- [Oliver] I can't wait. San Francisco would be the first major
city in the United States to pass this issue or some people like to put it
modernize the voting age. My name is Oliver Sangu York. I am 17.
A lot of my friends are 18. And they're going to be voting
and I can't vote. Yes on F, F yes! Two of my best friends were going
off to college, and I asked them if they were going to vote, and they said they
didn't remember, that like that was a thing that people did.
I was shocked and I was thinking, "What are we doing wrong that that's not
an automatic thing that they see as their responsibility?"

People had a belief that we were trying to change the definition of adulthood
but we're not, we're just trying to close what's essentially a 10 to 15-year gap
in voting age turnout. A lot of young people don't actually start
voting until their late 20s.
♪ [music] ♪
We are uniquely non-partisan. Our goal is to create engagement.
- [Female 1] By looking at me today, would you have guessed that I
raised myself? Yet I am not mature enough to vote.
- Are you going to vote? We are a group of young people who are
actually pushing for change.
- [Female 2] 16-17-year-olds are the most mature and informed generation yet and
we are ready to vote.
- [Male] Because I see it as the first stepping stone into empowering not just
young people but immigrants from all backgrounds.
- My goal was to be part of the political activation of my peers.
And, in that sense, we have already succeeded.
