so well I'm back okay quick interruption as you can see from behind me I'm not at
home anymore I'm just picking my kids up from the grandparents and editing my
video and I realized I made a big mistake so I got my wife to sit in where
I focused the video and obviously she's a bit smaller than me and I've got this
incredibly long body which means my head came out of the top of it so sorry about
that I've got some lots of different angles
in the video it's gonna be great okay back to the video morning great to see
you all again so I am back from what was an epic trip to the Faroe Islands I
don't use the word epic very much but oh it was so epic and next week he's gonna
be the first of a couple of videos from the Faroe Islands I was there on a
project and I'm going to tell you more about that in next week's episode but I
had so much fun there the conditions were unbelievable and the location was
just out of this world now what I want to do in today's video is tell you a
little bit more about planning for a trip like that and more importantly
about my gear that I take on a trip like that to do photography and videography
and it's quite interesting really because I've laid all this gear out that
you can see here you'll probably say that there's not a huge amount of what
you would traditionally call camera equipment but what I wanted to tell you
a little bit around about all the accessories that I take all the other
things that allow me to produce great videos but also get great shots as well
because for me yeah this is just a small part of getting that perfect shot a
perfect video it really is about all the other things that add up them to make
that perfect shot and if you get all those things right then you and you're
prepared then you can do something really spectacular so we're gonna start
from the right here and this is all my video gear and I'll
just move across to the left now there's no particular order in this apart from
this is video this is stills and this is sort of other accessories like tripods
and things so first of all I have for my video I want to be able to create sort
of more cinematic things and my video production so I've got a slider so this
is a Eagle Chrome don't know how to pronounce it edelkrone
Eagle chrome slider it's really small and it just allows me to get something
just a little bit different I actually took this all the way to the Faroe
Islands and didn't use it but I've used it in lots of other locations and I
always want it just in case I can get that shot it's really good for time
lapses so then I've got a gimbal this is a game used for my videography and this
is a as I on say on this is a young gimbal and it's absolutely fantastic I
think this is the version 2 of this not the 2 is v2 and so yeah I can put my xh
1 or XT 2 on here with a wide-angle lens and I can just get really great and
video but I need somebody else to operate this so this worked well when I
went to Iceland with must be River Sun so I've got that then I've got my drone
so you've seen in my channel I use my drone all the time it's just a great way
of sort of setting the scene I can talk to it as well which is something that I
really enjoy doing and just talking to the drone and as it goes around me I
think it just really sets the scene of where I am it's a closest I've got for
you guys to see what it's like well for where I am and then for my drone I've
got some polar Pro nd filters I'd never use these before this is the first time
I've used them on my pharoahe strip I have to say does improve the quality
when you're flying low over something and you've got maybe a fast shutter
speed by reducing that shutter speed you get a more cinematic feel so these are
really good you don't need them all the time from shooting close to sunset
sunrise then I don't need them because I've got a slower shutter speed but I
definitely recommend them by the way all the links to these things are in the in
the description below so if you if you want
to see exactly what the details are I've linked them below and then if we get on
to my filters for videoing so I've got more polar Pro filters for videography
so these are just scroll filters on to my wide-angle lens that again I really
like these polar Pro filters they I just worked really well I can screw them on
I've got different Indies I don't have a variable one I just use multiple
different filters that I take I prefer that because I feel that there's better
quality interesting in my background and my PhD was in developing thin film
coatings on glass for solar panels so I think I care quite a lot about my
filters and the quality of my filters because I suppose as a geek II physics
student I I know what's good and what's not good so then I've got all my
batteries and my cables I've come more to my cables in a minute because I've
got a bag when I come over to my bags that I put my cables in and I like to
have everything really organized I've then got it's really great I've got this
really great charger which is a looot X o UT XE why why is everything so
difficult to pronounce charger its solar panels as well but it's heavy which
which is a problem but it's really good for charging things on the go so I use
it for charging my Fuji batteries I've got a USB charger for my Fuji batteries
I plug it into this and I can be absolutely sure that when I'm on
location I've always got batteries charged also use it to charging my
iPhone as well because I use my iPhone for lots of different things whether I'm
taking photos for Instagram post onto Instagram for Instagram stories using it
for maps for location using things like photo pills the apps to do workout
whether someone's going to set there's just so many different things that I'm
using my phone for I have to be able to charge it on the go so I want a really
good solid charger and this is amazing so then I've got my microphones so I
have two different microphones so I have this
this microphone which is a shotgun microphone that fits on the top of my
camera so I put on the camera and plug it directly into my camera the sound
quality on this is good but you got to be quite close to it and it also picks
up really good ambient sound as well so it's good for understanding the
environment that I mean so that that's great
I've got this which is my lapel mic which I use all the time I always take
double sounds so sound on my camera and sound on my life pal so I have this
connected all the time to me recording all the time and I can sync the audio
later it takes longer in the video production but it's definitely worth it
and then for that I have these squirrels that go on that just because it's always
windy wherever I am this is a zoom recorder and a road lav mic so then
before you get onto this film and talk a little bit more about my camera gear I
also have a MacBook Pro laptop which and I used to download all my footage and
I'm going to do a video in a 2 or 3 weeks about downloading it and backing
up my footage but quickly if I just tell you quickly about this so at the end of
every day so I record on double SD cards in my Fuji cameras or my Nick on camera
so I to SD cards I'm recording to both so if one fails I don't lose any footage
because actually no matter what happens to any of this this this gear it doesn't
really matter if I lose my images on my video it's a disaster so I have to
always have backup Drive we've got two SD cards and then on the end of the day
our backup to this hard drive and then I have another one of these as well which
it creates second backup to so I have double backups of my SD cards and then I
don't delete my SD card through that throughout the whole trip so then I
ended up having triple backup so then going onto my cameras in a little bit
more detail so I've got a Fuji XD two and a 35-millimeter lens which is
recording this I usually take my Nikon d810 with a the same range of lenses as
well but as you know I broke that it couldn't get fixed before the trip to
the Faroe Islands so Fuji kindly lent me at xh 1 and a fifty to one forty lens
I've just loved using it it's just been fantastic and for a trip like this where
I'm traveling just be able to travel light it's just it's just brilliant I've
also got a 10 to 24 millimeter wide angle lens now
it's got tape on it because unfortunately I dropped it on a clip and
the mount snapped off so I've not been using it obviously but it's just to stop
it break-in which I've now broken it again so that isn't good so that's going
to need to be fixed I have to say that things happen at do break things not
know who regularly but you know recording a lot of stuff all the time
and I've just got to factor that into to being a professional photographer
luckily I had a really great guy there Thomas who was a guide on the Faroe
Islands and I worked with him for one of the days and who lent me his mic on when
I broke this so thanks ever so much Thomas his details a link below go and
follow on Instagram if you go to the Faroe Islands definitely use Thomas it
was a fantastic guide ok so now going a little bit further to the left here
we've got my filters for landscape photography this is a fire crest ultra
point 9 grand but I have various different grads and have a polarizing
filter as well really like these they are coated on glass so they're just
better quality and it's really good good idea to get good quality filters because
you don't want any colour cast this on fire Chris filter so I've got an offer
code for 10% off so if you gain if you're looking at details below you can
see the link to their website and I think it's Nigel 10 if you type that in
the details below you can get 10% off that gear so make sure you do that I've
also got this which is a Pelle case for holding all my SD cards it's just it's
just fantastic it means it's safe it's waterproof I can
throw it around that is the most important thing to me all my SD cards
when my dates are on I've got to look after that as best account so this is a
really good case then I've got my tripods here I take two tripods so to
Benro tripods so this is the travel angel which I I've got with a v1e head
so this is quite light I use this this is the number one tripod I use all the
time it extends reasonably high and it's fantastic
and I've also got this two leg tripod - - leg officer that bit really
rubbish on the two extension tripod which is a Mac three tripod and that's
got a b2 head on so this is a bit sturdier it's a bit windier I can put
this off it also goes a little bit higher as well and knee two tripods
because they're got to be up to video b-roll and be able to set my camera for
taking photos as well I've also got this job II tripod as well which is great
it's been being flexible so then I've got a number of bags so I've got this
bag from DGI which is just to carry my drone I won't actually recommend this if
I'm honest it broken the Zips broken and I think it's particularly easy to carry
so if you're thinking about getting one of these then don't I've got some small
bags actually just wash I get this bag out it's just reminding me I've got this
lens as well which is a sand marked lens which goes on my iPhone and it's
fantastic if you just look I'll show a shot now taken with it
it is such good quality optics it feels good quality as well it's like really
heavy it's a great lens just to stick on your iPhone and takes on wide-angle shot
so if you know if you just out and you've not got your big camera you don't
until you become a taking that just gives you a little bit more flexibility
and allows you to play around a little bit
I've got a bag two of these bags so this is just allows me to throw little bits
of pieces in like batteries or just just anything that's just small like these
akka swiss mounts i can just stick in here so I just keep everything together
in these these places you know that they're really good and then I've got my
big bag here which is a timber bag I'm not gonna go through it in a lot of
detail but I love it it's not the biggest timber bag you can get someone
below again I'll link the details of it in the in the notes below but it is
fantastic I absolutely love this bag it's really comfortable I have a bad
back and a pacemaker so comfort is important to me and this is a fantastic
bag I've hiked I must have hiked probably 30 miles when I was in the
Faroe Islands and yeah it was just never got on comfortably
I like bags that load this way rather from the back
prefer it that way around and in terms of the compartments it's just enough to
fit the gear that I've got here pop my drone in it so believe it or not I can
get all my gear in this bag so that's all the gear that I took with me on this
Faroe Islands trip and I have to say apart from the slider I used all of it
so so contributed massively to me been able to make really great videos on this
channel so I'm really looking forward to editing the footage and showing you just
how amazing the Faroe Islands was I really feel I've got things that will
allow you to come along for the ride and just see just how spectacular it was and
how vast it was I'll leave you with at the end of IDEO of some of the amazing
scenery to give you a little bit of a taster for next week but before I do
that if you haven't got the calendar yet then if you don't if you saw the video
that I did a couple of weeks ago but I produced this calendar which is the
first calendar I did of my the journey that we talk over the last year it was
really spectacular I really enjoyed making the calendar I was really pleased
with the outcome of this calendar as well and then I'm taking pre-orders
until Tuesday so you've got two more days so I wouldn't leave it too long as
well cause I'm close to bringing out of calendars so if you haven't pre-ordered
then Matt I'm taking pre-orders until the 31st of July and for any pre-order
then thanks to photo speed and providing a limited edition image on a for print
as well on this amazing paper so that's a great opportunity to see what I get so
excited about because I really do love this paper so you'll get one of these
prints which is worth 69 pounds and this for 22 pounds ninety-nine free delivery
anywhere in the world and you know it'll help me and this channel and it'll help
me to continue to make great videos for you to enjoy and hopefully the next 12
months that we of adventure will be great so I'm really looking forward to
it thanks ever so much for watching this week and until next Sunday bye
