It's an annual event where grassroots Scouts
from around the world
are honoured and recognised
for the community development projects that they do
that contribute directly to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Each of the Scouts that you will hear from today
have been nominated by their peers,
in an open selection
from around the world and they're all
in their own unique way contributing to a culture of peace.
I'm really excited being here in New York,
the first time in New York,
and then for the Messengers of Peace Heroes
Award Ceremony
I'm really looking forward to it, it's going to be great.
Welcome here, welcome to New York City,
welcome to the UN General Assembly.
I'm really excited to spend
this couple of days with you. Welcome.
So we're on the 78th floor
of the Empire State Building,
only a few floors down
from where you have to pay
like $50 to see it.
I really feel
honoured to be here
with a lot of people
that come from a lot of countries
with a lot of stories.
It's nice to see that all of us
are coming together to kind of
spread a message of peace
and to help one another
because that's what we need.
Now I understand that
dreams can come true. If you try your best,
make a positive change,
and give a lot of effort and work hard
on the projects you want to do,
anything is possible.
Actually I thought I was the only person doing this
but since it's open now to me,
I know that all over the world
we are brothers and sisters
working to create a better world.
The Scouts for us,
from the UN,
we see it as the biggest youth organisation
that exists,
that does really wonderful work.
Once again,
thank you for the wonderful work you're doing.
Please do not stop,
just continue
every day with more strength,
with more commitment,
with greater love
for humankind and for this planet.
So thank you and it has been an honour
to meet you.
This is a programme
for real, genuine, hardworking,
grassroots leaders who are making
a difference to their world.
When I went through your profiles,
from
access to clean water
to the empowerment of girls and young women,
to law,
to local heritage,
to online safety,
you are proving that message,
that peace and security for us is not
only the absence of conflict,
but a holistic thing
of being able to live
to our fullest potential as young people
and I do salute you for that.
Hats off to all of you,
thank you so much for coming to the United Nations.
It is an honour for the United Nations
to have you here.
