Hello, now that we start to explore agent-based modeling a little bit more.

We have gone over what the class is going to be about.

Let us take a step back and let us go back to discuss what an agent-based model is in the first place.

But before we discuss what an agent-based model is, I think it is important to discuss what a model is.

And I find this important because in many ways understanding an agent-based model involves understanding what the point of modeling is to begin with.

And this is something that many of you may have learned at some point in your careers.

But it is important to kind of take a refresher and take a step back and discuss this.

So, I define an agent-based model as an abstracted description of a process, object, or event.

The important point here is that it is abstracted, it is not a perfect representation, it does not exactly match up with the real world and the important thing is that it exaggerates certain aspects at the expense of others.

So, for instance in this particular slide, I have a picture of the earth and imagine this is actually the real earth that you are trying to model.

On one side we have a particular projection on to a 2-dimensional map of the earth and what that allows you to see very easily is kind of the delineation between where the earth is land and where it is water, though, of course, they have been changing in time as you may not expect.

But it does not allow certain other aspects, for instance it does not really talk about what is inside the earth. And on the right hand side I have an image you might see from a traditional intro into earth science textbook or something along those lines.

Where we show a cutaway of the earth and we can, kind of, see, what the crust is and what the others aspects are.

Now, neither of these models is a perfect model. Right? Both of these models are wrong to some extent.

And, in fact, George Box, a famous statistician had a quote to that interpretation that essentially all models are wrong but some are useful.

The perfect model is not the model that best represents the world around us, but, instead, is a model that in some ways exaggerates the aspects of the world we are most interested in and can help us solve the problems we are looking at.

In fact, my advisor, John Holland used to say that models are in some ways like political cartoons. Right?

They exaggerate and blow up certain aspects while backgrounding and hiding other aspects, so you can concentrate on the aspects they are trying to make a point about.

So, given that description of a model, then what is an agent-based model?

Well, an agent-based model in our context is a model that is composed of agents as you might expend[?].

An agent is an autonomous, individual element with properties and actions in a computer simulation.

In most of the contexts we going to talk at least it is in a computer simulation.

And agent-based modeling is the idea that the world itself can best be modeled by using agents and environments and descriptions of agent-agent and agent-environment interactions.

And the conceptual[?] seeds[?] of agent-based modeling, right, is that this is one of the best ways to describe the complex systems that we see around us.

Now, over here I have some descriptions of some different types of things that we may think of agents.

Now, generally when people think of agents they often think of humans, right? Of individual humans in this context. But an agent does not have to be an individual human, it could be a company for instance in which case the agent-based model might be a model of the interactions between the different companies.

It could, in fact, be a human. So in this graph right here I actually have a screen capture of the NetLogo HIV transmission model, in which case the model is in fact of agents who are representing humans who might spread HIV from one to the other.

Now, there is no reason why the model had to be built at the level of humans. It was probably appropriate for the particular purposes for which the model was being constructed, but it could have been built at the level of , say for instance, viruses. Right?

In which case it would be a very different model and at a different level of resolution and probably help you to answer different questions.

A model could also be a government. So here I have a representation of the capital dome in Washington, DC. And we could instead be modeling the interactions between governmental agents.

Now, over here I have a representation of Kim Jong Il, right? And I put Kim Jong Il up there, not as an indication of what you might representation with an agent-based model, but as a representation of what is often not useful to represent as an agent-based model.

So, many agent-based models try to characterize overall patterns of behavior.

And when you have one individual who in many ways is erratic, is different from the overall behavior, it is very hard to, kind of, predict or understand what that individual is going to do.

Now, in those cases there are other modeling approaches such as ethnographic modeling or in-depth psychological studies that might give you better understanding.

But in many cases I suggest not using agent-based models for these.

On the other hand, if you wanted to build a set of agent-based models in which you tried to understand the role of dictators and despots and something going on along those lines on a more generalized basis rather than for one particular individual then agent-based modeling might very well be useful for that context.

WordPress vs Ghost vs Medium - Which Blogging Platform Is Best - Duration: 6:02.

Which is the best platform for blogging?

Simply put, any of these platforms, WordPress, Ghost, and Medium

can be a good fit for your blogging efforts.

All three have pros and cons, and neither of them is perfect.

Keep in mind that each can serve a definite purpose, and depending on the nature of the

goal that your blog has, you can pick the one that is ideal for you.

Let's start with WordPress.

For anyone who is even remotely active on the Internet,

WordPress needs no introduction.

It's the most popular website building platform and content management system out there with

more than a quarter of websites and simple blogs relying on.

Plus WordPress can be used to power a lot more than just blogs.

E-commerce stores, corporates sites, photograph sites, news portals, and so on.

WordPress is available in two flavors:

Number one is self-hosted and totally free wordpress.org or free but with paid add-ons,

wordpress.com Wondering what is the difference between .com and .org?

The short answer is: WordPress.org is what you will install on your own server, then

you can customize it with themes and plugins as well as tweak it to suit your needs.

WordPress.com, on the other hand, is what you run from dot-com servers directly.

You can still change the themes but the options are severely

limited and there are no custom plugins to be installed.

WordPress is well known for its simplicity and ease of use.

If there is one platform for our lineup, that is guaranteed to not close its doors any time

in the near future it is WordPress.

Chances are you cannot really go wrong with WordPress if you decide to start a blog.

Using it, does, however, boil down to what you intend to achieve.

Special elements such as SEO metadata and custom content types can only be added

in the self-hosted WordPress.org platform.

Note that WordPress is not truly free in terms of money.

If you opt for the self-hosted version, the software will forever remain free but you

might have to pay in terms of domain name registration and web hosting.

On the other hand, the host at wordpress.com is free for basic usage, lots of storage and

features, but if you need a custom domain or anything fancier

you will have to opt for the paid plans.

Ghost is a straightforward and simple platform that relies on a minimal use of the interface.

Unlike WordPress, Ghost does not power a wide array of websites.

Instead, it is purely a blogging platform and it is meant to be used only for blogs.

Ghost uses markdown rather than visual editing but you can change that with extensions.

Much like WordPress, Ghost comes in two variants: One is the self-hosted version that is free

to download and use and second is the hosted version on Ghost own servers.

However, unlike wordpress.com ghost does not offer a free plan.

More of that, you are not limited, in the hosted version,

and you can upload your own themes and content by means of FTP.

No matter which variant of Ghost you are using this platform offers SEO settings and Social

Sharing features in the core itself, so you don't need external plugins for that purpose.

What trade Ghost up, is minimalism, and that minimalism it's visible not just in terms of design

but also in functionalities.

You can create and edit posts and that's pretty much it.

Medium is the third entry in this video.

It is less of a personalized blogging platform and more of community-centric writing.

In other words, writing on Medium is comparable to having your article in the college magazine

or the notice board, rather than in a journal or diary of your own.

Medium defines itself as a community of readers and writers, offering unique perspectives

on ideas, large and small.

That's exactly what it is - a platform meant for long-form writing

and expressing your views on various subjects.

This platform is primarily used by serious writers focusing on highly niche centric topics.

Medium is purely a hosted platform so you cannot download anything or run it on your own servers.

There are no storage limits in place and the best part is that everything is free as of now.

I know that there are a lot more things we can cover about these great platforms.

What you should remember is that you can definitely test all these tools for free

to choose the one that suits your needs.

Please let me know in the comments section what blogging platform are you using.

What Is Inside Bang Snaps Pop-Its (Party Snap-Its, Pops Crackers) & How Do They Work #tech #Science - Duration: 3:02.

They are known by many names: Bang snaps, snappers, party snaps, crackers, pop pops,

fun snaps, "Lil' Splodeys", Throwdowns, T N T Pop Its, snap-its, poppers, poppies, pop-its,

whip'n pops, Pop Pop Snappers, whipper snappers, whiz-bangers, snap'n pops, bangers, devil

bangers

But what is really inside those pop-its? And how do they work?

Nothing much really, just a bit of coarse sand or gravel twisted in a cigarette paper.

But the gravel has something extra.

It has been impregnated with silver fulminate, a ridiculously sensitive explosive that will

detonate when submitted to impact, friction, pressure, heat and even electricity.

The quantities of silver fulminate used are so low that it makes the product quite safe

to use even by children, or your mother.

How To See If A Two Stroke Is Running Correctly! - Duration: 11:02.

all right what's happening guys today I'm gonna be talking about how to read a

spark plug on Artie stroke now this is more geared towards a two stroke but you

could apply it to a four stroke as well so there's a bit of confusion out there

where exactly to read the spark plug I and what are the indicators of a lean or

rich condition and there's also a lot more you can read from a spark plug to

like ignition timing detonation heat range see if the spark plug is too hot

or too cold for the bike so before we start definitely want to

make sure you have a couple new spark plugs on hand because old spark plugs

will not work for this and so let's jump right into it all right the first test

we're gonna do here is checking the overall JD the bike just see how the

bike is running overall and then later on we're gonna do a chop test as well so

to check the overall jetting of the bike we're gonna install a new spark plug

like I mentioned earlier run it for thirty minutes pull it out and we'll be

able to see a ton of information here on the spark plug it's really valuable

stuff so the first thing we're gonna look at is obviously air and fuel ratio

and then on to stroke the oil and fuel mixture and then we can also look at

ignition timing see if the spark plug is the right heat range if it's too cold or

too hot for this bike and then we can check for detonation as well so keep in

mind doing this test will only give you a general idea of how the bike is

running overall it's not going to tell you if your main jet is too rich or too

lean if your pilot's do extra to lien or mid-range you with your needle if that

is one way of the other and it could mask a really lean or

really rich circuit so by doing this test you're not gonna know if you're

really leaning up top or really lean down low but the test we're gonna do

later on called the chop test will tell you exactly where you're at with the

main jet whether it's to lean to rich or just perfect before I go any further I

got to give a big big THANK YOU to works connection for a spot through the

channel they supplied me with this bike stand and a ton of billet parts for that

cr250 bill that I'm working on so what I like about the stand is super well built

really stable and then it's got this block you can put it wherever but

especially on a bike like this 125 where the bottom of the brain

isn't flat and it doesn't want to sit flat from the stand you know a lot of

times I'll put the bike on a regular stand in the front wheel would be on the

ground yeah this is kind of kind of makes it difficult so I've got both

wheels off the ground which is obviously what you want with the stand and it

makes a lot easier for working on it's actually worth connections sent over a

bunch of sticker packs here for me to give away and so comment down below I'm

gonna pick some you guys just send these thicker packs off to you so comment down

below wc4 works connection and i'll go through and pick five you guys and send

you one of these thicker packs so good luck with that all right I'm gonna pop a

new spark plug in the bike run it for 30 minutes come back pull it out and take a

look at it

so after 30 minutes of running the spark plug in the bike there's quite a bit we

can look at here the first thing is gonna be the overall jetting of the bike

and we can read that here on the flat surface so a tan color is gonna indicate

a good mixture if it's black that's gonna be a rich and no color would be a

lean condition so this looks somewhat tan maybe leaning on the edge of no

colour so I would say that this bike is just a tad bit lean but that's where

it's gonna make the most power is on the leaner side of things so not a big deal

looks pretty good there and then next up is to look at the oil deposits from the

premix so I mixed my fuel at 32 to 1 which is great for 125 on tracks and so

wide open most of the time but on trails you definitely want to go like 40 to 1

or even leaner than that so there is a good amount of oil here on

the threads and a tip I wouldn't say it's too much oil so it looks like 32 to

1 is about right for this bike on the track but if there's any more oil than

what's on there right now I would bump it to 40 to 1 and obviously if you're

fouling out plugs you need to go with a leaner premix ratio another thing we can

look for is that nation or pre-ignition if any of that exists there's gonna be

some melting here between the electrode and the insulator on this spark plug I

don't see any signs of that so another sign of detonation is here at the bottom

of the insulator underneath the threads there's gonna be some black or silver

specks so you need to cut the threads off and I'll actually be doing that

later on in the video to do the chop test so I'll explain what I'm talking

about there what I'm gonna look at now is ignition timing and you can read that

from the tip of the electrode so the lighter colour should be less than half

a millimeter from the tip with this plug you can't really tell I don't think I

ran it long enough to get that lighter colour to show up but if the lighter

colour is more than half a millimeter from the tip you'll need to retard the

ignition timing and the very last thing I'm going to read here on this spark

plug is the heat range and we can check that out

here on the tip so if the plating is burnt on the end of the tip that means

the spark plug is too cold for that bike and if it's burnt here at the base that

indicates the sparkle look is too hot ideally it should be burnt right here on

the bend of the tip on this spark plug can't really tell exactly where the

plating is burnt once again I don't think I ran it long enough if anything

it looks like it's burnt more towards the base so that would mean this spark

plug is too hot for this bike and so how the heat range works on these NGK spark

plugs is the number here br9 eg the nine indicates this is a colder style plug

eight is standard and seven is the hotter style so this being the colder

style plug doesn't really make sense that the base here the plating is more

burnt at the base but I'll have to run this plug some more and then check it

out again see if this is too cold or too hot for the bike now it's time for the

chop test this is the absolute best way to see if your main jet is the right

size or not so what we're gonna do is have an old plug in the bike warm up the

bike take it out put in a brand new spark plug then go through the gears

shut the bike off and let it coast to a stop pull out the new spark plug cut it

apart and check it out

so the reason why I have to warm up the bike with the old plug is right when I

start the bike with a new plug to do the chop test I'll have to go wide open and

obviously you don't want to do that with a cold engine pop in this new spark plug

so like I was saying before I'm just gonna fire up the bike and immediately

take off go through the gears that full throttle and once I reached say a third

or fourth gear pull the clutch shut it off let it coast and pull the plug out

after that

it's gonna put some plug in the vise chop the end off so we can look at the

insulator at the bottom all right so you can see I've got the spark plug split

apart and what we're looking for here on the insulator is a brown or a tan ring

and that ring should be two millimeters thick if it's thicker or it's black

that means the manger is a bit rich or if it's whitish and less than two

millimeters that'll indicate a lean condition I'm gonna go ahead and measure

it with the set of calipers here I'll show you what two millimeters will look

like so it looks right about two millimeters pretty dead-on maybe a

little bit thinner which that's what I would prefer you know being a little bit

leaner like I said earlier a tad bit lean builds more power so yeah it looks

pretty good this is kind of a tannish a little darker than tan color so

everything looks really good on this insulator here and one thing I was

referring to earlier is detonation so you build the tail here on the base of

the insulator there's any black or silver specks that will indicate some

detonation see if this plug has any there's a little bit right here it's

hard to tell if that's from taking off the threads off the plug or if it's

actual detonation but not really enough to be worried about you guys enjoyed the

video make sure you drop a like down below and hit that subscribe button too

Supreme Court says California abortion notice law is likely unconstitutional - Duration: 6:09.

Supreme Court Just Made Monumental Ruling That Has Now Crushed California.

In a monumental decision for religious freedom and free speech, the Supreme Court in favor

of pro-life groups that counsel pregnant women to make choices other than abortion.

This ruling invalidated a California law that required pro-life centers, such as pregnancy

medical clinics, to prominently post information on how to obtain a state-funded abortion.

In a 5-4 ruling, the court ruled the state law was a violation of the Constitution.

The decision will have far-reaching effects casting doubt on the validity of similar laws

in place in Hawaii and Illinois.

The decision marks the first time the country's highest court chose to hear an abortion-related

case during the Trump administration.

Pro-life advocates, including The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA),

praised the Supreme Court for their decision in NIFLA vs. Becerra in what it considers

a "critical free speech case."

NIFLA founder and president Thomas Glessner, J.D, in a statement – "California's

threat to pro-life pregnancy care centers and medical clinics counts among the most

flagrant violations of constitutional religious and free speech rights in the nation.

The implications of the Supreme Court's decision, in this case, will reverberate nationwide,

to similar unconstitutional laws in Illinois and Hawaii."

The California law from 2015 dubbed the "Reproductive FACT Act" (AB 775) previously required all

pro-life pregnancy centers to post signage notifying their patients where and how they

can receive state taxpayer-funded abortions.

The law applied to hundreds of privately funded pregnancy centers.

California has a significant bias in maximizing abortions in their state and it shows.

Many California lawmakers receive campaign donations directly from Planned Parenthood.

Lawmakers such as Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Senator Kamala Harris are among

the recipients.

Abortion is not the only option and should never be promoted as such.

Adoption is also an option, as is education and job training options for young mothers.

Many consider this a major blow to the eugenics agenda against the evil of Planned Parenthood

and their life stealing agenda.

Pro-life groups across the country praised the Supreme Court's decision to affirm life,

free speech, and religious freedom today.

Pro-life centers petitioned the Supreme Court to hear their case after the San Francisco-based

9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against them last year.

The court sided with the state in a 3-0 ruling, saying that the state was acting within its

power of regulating medical providers.

The appeals court also ruled similarly stating that abortion advertisements in pro-life centers

did not violate free speech rights because such signage stated facts without encouraging

women to actually seek an abortion.

However, after hearing the case the Supreme Court did not agree.

The Pacific Justice Institute filed a request for the Supreme Court to review the law.

They argued that the state had effectively stripped pro-life centers and the people who

run them of their right to free speech, much like Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil

Rights Commission which was also recently ruled on by the Supreme Court.

Alliance Defending Freedom petitioned the Supreme Court to halt the law, arguing that

it forced the pro-life centers to act contrary to their core mission and violated their constitutionally

protected freedoms.

Alliance Defending Freedom's Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot welcomed the Supreme Court's

decision.

Theriot said in a statement –

"Forcing anyone to provide free advertising for the abortion industry is unthinkable—especially

when it's the government doing the forcing.

This is even more true when it comes to pregnancy care centers, which exist specifically to

care for women who want to have their babies.

The state should protect freedom of speech and freedom from coerced speech.

Information about abortion is just about everywhere, so the government doesn't need to punish

pro-life centers for declining to advertise for the very act they can't promote."

Ashley McGuire, Senior Fellow with The Catholic Association, said that she hopes this Supreme

Court decision will "put an end to these unwarranted free speech assaults so that the

centers and their staff can go on helping women without harassment from the abortion

industry.

Recent efforts to force America's pregnancy centers to advertise for abortion isn't

just an attack on free speech, it's an attack on the vulnerable women who find help and

healing in them.

These centers offer pregnant women in crisis a true choice in addition to dignified care

and do so with no profit motive and no political agenda, unlike their abortion clinic alternatives."

Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life, also praised the decision.

"These benevolent centers, which exist solely to provide love and support for women facing

unexpected pregnancies and have no financial interest at stake, should not be forced to

violate their first amendment right to freedom of speech and conscience.

March for Life will showcase the heroic work of the pregnancy care movement at the 2018

March for Life with the theme 'Love Saves Lives,'" she said.

Catherine Glenn Foste of Americans United for Life said she was "pleased" to hear

the decision, stating – "Pregnancy Care Centers provide holistic care, resources,

and hope for vulnerable women who are facing unplanned pregnancies, and they should not

be compelled to promote the abortion industry's agenda by posting signs that violate their

mission and core values."
