Faye
Now I'm gonna be completely honest
She is my least favorite character of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
In a cast as diverse and dynamic as Echoes',
Is she sticks out more than a sore thumb,
with her basic anime trope personality reeking of the one-note character writing of Fates
In fact, the first time I played through the game
She may or may not have died, and I may have decided not to use the turn wheel on her
But recently, I've been replaying the game and when I was debating whether or not to simply leave her behind in Ram village
I thought I was being a little too harsh on her
So I decided to delve into her supports and other lines to see how she holds up. I'm Vthepizzaboy, and today
I'm gonna see if Faye
really is the worst character of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
First I want to start off with her Base Conversations
Conversation 1 starts with Fay asking Alm if he's used to all the fighting and complements him for being brave
She then starts to reminisce to the prologue,
and says Alm was her "Knight in Shining Armor"
Overall this conversation is cute and inoffensive
however
This takes a turn for the worst in
conversation 2, which starts with the Faye prying into Alm and Celica's fight at the end of Act II
She tries to cheer him up by saying Alm shouldn't rely on
Celica, since they've been apart for so long and that she doesn't know what's going through Alm's head
She then follows this up by saying:
This just comes off as off-putting
while Alm is vulnerable from his encounter with Celica,
Faye tries to sneak in and win Alm's affection
rather than in the last
conversation, where is a little obvious that Faye liked Alm, and she was just dropping hints,
here Faye
Forces it. She doesn't actually seem invested in Alm's
Happiness and just wants Alm for herself.
PAY ATTENTION, WE'LL SEE THIS ALOT
At the beginning of Conversation 3
Faye reflects on her progress, as she never expected herself to get that far
*and she didn't I first played
She then shows a worry for her family back in Ram village, and then reveals to Alm that
She actually sent letters to them. In a letter she received from them, they expressed
Their worry for her obsession with Alm, and want to hear how she's doing
But she finished off by saying:
As we will see later on, her obsession with Alm not only affects her but it also affects the
Relationships she has with her friends and family
Now let's move on to her supports
and I'll start with her support with Silque. Their C Conversation basically goes like this:
This is by far the worst support in the entire game
As I stated before,
Faye has no trouble pushing other people to get closer to Alm
Silque most likely doesn't feel 100% at ease being around an army composed
Entirely of men.
So she tries to seek comfort in the only other woman in the group: Faye
But, she has turned down simply for the fact that Silque isn't helping Faye's ultimate goal of being with Alm.
The only other
Possible reason I assume Faye turned her away is because of her slightly awkward
Wording, when she says she wants to speak of things that:
Which Faye then perceives as gossip
But that doesn't excuse her rude behavior
Blowing Silque off completely for simply wanting to talk to her, which again shows the selfish side of her
Faye and Silque's B Support starts with Silque approaching Faye with a compromise: Since she doesn't want to talk about anything
You know normal, Silque and Faye can talk about Alm
However, Faye disagrees with the idea since to her, simply talking about Alm while not in his presence is pointless
this is most likely because again,
She just wants to get closer to Alm, and talking to Silque is not helping her reach her goal
She then abruptly leaves again, leaving Silque confused. This brings up a question
How does she have any friends at all?
We know she grew up fairly close to the rest of the villagers: Tobin, Gray, and Kliff.
So how does she tolerate any sort of conversation with them? Would they always talk about Alm with her?
Was she just trying to use them to get closer to Alm? Or...
Was she different before the war?
Faye and Silque's A Support is definitely an improvement from her last two. This support actually starts with Faye
approaching Silque. Silque is
Understandably surprised by the change and Faye admits see missed having her company. The two then promise to talk more later
I've been very harsh towards Faye this entire video, but I really liked this ending. It promises for change in the future
Maybe she will move on from her obsession with Alm. Well, it's
TOO BAD SHE DOSEN'T
Her ending states that she never moved on from Alm,
And while she did get married her, husband was fully aware that she was still obsessed with him
So then, what was the point of this ending if she never moves on in the first place?
Now let's move on to her Supports with Alm
Their C Support starts at Faye approaching Alm and complementing him.
She then says:
Let's add some context to this line. They are out there, on a battlefield
fighting people, with lives, with families and Faye decides to kill as many people as possible to appease him. Alm is
rightfully confused by this statement and hopes for a better reason which then Faye responds with:
Faye doesn't let anything get in the way of her and Alm. It's one thing to want to protect your friends like most
Fire Emblem protagonists
but to mercilessly slaughtered dozens of people for the affection of just one person is simply
Unjustified. Now for their B Support, which is one of her most confusing ones this starts off with Faye approaching Alm again
who then asked how she is and
just
Prepare yourself
This shows her obsession with the Alm actually
Negatively impacts her, to the point where she loses sleep over the fact that he touched her hand
Alm then says something that really changed the way I looked at Faye:
Earlier in this video,
I asked how Faye even had friends due to how she treated Silque during their supports, but
This could explain it. She was a better person before the war
but after the war her obsessive and caring personality was brought to an extreme and
Due to this she was never the same again
In
Conclusion: is Faye really the worst character in Fire Emblem Echoes? I would still say yes
She is. However, she isn't as bad as I remembered
She isn't just a one-note character like the characters of fates
She has more to her, with how she's damaged after the war ends
I want to end off this video with this:
if you really like Faye like some of the people I've seen do
Then for her sake and yours just,
leave her in Ram Village.
