To be quite honest, February is a great month to travel.
It's short,
it's cold in most of the country,
and you've gotten through one month of the year,
so you deserve to treat yourself to a little
break from reality, or at least, that can be the excuse
you use to justify buying a plane ticket.
Every month, Thrillist's travel team handpicks
destinations that you should be visiting
right (beeping) now.
February is no exception, so without further
unnecessary setup, here are our expert picks
for some of February's top vacation spots.
First up, let's start with a shocker.
OK, I realize that a trip to Missouri in February
with its less-than-tropical climate
sounds more like a sick punishment than a
well-earned vacation.
But we do have some reasoning here.
St. Louis is home to the best Mardi Gras celebration
outside of the Big Easy.
Some contend it's a little less crowded,
and by extension, a little more fun for visitors
who aren't interested in fighting off crowds
to score some sick beads.
Outside of that, St. Louis has some great restaurants,
a slew of solid museums, and of course,
their legendary arch.
This is the perfect excuse to visit St. Louis
in your lifetime and check the arch off your American
landmark bucket list.
- Well, look at it this way honey.
This is a part of America we never get to see.
- Next up, for those who want to fully embrace the winter,
in this case, specifically fresh pow pow, brah,
consider Vermont.
On the East Coast, it's pretty much a given
that Vermont has the best slopes for all your skiers,
snowboarders, tubers, and people who just like to
chill in the lodge drinking hot toddies.
Which is totally fine, by the way.
You can also embrace even more obscure winter sports there.
We're talking ice climbing or even a day-long dog sled
through the Vermont wilderness.
And of course, the cherry atop your Vermont trip
should always be a stop at Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory
for reasons that should be painfully obvious,
even in winter.
♪ No need to imagine ♪
- For those looking for something a little more romantic
than pummeling down a ski slope and potentially
busting your (beep), we've got Venice, Italy.
Now February is an extremely solid time
to book a trip to Venice for some very valid reasons.
First of all, those Instagram-ready alleys
are way less packed in the earlier months of the year.
So you can get that profile picture you've always
dreamed of without some dumb tourist
gawking in the backdrop.
Secondly, the cooler temperature means, well,
to put it bluntly, the city will smell less bad.
If you've been to Venice in warmer months,
you'll know those gorgeous canals don't always
smell like a bouquet of roses.
In February, this will be less of an issue.
All factory preferences aside,
February 16th marks the kickoff of the Venice Carnival,
which is a ton of food, fun, floats,
and, well, you probably get it.
It's a big party and you'll wanna be there
if you have any semblance of fun in your body.
