Waching daily Jun 28 2018

Mitsos, you think these guys can pull this off?

Well it's hard, but doable

Come on man

We have reached the Blue Caves

and we 're looking for the sea turtle Caretta caretta

Heading back is gonna be harder

but canoeing is the perfect way to see this place

No way i 'd swim here

and boats and ferries are too expensive

Canoeing nailed it !

I' ll put on my Go Pro to capture some fishes

I'd like to find a turtle actually.

-Dimitri, where are we? - North west of Zakynthos, at Keri's Caves

We started off from Keri beach

north east of Zakynthos

we covered around 3 sea miles

and arrived at the north west part of Zakynthos

Looks like a shark bite

So much for a commando

Dimitri, where are we off to now?

We' re gonna sail through the blue caves and head to Marathonisi

Marathonisi, a.k.a. the "turtle island"

is where the turtles ladies like to go,

make underwater love with turtle boys <3

and lay their eggs

50cm below the surface of the sand

After 2 months the eggs hatch and the turtles babies come out :)

Let's go!

So here we are in Marathonisi

the "turtle island"

Haven't seen any turtles yet, but still...

-Well, at least it has the shape of a turtle

These are the turtle nests

They are marked for safety reasons

You can ask for further information from the rangers of the marine park

So, we arrived in wonderfull Marathonisi

and met the ranger of the National marine park

Hello

Could you tell as a few things about the park?

-First of all, i 'd like to welcome you here.

I' m the ranger of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos

You are in one of the protected nesting beaches

in Marathonisi

Turtles migrate here during springtime

Mating occurs under the sea and close to the shore

-Because of the higher temperature of the waters

-Also more romantic :)

-Surely :))

Mezzo: How many eggs does a turtle lay?

Ranger: They lay a clutch of 120 eggs on average.

This process is repeated 2-3 times throughout the summer

With a pause of 15 days in between

Mezzo: How many of them usually survive?

Ranger: Usually 60-70% of every nest hatch

- Thank you very much for the information

We 're heading of to these wonderfull blue, navy, greenish waters

Let's go for a swim

Turtles are propably hiding cause the don't really like people.

Can't blame them ...

Am i right or what?

I'm sure we' ll find turtles, we 're goodfellas

I' m thinking of swimming with turtles and you 're chewing on some hot dog

*inarticulate speech*

The turtle should come to me!

I' ve come a long way.
