Jadon Sancho, still only 18, has launched himself into the limelight for Dortmund this season, producing form that earned a call up to the England squad before Christmas
And Dortmund team-mate Thomas Delaney says it has been his job to keep his feet firmly on the ground
The forward has scored seven goals this term and provided 13 assists. His assists tally puts him behind only Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard in Europe's top five leagues
But while Sancho has been getting plenty of attention for his performances, he made the headlines yesterday after forgetting his passport ahead of the trip to face Tottenham in the Champions League
Delaney has been keeping Sancho in line but could not help the youngster remember his travel documentation for the journey to London
The flight was only delayed by 1 minutes, though that was still far more time than it took for the starlet to be brought up at Dortmund's pre-match press conference at Wembley
"I was expecting this question, it was only a matter of time," Delaney said. "Jadon is a big, big talent, with talent comes opportunities and he has them for sure
"But he is still 18 years old and he has done amazing. He is not where he is supposed to be, he is a rough diamond, he will get there
"I feel responsible for keeping him on the ground. Now we are in England and you are world famous for hyping your player
"We try to keep him on the ground because he has a big, big future in front of him and he will do great things, but it takes hard work
" On Sancho's passport mishap, Delaney insisted it was not an issue for the German club
He added: "I didn't notice, it is not a big city like London, it doesn't take that much time to get your passport
"It might cost us a bit of money, but most of the guys didn't notice." Sancho, meanwhile, is happy his move to Dortmund and subsequent strong performances in the Bundesliga have given English youngsters another path to pursue their careers
The attacker was a Manchester City academy graduate but signed for Dortmund in 21 due to a lack of opportunities
The 18-year-old has also featured regularly in the Champions League, making 28 appearances in all competitions this season
"I'm happy that I've opened doors," Sancho told ESPN ahead of Dortmund's trip to Tottenham
"It's a good thing to give other players the opportunities somewhere else and not just at home
It's a good feeling, a nice feeling. "They do ask me what it's like (making the step up from the reserves to the senior team), and I tell them truthfully: It's not easy
It's difficult."
