Waching daily Oct 4 2018

These days, it seems like everyone is making money on the side.

Your brother drives for Uber, your mother rents out your old room on AirBnB, your sister

sells candles that smell like your grandma, and your grandma is running a quilting blog.

Almost 44 million Americans are reported as having a "side hustle".

Most people start them for one of two reasons:

1:They want more income.

Or 2: They want to start carving a path out of their

current job.

A side-hustle can definitely help you achieve these goals, but not without proper research

and planning.

So here are five things you need to know to make sure that your side-hustle won't be

hustling you.

[MUSIC]

This is Jenny.

Jenny wants to quit her job and work for herself selling sweaters for hedgehogs.

After all, she's a member of the 20,000-strong HEDGEHOGS FO LYFE Facebook group.

If just 10% of those people bought a $30 sweater, that's $60,000!

That's a nice dream, but before she starts knitting, it's time for a reality check.

Are there people out there who are currently making money at a venture like this?

According to research done by Earnest Lending, 85% of side-gig workers make less than $500

a month.

AirBnB has the highest average profit of $924 a month.

Uber comes in 4th at $364 a month and Etsy (where Jenny's hedgehog sweaters will probably

end up) is number 7 at a measly $151 a month.

Maybe Jenny should sell a more established product--like supplements or makeup--with

one of those network marketing companies.

After all, she's got facebook friends who are always looking for new recruits.

If you're considering joining up with a network marketing company, be extra cautious.

According to a government study, only 1% of network marketing participants actually turn

a profit.

By law, these companies have to share some of their financial data with you, like average

income.

Before diving into any new venture, you should seek out every piece of information you can

get your hands on that will give you some idea of how much you can realistically expect to

make.

This is Tim.

Tim found out that the going price of used textbooks almost doubles around the beginning

of the school year.

So, he figures if he sinks his savings of $8,000 into a metric ton of Intro to Biology,

he can sell them on Amazon in September and double his money!

Not so fast, Tim.

Just because you're not making a product doesn't mean you won't have COSTS.

Tim will need somewhere to keep all those books for the next 6 months, which means renting

a storage space; each book will have to be mailed to the buyer, which means 400 individual

packing and shipping fees; and online retailers like Amazon take a cut of every sale you make.

Congratulations, Tim, you're still making a profit, but when you calculate how much

time you're spending listing, selling, packaging, driving from the storage space to the post

office… how much are you really making per hour?

Essentially, Tim is the sole investor in his own company, and no smart investor would put

a single dollar into a new venture without seeing a honest list of expected costs and

revenues.

If you want your side hustle to be a real business, you've got to treat it like one.

Which brings us to...

Kendra wanted to make some extra money so she started driving for Lyft on weekends.

After 6 months, she had more cash in her pocket and decided she liked it more than her day

job.

But since all the costs and earnings were mixed up with her personal finances, she can't

tell whether it's a good idea to go full-time.

If Kendra had started a separate bank account for her rideshare income, and paid for expenses

like gas, maintenance and car insurance strictly from that account, she'd have a much clearer

idea of how profitable her side-hustle really is.

You don't need anything fancy.

Just open a separate account in your individual name at the place you're currently banking.

It's a simple way to keep track of your new income, and will make your life way easier

come tax-time.

Speaking of which….

After a year, Kendra's made enough extra money to put a down payment on a new car!

There's just one problem.

This is the most consistently nasty surprise we see sneaking up on side-hustlers.

They've been making money from a new business but haven't put ANYTHING aside for when

the government comes knocking.

We can't stress it enough: Do not make this painful mistake!

If it's your first year as a side-hustler and you don't know how much you'll have

to pay in taxes, start by setting aside 25% of every dollar you earn for Uncle Sam.

After your first year of business, you will be required to pay an estimate of your taxes

on a quarterly basis.

Just go to this website to set up an online account directly with the IRS.

Believe it or not, they actually make it pretty easy to pay them.

Jenny's hedgehog sweater company is really taking off thanks to an endorsement in Erinaceidae

Aficionado.

But is it safe to quit her job at the widget factory?

Before she leaps out of that plane, she needs to make sure her parachute is big enough.

First off: Does your side-hustle profit equal at least half of what you make at your day

job?

If Jenny makes $3,300 a month at Widgets, Inc. and her side-hustle is making a profit

of $2,000 a month, she's probably in a safe position to give her two weeks notice.

Second: Does she have 3 months worth of expenses saved up for emergencies?

82% of small businesses fold because of cash flow problems.

If the market for hedgehog sweaters temporarily dips, Jenny will need those funds to stay

afloat until it goes back up again.

If that means she has to keep her day job for a little while longer… well, that's

better than having to ask for it back!

This might seem like a lot of work and planning for something that was supposed to be "on

the side," but it's essential that before you invest your time and money into a new

venture, you understand what you're getting into.

It's not uncommon for people, once they find out what's actually involved in starting

a side business, to decide they like their day job more.

That's why your side hustle should be something you genuinely like to do.

After all, extra money only has value if it's contributing to your overall happiness.

And that's our two cents!

Did you see what turned up at Arsenal training? This is BRILLIANT - Duration: 3:40.

The Gunners flew out to Azerbaijan earlier this week ahead of today's meeting against with Qarabag

Unai Emery put his players through an intense session at the Baku Olympic Stadium in preparation for the Europa League clash

And at the end of training, the players couldn't resist saying hello to a cat who turned up at the side of the pitch

Players including Sead Kolasinac and Sokratis Papastathopoulos were seen greeting their newest feline fan as they finished the session

Emery's side are having an impressive run of form, securing seven wins on the bounce in all competitions

But the Gunners boss is well aware of the threat Qarabag pose to his side. He said: "With Qarabag, we have a lot of respect for them

"They started with a good performance against Sporting Lisbon in Lisbon in the first match

"They lost 2-0 but they gave a very good performance against them, with good players and also with good spirit and good tactical intentions in the game

"I remember also, last year here, Atletico Madrid there were two matches against them

They could not win. "It's for me, two very good examples for us to have the respect for them

"Also we have the confidence in our players to do the best performance tomorrow and also with our work, we can have a great match with a good performance for thinking only to win and to do one good match

" During his pre-match press conference, Emery was reluctant to discuss the reasons behind Henrikh Mkhitaryan's absence from the squad

Diplomatic tensions exist between Azerbaijan and Mkhitaryan's native Armenia following a long-standing conflict over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory

As a result, Mkhitaryan has opted to remain in England. "He cannot travel here," Emery said

"We are here, the players with the best mentality and preparation and possibility to play tomorrow

" Pushed on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, Emery was keen to keep everything football-related

"My work is football," he added. "I respect each person, I respect each people, I respect each culture, I respect each country

But I don't know each situation in every country. For me, he cannot play tomorrow

"There is respect for 'Mkhi' and respect for you. Today we are here with the opportunity to play well

"

The Real Reason Bristol Palin Is Getting Divorced - Duration: 4:39.

Bristol Palin first made headlines during her mom's unlikely run for vice president

in 2008, when she was just 17 at the time and pregnant with her first child, Tripp.

After two broken engagements with her baby daddy, Palin married Dakota Meyer, a U.S.

Marine veteran and Medal of Honor recipient in 2016.

Now, Bristol's on MTV's Teen Mom.

Here's how it all went wrong.

Trouble from the start

Just two months after Dakota Meyer proposed to Palin at a Rascal Flatts concert, the Palin

family announced that the May 2015 wedding was canceled.

"Mama Grizzly" Sarah Palin herself shared the news in a now-deleted Facebook posting.

In an unexpected twist, a little more than a month after canceling the nuptials, Bristol,

an abstinence advocate, announced she was expecting a baby.

She wrote on her official blog:

"I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends,

and to many of you.

But please respect Tripp's and my privacy during this time.

I do not want any lectures, and I do not want any sympathy."

Secrets don't make fiancés

We may never know the real reason Palin and Meyer decided to pump the brakes on their

wedding in 2015, but it might be because of a scandalous secret that leaked about a week

before they were scheduled to tie the knot.

Radar Online revealed Meyer had previously married a woman named Cassandra Wain back

in May 2008.

The couple reportedly divorced in March of 2010, but Palin was allegedly clueless that

her husband-to-be was a divorcé.

Wain's friend even took to Meyer's Facebook profile to unleash her venom, writing, in

part,

"What I'm not understanding is why this marriage to my best friend is something you are trying

to hide."

The friend also accused Meyer of contacting his ex-wife in October 2014, and she allegedly

asked him to, quote, "leave her alone and let it go."

Absentee daddy

Meyer wasn't present in the delivery room when Palin gave birth to their first daughter,

Sailor, but later posted about the birth on Facebook, calling her the "best Christmas

present ever."

A months-long custody battle soon followed, and Meyer was eventually granted joint legal

and physical custody of their daughter, according to People.

After finally getting married in June 2016, Palin was soon pregnant with their second

child and announced the news to the world in December.

Meyer was present for the birth of their daughter Atlee in May 2017.

It's too bad the happy moments between them wouldn't last for long.

Discord records

After less than two years of marriage, Meyer pulled the plug on their relationship in February

2018.

According to People magazine, Meyer cited, quote, "discord or conflict of personalities"

as the reason that their marriage had gone down the drain.

That discord was on display in a January 2018 vlog post ...

"Absolutely not.

Can I, like, paint my face before you do this kind of stuff?"

"No, it's going up just like this.

Raw footage."

According to divorce documents retrieved by People, Meyer said,

"[The discord] destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents

any reasonable expectation of reconciliation."

Dakota planning?

After filing for divorce in February 2018, Meyer reportedly wanted Palin to cover his

"attorney fees, expenses and costs through the trial," according to Radar.

A source told the website that Bristol's momma Sarah Palin was "furious" over his demands.

Was the marriage and divorce a money grab for Meyer?

An insider close to the situation told Radar that money was a point of contention, saying,

"What's really beyond any reasonable expectation is Dakota's belief that Bristol would EVER

give him any money for this divorce!"

A failed reconciliation

Fans were a little puzzled following the news that Meyer had filed for divorce because the

supposedly separated couple still carried on online as if they were married and head-over-heels

in love.

A source told People magazine that the family celebrated Easter together, and, by May 2018,

it looked as if the "discord" was behind them and that they were interested in rekindling

their relationship.

On Mother's Day, Meyer wrote a loving tribute to Palin, which read,

"Thank you for being a great mother and for providing me with a purpose in life that I

could have never fathomed before our beautiful healthy children."

But this supposed reconciliation was short-lived, as of September 2018, Palin and Meyer haven't

mentioned each other on social media in months.

Bouncing back

Bristol Palin didn't officially acknowledge her divorce until more than five months after

Meyer filed the legal documents.

When one of her Instagram followers asked if she was dating anyone, Palin replied,

"Freshly divorced & single forever lezzbereal (I am not ready to date)."

When asked if she'd ever get married again, she answered,

"Honestly (right this SECOND) no… my focus is on God & my kids… a relationship/guy

isn't even close on my radar."

Another area she plans to focus on is her reality TV career, after being tapped to join

the cast of MTV's Teen Mom OG.

"I don't want to raise my kids to think that this is what a marriage looks like, y'know?"

Being that she was a teen mom herself when she gave birth to her eldest son, Tripp, Palin

fits right in with the rest of the cast.

Divorce is the pits and being a single parent is tough, but, with her supportive family

and devoted fans in her corner, we have no doubt Palin will bounce back in no time.
