Mom says that we are too silly

Dad says that too, that we're too silly, and then he laughs

-Mom gets mad if we're fooling around. -She says we need to get ourselves together.

No. She gets angry, Christian. - No, I didn't say that

Staffers Say Trump Is OBSESSED With Deporting Immigrants - Duration: 3:51.

According to Donald Trump administration staffers, both current and former, who recently spoke

to the Washington Post, Donald Trump doesn't understand anything about immigration policy

here in the United States and more importantly, according to these staffers, he doesn't even

understand where and what the border between the United States and Mexico actually is.

Now keep in mind, this is the guy who's built his entire campaign and his administration

on sending people back over the border, and according to these staffers, he doesn't know

where it is.

He doesn't know what it is.

He just knows that he wants a wall along it so we can start throwing people back into

Mexico, over that wall.

Furthermore, Homeland Security Secretary Kirsten Nielsen, they've said that she is not a fan

of Donald Trump's wall idea.

She doesn't like it and her job has become basically impossible because she's trying

to teach Donald Trump what immigration policy is in the United States because staffers say

he doesn't even know what that is, and he's just getting mad at her because he wants her

to deport more people faster.

They have described Donald Trump as being obsessed with immigration here in the United

States, and, as if this story couldn't get any worse, here it goes getting worse.

Back in 2017, when Donald Trump was about to give his first joint, speech to a joint

session of Congress, excuse me.

He met in the Oval Office before the speech with Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller and

there were a few staffers present as well.

Miller and Kushner actually managed to get Donald Trump to soften his rhetoric a little

bit about immigrants before he gave this speech.

Apparently, he wanted to go in there and according to the staffers who were present, he wanted

to make up Hispanic sounding names, then associate them with some made up crime, and then say

that they had been deported because he thought the crowd would cheer wildly.

Donald Trump had proposed to Kushner and Miller, who for some reason had a stroke of lucidity

for a moment, decided tot alk him out of it, but the President wanted to lie to Congress,

make up fake people, fake crimes and a fake deportation just to see if they would give

him cheers like he gets at his rally.

Everything the president says is a lie.

I don't believe a word that comes out of this man's mouth, and neither should you.

Neither should anybody in this country.

Next time he gives a rally and says that oh yeah, we deported some guy who killed this

person and he was Hispanic, don't believe it.

We have evidence now, we have witnesses that he literally makes this stuff up, and he runs

it by his staff to see if they like it.

Apparently, according to the people in that room, Kushner and Miller both laughed at the

possibility of him doing this, but they ultimately stopped him.

I know a lot of think pieces have come out since the election, saying Donald Trump won

because of economic anxiety of Midwestern voters.

That's not what it was, ladies and gentlemen.

We know what Donald Trump is all about.

We know why he is obsessed with deporting dark-skinned people.

We don't even have to say it because we all know exactly what it is.

That is what Donald Trump built his campaign on.

That is what energized the alt right, and that is why the alt right feels so powerful

today.

Because they know that they've got a guy in the White House who thinks the same way they

do and hates the same kind of people that they hate.

Stanley Cup Final 2018: A longshot is about to pay off - Duration: 5:00.

Stanley Cup Final 2018: A longshot is about to pay off

Funny how the sporting world works out sometimes. Forty years ago, George McPhee and his childhood friend Brian MacLellan celebrated a national junior A championship together when their Guelph Holody Platers swept the Prince Albert Raiders to win the Centennial Cup.

Both players were named to the series all-star team.

McPhee and MacLellan went on to play together at Bowling Green University, where they won the 1981-82 MacNaughton Cup as the regular-season champions of their conference, and later spent a season as teammates with the 1985-86 New York Rangers.

After their playing careers ended, they worked together in management with the Washington Capitals, with McPhee as general manager and MacLellan as his assistant GM. Now, at age 59, the old friends are foes.

McPhee is the GM in Vegas, where he has steered the expansion Golden Knights on a remarkable run that has them in the Stanley Cup Final against MacLellan — now the GM in Washington — and the Capitals.

The best-of-seven championship series begins in Las Vegas on Monday night.

Its just another chapter in this crazy book that is our season, McPhee said. Weve texted a little bit. We talked [on Saturday]. Last time I saw him before that was at the [NHL] GMs meeting.

Its sort of gone this way, and hard to believe, but well enjoy it. It beats the jobs we had when we were kids and well see where this goes.

McPhee spent 17 seasons as the Capitals GM. He was at the helm 20 years ago when Washington made its first trip to the Stanley Cup final, only to be swept by the Detroit Red Wings.

MacLellan was working in the financial world when, in 2000, McPhee convinced his friend to take on a pro scouting role with the Capitals.

MacLellan worked his way through the ranks, became assistant GM and replaced McPhee when he was fired three seasons ago. Its kind of a weird experience, said MacLellan, who won a Stanley Cup as a player with the 1988-89 Calgary Flames.

We kind of have been texting back and forth about how strange it feels to have this line up the way it has. Its a little awkward, but its going to be a fun experience.

McPhee is responsible for 13 players on the current Capitals roster and has two of his Washington draft picks — Cody Eakin and Nate Schmidt — playing for the Golden Knights.

Nobody predicted the Golden Knights and Capitals would be playing for the Cup when the curtain was raised on the regular season eight months ago.

Vegas has written a story for the ages with its remarkable run as an expansion team. Meanwhile, the championship window had seemed to be closing for the Capitals until Alex Ovechkin and his teammates found their groove.

The Golden Knights have needed only 15 games to advance through three playoff rounds, going 12-3, while Washington has won eight of its 10 road games in this post-season — two road wins from matching the playoff record.

This series also marks the sixth time in NHL history that two franchises that have not won a Stanley Cup meet in the final, and the first time since the 2007 final between the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators.

The Golden Knights won both regular-season games against the Capitals — 3-0 on Dec. 23 in Vegas (Marc-Andre Fleury had a 26-save shutout) and 4-3 on Feb. 4 in Washington (Reilly Smith scored twice for the Golden Knights).

Here are five storylines to follow as the teams face off for the Stanley Cup:. Ovechkin on a mission.

After 13 seasons, 1,119 combined regular-season and playoff games and 665 combined goals, a 32-year-old Alex Ovechkin has finally made it to the final. Ovechkin has played like a man on a mission in this post-season with 12 goals in 19 games.

He is trying to become the first Russian captain to win a Stanley Cup and only the third player to win his first Cup after scoring 600 regular-regular goals.

Luc Robitaille and Dave Andreychuk were the first two, with the 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings and 2003-04 Tampa Bay Lightning, respectively. Fleury saving the day.

Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and his Capitals counterpart, Braden Holtby, have played massive roles in helping their teams advance to the final.

The 33-year-old Fleury, who has three Stanley Cup rings from his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, has an outstanding .947 save percentage and league-leading four shutouts in this years playoffs.

His next win will be his 75th career playoff victory to push him into seventh place on the all-time list.

The 28-year-old Holtby enters the final riding back-to-back shutouts and a scoreless streak of 157 minutes and 13 seconds, not including the 2:14 he was on the bench for an extra skater at the end of Game 5 of the East final against the Lightning.

Golden Knights defenceman Nate Schmidt was the player the Capitals lost in the expansion draft.

After the Capitals acquired defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk from the St. Louis Blues at the 2017 trade deadline, Schmidt was scratched for 14 of the final 21 regular-season games and only saw action in the playoffs after Karl Alzner was injured.

With the Golden Knights, Schmidt is on the shutdown pairing alongside Brayden McNabb and has averaged a team-leading 24:53 of ice time a game.

Which team has the most Canadian-born players? The Golden Knights with 14 (Fleury, Engelland, McNabb, Theodore, Smith, Marchessault, Miller, Neal, Perron, Eakin, Carrier, Reaves, Subban, Legace). The Capitals have seven Canadians (Holtby, Wilson, Stephenson, Smith-Pelly, Beagle, Connolly, Chiasson).

Career coaches get their shot. Capitals head coach Barry Trotz doesnt have a contract for next season. His Golden Knights counterpart, Gerard Gallant, was unemployed until he was hired 13 months ago as Vegass first head coach.

While this is the first trip to the final for both head coaches, both have been successful at other levels. Trotz guided the Capitals farm club in Portland to the 1993-94 Calder Cup.

Gallant steered the 2010-11 Saint John Sea Dogs to a Memorial Cup championship. Who was the last head coach to win a Calder Cup-Stanley Cup double? John Tortorella accomplished the feat with the 1995-96 Rochester Americans and 2003-04 Lightning.

The last coach to win a Memorial Cup and then a Stanley Cup was Claude Julien with the 1996-97 Hull Olympiques and 2010-11 Boston Bruins. This story is too good not to conclude with four of a kind.

Ariana Grande previews new Nicki Minaj collaboration 'The Light Is Coming

From Grandes new album Sweetener. Ariana Grande has shared a snippet from an upcoming collaboration with Nicki Minaj.

Grande is set to release her new album 'Sweetener' this summer. It includes the recent single 'No Tears Left To Cry'. On Sunday (May 27), Ariana posted a video of her lip-syncing along to a track called 'The Light Is Coming'.

The song features a verse from Minaj and Grande singing the lyrics: "The light is coming to get back everything the darkness stole".

Minaj later tweeted in response to Grande's clip: "Can't let a EFF boy EFF up my nice vibez! Yo Ariana come lemme gih u a high 5!!!!!!!!".

Grande recently responded to a fan's "absurd" criticism of her break-up with Mac Miller – and said that her former relationship was "toxic".

It was confirmed earlier this month that Grande and rapper Miller had "quietly cut off their romantic relationship after their work schedules became too busy". However, it was said that the pair remained on good terms.

Grande confirmed the news and described her ex as "one of my best friends in the world", adding that she "respects and adores him endlessly" and is "so proud of him".

Last week (May 22), a tweet from a fan of Miller went viral after he took aim at Grande in regards to the recent separation.

He posted: "Mac Miller totalling his G wagon and getting a DUI after Ariana Grande dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine is just the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood".

The 'One Last Time' pop star then responded to the fan, criticising the sexism in blaming her for Miller's actions.

"How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn't the case (just Cinderella is ab me)," Grande said.

"I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be.

She continued: "I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem.

Let's please stop doing that.".

Which is BETTER for You? The PANCAKE or the WAFFLE [ANSWERED LIVE NOW!] - Duration: 10:15.

Hey, everybody out there, Coach Dan Long with Get Lean in 12,

and we are live.

Thank you so much for joining in and stopping now on this feet.

Today, I'm going to answer the question

that everybody wants to know.

Which is better for you--

live right now, I'm going to answer--

pancakes or waffles?

Now, I know you see here, I got some

waffles that I just cooked up.

And they smell absolutely delicious.

Now, if you're a pancake or a waffle lover, or both,

and you're out there right now and you're

wondering, which one of these--

look at this.

Amazing.

Look at this waffle, right?

Which one of these amazing pieces

of breakfast foods, that you love to eat,

are healthier for you?

Now, my name's Coach Dan Long.

Thank you so much for stopping here today.

And we're live because I wanted to answer

this question for you, but I also

want you to know I have something special for you that

is at the end of this video.

So please, stick with me.

That link that's up above, don't click it just yet, OK?

I want to answer all the questions that you probably

have about pancakes or waffles, and how you too

can have a flat stomach and be able to get, if you want,

abs, or just a flat tummy, by eating pancakes or waffles.

OK, so let's go ahead and get into this right now.

The first thing is that you want to know about pancakes

is that, obviously, we know that they're fluffy, they're soft,

they're spongy, and they're cake-like, right?

So, again, as you can tell here with my pancake,

right, it's spongy inside, it's got that cakey type feel,

and it's nice and fluffy.

Well, that actually is going to help with the health.

I'm going to tell you about the waffle, in a second,

on why that helps you, because when it's cakey like that,

and it's also soft, there's a reason, because it's aerated,

right?

Now, let's talk about, also inside pancakes,

they're lower in fat than they are in waffles.

Why is that?

Because there's less fat inside and there's less sugar.

I'm going to go over that one in a second.

So with a waffle, it's crisp, light inside,

like funnel cakes, right, or donuts,

and sometimes they're fried.

Now, mine here-- as you can tell, my waffle here--

this is not fried.

This is actually done in my press, which I

have a waffle press right here.

But when you put a waffle inside the press, what

do you have to do?

You have to grease both sides of that,

otherwise it's going to stick.

So keep that in mind while we're talking about this, OK?

Now, because pancakes are lower in fat,

are they higher in sugar?

No.

Listen to this.

Waffles are high percentage of sugar

because you're trying to caramelize

the outside of the waffle.

Now, there's a lot of people--

I know when I go to Disney World-- they fry the waffles.

So waffle cones, waffles, a lot of times, they are fried.

But when you make them inside your home maker, which

you have for a waffle maker, right, you

have to grease both sides.

So that's important to remember because it's adding more fat.

Now, when it comes for the waffle,

I said it's higher in sugar.

It's also a higher percentage of fat

because for a crisp exterior, you

want to use the fat to make your waffle nice and crispy.

Now, these could be even crispier.

We like it on the light side.

I don't like to make them too crispy because all it's doing

is, again, it's adding more fat.

So now, back to the pancake--

lower sugar content inside pancakes

because the caramelization of a pancake is not important.

You want them nice and fluffy and you want them cake-like,

right?

Like we talked about up here, you

want them fluffy and soft and cake-like.

It's different for a waffle.

Waffle, you want it crisp.

You want to almost have that crunch when you're

eating your waffle because it's just that flavorful amazingness

when you eat that waffle.

Now, per 100 grams of pancake batter,

it's approximately 194 calories, 37 grams of carbs,

and 5 grams of protein.

Now, remember that when we talk about the waffle over here, OK?

So that's a lot of carbs.

Obviously, we know that, because a pancake, right?

It's filled with carbohydrates.

But per 100 grams, it's only 194 calories.

Now, let's go over to the waffle--

higher in fat, we talked about, for a crisp exterior,

per 100 grams of batter, 291 calories versus the 194.

Now remember, this is going off of 100 grams of batter.

OK.

You got 33 grams of carbs and 8 grams of protein.

So protein is a little higher in your waffle,

right, little less over here, but you're

going to get more calories out of the waffle

than you would the pancake.

OK.

Now, next is the pancake is high in sodium.

It's 628 milligrams and about 12 milligrams of cholesterol.

So if you have high cholesterol issues and/or high blood

pressure, this could be a factor if you are salt-sensitive.

Not everyone is.

So don't get too worked up.

But when you come over to the waffle,

waffle now, here we go--

high sodium, 511 milligrams, 69 milligrams

of cholesterol versus, over here,

12 milligrams of cholesterol.

Way higher in cholesterol when it comes to the waffle.

Because why?

Because there's more sugar.

What else?

There's more carbohydrates, and there's

eggs, and all this good stuff that's in there,

but it causes fat.

Well, the fat causes cholesterol issues, which

can block your arteries, right?

So higher in sodium over here for the pancake,

lower in cholesterol, but a little lower

in the sodium for the waffle, and 69 milligrams

of cholesterol, which is over four times its weight.

That's about six times the amount of cholesterol

inside the waffle.

Now, the one great benefit, also from the pancake,

is it's packed with vitamins and minerals, packed

with vitamins and minerals.

But guess what?

The waffle is also packed with vitamins and minerals.

So do you love the pancake, or do you love the waffle,

or do you love the waffle, or do you love the pancake?

I don't know about you, but I love both.

My wife, she loves the waffle.

Every time we go somewhere, especially

on brunch on Sundays, it's all about waffles.

The waffle is an amazing thing.

But I am going to let you know, by statistic wise,

pancakes are healthier for you.

So you can do the waffle.

You can do the pancake.

But what you need to do is you need

to remember that if you do either one, the most

important thing that you have to remember,

especially if you're over the age of 35

and you're suffering from hormonal shifts, where

your metabolism is obviously slowing down because the belly

fat hormone is being affected--

that nasty one called cortisol, and that's

what builds the belly fat--

but waffles and pancakes will build belly fat

if you do not exercise in a method

that we call metabolic bursting.

If you want a system, and you need

a system that will help you get that flat stomach or that six

pack of abs eating these amazing waffles, right,

or eating these amazing pancakes,

I have the perfect system for you.

It is called the Over 40 Ab Solution

and it goes amazing with eating foods like this because you

can still eat foods like this.

You can use the three zones that are inside this system.

And the one that works the most is called metabolic bursting.

OK.

Inside this program, which you're

going to see at this link up above, is called the Over 40

Ab Solution.

It is specifically designed for anyone who over the age of 35

and is suffering-- if you're in your 40s, 50s, or 60s,

and even 70 or above--

if your hormones are suffering and you

need a system that can help you get that flat tummy in just

a matter of days, then I have the system for you.

I want you to click this link up above.

All right.

It's going to take you to a system that you can use,

starting right now.

Now, the great thing about that is

is that we have so many success stories.

But here's what I want you to do today.

Two things-- one, if you have an amazing recipe

for a pancake or a waffle, OK, if you have an amazing recipe

and you love pancakes, or you love waffles,

I want you to do me a favor and paste your recipe down below

for all our followers.

We are now over 100,000 likes strong on our page

sharing your amazing stories.

So the second thing I want you to do

is, one, paste down a recipe, if you

have your favorite grandma's recipe,

or maybe you created your own recipe, that you can share,

right.

These are not on the healthy side.

OK.

This would be something that I would definitely

eat as a cheat.

But there are recipes that are for pancakes and for waffles

that are healthier.

And I would love to hear from you,

if you would paste that down below in the comments, right.

Say hi to me, right.

Also, do me a favor, if Over 40 Ab Solution

is doing something great for you, down in comments blow,

Tiger Mother talks tribalism: Amy Chua on why U.S. society is slipping into perilous territory - Duration: 4:53.

Tiger Mother talks tribalism: Amy Chua on why U.S. society is slipping into perilous territory

If youve heard or uttered the words Tiger Mom, then chances are you know who Amy Chua is.

But unless youre someone who happens to read popular non-fiction about law and foreign policy, you might not know that among other things, Chua is also an expert on foreign policy.

While the firestorm ignited by Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother may have made her a household name in parenting circles, her latest title has nothing to do with controversial approaches to child-rearing.

Rather, Political Tribes: Group Instinct and The Fate of Nations is about ethnic and cultural rivalries, and the profound impact they have on people and nations.

The 55-year-old Yale law professor argues that if the U.S. wants to avoid making foreign policy blunders and getting embroiled in unwinnable wars, it must stop being blind to the realities of political tribalism abroad.

And, she adds, if we want to save our nation, we need to come to grips with its growing power at home.

Chua says the U.S. is falling victim to a dangerous social phenomenon that has, until now, been more typical of developing and non-Western countries.

She says the signs include ethno-nationalist movements, backlash against both the establishment and outsider minorities — and above all, the transformation of democracy into an engine of zero-sum political tribalism. When facts start not to matter.

In an interview with The Nationals Rosemary Barton, Chua describes human beings as inherently tribal creatures.

We need to belong to groups. And once we connect with a group, our tendency is to want to cling to it and to defend it, and to think its better than every other group..

She adds that this isnt always a bad thing. Family can be very tribalistic, and sports is very tribal.

The problem is when tribalism takes over a political system. Thats dangerous, because then you start to see everything through the lens of your own tribe and facts start not to matter..

Chua says society is going through an unprecedented period in America. Its demographics are changing, and white Americans face the prospect of becoming a minority. When groups feel threatened, they retreat into tribalism, she writes in her book.

When groups feel mistreated or disrespected, they close ranks and become more insular, more defensive, more punitive, more us-versus-them. In America today, every group feels this way to an extent..

Chua says she experienced the impact of what she calls the tribal mindset in a different context when she wrote the book that made her infamous around the world.

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Motherwas released in 2011, and it immediately polarized opinions on that most universal and primal of human functions: raising children.

Her descriptions of denying her daughters sleep-overs, making them practice piano or violin for hours a day, and threatening to set their stuffed toys on fire if her expectations werent met provoked outrage and even death threats.

When the Wall Street Journal released an excerpt with the headline Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior, it fed into anxieties about both parenting and China itself. However, Chua tells CBC News the book was deeply misunderstood.

What she intended as a semi-satirical memoir about the costs and rewards of her arguably extreme parenting style instead came to be seen as a deliberately provocative how-to guide.

She says all the nuance in her book was lost when both critics and fans seized on the parts that reflected their own experiences.

More than half the people were like, this is a parenting manifesto … Im so glad you did this, Chua says.

I would write back and say, Im not saying its better! I am saying that Im proud I did it this way, and I certainly am a high-expectations person.

But I didnt write it as a way to persuade other people to do this.. Others, meanwhile, were enraged at Chua for promoting parenting tactics that fed into damaging stereotypical views of Asian Americans.

Betty Ming Liu, the daughter of Chinese immigrants, was one of those who railed at Chuas ideas.

On her blog, Liu described Chua as representing lunatic, prestige-whoring Chinese parents. And she told the New York Times, Im horrified that shes American-born and hanging on to this when most us are trying to escape it.. Blinded to basic humanity.

Chua says the aftermath of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother made her more cautious about expressing opinions.

But she decided it was time to go back to her foreign policy roots in a new book after an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher back in 2014, where she talked about Ukrainian nationalism.

The seeds of what would become Political Tribes were sown when Chua was faced with a barrage of tweets questioning why the Tiger Mom was qualified to talk about topics like the Crimean crisis.

I was getting sick of everywhere I was going, being referred to as Tiger Mom, the Yale professor says.

Still, looking back now, Chua says those reactions gave her unique insight into what its like when tribal thinking blinds people to the basic humanity of others they disagree with.

At a very gut level, that experience I think alerted me to the dangers of that tribal mindset, because it was really intense.

Chua says she wants to be clear that she didnt write Political Tribes as a conscious response to what she faced in the aftermath of Battle Hymn of The Tiger Mother.

But the experience did inform her understanding of how dangerous the tribal mindset can be. I think a key part of it is that I experienced the destructiveness of tribalism. It was a harrowing, really difficult period, she says.

I do write about that in the political context. Whether its Sunnis or Shias, or pro-Trump or anti-Trump, once tribalism takes over the political system its easy to demonize or dehumanize the other side. And thats exactly what happened to me..

Besides lava and ash, Hawaii volcano is pumping out 'vog' - Duration: 7:53.

Besides lava and ash, Hawaii volcano is pumping out 'vog'

HONOLULU — Kilauea volcano on Hawaiis Big Island has had it all over the past three weeks: molten rock shooting toward the sky, lava oozing from the ground and ash clouds rising miles into the air.

You can also add vog to the mix.

Scientists say higher sulfur dioxide emissions recorded at the volcanos vents in recent days are creating the potential for heavier than usual vog, or volcanic smog.

So far, trade winds have been mostly blowing the gray haze offshore.

WHAT IS VOG?.

Volcanic smog, or air pollution, is created by vapor, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide gas released from Kilauea.

It reacts in the atmosphere with oxygen, sunlight, moisture and other gases and particles.

In a matter of hours or days, it converts to fine particles that scatter sunlight, creating a haze that can be seen downwind of Kilauea, according to The Interagency Vog Dashboard, which is made up of Hawaii, U.S.

and international agencies. The U.S.

Geological Survey said sulfur dioxide emissions from the volcano have more than doubled since the current eruption began.

Kilauea was belching 15,000 tons (13,607 metric tons) of the gas each day, up from 6,000 tons (5,443 metric tons) daily prior to the May 3 eruption.

People living miles from the eruption are paying attention to the amount of noxious fumes pouring out of the volcano because it creates potential for more vog.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH IMPACTS?.

Everyone is having symptoms now on some level, said Dr.

Josh Green, a state senator and emergency room physician who has been volunteering in communities where lava fissures have opened in neighborhoods.

Symptoms for generally healthy people can include burning eyes, headaches and sore throats.

But those with asthma or other respiratory problems can end up hospitalized.

Those who are healthy, physically active and dont smoke can usually tolerate basic symptoms, Green said, adding hospitals are seeing more patients with difficulty breathing.

Greens mom, Natasha Green, who lives on the Kona side of the island, said the vog was particularly bad on Tuesday.

It makes it very hard to breathe, she said, adding that her other symptoms include coughing and watery and stinging eyes.

Shes had to use an inhaler, which she doesnt need when there isnt vog.

Shes a former smoker, so thats probably part of the problem, she said.

WHO IS AFFECTED?.

Vog can affect areas far from the volcano, including the western side of the Big Island and even other islands.

But lately, trade winds have been blowing most of the vog offshore.

The National Weather Service said it expected trade winds to slow this weekend, creating hazardous air quality.

With trade winds, communities where lava fissures have opened and those downwind are the most affected.

Kilauea is erupting on Hawaiis largest island, so there are plenty of areas that arent suffering from the effects of vog.

My phones been ringing off the hook, said Steven Businger, chairman of the University of Hawaiis atmospheric sciences department.

A little old lady out of Minnesota wants to know if she should cancel her vacation — that kind of thing..

He told her not to cancel because the vog was blowing away from her planned destination, the Big Island resort town of Waikoloa.

Businger also runs the Vog Measurement and Prediction Project.

The website provides current vog conditions for various sites around the Big Island.

IS THE VOG WORSE NOW?.

With an increase in emissions, theres more vog, said Lisa Young, environmental health specialist for the state health departments Clean Air Branch.

Bruce Corker, a Kona coffee farmer, has noticed.

When he looks down from his farm at Kailua Bay, its hard to make out the water because its the same gray color as the sky.

For me, its just visual, he said.

I dont feel any effects on my lungs.

I dont smell anything..

Corker, who grew up in Southern California, compares vog to Los Angeles-like smog.

WHAT ELSE?.

Retired photojournalist Chris Stewart says theres one good thing about vog: It intensifies the colors of a sunset.

But it depends on how thick the haze is.

Some days its thin enough you can see the sun passing through, he said.

But other days we just go inside because we cant see it at all..

Stewart said hes grateful to be living on the Big islands west side — away from the volcano.

I almost feel guilty enjoying our sunsets, he said.
