Waching daily Nov 2 2018

One of the biggest talking points we've seen coming of Republicans as we get closer and

closer to the midterms, now just a couple of days away, is that if you vote for Democrats,

it's going to tank the economy.

Republicans have done a phenomenal job creating jobs, keeping the economy booming, corporations

are pulling in record profits, big banks are actually making more money than ever, and

if we elect Democrats, all of that goes away.

Now, of course, those talking points ignore the fact that this economic boom actually

started under the Obama administration and he's basically the reason it's as good as

it is today.

Some of it is obviously Trump's economy.

You got to give him that.

In fact, last month, October, data just came out this morning from the Labor Department.

In October, we had a 250,000 new jobs record high right there for this administration.

Wages went slightly up.

the economy, technically, according to Labor Department, Republicans, and all available

statistics, is doing its best since it has since 2009.

But here's the problem.

Those statistics don't dig any deeper than just counting who has a job and who doesn't

have a job.

The number of people who do not have a job is about to get much, much higher.

Major corporations in the United States have announced recently that they are going to

be laying off thousands upon thousands of workers in the very near future.

Ironically, these companies have also posted record profits this year, and that's still

not enough to save the jobs of thousands of American workers.

These are good jobs.

GM, the largest automaker in the United States for example, is offering 18,000 employees

a buyout, which means they're voluntarily going up to 18,000 employees saying, "Listen,

if you agree to leave," and these are only applied to people who've been there for over

12 years and are working salary, "if you agree to leave, quit your job right now, we'll give

you X amount of money."

They're trying to buy off people to get them to quit.

Because, if not, eventually they're going to be laid off.

Then that looks bad on the company.

They just had 18,000 layoffs as opposed to, wow, 18,000 people were given a severance

and they agreed to leave and go find employment elsewhere.

If you get laid off, you qualify for uninsurance.

Uninsurance.

Sorry.

Unemployment benefits.

So, the companies are trying to save face.

They're trying to make everything look like it's okay.

But deep down, they're trying to cut workers and that's not being counted in this so-called

economic recovery, not to mention the fact that wages for average American workers have

actually fallen.

We make less today than we did 10 years ago.

Those numbers aren't being properly counted because when you factor in the wages of the

top 1% that have reached a record high, they're now pulling in over $700,000 a year on average,

so yeah, that's going to average out to a wage increase, even though it only goes to

the top 1%.

But that's something the statistics don't tell you.

You have to dig a little deeper.

That is exactly what this administration is afraid of.

They're afraid that if people understand that massive layoffs are coming, if they understand

that people have lost their jobs due to the trade wars, and if they understand that their

wages aren't actually going up, they're just being averaged in to the increases for the

top 1%, then they might actually understand that, yeah, there may be an economic recovery,

but it's only happening for those at the top.

Does RAM speed matter for INTEGRATED GPUs? DDR4 RAM speeds tested! - Duration: 7:16.

Lots of people play games on Integrated GPUs.

While "serious" gamers love to sat that no one in their right mind would game on an integrated

their ubiquity makes them likely candidates when you have no other option or are on a

really low budget.

Especially considering how good some integrated GPUs are getting.

But here is a question that has caused fights in a lot of my comments sections and has gotten

people to send some really angry messages.

How important is RAM speed on Integrated GPUs?

When you look at the theory of how a GPU works it makes sense.

In super, super simplified means the CPU sends GPU instructions and data

on what it needs to render.

On a dedicated GPU there is specialized ram included, VRAM, that stores the textures,

shadows maps and anything else the GPU needs to render and also stores the frame buffer

with the finished frames, so bigger textures, more complex shadows or triple buffering requires

GPUs with more VRAM.

Because of this if you have a dedicated GPU with enough VRAM you can get away with ludicrously

slow RAM that will make load times significantly longer but the game will work ok once loaded.

But an integrated GPU has no VRAM and so the system assigns dynamically a part of the regular

old RAM as VRAM and that means that if your RAM is slow you can potentially run into lower

performance not because the GPU is slow but because it has to wait too long to get data

from the RAM for every frame.

But how big is this effect really?

To find out I took my delicious new Athlon APU which uses some really good integrated

Vega graphics and a fuckton of RAM all at different speeds to see how much of a difference

it would make over 3 games.

CSGO on 720 on the older spectrum, Far Cry 5 on the vanilla lowest settings for a new

game and why not? GTA V on 720 but with a tweaked super low config file for performance.

Also as a bonus data, let´s use blender!

Blender is a free open source 3D modelling program that is widely used worldwide and

that provides an easy to use the free benchmark that simulates the rendering of a scene and

that can stress the GPU quite heavily.

And if you want to become an expert in 3D modelling in Blender I can point you to some

excellent premium courses in Skillshare, this video Sponsor buuut I can already feel some

of you going for the skip button so I well will leave that for later.

Don´t worry, Skillshare will come.

You can´t scape.

YOU WILL BE EDUCATED FOR A REASONABLE FEE.

Part 1: Dual Channel vs Single Channel

All of these RAM sticks can be run on the same speed, but this 8 GB in one stick and

this is 8 GB in 2 4 GB sticks for Dual Channel.

Using a dual channel which includes two sticks provides more channels of communication

so you get better reading speed even though the speed of each stick is the same.

And I think there are kits of 3 or 4 channels, but I have never seen any of those in real

life because I will never be able to afford one of those motherboards.

But you will notice the difference between dual and single channel.

The effect on CSGO is not as dramatic but more bandwidth-heavy games like Far Cry 5

or the memory intensity that is the GTA V benchmark saw differences in like 30% to 20%.

If there is one thing that I want you to take away from the video for sure is that dual

channel on integrated GPU makes a big difference.

In Blender there was definitely a difference, with about 10 minutes shaved from the render

time.

Nothing mind-blowing but some parts of the rendering process where definitively limited

by memory bandwith.

Part 2: Dual Channel!

I tested on 3 different RAM speeds and there are several points that are important to comment.

First 2133 MHz dual channel, the slowest speed that I tested, actually did better than 2400

MHz on a single channel.

If you have to decide between slower dual channel RAM and faster single channel, better

to go with the slow dual channel.

Second, I wish I could tell you it is as simple as if ram is 20% faster means 20% more frames

but games are complicated and memory bandwidth is just one component in this big machine

that is a GPU.

For example, CSGO and Far Cry 5 are not as bandwidth intensive as a Grand Theft Auto

which has this giant map that needs to be streamed in the middle of the benchmark so,

the performance of CSGO and Far Cry 5 is not as affected when jumping from 2133 MHz to

2400 MHz and you finally see a decent jump on 2666 MHz, the max compatible ram speed

for this Athlon.

GTA V does ok in 2133 MHz but really jumps on 2400 MHz and it kinda stays there.

So, what did I learn from this?

Yeah if you want the best performance you use the fastest RAM big surprise but as long as

you avoid single channel RAM like the plague there can be a bit of a sweet spot for certain

games.

If you are playing something that involves moving rapidly through big worlds you likely

are going to do better with a bit more memory bandwidth and it will depend a lot about your

country too.

In my case paradoxically I see the the fastest RAM kit as cheaper.

How does this make any sense is beyond me.

But if in your country 2400 MHz is vastly cheaper than 2666 MHz you can get away with

it as long as it is dual channel.

How expensive is a dual channel 8 GB kit in these 3 speeds in your country?

Let me know, I am really curious.

And blender sees... mixed results?

Sometimes render times go slightly higher on faster RAM which likely means that memory

bandwidth is no longer the main concern for this sort of productivity, so your main concern

if using software like this is going dual channel rather than just faster ram.

But if your concern is that you do not know how to use Blender at all

to the solution is easy.

You know what it is, it´s Skillshare!

The premium website for 20,000 classes in design, business, technology including many

courses on many levels for Blender so if you want to start creating models for a video

game or for an animation or you are just curious of how to get started, the

FEMA Deputy Associate Administrator for Insurance and Mitigation Visits Florida Panhandle - Duration: 1:50.

Roar of Wind and Rain

These are Habitat for Humanity homes of Bay County. they were built in 2016 2017.

There is a minimum code requirement, we built to the... exceed the minumum code

requirements and thus they have very little damage and structural issues associated

with the storm.

Hi Eric. Nice meeting you, sir.

Folks that work in FEMA and in the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration is

committed to getting a better understanding that there are risks and we can do something

about those risks and the consequences, but it takes action and the commitment to be

able to understand that mitigation works. Building codes, strong building codes pay

dividends down the road.

So the house behind me is proof that it doesn't have to cost a lot of money to build

good mitigation practices into home construction. Next time there is a hurricane

it may be necessary for people to evacuate and businesses to close, but stronger

building allow families, businesses and communities to recover faster once the

storm has passed. FEMA has resources available online at fema.gov that can help you

protect your home and business. Hurricanes are a fact of life in coastal communities,

but devastating loses don't have to be.

Sina Grace on Working for Boom Studios! - Duration: 2:34.

Sina Grace on working for BOOM! Studios Omar: This was your second or third thing

with Boom!? How many things have you done with Boom! before?

Sina: I've done a handful of things.

I did some Adventure Time stuff years ago, I did some Regular Show stuff a few years

ago, I did a short story in their Boombox Collection.

Omar: I remember that.

Sina: Shannon Watters for the win, really amazing editor.

I just made creepy eye contact when I said that, doing it again.

And I did something for Bee and Puppycat.

I did this part, I did a Power Rangers cover.

Yeah, I've done a lot of little things here and there...

Omar: What's the process been like working with Boom!?

What's it been like, who...?

Sina: It's very curious, I love them so much and just think I might, I think I'm either

difficult or expensive or something.

I'm not like these like college kids, like these Tumblr kids, like they just turn pages

out so fast and I'm like yo!

And I do meet all my deadlines but like I don't...

Omar: Set unrealistic deadlines.

Sina: And I don't rush, like I like the pages, I want the pages to be really good.

So, I don't know, yeah, it's just a matter of like you've got to constantly chime in

and check in and be like "I am here, let me know if you have any opportunities", and like

you got audition for things, you're not going to get them all the time.

Omar: That's life, you have to experience a certain amount of failure to get to success,

that's...

Sina: Oh yeah, and it's ,and no matter, there's no, I talked about this a lot with a friend

of mine, like there's no, and in our humble opinions and in our perspectives, like there's

never a point where you're not auditioning for something with somebody, like the stakes

just get higher and the situations maybe get like a little more mellow, like I don't have

to jump through so many hoops or I don't have to like prove myself or beg for things, but

like you do constantly always have to make a case for yourself.

So, that's what I do, it's like periodically, I'll send documents or things over and I'll

be like, "this is where I'm at right now, like this is reflective of like the kind of

material I've been putting out, this is who I am, my perspective today, let me know if

you want to work together".

Omar: You send those emails to different editors?

Sina: Yeah, I send them to editors all the time.

Omar: Oh, that's cool.
