Salutes to that.
We're going to start off with what actually spurred this topic.
We got a letter from Stacy and this is what she said.
She said, "Hey Sarge, I'm an aspiring artist, but I struggle with the thought of making
the jump.
My anxiety has kept me from releasing music, even though I'm always writing.
Any tips that you can give me?"
Now believe it or not guys, this question is very, very common amongst creatives.
Why?
Because think about the thoughts that go through our mind, go through our heads every single
day.
Is what I do good enough?
Will people like it?
Will I ever get signed?
Will I ever make enough money?
Or do I even have enough money to do what I love?
All of these things cross through our minds on top of way other, many more questions and
issues, right?
What ends up happening?
After a while, those questions turn into doubt, and later that doubt turns into fear.
That fear ends up paralyzing us to the point where we don't do anything.
We don't make a move.
We don't make a step.
But, I'm here to actually encourage you and to say, "You have to take the step".
It's necessary in order to reach your goals and what you're focused on, you have to.
Why?
Because, you can't reach the finish line without taking that first step across the starting
line.
It's not possible.
It's not possible.
You have to take the first step.
To answer her question, Sarge what do you do?
How do you overcome fear?
How did you overcome the fear of releasing your first song or project, or hopping on
your first big stage, things like that?
All right, well I'll keep it 100 with you all.
This is what I did.
I took my first step in private.
Why couldn't the 11 year old get into the pirate movie?
Why?
It was rated R.
In private.
R ... because it's about pirates.
So, you're probably wondering what in the world does that mean?
It's simple.
I use the track analogy earlier.
If you know that you're not that good at running, or running is what you love and what you wanna
do, and you wanna get better.
Well, if you don't wanna be seen by everyone else, get up at 5:00 in the morning, 6:00
in the morning.
Head to the track and run, where it's just you and the track.
You, and your headphones, and the track.
And you're getting better.
Hit that trail.
Do what you wanna do.
If you're scared about weight loss and that goal that you have for yourself, go the gym
where you know no one else is there.
Do what you have yo do.
Now, in case of me, I'm a music artist, right?
My first steps in private were writing my songs in the comfort of my own room.
Me hopping on Amazon and finding a book on how to rap.
It got sent to my house.
No one else knew about it.
You know, being in my bathroom and grabbing the hairbrush and getting in front of that
mirror and pretending like I was on a stage, rapping my songs.
Or being in the shower, doing the same thing.
No one else knows about that, or knew about that.
I took my first steps in private.
Now, some of you all might be like, "Yo, Sarge, you just exposed yourself bro.
You just exposed yourself".
But here's the thing that you guys don't understand, people don't care about your process, they
care about the results.
It's simple as that.
There were tons of other steps and things that I've done or did but, when fear is associated
in the equation, it's always gonna stop you.
There has to come a point where you just go, "Yo, I'm tired of being sick and tired".
I'm tired of never releasing music and people always asking me, "Hey, when you gonna start
your company?
When are you gonna do this?
When are you gonna do that?".
There has to come a point where you say, "I gotta take the first step or I'm always going
to be here".
People are always gonna look at you like you had the potential to do this and do that,
and they never took advantage of it.
Stop allowing fear to get in your way and stop allowing fear from keeping you from greatness.
Simple as that.
