at the White House

He claimed he spoke with President Xi at a trade summit in Argentina about opioid imports to the U

S.which kill 'tens of thousands of people.' He said he asked the President to put the prescription pain-killer Fentanyl on their criminal list of drugs

Trump told reporters: 'With their criminal list a drug dealer gets a thing called the death penalty

Our criminal list, a drug dealer gets a thing called "how about a fine?"'.However his accent appeared to change and soften when he recalled what President Xi told him in response to a question, causing Twitter to go into meltdown

He said: 'When I asked President Xi, do you have a drug problem?, [he responded] "no, no, no

" Trump continued: 'I said you have 1.4billion people, what do you mean you have no drug problem?,  "No we don't have a drug problem

" 'I said why?, to which Trump said President Xi responded: 'Death penalty, we give death penalty to people that sell drugs

' 'End of problem.'He later claimed that the President had agreed to put Fentanyl on China's 'list of deadly, deadly drugs', adding that 'the penalty his death

' Trump then bizarrely said that giving the death penalty to drug dealers was 'one of the things' that excited him most about the U

S.trade deal with China which is currently being negotiated. The exchange led to eagle-eyed Twitter users calling him out for appearing to 'use a Chinese accent

' Matt Carter tweeted: 'Is Trump recommending the death penalty? And is he mimicking an Asian accent? Jack Bacon also commented: 'TRUMP IS USING AN ASIAN ACCENT WHILE QUOTING THE CHINESE PRESIDENT!!!

' Em Carlson wrote: 'Trump isn't racist? How about that racist Chinese? This is more than sickening

He is INSANE!.' Tom McCarthy also said: 'That's right, Trump seemed to be putting on – an accent?  as he supposedly quoted Xi

' A lot of people accused Trump of being racist and said they were even more shocked by his comments claiming that introducing the death penalty for drug dealers 'excited' him
