this is a Fox News Alert on Bret bear in New York tonight there appears to be a
major setback in what has been widely perceived as progress toward peace and
the elimination of nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula North Korea is
threatening to cancel next month's summit between Kim jong-un and President
Trump over military drills going on right now involving the u.s. and South
Korea let's get the latest tonight from senior foreign affairs correspondent
Greg Powell County man Greg hi Brett yeah this news was reported by the
Yonhap South Korean news agency early Wednesday morning it could very well be
a wake-up call to some who thought the things that completely changed between
Pyongyang and Washington signs of turbulence in a recently smooth flying
relationship between North Korea and the u.s. young yang branding current u.s.
South Korea air exercises provocative canceling a meeting plan for Wednesday
between North and South Korean officials at the DMZ North Korea's state media
going on to say the United States will also have to undertake careful
deliberations about the fate of the planned North Korea u.s. summit in light
of this provocative military ruckus jointly conducted with the South Korean
authorities State Department said the drills are not provocative Kim jong-un
had said that he understands the importance to the United States that we
conduct these joint exercises these joint exercises continue to go on as for
the summit plan for Singapore in June involving North Korean leader Kim
jong-un and president Trump Washington is going forward with planning some
however were cautious about Kim Jong Un's recent warm words I don't think we
should trust them on the other hand I think it's good we're having a direct
dialogue I have called for that over time
and I think there are some positive signs recently that this summit in
singapore could be successful in fact new satellite images show North Korea is
going ahead with dismantling its nuclear test site it is set to be shut down next
week the US remains focused on getting rid of its nukes
there's certainly gonna be prioritization on the first in the first
instance on denuclearization because that's the goal that we've said still is
I'm worried even if the North does show up at the summit they only offer phased
disarmament to the United States United State will do not accept the kind of
incremental approach when Kim jong-un sees president Trump reseal the poll he
should give us something big to present Trump a statement the White House
released just a short time ago said we are aware of the South Korean media
report the United States will look at what North Korea has said independently
and continue to coordinate with our allies a lot to follow Brett will follow
it Gregg thank you more on this with the panel the president's nominee to run the
CIA is issuing her strongest statement yet the agency's role in the enhanced
interrogation program following 9/11 Jena hospital now says it should have
never taken place the comments come in a letter to senators as the Trump
administration works to try to shore up support for her comment confirmation
amid an intensifying public debate over torture at this time tonight
it appears Haspel has the votes to be confirmed a committee vote is set for
tomorrow meantime another of the president's picks - a key national
security position appears to be against the president's decision to reverse
course on tough penalties against a major Chinese telecom company chief
intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge has the latest on that tonight
from Capitol Hill the president's nominee to track terrorists encounter
threats singled out Chinese made phones as high-risk would you recommend anyone
in any sort of position that's sensitive whether in commerce and government
during contracting uses ET phone with the recent u.s. ban on exports to the
Chinese phone maker lawmakers heard that Beijing uses technology to info
networks and steel Americans personal information china utilizes its
telecommunication companies for purposes of espionage even if those companies
leadership may not be open to it they don't really have a choice but to be
cooperative sir Rubio we've been on the record in the intelligence community and
law enforcement of that fact the president's Monday tweet that he wanted
to help save ZTE as part of a larger trade deal with China drew criticism
from other lawmakers does it make sense to overrule the advice and judgment of
the national security community and to offer ZTE a way to get back into
business fast how are you raising those facts with
with this White House we are garnering the support of the entire intelligence
community and regulatory community and as a matter of fact I think we've had
meetings as well as recent yesterday at the White House in a letter to the
president 32 Senate Democrats said he should put American jobs and national
security ahead of Chinese business interests he should keep the ban on ZTE
it was the first time we showed China that we were going to be tough and meant
business and no sooner than that happens the president backs off that for
American jobs on Russian meddling in the midterm elections I don't think anyone
in my profession or the intelligence community will and underestimate the
potential of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with intelligence
services and their capabilities most importantly their intent and a new
warning about sophisticated doctored videos called deep fakes the deep fake
the idea of being able to create an alternative reality if you add to that
the powers of social media it's a perfect storm of disinformation I think
we saw in the last election cycle their intent is there and retreat abilities
are clearly their filmmakers were also told that a growing number of foreign
adversaries have the cyber capability to remotely access traditional intelligence
targets and to infiltrate critical US infrastructure and to do it without
attribution Brett catherine herridge live on the hill can
thank you president Trump is trying to rally Senate Republicans to push through
more of his nominees and the push harder toward holding on to their majority in
November but there continues to be a separate push among senators for some
kind of response to an insult against one of their own chief White House
correspondent John Roberts is here with that story tonight from the North Lawn
TV John Gregg good evening to you just a few minutes ago the president returned
here to the White House he'd been up at the Walter Reed National Military
Medical Center visiting with the first lady that she continues to recover from
a kidney procedure earlier today he was on Capitol Hill spending time with
Senate Republicans pushing his legislative priorities president Trump
came to Capitol Hill today with a lot on his mind first and foremost the slow
pace of confirmations for his nominees the president casting the Democrat says
obstructionists who are standing in the way of getting his staff in place but
exiting the meeting senators preferred to focus on what's been done rather than
work out standing we were all in a celebratory mood as a result of having
approved the 21st Circuit Judge just a few moments ago President Trump had a
number of other items on his agenda to talk about including appropriations
making sure he doesn't get more omnibus spending bills funding for a border wall
and the latest developments with Iran and North Korea the president will also
again push Congress for immigration reform this morning he used the backdrop
of the annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service to drive home the
urgency that is why we are calling on Congress to secure our borders support
our border agents stop sanctuary cities and shut down policies that release
violent criminals back into our communities we don't want it any longer
we've had it enough is enough one topic that didn't come up even
though Iowa Senator Joni Ernst wanted to raise it was the cutting remark White
House staffer Kelly Sadler made about Senator John McCain anomie
last week a growing number of senators now saying Sadler the White House or
both should apologize the person who said that it should apologize and should
apologize publicly if I had said that I would apologize they're just things you
don't say and shouldn't say White House staffers tell FOX News Sadler could have
easily put the issue to rest by making a public apology to McCain last week and
according to sources that was initially the plan but the plan changed
Sadler dug in her heels in six days later the issue was gathering steam in
an effort to change the subject president Trump made the insult all
about the fact that was leaked tweeting the so-called leaks coming out of the
White House or a massive over-exaggeration put out by the fake
news media in order to make us look as bad as possible with that being said
leakers are traitors and cowards and we will find out who they are sources say
there were about 30 people in the meeting where the remark was made
officials believe it was leaked simply to damage the president and that there
will likely be repercussions I had several discussions with the
President on this very topic today do you expect personnel changes as a result
I do actually yes they do Kellyanne Conway said that she thinks
that a lot of staffers use leaks to try to quote Shiv each other and while leaks
are a tried-and-true tradition here in Washington DC this White House does seem
to have a set a new standard at least for the volume of agenda-driven leaks
Brett John Roberts thought of the North Lawn John thanks stocks were down today
the Dow lost 193 the S&P 500 dropped 19 the Nasdaq fell 60 as Palestinians hold
funeral processions for dozens of their own killed yesterday in protests at the

the great catastrophe Hamas which is in control of Gaza called on protesters to
breach the border fence despite warnings from Israel that there would be deadly
consequences instead of protesting many Gaza residents found themselves at the
funerals for the 60 people who died in yesterday's demonstrations coinciding
with the relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem more than 2,000 were wounded
hospitals in Gaza are unable to cope medicine blood and doctors are in short
supply making it difficult the Israeli military
released video of Monday's violence and says its actions were in self-defense
Israel says some of the demonstrators are Hamas operatives in the video
Palestinians can be seen trying to cut the border fence in one instance the
military says it opened fire when militants tossed pipe bombs and grenades
at soldiers at the UN ambassador nikki Haley came to Israel's defense I asked
my colleagues here in the Security Council who among us would accept this
type of activity on your border no one would no country in this chamber would
act with more restraint than Israel has the Palestinian UN Ambassador also
addressed the council asking diplomats how many Palestinians have to die before
you take action and in another development Palestinians say they are
recalling their US ambassador in protest over the relocation of the US Embassy to
Jerusalem Brett David Lee Miller live in Jerusalem thirdly thank you there is a
