Waching daily May 28 2018

Today's video is going to be a bit special, it's a bit different.

We are not going to talk about politics, instead, we we wanted to tell you a bit more about

VisualPolitik itself.

In other words, we are going to talk about this channel because we have important news

to tell you.

A a few weeks ago we marked the one year anniversary of this channel.

Today, we're well on our way to half a million subscribers, and everyday 100,000 people view

a video.

Whenever you start something new like a business or a YouTube channel there's always risk.

And honestly we all at VisualPolitik felt that starting a political channel on YouTube

was a particularly big one…

Informed, rather than sensational politics on YouTube, is not exactly a super hot topic.

It's not an exciting vlog, or gaming, or even top 10 lists!

And we didn't really expect this channel it to grow the way that it has.

Now, many of you have asked us, in comments and emails…

Why do we do this?

How did we get started?

Who is involved?

As many of you might know, this is not my first channel.

In fact, I have 3 other YouTube projects on the go.

So what made me chose to start this one?

What made me think this was a good idea?

An idea worth the risk?

Well, in this video, I want to tell you that story.

WHY DID WE CREATE THIS CHANNEL?

No matter where you are watching this video from, I'm willing to bet there is PLENTY

of media coverage about politics.

I'm sure there are news outlets and political talk shows of all stripes, satisfying both

sides of the political spectrum...

And I don't want to be critical because many of them really do truly outstanding journlism.

But, in general, they have two issues.

The first one is emotion.

The media playbook on politics says that people watch news to confirm their views.

If you are conservative, you will watch conservative news and the same goes if you are liberal.

Media gurus will tell you that the way you make politics appealing is by showing emotions

and showing confrontation.

This is exactly why so many shows tend to exaggerate their political positions - it

creates a bigger conflict.

Chances are, you already knew that.

But I said there were two issues, and the second one, you might not be familiar with.

You see, by definition, journalists are focused on exceptional facts.

Consider this journalism aphorism:

'A dog biting a kid is not newsworthy, but a kid biting a dog is'

This has been the cornerstone of political news since…well, kinda forever...

Let me give you a more real world example: anytime an oil tanker sinks, it hits the news.

On and on go the extensive reports, the interviews with experts, and all kinds of extended analysis...

But nobody is talking about all the thousands of oil tankers that don't sink, all the

thousands that make it to their destination on schedule and without problems.

And, despite what you might think from the media coverage, those ships, the ones that

just go about their journey, they have a far bigger impact on your life.

As an example, I'm willing to bet that the price of fuel for you car affects you far

more than any oil tanker sinking...

But the reality is we build our perception on reality based on those rare happenings,

not on the normal, everyday realities of life.

This leads us to not really understand the reality of life at all…

How about another example?

This one a bit more "VisualPolitik".

Africa.

Unless you are a regular VisualPolitik viewer, you might still think of Africa as an entire

continent full of poverty and misery.

Why?

Because when a journalist talks about Africa, he talks about those exceptional things: a

war in Congo, corruption in Angola, starvation in Somalia…

And on, And on...

Economic progress isn't some exceptional event.

It's something that ticks along, little by little, day by day…

Never really a big enough story to make the headlines....

And headlines, that's what people read, that's what people have been conditioned

to care about.

And it's not just Africa.

It's the world.

Ask the man on the street what the status of the world today is, and he's probably

not going to be full of optimism.

The world is war, is poverty, is corruption...

But you know what the dog biting the kid of this story is?

The oil tanker that arrives safely to its destination?

Well, that's the simple fact, that we live in the best time in history.

And this is not an optimistic, dream-like, viewpoint.

It's absolutely fact based.

We've got the growing middle class in Asia, a clear path to the elimination of starvation

in Africa, and life expectancy is higher than ever before, pretty much everywhere...

Our hope, that if you are watching this video, you want a realistic view on what the world.

Not one slanted by the popular medias desperate need to show you conflict and emotion…

And this isn't just about giving you an informed opinion for the sake of it.

It's about giving you an informed opinion because many negative elements of society

take advantage of people who believe that the world is in trouble.

Very little is better at polarizing a society, stirring up populist movements, and on the

micro level, even causing us to make bad decision in our day to day lives.

Okay, so big talk, but what does VisualPolitik has to offer you here?

Well, we're here for context.

We're not competing with traditional media, and the 24 hour news cycle.

And don't get me wrong, it's great to read newspapers and watch TV news.

They are going to tell you the daily news, but we are going to give you the trends and

the movements that are changing our entire world.

This is why we love so much to compare one country to another, or dive into the history

of a situation in depth before we tell you what's happening in the present day.

Context is so important, and it's so often missed by TV news because they need to get

to the story that is breaking that day, that hour, that minute...

But most important of all, we do this while keeping our independence.

Not every media outlet, or even YouTube channel can say this, but VisualPolitik is 100% independent.

There's no think tank behind the scenes writing cheques, there's no company providing

us with a fancy office, or a political party peddling influence.

There's no hidden agenda.

We publish our content in English and Spanish and we are 100% funded by our own resources.

So why do I say 'we' instead of 'I'?

As you can imagine, behind me, there is a team helping me to create the best content

possible.

We are four people if you include myself.

If you want to see the other guys behind the team check out our Spanish language channel,

they all also present on there!

And this is not an easy job.

Behind the scenes of video, there is between 15 and 25 hours of research.

All of our sources have been double-checked and we make sure that all our stories meet

the highest standards.

And then comes the writing, and the editing, and the recording, and the production, and

the channel management… and on and on.

Alright, so I can hear some critics already!

"Do you really have no viewpoint?"

"No bias at all?"?

"Are we completely neutral when we talk about each and every issue?

Honestly, no.

In fact, nobody can be neutral when talking about politics.

Not even in theory.

From the very moment one topic is chosen over another, a point is already being made…

It's just inescapable.

So what is our view?

What is our bias then?

Well, I think its best described as a principle.

And that is simply: FREEDOM.

We believe freedom should be an absolutely core value of politics.

More specifically respect for the freedom and civil rights of people, to as greater

degree as possible.

Another principle we stand for cultural understanding.

We've consistently stated that free trade between countries and cooperation among people

are the best mechanisms for peace and prosperity on a global scale.

As we've demonstrated many, in many video, the evidence shows that isolationism and protectionism

do not lead to anything good...

But finally, our most important principle is to not to be dogmatic.

Everything we say it's fact based and, as we can have our minds changed if someone gives

us a good reason to change them.

This is why your feedback and your comments are so important for our project.

You, the viewer, provide us with new information and sources.

And many of our videos are made because one of you contacted us with information about

a country, and said why we should make a video about it.

So, that was a really long way to introduce you to something you probably already know.

But now let me tell you something you don't, let me tell you where we want to be.

A NEW STAGE IN VISUALPOLITIK

We wanna go further.

We want to make more content, more videos and in different formats.

We want to go to different places and show them to you, we want to introduce you to the

people behind the stories, the people who are changing the world we live in.

Oh, and we also really want to have our own website, with more VisualPolitik content.

In summary, we want to take VisualPolitik to the next level and take this community

we have built along with us.

And we need your help.

Many of you have already asked us why we don't have a PATREON page.

And the truth is… it's something we've been considering for a long time.

The truth is we realised, that if we want to do more, we need more, and we need a way

to do it while maintaining that, all important, independence.

And now everyone who wants to help us can.

If you want to, you can join us taking Visual Politik to the next level.

And just quickly for those who don't know about it, PATREON is a platform that connects

creators with those who want to contribute financially to that creator.

But look, we're not taking anything away, that's important to say.

The classic VisualPolitik videos that we post every week on YouTube will always be available,

to everyone, for free.

But now, for less that what you pay for a beer, you can make all our ideas: more videos,

more specials, a website, and even potentially books, a reality.

Further, you will get access to exclusive content and lots of other surprises.

If you click the link in the description box below, you can check out the web site and

learn more about the goals we have set.

And of course, you can choose the type of commitment you might want to have.

Finally, we want to use this opportunity to thank you all for your support.

Thanks to you, VisualPolitik is possible.

So to everyone who has watched and shared our videos, sent us music, sent us ideas,

left us comments…

THANK YOU.

I'm sure over the next year we'll continue to grow into an even greater community with

more possibilities.

And, without you, none of this its possible.

So, again, thank you so very much and I'll see you in the next video.

Who is Eyal Booker? Love Island 2018 contestant is a sexy male model and Instagram star - Duration: 5:29.

Who is Eyal Booker? Love Island 2018 contestant is a sexy male model and Instagram star

The first Love island beauty to be confirmed for the 2018 show is an aspiring TV host and also likes to pose a lot with his top off.

Love Island is back with its fourth series for a summer of love with a group of sexy singletons hoping to find their match made in Majorca.

Presented again by the newly engaged Caroline Flack, the half dressed hotties will couple up, praying they won't get dumped from the island.

There'll be plenty of glamour, drama and naked cuddles no doubt as the young stunners aim to find their 'one' and win the cash prize - voted for by the public at the end of the series.

One things for sure, they will all be very pleasing on the eye as the first contestant to be revealed - Eyal Booker - proves. Here's all you need to know about him along with plenty of shots of his abs.

Who is Eyal Booker?. Curly haired Eyal is a 22 year old lad originally from London but who now lives in Cape Town, South Africa - presumably because it's much easier to not wear clothes there.

Eyal is a big Instagram star - pretty much a prerequisite for Love Island - and he has a whopping 43,000 followers, including former Corrie star Georgia May Foote, who all enjoy the pics he shares of his 15 abs, which seem to make him smile a lot - and what a dazzling grin he has.

What else does Eyal do other than post on Instagram?.

Predictably he's a model, because it would be a crime for him not to be. He started out when he was a pretty 11 year old boy and signed to a kids agency called Truly Scrumptious.

He is now signed to Nevs Models in London - who Alex Beattie from last year's series is also with - and Full Circle Model Management in Cape Town and has worked for brands such as Adidas and Bang+Strike.

They have taken him off their sites since he signed to the show but is still listed with them along with his vital statistics.

He is 5'10, has an inside leg measurement of 31, takes a size 9 shoe, has brown curly hair and green eyes.

Eyal is also listed as a singer and was once in a band called EverYoung which was signed by independent record label Seymour Place Music from 2011 to 2015.

He went to the Sylvia Young Theatre part time until he was 16, so he's definitely going to be taking centre stage in the villa.

It seems he comes from a talented family as his older brothers - the equally exotically named Tal and Ariel also joined the kids' agency. What are his passions in life?.

On his Twitter page he describes himself as a wannabe presenter and Nature Boy and claims that to see beauty in anything you have to open your mind to everything - which is easy to say when you look like him.

So presumably he'll be a pretty deep chap and will be tending to the plants then… or not.

He likes to paddle board, swim and hike in his spare time and shares lots of snaps of himself doing so - with no shirt, naturally. He's going to fit right into Love Island.

When does Love Island start?. Series four starts on Monday June 4 on ITV2 at 9pm , which is when our social lives end.

The show will run for longer than the eight weeks of last year. The application form stated that contestants need to be free for a minimum of 10 weeks.

Caroline also confirmed it had been extended, presumably due to the success of last year's series.

"We are here for an extra week longer," she said. "And a week in Love Island relationships is like a year in real relationships - and a lot can happen in a year… It's going to be the longest ever.".

Elizabeth Warren is quietly working to defang Trump's 'Pocahontas' slur as 2020 looms - Duration: 12:01.

Elizabeth Warren is quietly working to defang Trump's 'Pocahontas' slur as 2020 looms

      Washington (CNN)Massachusetts Sen.

Elizabeth Warren has quietly waged a months-long, behind-the-scenes effort to put Pocahontas in the past.

President Donald Trump has used the slur since the 2016 presidential campaign to skewer her claims -- passed down through family stories, Warren says -- of Cherokee and Delaware ancestry.

Warren delivered her most forceful rebuttal yet during a speech at the National Congress of American Indians in February.

The speech opened a new chapter of Warren leaning into her heritage -- a move that could help her defuse a political landmine ahead of a potential 2020 presidential run by building goodwill with Native American leaders who could validate her claims and vouch for her advocacy on issues important to their communities.

Her outreach to Native American organizations and tribal leaders has continued in the months since that speech -- largely unreported and outside the public eye.

Since March, Warren has met 16 times with Native American groups and tribal leaders, at times bringing up the issue in those meetings.

Warren also attended Cherokee Day in Washington and toured Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma.

Read More Warren has also signed onto 13 bills directly affecting Native American tribes in the last year and in April introduced a bill that would provide $800 million annually to tribal governments as part of a 10-year, $100-billion package to fight the opioid epidemic.

And her digital team finally solved a two-year-old, Trump-inspired problem: Pocahontas.com no longer goes directly to her campaign homepage.

The Pocahontas political controversy is a subplot of a larger issue: Whether Warren materially benefited during her career as a law professor from claiming minority status.

For years she has insisted she did not.

Warrens claims about her ancestry first emerged as a controversy during her first run for office in the 2012 Senate race against Republican Scott Brown.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, as Warren hammered Trump while stumping for Hillary Clinton, Trump shot back with the nickname Pocahontas. Trump has kept it up from the White House, even using the slur during a November 2017 event honoring Native American veterans.

Warren consulted with Native American figures about how to respond to Trump before beginning her quiet outreach effort, largely consisting of meetings in her Washington office.

The day before her February speech, Warren met with Melanie Benjamin, the tribal chairwoman of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians in Minnesota.

Benjamin said Warren was seeking advice on how to address her ancestry -- stories shed been told about the Native American heritage of her mothers side of the family while growing up in Oklahoma -- when speaking with tribes.

She did bring up that whole issue about that (Pocahontas) label, and my advice to her -- and I used an example -- is that in Indian country, we are very community-oriented, she said.

We are those types of people where we will embrace you as part of our community and then we will recognize you as our community from there on. If you are told from Day One that you are that tribal person and that tribal home, thats who you are.

And thats the simplest way to explain that, Benjamin said.

Thats what I told her.

If you respect Indian country, we respect you, she said.

Go out and do the job, and itll be better for all of us. Warren ultimately sounded those themes in her speech.

My mothers family was part Native American.

And my daddys parents were bitterly opposed to their relationship.

So, in 1932, when Mother was 19 and Daddy had just turned 20, they eloped, Warren said then.

Warren has also consulted leading Native American figures in Democratic politics.

Addressing those issues that she hadnt addressed before has really allowed her to be in a position of speaking more freely and being even more committed to those values, said Rion Ramirez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committees Native American Council.

She herself would say it was long overdue.

It was something that needed to be addressed. Ramirez said he has spoken with Warren multiple times about issues facing Native American country.

He said he isnt sure of her future political plans but said her hearts in the right place and praised her opioid bill.

Shes long been in a position of being stuck in a corner, he said, where she wanted to do stuff but was apprehensive to do it, and now feels unchained. Without addressing Warrens claims about her ancestry, Native American leaders have largely praised her handling of the Pocahontas moniker in recent months, saying they are glad to have an advocate, no matter the political implications for Warren.

The timing is definitely suspicious, theres no question about that, said Gyasi Ross, a Blackfeet Nation activist and author.

At this point, there is a level of skepticism about the intent.

But, you know, man -- its appealing, and if she were to run for president, maybe this might be a good relationship. Asked by CNN about her outreach to Native American leaders and organizations, Warrens office listed the dates of her meetings but declined to comment any further.

In addition to the meetings, in March, Warrens digital team solved a problem that had lingered since at least June of 2016: The anonymous owner of the website Pocahontas.com had, since Trump began using the nickname, redirected visitors to Warrens campaign homepage.

In the weeks following her speech at the National Congress of American Indians, Warrens camp began to automatically send all traffic that came from Pocahontas.com to a new landing page.

It features a video of her February speech and urges the anonymous owner of Pocahontas.com to point their website to the National Indigenous Womens Resource Center instead. The website goes on to detail the captivity and sexual violence the young Native American woman known for her association with the Jamestown colonial settlement faced.

Warren has also addressed Native American issues in recent speeches.

In a late February floor speech about health care challenges facing Native Americans, Warren lambasted Trump for waiting until mid-February to nominate a commissioner of the Administration for Native Americans.

She pointed to delays in making appointments in the Justice and Labor departments in posts that affect Native Americans, as well.

These vacancies hit native communities hard, and they represent one more broken promise to native people, she said.

Warren also attended the Native American Indian Housing Councils annual legislative conference on Capitol Hill in early March.

In a speech there, she said block grants to fund at least 68,000 new housing units are needed on tribal land and complained that Trump had raised doubts about funding for Native American housing block grants.

The government should recognize that building safe, decent housing for Native people is a way to provide economic opportunity and stability, a way to provide self-determination, a way to provide hope, she said.

On April 30, Warren and her husband toured Choctaw Nation, an 11,000 square mile territory within Oklahomas boundaries with nearly 200,000 citizens.

She toured a regional medical clinic, where she hosted a roundtable discussion on the opioid epidemic with staff from the Choctaw Nation and other tribes.

She also visited a wellness center and read to children at a child development center.

Members of Congress dont often take the time to travel to Indian Country and we were happy that she did, said Choctaw Nation Chief Gary Batton.

Our staff had a great visit with her and we believe we left a lasting impression of the good things we are doing here.              .
