Root For Stan Wawrinka, The Artful Troll - Duration: 6:17.

Photo: Adam Pretty/Getty Images At his peak, Stan Wawrinka might be the best tennis player alive, but that peak is hard to find

Sometimes—right after winning his third major and reaching his career-high ranking, say—he's just a bed-headed lump, tumbling out of the first round of tournaments courtesy of the world No

91 or 72. This Wawrinka is the worst Wawrinka. But the best Wawrinka turns red-faced and Herculean, striking his backhand in a way that raises concerns for the welfare of the tennis ball, every winner a coup de grace

His appearance is difficult to divine. The only bait guaranteed to lure out the Stanimal is the prospect of playing a No

1 player, and even then, he's finicky: Wawrinka is 0-20 when playing the world's top player outside of a Grand Slam

In the finals of a Grand Slam, however, with more money, prestige, and sets to conquer, he's 3-0

Had today's match come one round later, he could have added Andy Murray to that pristine hitlist, after winning 6-7 (6), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(3) 6-1 in the semifinal of the French Open

Murray finally looked to be his waking from his season-long stupor, stealing both of his two sets after going down a break, but in the final set Wawrinka put him back to sleep

Murray will wake up on grass feeling a little better. This was Wawrinka's best performance of the tournament, and it will bring him to his second French Open final

He has never lost in the final or a major, and there are several reasons why you might want to support his cause this time around

If you like testy, high-risk sport—he hit 87 winners (and 77 unforced errors) against one of the most mulish defenders in the game

If you relish the humor in someone this indifferent stumbling into more majors than the yeoman Andy Murray

If you have a trollish streak in you, or you like to reward incandescent but flickering genius, or you have an ulterior motive to protect someone else's major title record, you'll find it nourishing to root for Wawrinka on Sunday

Here's a taste of what he let loose today, a torrent of untiring offense. The bruising backhand that he built his career on: A screamer of a passing shot after a long rally: A fading, possibly mishit drop shot to end this very odd point: Again, the backhand that can just wrench an opponent off the baseline, no matter how hard he wants to cling to it: And more on match point: Advertisement The arc of Wawrinka's career has tempted some to compress it into a pat morality tale about the value of long, hard work

Largely this is because he was very late to bloom, perhaps the latest bloomer the men's tour has ever seen, winning his first major at 28, and then two more, nudging his way onto the dais with the Big Four

Often he was cast as a rough-hewn, humble foil to his countryman, the truffle-sponsoring, private jet-taking, cream-blazer-clad Roger Federer

Wawrinka had spent his whole career in his elder's shadow—their head-to-head is still 20-3 overall—but then one day he blew right by him in straights in the quarterfinals of the 2015 French Open, and this was meant to be inspiring in a way

A triumph of country tough over slick luxury, or something. What is true is that Wawrinka grew up on a farm that his parents managed, with a therapeutic purpose, helping rehabilitate people suffering from mental illness

It's possible to read too much into his having grown up on a farm. Take this curiously quaint New York Times profile, with the headline "Country Boy Stan Wawrinka Patiently Ascends Tennis's Ladder," and a quasi-mystical kicker: He is decidedly country tough

The force he generates comes from the ground, and his deep roots in an unheralded hamlet in rural Switzerland

Advertisement Granted, he is very strong, but if this is the man you want to support—an upstanding, sturdy, reliable farmhand—you should not root for Stan Wawrinka

By any honest account, his inner life seems to be a roiling one. His game, in all its variance, with all its luminous highs and swampy lows, betrays a serious internal struggle

Before winning last year's U.S. Open final, he suffered an anxiety attack severe enough to bring him to tears

On court he can get prickly, susceptible to the very dumbest beef, like his Francophonic spat with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga over who was staring at whom—a petty, overheated older brother

When Wawrinka's marriage of six years fell apart in 2015, just as his career was cresting, his ex-wife Ilham Vuilloud, a Swiss model and television presenter, had this to report: No, trips and tournaments are not the cause of our separation

Besides, other players, ranked higher than him, handle family life very well. His instability, desire to regain his freedom—at all levels—are the source

And I have to admit the repeated fibs and emotional betrayals eventually destroyed entirely the confidence I had in him

Don't get fooled by the patient bumpkin shtick: There's a lot of turmoil in that perpetually disheveled head

Don't treat him as the simple-minded laborer who slowly toiled away at his sport and eventually found success

Embrace him as a strange, flawed, capricious dude who has always had the outright power to wipe the best players off the court, and now, relatively late in his playing career, has found a way to rein in his mind

In the final at Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal, who has yet to bleed a set, will surge towards his 10th title; you're welcome to pull for the consummate troll at the gate

Why Liverpool got Barcelona star Luis Suarez for so cheap during Kenny Dalglish spell - Duration: 2:28.

Liverpool signed Suarez from Ajax back in January 2011 after losing Fernando Torres to Chelsea

Torres had chosen to swap Anfield for Stamford Bridge in a huge £50million transfer - making him the UK's most-expensive footballer at the time

Liverpool landed Andy Carroll from Newcastle but also followed that up by signing Suarez on the cheap

The Uruguay international touched down on Merseyside for £22.7m from Ajax and went on to be money well spent

The 32-year-old spent three-and-a-half years at Anfield. And, during that time, he came close to delivering the Premier League title that Liverpool supporters crave

In today's climate, Suarez would cost a staggering amount. But ESPN say the Reds were able to sign the striker for so cheap because of his discipline problems

At the time of the transfer, Suarez was banned from Dutch football for biting an opponent

Trending  But Ajax were wary of the player's price dropping given his on-field conduct issues

As a result, Liverpool were able to land him on the cheap and the rest is now history

Meanwhile, Suarez recently praised Liverpool for their stunning season under Jurgen Klopp

But he stopped short of saying if whether or not he would seal a stunning return

"Currently we work for two different clubs so that's not an issue for me at the moment," he said

"But sure every player would like to train under Jurgen Klopp. "Anyone who has ever played in Liverpool remains connected to the club for a lifetime

"The team plays terrific football and I am very interested in how they will do this year

"I think we can still be prepared for a lot."

Lonzo Ball Trade Talk: Best 3-Team Lakers Deals for Anthony Davis | Heavy.com - Duration: 7:27.

Lonzo Ball Trade Talk: Best 3-Team Lakers Deals for Anthony Davis | Heavy.com

The chatter surrounding a potential Anthony Davis trade to the Los Angeles Lakers took somewhat of a strange turn just hours after the initial report.

While ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the New Orleans Pelicans star had requested a trade out of town, the Lakers grabbed the bulk of the immediate attention.

After all, Magic Johnson and company have made it known they're seeking a second star to pair with LeBron James, and Davis has remained the primary focus.

Now that the Pelicans seem likely to deal the All-Star forward, a very realistic outcome could be for the Lakers to make a deal happen.

Shortly after the trade report came to light, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reported a trade package from the Lakers would need to "start" with Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac and a first-round pick.

Whether or not that's a realistic asking price that the Lakers would consider is unknown, but it seems Ball's side is pushing for him to land elsewhere if he's included in a deal.

As The Athletic's Shams Charania cited Monday evening, Ball's camp apparently wants the second-year guard to go to a team who doesn't have an established point guard.

Sources: Should Lakers/Pelicans trade talks pick up, point guard Lonzo Ball's camp prefers Ball to be moved to a third team that doesn't have an established point guard.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) January 29, 2019    .

Although this may not wind up even having an impact on the talks, it's interesting to look at potential three-team deals involving the Lakers and Pelicans.

Fortunately, there are plenty of point guard-needy teams if the two sides agree to look into this option, so let's break down a few of them.

*Note: All trades created with ESPN's NBA Trade Machine.

Lonzo Ball Heads to Suns While Pelicans Add Josh Jackson.

ESPN NBA Trade Machine.

*Pelicans add 2019 first-round pick from Lakers.

To be clear, I'm basing these off the original trade rumor that came out, which was listed above.

The final potential deal may look nothing like this in terms of what the Lakers could give up for Davis.

Although it's apparent the Pelicans want Ball in the trade, adding a player in Josh Jackson who's flashed upside is nothing to turn your nose up at.

Beyond that, the Phoenix Suns are in desperate need of a point guard right now, and pairing Ball up with Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton would be a huge move.

Even beyond that, it would keep the team's young core happy and put them on the path to building a playoff team.

This deal makes a decent amount of sense across the board, and the Lakers add some depth in the form of shooting guard Ian Clark.

Dallas Mavericks Include Dennis Smith Jr.

In Anthony Davis Deal.

*Pelicans add 2019 first-round pick from Lakers.

If the Pelicans can't get Ball (they technically could) picking up an explosive young guard in Dennis Smith Jr.

is a strong addition.

He'd complement Kuzma and Zubac fairly well and would be a centerpiece, along with Kuzma, in the team's rebuild.

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to move Wesley Matthews' contract, and he'd be a fine addition for the remainder of the season in New Orleans.

As for the Mavericks outlook in this trade, they'd obviously be thrilled to land Ball, as he's a plug-and-play option next to Luka Doncic and Harrison Barnes.

While things may not have worked out with Smith, Ball could thrive as a pass-first point guard next to a few solid scorers, so Mark Cuban would surely have no problem jumping in here.

Orlando Magic Address Point Guard Need With Lonzo Ball.

*Pelicans add 2019 first-round pick from Lakers and second-rounder from Magic.

The Orlando Magic need to address their point guard situation, and while they likely don't want to part with Jonathan Isaac, I think an exception would be made here.

New Orleans could also walk away happy from this deal with multiple young and inexpensive players who have a tremendous amount of upside.

While I think Isaac is a talented player, there's a chance Orlando would have to toss in a second-round pick to sweeten their portion of the offer.

He's simply less proven than Jackson and Smith in the other two deals, so giving the Pelicans another piece in the deal would make sense for the overall outlook.

Cooling for All - Duration: 2:26.

Cooling is not a luxury

Cooling might be something you take for granted,

but across a warming world,

1.1 billion people without access to cooling face increasing risks to their health

and their productivity because they can't store fresh food,

receive a safe vaccine, or find shelter in a heatwave.

Cooling isn't a luxury, for people are depending on it to realize the Sustainable Development Goals

and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

That's because without cooling,

workplaces are uncomfortable, and schools can be too hot to learn in

With cooling, workers are more productive, and children can better concentrate in the classroom.

When cold chains are intact,

food keeps its nutritional value and vaccines arrive safely in rural villages.

So who is at risk?

The 1.1 billion at risk include 470 million rural people.

They probably don't have good electricity for transport

and farmers among them don't have access to reliable cold chains to sell their goods.

Their medical clinics may not have cold storage,

putting lives at risk from spoiled vaccines.

It also includes 630 million slum dwellers.

Children and adults who may have electricity but it's unreliable.

They may not be able to afford a fan or a fridge

that could save their lives in a heatwave.

2.3 billion people represent a different risk.

They'll soon be able to afford an AC or fridge,

but the options available to them are inefficient,

and could cause a dramatic increase in emissions, making them carbon captive.

What are the solutions?

Solar power can help rural people run fans and fridges.

Cold storage and solar refrigeration for transport

can also help keep food fresh longer

and make sure vaccines arrive safely.

For the slum dwellers, simple solutions like cool roofs and walls can keep temperatures down.

They also need financing tools to buy energy

efficient fans and fridges.

For carbon captives,

performance standards ensure they have efficient affordable appliances.

Building codes, vegetation and ventilation are other good ways to keep them cool.

Governments need to understand who is most at risk

and must develop National Cooling Plans that address the needs of these vulnerable people.

Cities can also help protect citizens from heat extremes.

The global community, including the private sector,

must support these efforts by testing solutions

that are ready for scale, are affordable, and don't cause a dramatic increase in emissions.

Together, we can provide cooling for all.

Hundreds of millions of people are depending on it

Real Madrid have decided to offer Chelsea one player for Eden Hazard - Eduardo Inda - Duration: 2:56.

Real Madrid want Chelsea forward Hazard as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season

The Belgium international has regularly talked up a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, saying in October: "Real Madrid is the best club in the world

"I don't want to lie, it is my dream since I was a kid. "We will see. I don't want to talk about this every day

I don't have time, but we will talk about my future soon. "In my head, sometimes I wake up in the morning and think I want to go

Sometimes I think I want to stay. It is a hard decision. It is my future. I am 27 and I will turn 28 in January

"It is also when you have a dream and you want to make it happen. It is like I have said a lot of times: if I leave I will be happy, I know if I stay I will be happy

" And Ok Diario director Inda has now claimed Real will offer Chelsea Kovacic as part of any Hazard deal

Kovacic moved to Stamford Bridge on loan from the La Liga giants back in the summer

And Inda says Real would love to cut him loose in order to lower Hazard's free. "There is a player who, except for a surprise, will sign for Real Madrid

It's Eden Hazard," he said.  "Chelsea speaks of 100 million euros. "Madrid has a player on loan there, who is Kovacic, and wants to include him in the operation and that at most costs him 30 million euros

" Hazard has been urged to DEMAND a move to Real by Chelsea hero Michael Ballack. Ballack said: "Eden Hazard has to decide if he wants to stay or not

"He's not only an outstanding player at Chelsea but also in the Premier League. "Now he has to decide if he wants to play at an ultimate top club

"That's what he's already communicated from time to time. "In my opinion he is a little bit coo calm, especially at Chelsea

"There should be more demanding and expressing of his wishes. "He can do that because he is in an outstanding position

"If he wants to win more titles with Chelsea, something has to happen otherwise Eden Hazard will think about looking for another opportunity

"

News24 - Deja vu for Chelsea and Manchester United in the FA Cup - Duration: 2:51.

Chelsea and Manchester United will meet in the FA Cup for the fifth time in the last six years, including replays, following the draw for the fifth round

Here, we take a look at the most recent cup clashes between the Premier League giants

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United - FA Cup final, 2018  Eden Hazard's first-half penalty was enough for Chelsea to lift the trophy in what was manager Antonio Conte's last game in charge

Alexis Sanchez had a goal ruled out for straying just offside, with referee Michael Oliver using the video assistant referee (VAR) to confirm the call

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United - Sixth Round, 2017  A stormy clash at Stamford Bridge was settled by N'Golo Kante's 51st-minute goal, with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho furious with the decision by referee Oliver to send off midfielder Ander Herrera in the first half

Manchester United 2-2 Chelsea - Quarter-Final, 2013  Goals from Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney gave the home side a two-goal lead after just 11 minutes at Old Trafford, but Chelsea staged a superb second-half comeback and secured a replay thanks to goals from substitute Eden Hazard and Ramires

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United - Quarter-Final, 2013  Demba Ba's athletic volley shortly after half-time ended United's bid for the domestic double and set up a semi-final with Manchester City at Wembley

United, who were without the injured Wayne Rooney, failed to score for the first time in 23 matches in all competitions

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United - Final, 2007  Didier Drogba scored the only goal of the game just four minutes from the end of extra time to secure a cup double for Chelsea, although the first FA Cup final at the new Wembley was a largely forgettable affair

Given their history in the competition, we shouldn't have been surprised when their names were drawn together for this year's fifth round, but with the Blues having home advantage, no doubt they will be confident of booking their spot in the quarter-final
