- Should you give up or should you keep going?
And most people would always say,
"Keep going. Keep it in the working. Don't give up!",
especially when you've been told
that you can achieve something or someone's questioned it.
But it's not always a good thing to keep going.

You know it's really important to take a little bit of time
to ask yourself the truth.
Because I know you may want to prove to other people
you're doing the right thing
or you may think that, "I don't want to give up now
that I've put so much time into it,
or so much energy, or so much money."
But taking the time sometimes to ask yourself that truth,
Is it time for me to give up?
And here's a few really good ways to decide.
First ask yourself, is it still bringing me joy?
Things should bring you joy,
so is it still bringing you joy?
You'll know if it's bringing you joy or not.
Allow for times of frustration
and difficulty in what you're doing
and there's going to be challenges
but you know in your heart when something's right
and when you need to change it around
or if you need to tweak the journey you're on.
So just because you've started something,
it doesn't mean you need to keep going with it.
The important part is to ask yourself that honest question.
Is it still bringing me joy?
Is it going in the path that I want?
And if you need to give up, to let yourself do that
without seeing it as a failure.
Do you know what this is?
- [Female Voice] Whitethorn? - Whitehorn.
And you know what they say you can do with this stuff?
If you put like a leaf of that into your tea,
it's meant to be really good for your heart energy.
- [Female Voice] Oh really? - Ya
A little leaf in your tea.
I've given up on stuff loads of times.
First work I ever did was this beauty therapy
and I gave up on that, got kind of tired of it.
Then I went for acupuncture.
Then I did writing for a while.
I've changed directions so often and I think
giving up on stuff is a really healthy thing to do sometimes
because it gets you to change direction.
It gets you to try new things out.
I think there's a perception out there that if you give up
you've failed, and that's so common.
You know, you hear the thing, "Don't give up. Keep going.
"Keep following your dreams!"
And it can lead some people down a path of spending years
doing something that isn't necessarily right
but they just don't want to give up
and it's to prove to others that they can do it.
Whereas, if you come back to asking yourself,
am I really doing this for myself?
Or is it to prove something to other people?
And if you know the reason why you're doing it,
that makes a big difference.
So, then you give up if you feel something isn't right
because you're not that concerned about,
"What would other people think?"
It's big thing isn't it?
"I don't want to give up
"because what'll other people think of me?"
But I think the worst thing you can do
is keep at something that's really not your thing.
I think for a lot of people, if they can look at,
"Why am I doing it?
"Am I doing it to prove to someone else I can do it?"
And if that's the case,
then you need to question that completely.
Whereas, if you're having those doubts
or having those struggles,
it's normal to have doubts
I think no matter what you're doing,
whether it's in a relationship, or work.
It's normal to have the doubts,
but if you can just ask yourself in your heart,
is this what you really enjoy doing?
And if you're doing it for the right reasons like that,
then you keep going.
But if you're doing it to prove to other people
or to show that you're great at what you do
or to get recognition for it, I'd question it.
So, to give up on something, if it doesn't feel right
it takes real courage to give up,
because people always fear
that criticism of what would other people think.
So it takes real courage to give up
if it's the right thing to do.
And to know, you need to go to your heart.
I can see the cat over there playing at the ground.
