What is a Lot?

Currencies were traded in specific amounts

called lots.

It is the transaction size in forex transaction

which means the number of currency units

that you will buy or sell.

There are four different unit for each lots.

The most common

is standard lot.

A standard lot worths 100,000 units of base currency.

A mini lot worths 10,000 units of base currency.

A micro and nano lot

worth 1,000, and 100 units of base currency respectively.

What is a Pip's Worth?

So, what is pips

as mentioned in the last video?

Pip stands for Point in Percentage.

It is the unit of measurement

to express the change in value between two currencies.

Most of the currency pairs measure with 4 decimal places

but Yen currency pairs measures with 2 decimal places only.

So what is the value of pip?

The formula is the amount of the Base currency in lots

times the number of pips equals the amount in Quote currency.

For example

a trader buys 1 lot of EUR / USD

at 0.2247

and he decides to close his position after the price rises until 0.2258.

In this case

he earns profit of 11 pips.

But how much in dollars?

Just apply the formula as mentioned above

Buy 1 lot times by 0.0011

equal 110 dollars of profits.
