Waching daily Nov 28 2018

Hi my name is Avni Adams and I work at the international office at Conestoga College.

I support international students in their transition to Canada and to Conestoga,

particularly with things like taking the bus, going grocery shopping,

finding housing, whatever you need that's what we're here for.

In this video, we're going to talk about how to take the bus.

Kitchener Waterloo has one transportation system called Grand River Transportation.

You can find them on their website GRT.CA

and we're gonna walk through all the steps

that'll help you get on the bus safely and get to where you need to be.

Your ONE Card, actually, is going to double as your bus pass as well.

Once you pick up your ONE Card on campus, you can go to the CSI office

where they will put a little fare sticker on your card

and that's it, you're done, you're ready for the bus!

It might be really helpful to download the GRT app,

it's called EasyGo and you can find it on iTunes or the Play Store on whatever

mobile device you have and on there you can find really important things like:

when is the next bus coming? What are the bus stops? How much are the tickets?

Everything that you would possibly need to know about taking the bus.

Plan your trip before you head out, it can be confusing to be in a new city

and under new transportation system, so using the app or using the website,

you can plan out exactly what buses you need to take, when you might need to change buses, and

how many stops you have to wait on before you get off the bus.

You probably want to get to the bus stop about five minutes

before your bus is scheduled to arrive.

At Conestoga College, we have a special place where you can wait

and maybe grab a coffee along the way.

You may have to wait in line to get on the bus, but once you enter through the

front doors all you have to do is show the bus driver your OneCard with the

fare sticker on there.

Don't be nervous if you're not sure where you're going, you can always ask the bus driver

or you can look to the flashing sign at the front of the bus that announces all the stops.

When you have reached your destination just exit the bus out of the back doors.

At the International office, we're here to support you in any way that you need

so please come by, see us, let us know how you're doing,

and let us know how we can help.

Science is for Sharing - Duration: 0:56.

(electronic music)

- I was really happy when I came to Caltech

to see that there's a quite a large community

here based around outreach. (Children marveling)

So it really feels like the right thing to do

when I'm teaching kids to be,

sort of, sharing this story and sharing this knowledge

instead of just keeping it for myself.

The issue... Is you have to get it cold.

We both can connect over a common sense of wonder.

- That's so cool!

- When the kids come away from the demo,

I want them to look at the world around them

and think that everything around them

has the potential to be,

sort of, magical like this.

- I never seen that before.

- It was really inspiring to me.

- That no matter what they end up doing,

whether it's going into science or not going into science,

they will look out into the world

and they'll know that there's

something really awesome that they're a part of too,

that is not just separate from them.

Holiday Hairstyles for Natural Hair Kids | Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil Butter - Duration: 3:24.

hi everyone. Her hair has been combed out using the jamaican black castor or pure

butter from Sunny Isle and the only ingredient in it is castor

oil now I am going to be split the hair into two sections and then we're going to

create heart shapes on her hair and once you've created a heart shape put one

side away and then we're gonna start flat twisting the hair now if you don't

know how to flat twist you can always cornrow the hair. Once you finish flat

twisting you just twist the very end of the hair and then you want to move on

and repeat the same action on the other side of the hair

we gather the remaining part of the hair and just take a hair tie and

make it not so tight but secure and also tight not too poufy after you've secured

that side move on to the next side and secure that side now the very ends of

the hair we're going to create twist and I like putting rope twists in their hair

because rope twist makes it very easy and it gives it great definition so upon

doing everything this is what it looks like so you can really wear it out like

that but we wanted to create little puffs twisted puffs now all you do just curl

the twists around the base of the hair tie and that is what you do that's all

and after that you can also do the other side just curl it around and around and

if your hair is not long enough, you can always jazz it up whichever way you

choose

for the hair that is hanging out we're just going to alternate the hanging hair and

just connect it with the buns like that and repeat the same action on the other

side and you can leave it like that but you know we have to put something on the

scalp because her scalp was little bit dry so I'm gonna put the same pure butter that

is jamaican black castor oil pure butter from sunny Isle and I'm gonna put it on

the scalp area to lubricate it and also put it on the edges and I find that this

actually lays the edges so we don't have to use gel or anything like that and

then you can just accessorize the hair as you choose and that is pretty much it

so in the upcoming video we'll show you how we maintain this style but thank you

so much for watching and we'll see you in the next video thanks for watching

bye

Here's the Thing... About Caring for our Employees - Duration: 4:19.

So what happens when the school district listens to the needs of our employees?

Here in Keller ISD our employees kept asking when are we going to get childcare?

This year 2018-2019 we had the opportunity to make KEEP a reality.

It is our employee daycare program where our employees get a chance to hand their

kids off and go off to school so let's go inside and check it out because I

think there's babies inside!

Hi Karen, how are you? Good, how are you? So we're here at KEEP, at the Early

Learning Center North, right? Yes. So tell me a little bit about this program.

So this is our employee childcare program and we serve all of

our employees children, ages six weeks to four years and we have six classroom

spaces here at the Early Learning Center North and they just come here all day. So

it's employees' kids only? Employees' kids only, yes. And when did we start this? This is

the first year. Right. So we opened August 6. We're open all of the teacher work days for

the year. Awesome. So now I've heard you say hey if you build it they'll come,

which I'm assuming that means our employees kids will just come join us

right. Yes. So how many kids do we have involved? Tell me a little bit about how

that process works. Yes, we are at capacity right now which is 86. Oh wow.

So we have had 160 families reach out to us. We have 86 right now, we have 22 on a

waiting list. So this seems like a great opportunity for our employees, a way to

recruit and a way to keep people here – our great teachers – so that they know

their kids are taken care of. Absolutely. When you have an on-site childcare like this it

really improves your productivity for your workforce and our teachers stick

around. I know you've got a great team that put this together really actually

quickly so thanks for everything they're doing for these kids and I think we've

got one right now on my ankle.

As a coordinator how about you tell me a little bit more about the staff.

Well our KEEP staff is awesome. We have combined total we have about 186 years

of experience in childcare so that's pretty awesome. So what did the first 30

days look like when we were when we opened up and you're kind of that first

month or two what did that look like trying to get this thing off the ground?

We first we focused on getting to know each other. Sure. The families and really

just the kids. Yeah. Thanks for everything you're doing here, getting great staff on

onboard and everything. It's been awesome. I think this is such a great idea that you know

we can do this for Keller ISD. What kind of feedback have you heard from our

employees about staff? They love it. Yeah. They really really like it.

That's awesome.

Who do we have with us today? This is Briar

my little girl. Hi Briar! So you are the counselor at ELC North. I am, yes. And obviously

Briar is a participant in our KEEP program.

So tell me a little bit about how this has worked for you and this has got to be a

great opportunity right? Oh, it's the very best thing. I get to bring her to work with me

every single day, come down and feed her during the day, so it's just been it's

been huge for me as a new mom. Sure. To have her close by and I know she's being well

taken care of during the day. So tell me how that has impacted you in terms of

your work. I mean lots of times you might be distracted because maybe Briar is not

around but now you know you got Briar close to you, so how has that impacted

your work? Yeah I feel like my job at school is just to love on all the kids

on our campus and support them the best I can and it just it helps me do that

knowing that she's well taken care of and the district's put you know

wonderful teachers in place to provide for her and care for her when I can't be

with her. Now how old is Briar? She's six months old. Six months old? Hi.

How are you? Well I'm glad we have this program for you Briar! Yeah, it's the best thing ever.

So here's the thing... with the launching of KEEP, we have provided an opportunity

not only to impact our future students, our youngest ones, but also gave a chance

for our employees to feel comfortable as they go back to their campus because

quality day care is being provided in Keller ISD. Have a great day!
