activities for kids
let's learn the numbers with lego duplo bricks
today I'm going to be showing you how to introduce your
child to numbers using LEGO DUPLO bricks
so, shall we get started yeah yeah
for this really fun and simple activity
write numbers 1 to 10 or higher for
older children on the sticky part of a
post-it and cut out
stick the numbers onto 10 LEGO DUPLO bricks and you and
your child can play building a number line
so mummy's gonna muddle them out
yeah yeah
now you are confused where's all the numbers gone?
so can you find number 1
1 ok
split down and then put number 2 on top
where is two?
- yeah well done, on top of 1
stick them together
and then can you find 3?
3, well done and where's number 4 hiding?
oh you did it well done
numero 9
and what's left
oh my goodness!!
smashed it
you knew all of those.
I'm so impressed.
you can say many numbers
This is eight.
EIGHT?
Well done!
I didn't even know you knew those numbers
and ten.
I didn't have any idea Finn knew all these numbers
you're too clever for school.
You gotta stay at home with me, you're too clever.
perhaps we do another one
are you ready? so number two is Lego Duplo sums.
I have very simply cut out a plus, an equal and a minus
I'm gonna see this clever boy here surprising me today
and do some very simple sums
I'm gonna give you one brick plus one brick equals
equals..
that's right that's equal sign
you need to know that at school
so how many does it equal?
that one plus that one
that's right maybe you can put the two together
because you're adding it together, you can put that
one on top of that one
if you've had one plus one equals and then put it jump over there equal to the end
how many do you got now?
Two..
Two?
So you have just learned how to do sum, mister.
So do it again
if you took that one away from that one so take the same one the purple
that's right and then note we take away one
so how many have you got left?
one.
show me with your fingers.
one.
I'm so proud of you.
you added a minus
you're too clever.
it's actually a really visual way of teaching
I'm very impressed.
let's do number three
for this activity stick two pieces of paper together and
draw ten columns the width of your LEGO DUPLO bricks like I'm doing here
add numbers one to ten at the bottom of each column
so look at what mummy made and next time we're gonna do counting to ten yeah yeah
okay now can you pick three to go there maybe three purple ones
right but there's too many there isn't there
that doesn't look like three to me
yeah.
three you took one away now you've got three
just lie those three there around number three.
perfect!
okay to get four green ones
one, two, three, four.
well done.
Finn is doing so well and I really to be honest would
not have sat down and done numbers in this way with him
I probably would have done it in a really boring way maybe
with a book and made it feel a bit like work
because I'm just learning how to sort of be a mum and help out at home
this is so much fun for the two of us and I've been amazed and impressed
by how much he knows, and he's super engaged
can I get you another one?
do you want me to get you one more?
what color do you want?
another purple okay leave it with me
there's loads in here watch I just hit the jackpot
do I need one
we did it together bye bye
