The Simple EQ Trick For A Clean, Balanced Low End - BehindTheSpeakers.com - Duration: 7:17.

In this video, you'll discover a simple EQ trick that will help you craft a clear,

balanced low end in any mix.

Hey, this is Jason from Behind The Speakers, and if you're like most of my students you

probably struggle to get the low end in your mixes to sound right.

Maybe the kick and the bass are competing.

Maybe the low end sounds boomy or muddy.

Or maybe your mixes sound great in your studio, but when you take them out into the car the

low end totally falls apart.

If any of this sound familiar to you, you should know that you're not alone, because

mixing low end is just hard.

It's hard for everybody, whether you're an amateur or a pro.

And this trick that I'm going to show you today is going to make things easier for you.

It's going to help you approach the low end with more clarity and confidence.

Now one of the main challenges when it comes to mixing low end is that it can often be

difficult to hear what's going on in that area of the frequency spectrum.

Our ears are much more sensitive to midrange frequencies.

And so when it comes to mixing the low end, if you can't really hear what's going

on down there it makes it much more difficult to make good mixing decisions.

So this trick is almost like a magnifying glass.

It will help you zero in on that low end area.

And when you can do that, you can be much more discerning, and it just makes it easier

to make the right mixing decisions.

So I have a track here called "Best Man," by Dylan Owen.

And I'm going to show you how to apply this trick on this track, but let's take a listen

to the full mix first.

♪ Green as our grandparents trees, in our land of fantasy ♪

♪ There in pine bush, shoot through the acres with our lanterns leaking kerosene ♪

So you notice this is a hip hop track, and obviously in hip hop the low end is incredibly

important.

So the kick and the bass in this mix at this point I think are working really well together.

And one of the big parts of that was the fact that I got really good sounds to work with

as a mixer.

So the producer who produced this track did a really great job at choosing the rights

sounds - the kick and the bass - and they fit really well together.

And that's half the battle - just getting the right ingredients to start with will make

the mixing job so much easier.

But something else that I really tried to do in the mixing process was pay very close

attention to that low end and make sure that I was giving it the attention it deserved,

because in a hip hop track low end is everything.

So what I did was I added an EQ to the mix bus.

Now I added it at the end of all my other processing, and this is what I recommend you

do as well if you're using this trick.

So after any compression or other EQ, or limiting, just put it at the end of the line.

Now here I'm using the FabFilter Pro-Q 2, which is my favorite EQ.

You can really apply this technique with any EQ, you don't need this specific one.

This is just the one that I like.

So I have a bunch of presets that I've created for this EQ.

The one we're going to take a look at here is called subs only, and basically all this

is is a very simple low-pass filter.

And a low-pass filter cuts all the high end out and lets the lows pass, that's what

low-pass means.

So basically we have a filter here that's cutting everything above 170 Hz, so all we're

left with is the low end.

So I've found that number 170 Hz is a pretty good place to start cutting if you're using

this trick.

It's not essential that you use that specific number.

You can play around and find your own specific number that works best for you, specific frequency.

The other thing I just want to point out here is that the slope on the cut - so that's

how aggressive the cut is - is 18 dB per octave.

So a higher slope means that things drop off a lot more quickly.

So if we set this to - let's say 96, you can see it's like a straight line.

Whereas back at 18 dB, things are a little bit more gentle.

So I find that that number 18 dB for this technique works really well.

I would encourage you to play around and determine your own choice for that specific slope that

works best for you.

But the idea here is that now when we play back the mix through this filter, all we're

going to hear is the low end of the frequency spectrum in our mix.

And it's almost like, again, taking a magnifying glass up to that specific area of the frequency

spectrum.

So let's take a listen.

I'm going to turn the mix up a little bit so we can hear it more clearly.

So you can see and hear now we can actually just zero in on that low end information,

and we can start to discern what the relationship is between the kick and the bass in that low

end area.

Now the way that I use this technique is I don't spend a ton of time listening through

this filter.

I prefer listening to the whole mix, and it's important that you listen to all the frequencies

together primarily.

But when I'm really trying to zero in on maybe a specific high-pass filter or I'm

trying to work on the relationship between the kick and the bass, and I really want to

get a little bit more of a sense of what's going on in that area, that's when I'll

pull this up.

And I might flip it in for a minute or so and just listen to what's going on, and

I usually like to listen to the low end just on its own towards the end of the mix as well.

And not only do I do this with the low end, but I actually do this with the midrange and

the high end as well.

So you can see here I have a midrange-only preset that just cuts out the low end and

the high end and just zeros in on the midrange, and then I have a highs-only preset that just

allows me to listen to the high end.

The point here is that by using these filters - and specifically in the low end - I find

this is really the most useful.

Again, it just allows me to hear a little bit more of what's going on, and just zero

in for a second at what's happening down there, and just make better mixing decisions.

So play around with this technique.

Create a preset in your favorite EQ.

And I promise you, you know, especially if you're working on things like hip hop, being

able to zero in on that area and spending a couple minutes every mix just listening

to what's going on down there will help you make better low end mixing decisions,

and it's going to lead to a low end that sounds clearer and more balanced.

If you're ready to dive deeper, if you like this technique and you want to learn more,

I recommend that you download my free EQ cheatsheet, which is packed with more tips and tricks

that will add clarity and separation to your mixes just like the one that we talked about

today.

So if you want to download this, again it's completely free.

Just click the link in the video above or in the description below, and you'll download

this free cheatsheet right now.

Outfits for Patio Season | Cerulean Boutique - Duration: 2:40.

In today's episode we're showcasing three looks to wear on the patio.

Summer is here, the weather's beautiful so why not go and enjoy the backyard barbecues

and patios this season.

Hale Bob does a beautiful blouse.

What I love most about Hale Bob is not only the gorgeous details and beautiful fabrics

but when you're sitting at a table, often your blouse is the showcase and it reflects

your personality.

So choose a beautiful blouse that you can see sitting above the table with some gorgeous

detailing in the shoulder.

Easy to pair back to a white short.

A Bermuda short is great, especially when you're sitting down.

It covers the back of the thigh and keeps you from getting those lines from the patio

furniture that we all see when we get up and after we've sat for maybe a little bit too

long enjoying a couple too many beverages.

You can easily finish this look with a nude slide that gives it an absolutely effortless

feel.

For our second look that we're showcasing, a dress is a one-and-done, especially

a patterned dress.

When you're sitting on a patio, you end up sitting there for quite some time and wrinkles

tend to happen.

So with a pattern, it's all about the camouflage.

It can add some great colours in and it will carry you through the whole night, especially

one with a sleeve.

You don't have to worry about adding a sweater on over top.

Just effortless, easy and you'll arrive just looking top notch.

The perfect shoe to wear with this dress is a nude wedge.

A wedge can take you across the grass and the nude will lengthen the leg giving you

that effortless, easy look that won't compete with the dress.

As you know our summers are not always that warm.

So our third showcase outfit features something that will keep you a little bit warmer on

those cooler evenings or those backyard barbecue days that are just a little bit on the cooler

side.

Line the Label does a beautiful lightweight sweater.

Perfect to pair back to a culotte jean by Paige.

Something that still screams a little bit summer while maintaining the warmth.

Back to a slide for footwear and a So Pretty Cara Cotter necklace just elevates the look

that much to bring you to the backyard and patio season.

Thank you so much for watching.

ChiroUp For Evidence Based Chiropractors: Tennis Elbow Treatment - Duration: 2:00.

Most of the muscles that extend your wrist backward attach to a bump of bone on the elbow called the lateral epicondyle.

Sometimes, through injury or overuse, the site where this common tendon inserts can become irritated or inflamed

creating a condition called lateral epicondylitis,

more commonly known as tennis elbow.

In spite of the name, the majority of those affected by tennis elbow have never even played tennis...

But they do perform common activities; things that involve repeated wrist extension, like carpentry or construction,

typing, playing the piano, knitting or lifting objects with your palm down.

Since you accomplish many of those tasks with your dominant arm, this condition is 3x more likely to affect that side.

The pain of tennis elbow often begins as a vague, aching sensation around your elbow, sometimes radiating toward the forearm.

Initially, symptoms are provoked by forceful gripping or lifting. But as the condition progresses,

even simple everyday activities, like holding a cup of coffee, can produce pain

Without treatment, tennis elbow usually lingers. In fact, 80% of patients still report pain more than one year after onset.

Fortunately, chiropractors have some very effective tools to help relieve your pain. Things like therapy modalities to decrease the irritation and

myofascial release to help break up scar tissue adhesions and loose and excessively tight muscles.

Your chiropractor can also determine if a support brace is appropriate,

and show you the most effective home exercises in order to help prevent this problem from returning.

But joint manipulation is your chiropractors secret weapon in the war on tennis elbow.

Research has shown that chiropractic manipulation of restricted joints in the elbow, wrist, and spine can provide immediate benefit, and

dramatically improve your treatment success.

So if you, or someone you know, suffers from tennis elbow, consider the safe effective natural alternative first.

Kershaw Natrix Knife Review- New for 2018 Carbon Fiber and G10. Based on ZT 0770 - Duration: 10:21.

Last week you may remember a video where I strapped on the old proverbial water skis

and prepared for a well supervised stunt that involves a large ocean dwelling creature made

entirely of teeth.

And if you don't get that joke, then congratulations you never watched Happy Days.

And I'm not even being sarcastic about that.

But we're back to knives and not the more expensive brand name melamine foam which I

should have bought way cheaper off Amazon.

And this one specifically is the updated Kershaw Natrix which you have been seeing show up

on all the internet knife reviews table tops for the past two months- including Austria's

finest gear reviewing Youtuber A Little Older, whose video about this Natrix I'll link

at the end.

But before we get into the real knife demonstration video art let's look at the dimensions of

this update to a knife I think they released last year.

A statement I did not research well enough.

Like the overall length and weight.

I don't research anything.

I mean I researched new computers today.

I can't afford any of those.

Blade size and cutting edge.

What do you research or do that is a waste of your time.

Before you answer remember if you don't have anything nice to say.

Handle size and grip area.

Then you might be a student loan servicer!

Spine thickness and handle thickness.

You know I've been out of college for about 16 years now.

Tallness and flipper tabs.

I think in 2024 I'll have those paid off.

I heard Youtube was lucrative so that's why I'm here.

The good news is though that the Kershaw Natrix with carbon fiber overlays is a good knife

for under $50- so if you also wasted money on an industry specialized for profit college

you too can own this knife.

Of course if you made the smart choice and went into say computer science at a traditional

college you might be able to afford the knife this is based off of- the Zero Tolerance 0770,

which is based off the 0777- which won an award of some kind.

According to the website.

PBR won an award.

Let's look at the blade shall we.

It features a drop point, that resembles a sheeps foot in a way depending on how you've

been drinking.

"that sheep has real nice feet" ok not that much.

It's covered in a titanium carbo nitride covering a blade made from 8Cr13Mov sometimes known

as D2 if you buy a cheap knife directly from China.

It has a decent sized cutting edge, and some fine spine jimping on the top- not quite like

a spyderco but close.

Deployment of the blade is handled by a flipper tab that is not assisted, but has a strong

detent like the kershaw Fraxion I reviewed last year.

These knives are kind of similar in spirit- the Fraxion being smaller but having a light

mostly G10 frame.

This one can be deployed consistently with minimal effort.

Most is the initial press, and pop it rockets out.

It's actually almost harder to keep it from deploying fully.

Lockup is handled by a sub fame lock... which is a patented Kershaw feature, but looking

at it in idiot terms it's a metal piece attached to the G10 with screws... so the knife doesn't

have to have a full liner- it reduces carry weight and keeps it a nice size blade and

handle.

One thing I noticed after a few hundred deployments is that the blade centering was off... the

pivot had loosened a bit, and after tightening it reentered itself.

The pivot is easy enough to tighten- and apparently has no locktite which is a bonus.

Detent is strong so it's not possible to fling it open downward gravity style.

Handle is as mentioned made primarily from G10 with no liners.

It has a back spacer so it's only partially open backed.

It has thin carbon fiber overlays to match the hood of your 4 door accord with the car

seat in the back.

For a light weight every day knife I don't see any reason to make a handle out of steel

or even titanium.

Pocket clip.

Deep carry short, tip up in right or left pocket because it's swappable.

how ever no tip down deployment is possible- which relatively few people should complain

about.

Note the word relatively.

And I just got this question recently from a new subscriber... my preferred carry when

I'm wearing pants tip up blade backward in my right pocket I am right handed.

Pocket clip has right amount of tension, I like the tip to be a little less aggressive

of an angle but that's a minor nitpick.

Comparisons.

We'll keep this short this video doesn't need to be 10 minutes.

I dunno maybe it will be.

First the Natrix.

Blue and black, I think the knife is nice looking, the handle is kinda comfortable

I like a grip area about 3.5 inches so I can move my hand around a bit.

A little smaller isn't bad I guess, not everyone needs large knives.

I own a few Kershaws and this one would be most likely to show up in a pocket rotation.

Now the Fraxion- this one is also very nice.

A coworker asked me once what a good small knife was, and I recommended this.

It's a fast deployer and you barely know it's in your pocket.

Not everyone needs handles and blades over 3 inches.

How about the Cryo 2, Hinderer designed.

A little too heavy for me, and not quite big enough I don't need an assisted knife, when

a non assisted like the Natrix is nearly as good.

My rule of thumb is, if the blade and handle are not the ideal size for me, and it's over

4 ounces I won't carry it.

Let's look at the Para Military 2... little bit larger handle and blade the ideal every

day carry size for me but a lot more expensive probably by $100.

Sometimes I have a hard time recommending a good light modern snappy deploying knife

that's affordable that's not a spyderco.

The Natrix fits that bill... it's sort of comparable to the Spyderco Tenacious in price

point and similar steel, but a little lighter and slightly smaller.

And I think nicer looking.

The tenacious is kind of plain in black G10 personally- although nicer after drinking.

Wrap it up.

The Natrix is a fine every day carry blade if you're on a budget.

Sure knife snobs don't like 8Cr13Mov steel, but to the person who doesn't mind sharpening

a bit more often- then it's a good budget choice.

I own many knives in a lot of different steels, but that's never been the main reason I choose

to carry a specific knife.

My last two larger knife purchases were both Spydercos and the looks, and handle materials

were my first considerations when spending money I didn't have.

Many of the knife designs I like, from the looks, to the ergonomics tend to have good

steel already.

And as a note of caution on the batoning of light weight knife designs.

They are not designed for this.

And it voids your warranty.

Plus you might injure yourself or a nearby drunk loved one.

The blade stop pin popped out because of the flex of the G10 and the repeated hard whacking.

Luckily my knife was easily fixed by partially disassembling the knife, and praying to Lynn

Thompson that I could find the stop pin to finish my review.

The Lord himself smiled down- he was wearing that black tie and dress shirt, surrounded

by 1000 flaming dismembered pig heads.. and I found it.

This of course is not a reflection on the construction of the knife- but a reflection

of my poor character and terrible sense of humor.

The testament is, I was able to fix the knife and return it's operation to normal boring

every day carry things.

Like cutting.

So if you like this sort of review, subscribe to my channel, give the video a thumbs up,

leave a comment.

I started my Patreon recently- you're like yeah I know I saw you groveling on Instagram-

I'll link it in the video description.

Signing up for a donation there helps me afford stuff to review for the channel when companies

don't answer my emails.

I feel like there's a chance for self reflection here to take some personal responsibility.

You know that thing you think everyone else should take.

Yes the problem is other people don't take personal responsibility.

That's it.

That's why I started a Patreon.

Although Kershaw did send me this knife to review- so that's cool.

Patreon also helps pay to maintain my camera and video making equipment.

If you're watching this video that means I was able to successfully upgrade my failing

hard drive in my 2011 iMac I bought in 2012 as a refurbished unit.

If you don't see this video in the last week of July- well some stuff went down and it

took longer than expected.

Also if you like occasionally giveaways and photos of knives follow me on instagram.

However if you don't want to join instagram for a crappy giveaway it's not my problem.

Thanks for watching!

Fitness for the Transformational Trek - Duration: 1:24.

Hi, this is Cat from Reach the Peak, and I'm out on the journey of the

Transformational Trek, just doing a quick recce. I just wanted to talk a little

bit about fitness - lots of the things that people say to me are "Ah, I'm not sure if

I'm fit enough to come walking for three days." And the answer is - you probably are!

There's kind of two key requirements - one is can you walk? The other one is can you

breathe? And if you can do those things together at the same time, then yes, you

are fit enough, pretty much. Sometimes the breathing going on some of the little up

hills we do, you can get a little bit puffed out, but that's absolutely fine.

Extra bonus points if you can also talk while you're walking and breathing, but

that's kind of optional... We take lots of breaks as we go along - we always try and

walk at the pace of the slowest person. And that might be someone different

every day, just depending on how they're feeling, whether it's uphill, whether it's

downhill, whether it's on the flat and so, yeah, we always try and walk at the pace

of the slowest person, and make sure that everybody feels really comfortable with

the pace. There's lots of time allowed in the day for the length of route that

we've got to do, so we take plenty of stops for snacks,

for coaching, for lunch, if we've got a flask of tea with us as well, so, yeah,

really not to worry about the fitness. And obviously, doing a little bit of

exercise before you come, just to get a little bit fitter is always going to help,

but it's certainly not a requirement. So if you've got any questions about your

fitness, or wondering whether you might be suitable, then please do give me a

call, thanks.
