short code?
So first of, let's talk about what is a dedicated short code?
A dedicated short code is a five to six-digit phone number that is used by brands to communicate
with consumers either inbound or outbound messaging on that phone number.
And a dedicated short code, unlike a shared short code, is dedicated to one specific brand.
That means one brand uses that one phone number.
A shared short code, on the other hand, means thousands or tens of thousands of brands may
use the same phone number.
So a dedicated short code, it cost one brand either $1000 a month or $500 a month.
Now, what makes the price so different is that a $1000 a month dedicated short code
is a vanity short code.
A vanity short code means that the brand has selected the phone number specifically, that
maybe because they like the number, the number has significance to them, the number spells
something on the dial pad for the consumer.
There's a bunch of different reasons why a brand wants a vanity short code.
The other type of short code which is $500, and again, it's a dedicated short code,
is a non-vanity or random or generic short code.
We have a bunch of different names for it.
As you can tell by the name, it is a phone number that is randomly generated and then
given to the brand.
So you're taking a risk there as a brand if you go with the non-vanity because you
might get a good phone number, but you might not get a good phone number.
And again, five to six digits, so, you know, it can vary.
