Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho: Portugal is the only place I truly feel myself
Jose Mourinho admits he only feels like himself when he is back in Portugal.
The Manchester United boss was back in his childhood city for a special occasion while his squad set off for the international break. Mourinho has had a road named after him in his hometown.
The Avenida Jose Mourinho in Setubal was unveiled for the first time yesterday, leading Mourinho to give an emotional speech to those in attendance. He said: I come to Setubal because I love Setubal.
Because my friends call me Ze and leave the Special One bull****. I am very grateful.
I trade tributes for victories and this is the only one I wouldnt trade. And it is clear despite his great success in England, he does not feel completely at home in the country, despite working in the Premier League for almost a decade.
Its a situation a little bit strange for me, because Setubal continues to be the only city where I feel like myself, Ze, Ze Mario, he added. Where people treat me normally and make me feel good.
Where I have made, and try to make, my profession a little extra to my essence, to who I am. Im pure Setubalense, with all the qualities and defects.
Jose Mourinho is in disbelief after being sent off against Southampton.
And because of this I am grateful for this honour and it makes me emotional. It is no secret Mourinho has struggled to settle into Manchester after moving to the city last year.
He is still living in the Lowry hotel after rejecting the chance to move into his own luxury accommodation. Mourinhos United side take on Liverpool after the conclusion of the international break in a 12.30 kick-off on October 14.
