The Reds defender has regularly shown his support
for good causes.
Liverpool star Andy Robertson has once again shown why he is one of the most down to earth
footballers around with another heartwarming gesture - just days before the Merseyside
derby.
The left back delighted a young fan last season by sending him a letter and a signed shirt
from team-mate Roberto Firmino to thank the youngster for donating to the North Liverpool
foodbank.
And it is a foodbank that was once again the source of the Scotland skipper's latest kind
gesture - as he took time out of his schedule to volunteer at the North Liverpool Foodbank.
He heard from organisers about the extra strain being put on the centre from the growing number
of vulnerable people who are unable to afford food.
The LFC star also heard about the hugely important role played in supplying the centre by the
Fans Supporting Foodbanks project - set up by Spirit of Shankly and Everton Supporters
Trust - which sees collections take place at all Reds and Blues home games.
As the festive period approaches, always the busiest time of year for foodbanks, the situation
across Merseyside, and particularly in north Liverpool, is stark.
Almost 8,000 people used North Liverpool Foodbank during the last financial year.
That figure is up to 4,800 already during the current financial year (since April).
North Liverpool Foodbank is feeding 100 extra people per week.
Fans Supporting Foodbanks donations amounted to 20 per cent of North Liverpool Foodbank's
food income last year.
This year, that has risen to 25 per cent.
It is for that reason that those behind Fans Supporting Foodbanks are making an extra push
ahead of Sunday's derby and asking all fans who can afford to bring along items for those
in need, to do so.
Fans are encouraged to drop off items at the purple FSF van in the Anfield Road fan zone,
the Anfield club store, and the Homebaked co-operative bakery on Oakfield Road.
Andy said: "We've got a big game on Sunday and I'm sure we'll all be focused on it, and
the fans will be focused on it, but the van will be there, the help will be there, and
if everyone can bring something small it can make a big difference."
Lyon's Ligue 1 starlet Houssem Aouar shone in the Champions League while Premier League
giants Liverpool lost away to PSG.
In a week where Liverpool's lack of creativity and class in central midfield was exposed
by a Marco Verratti-inspired Paris Saint Germain, Houssem Aouar highlighted exactly what he
would bring to Anfield.
The 20-year-old was superb as Lyon battled to a deserved 2-2 draw with Manchester City
in Tuesday's Champions League clash, earning vociferous praise from Pep Guardiola after
causing his side no end of problems at the Stade OL.
"Houssem Aouar is a very good player.
He is incredible," Guardiola told Sky Sports.
"He's always very calm with the ball at his feet, with excellent technical quality."
A languid and intelligent midfielder, the France U21 international has got better and
better throughout an outstanding breakthrough year – and he showed against City that he
could be the man that Liverpool need to take their team to the next level.
RMC Sports claims that The Reds are indeed very interested in Aouar, who plays in the
same left sided midfield role that a certain Philippe Coutinho made his own at Anfield
before sealing that £145 million switch to Barcelona 10 months ago.
Now, the midfield trio of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum that lined up
in the 2-1 defeat in Paris offers plenty of perspiration but little inspiration.
Aouar, however, could provide that class and cutting edge that Klopp's side need to break
down tightly-knotted defensive lines.
Houssem Aouar is a French footballer who plays for Lyon as a midfielder.
Aouar is a versatile attacking midfielder, who can play anywhere in midfield, and has
been praised for his excellent technical ability and his calmness with the ball at his feet.
He joined the Olympique Lyonnais Reserves and Academy in 2009 at the age of 11.
He signed a three-year professional contract at Olympique Lyonnais in July 2016.
He made his first team debut in on 16 February 2017 in a 1–4 away win against AZ Alkmaar
in the UEFA Europa League, replacing Sergi Darder after 84 minutes.
Aouar scored his first professional goal a week later in the return leg 7–1 victory
at Parc OL.
He made his Ligue 1 debut against Bastia on 16 April 2017, but the match was interrupted
and given as a win to Lyon three weeks later.
He was nominated for the Golden Boy award in July 2018.
At the beginning of the 2017-2018 season, despite only four professional matches to
his credit, Aouar rwas given the symbolic number 8 (having previously been worn by club
legend Juninho) left free by Corentin Tolisso.
