LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp could be banned for the crucial Champions League clash with
Napoli.
The Reds manager blasted referee Szymon Marciniak after the 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain
last night.
Neymar scored the decisive goal at the Parc des Princes to leave Liverpool needing a 1-0
win or a victory by two clear goals to qualify for the last 16.
But Klopp was angry after defeat to PSG because of what he perceived as play-acting which
the referee didn't spot and could be suspended, say the Metro.
Marco Verratti was also lucky not to be sent off for the hosts after a high tackle on Joe
Gomez.
"We got the penalty, actually, the ref didn't want to give it, I have no clue how that's
possible," Klopp said.
"There was a clear red card exactly in front of me from Marco Verratti.
"We won three times in a row the Fair Play table in England, today we looked like butchers.
"We had six, seven, eight yellow cards and were close to a red card.
"Yes, there were one or two holdings which are yellow cards but the other situations
were… it's unbelievable.
"The ref needs to be prepared for a game like this, and he looked not prepared, that's
being 100 per cent honest."
UEFA have previously banned managers for criticising officials with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola
missing the match against Lyon earlier this year.
That was following his comments after the quarter-final defeat to Liverpool last season.
Liverpool will look to bounce back from defeat in Paris when they clash with Merseyside rivals
Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
After that they face Burnley and Bournemouth before the crunch match with Napoli.
Liverpool welcome the Serie A side to Anfield on Tuesday, December 11.
Virgil van Dijk admits Liverpool would be naive not to take a leaf out of PSG's books
after the Champions League defeat.
French champions PSG secured a 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Wednesday night to boost
their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
For Jurgen Klopp's side, they now know they must beat Napoli to give themselves a chance
of joining Manchester City and Manchester United in the latter stages of the competition.
PSG have been accused of adopting ugly tactics during the game, with Neymar particularly
guilty of falling to the floor easily, according to Reds boss Klopp.
And while Van Dijk was becoming 'so frustrated' at PSG's tactics, he admits Liverpool should
adopt them when necessary.
'Obviously they're world-class players but I don't think it's needed in the game
at times,' the £75million defender said.
'Sometimes they get hit and they will go down and sometimes I think it's too easy
and I'm getting so frustrated.
It's important to keep your head cool but….
'Every time we made a foul they all came to the ref trying to get us a yellow card.
We should do the same at times and I think in the second half we did it better.
It's not the type of game that I like.
'We still respect them and how they are as players because they're world-class but
it's not really necessary at times.
But they scored two goals, we lost and that's it.'
Liverpool manager Klopp accused Neymar of 'playacting' during the match before storming
out of one of his post-match press conferences.
He told beIN Sports: 'We tried to change the game after half-time but you saw it…
look, we lost, they scored two, we scored one.
'But so many interruptions in a game like this.
Everyone knows what they want to do, especially what Neymar wants to do.
'They get 50 free-kicks.
We look like butchers but we are a completely normal football team.
'They go down in every situation, it's unbelievable.
That was really hard to deal with and didn't help us obviously.'
Pressed on whether Neymar's antics during the game was a source of frustration, Klopp
replied 'I said what I had to say, that's it' before storming off.
