Waching daily Jan 3 2019

Hey everybody Brock Frady here helping you enjoy your ride.

I'm coming to you from the driver's seat of my 2014 Honda Pilot my wife and I

absolutely love this vehicle. We don't have a single complaint. It is absolutely

amazing however over the past couple of days

something funny has been happening. When we would walk out to the Pilot and all

the doors would be unlocked I would go around to the rear tailgate and try to

open it and nothing would happen. And I thought I remembered it being able to

open with a little rubber button that you push under the the handle and there

is a rubber pad under here. And with all the doors unlocked I would squeeze that

and nothing would happen and it was supposed to unlock. Here's kind of a

second thing that would happen. You see that right there? It says tailgate open. I

just got into the Pilot and I cut the engine on I'm just sitting in my

driveway. I cut the engine on and look all of a sudden the tailgate it says it

was open. Well right after I cut the engine on I heard the back lock like

unlock you know that electronic sound. It just went right and it unlocked and I'm

going to see if I can duplicate that right now. Let's go close the gate back now.

Okay. I'm gonna start it and see if I can get

it to do it again. See it and they just unlocked again so it is literally

unlocking and opening a little bit by itself. See it's kind of, see right there?

Look that's one issue. Now here's another issue that I was

dealing with this morning and I don't know if it has to do with the fact that

I'm parked on a hill. You can see my driveway is kind of steep but watch this

power tailgate.

Isn't that fantastic. I's closing now. It would not close earlier this morning. All

right so now let's try to do that whole thing over again.

Okay that's working now let's go see if it pops open by itself again. So it's

closing now just says door open. This morning my wife went out to run an

errand and she came back and she said that the tailgate had literally popped

open. It had done what I just showed you while she was driving.

Nothing so far. Everything's

going fine. Of course I did a little research on the blog called Piloteers.

That's actually a great blog I recommend it.

they're not endorsing me or anything but it's just it's just a great source of

information. One of the things that a member of the blog had said was that he

had issues, this same issue in that he put a little thin bead of sealant around

the door handle itself because he determined that water getting in was the

issue and it was affecting the I guess the door lock actuator and causing it to

trigger itself. I just don't want to put silicone on the body of my vehicle. Honda

has had some complaints about this door lock actuator engaging or disengaging

while you're driving down the road. Now I don't think the door would actually pop

open and in like come open because it has kind of like a safety catch there to

where it feels like it's open but it's like basically ajar. It's kind of like

when you go out to a car and you you close the door but you didn't push it

hard enough and it doesn't close all the way. So far it has done it pretty much

when you start start it so

nothing now I'm gonna open the tailgate. You can see behind me now the tailgate

is open. Let's hit the button and close it.

It's all good.

There's, there's just a seal there's a course of gasket that runs down in there

all under there on each side but then you know there's that rubber button on

the back of here. That is what you squeeze when the doors are unlocked in

order to open the back hatch and it seems that water could actually be

getting inside of there or the folks on this blog said that he thought that

water was getting into here or here and causing it to malfunction and you know

basically pop open by itself. That kind of made sense to me.

So here's what's been happening lately with our weather here in North Carolina

over the past month. We've gotten a foot of snow and about three inches of rain

and this has literally been the wettest year I think, I think in our area. It's

been the second wettest year in recorded history. It could be due to a wet thing.

There's just being so much water so here's what I'm gonna do as you can tell

from the video so far the back of this thing is the whole car is just

absolutely dirty and because it's just been raining all the time so I just

haven't washed it. It's not raining right now and it's supposed to continue to

rain tomorrow. I'm gonna take it to the car wash and I'm gonna wash it real

quick, make it pretty, and see if water getting down in there from the car wash

possibly causes it to malfunction again.

Stated a really good spray nice wash and that should have been sufficient to get

water down in the seals and if it is in the door-handle in that area as well the

past few minutes I've been driving it at regular you know city speeds 35-40 miles

an hour and nothing has come on at all. I'm going to see if anything happens at

like lower speeds because that's what happened this morning is that at lower

speeds it started unlocking. Gate open its all the way up

now.

I just got out of the car after being a little bit frustrated that it wasn't

doing anything. It's unlocked right now. Listen. Hear it? Listen I'm not doing

anything to it right now I think it's open a little bit I'm gonna see if it's

loose. Yeah look, I lock the doors.

Now I'm gonna unlock them

and it popped. See it's not supposed to do that. There it is again. Hear it? Listen

so check this out I think I've been found a way to duplicate it. I'm gonna

unlock the doors there it is let's see how loose so if you were to go out to

your car and unlock the doors and leave them unlocked then that's that's gonna

be literally opened. Now I'm gonna push it and it'll put it'll go closed. Whoa

and this is crazy all right so I'm gonna let it fall completely shut. There's that

other problem again you know what I think we may have found something with

water getting into it. All right, so check this out. It the door will not close now.

Watch nothing before I went to the carwash.

I open the door like this and it closed completely now it is not closing at all.

It's almost like it's triggered a safety system the cars telling itself that

something is in the way and it doesn't want to close. You can hear it trying to

engage right here. You hear the clicking?

Okay so now I'm gonna close it manually

and

okay I think the doors are still unlocked.

Okay so let's lock them.

Doors are left I think we found it.

Unlock.

And it's pop in the back so when i unlock when I hit unlocked twice it

actually pops the back.

And then yeah.

Unlock once unlocked twice three times it does it on the third time. Doors

locked. Alarm set one two three it didn't do it

just then crazy yeah and look the door just went down now. Oh there it did it

with one time. Then look at that it's completely opening while I've been

filming. I've been able to unlock all the doors with the remote and also kind of

pop the hatch. It's done it by itself by hitting unlock twice then I was able to

do it by hitting unlock once and then it just didn't do it at all. I don't know if

it's ajar right now or not. Then I was able to lock the doors,

set the alarm, unlock the doors and it did not pop itself ajar. I don't know how

to phrase that but so it's very intermittent and it's, it's, it's really

doing this since I've went and washed it. It was doing it this morning which is

the whole nature of me being out here filming this video period. So if you have

had this issue with yourPpilot or you know of any TSB that's technical service

bulletins from Honda to address this situation would you please let me know?

Put it in the comment section below because this is weird. Like I said, my

wife was driving it this morning and the back door and literally just popped

itself. It didn't come open all the way but it

came a jar a little bit and like, like I was just able to replicate so that's,

that's definitely, definitely an issue and I need to know

how to fix it. If you've got a Honda Pilot that you're dealing with this rear

tailgate issue with reach out to me let me know put it in the comments section

below and hopefully we can get some resolution to this. Thanks so much for

watching everybody and remember the most important thing of all even if you do

have a weird Honda Pilot rear door. Have a wonderful day everybody!

AskBOM: What is the monsoon? - Duration: 3:37.

The word 'monsoon' comes from an Arabic word meaning 'season' and when we talk

about monsoons we're generally referring to a seasonal wind that generates

widespread, persistent rainfall across a broad region. There are monsoonal regions

across most of the world's tropical areas, including northern Australia.

In northern Australia we have two distinct seasons: A dry season, which roughly

coincides with the southern winter; and a wet season, which peaks during the summer months.

When an active monsoon arrives the sky is filled with dark clouds,

we see widespread rain showers and thunderstorms, and these can last for a

few days or even a week or more. The Australian monsoon develops in response

to summertime heating over the northern Australian region, when the continent warms

at a faster rate than the surrounding oceans. This sets up a giant

sea breeze circulation, drawing in moisture from these oceans over the

lower pressure on the land. As the humidity progressively builds, a monsoon

trough (which is the focus for the rainfall and cloudiness) becomes

established over the Australian region. True monsoonal flow, with deep low-level

westerly winds, exists north of the trough; so when the trough moves south

over a location, this area becomes affected by monsoonal conditions.

An active monsoon period can be followed by an inactive or 'break' monsoon period, when

we return to pre-monsoon or build-up type weather conditions—dominated by

isolated showers and thunderstorms. Northern Australia typically sees about

three monsoon bursts each wet season, sometimes occurring as late as mid-April.

The end of the final monsoon bursts of the year is called the 'monsoon retreat'.

Before the onset of the much-anticipated monsoon, northerners endure the so-called build-up:

a time when we can go a bit troppo due to the extreme heat and humidity.

The cooling, refreshing rains of the monsoon provide welcome change from the build-up

and herald the annual transformation from a dry, brown

landscape to a lush, watery oasis. It's these monsoonal rains that deliver

the vast majority of the annual rainfall across most of tropical northern Australia.

Farmers, communities and the ecosystems which have evolved across Australia's

north depend on these monsoonal rains to replenish water storages and recharge natural aquifers.

These rains can of course create substantial flooding

and restrict movement across large areas. Climate factors such as whether it is El Niño

or La Niña can have a significant impact on monsoonal variability.

La Niña typically means earlier-than-normal monsoon onset, while El Niño is often

associated with rainfall during the monsoon season being less than average.

Another important climate driver is the Madden–Julian Oscillation or MJO.

It can have a significant impact on the timing of the active and inactive monsoon phases.

We often get asked why the monsoon is important for the rest of Australia.

During extended monsoon bursts, massive amounts of moisture build up

throughout the atmosphere of northern Australia. Under the right conditions,

weather systems across southern Australia tap into this tropical moisture—

meaning high humidity, showers and thunderstorms often leading to

widespread rainfall and even flooding across southern Australia.

But for northern Australia, the life cycle of the people and the environment is intimately

related to the annual monsoon.
