Cult of Chucky (2017) Mini Review - Fresh air, for an old killer. - Duration: 8:01.

So I finally watched this and all I have to say is that this perhaps is the most original

horror movie of recent years.

And trust me when I tell you, I wasn't expecting that at all.

A few years ago There was an attempt at rebooting the Child's Play franchise with Curse of

Chucky and it was a solid attempt for sure, it was flawed, with cliches, but still it

was decent enough to maybe compete with Child's Play 3, so I was excited to see what Don Mancini

was going to bring to us with Cult of Chucky this time.

BUT the trailer hit us not that long ago and I disliked it right away, for me, it was a

step backwards.

I was hoping for them to make something more refined than Curse of Chucky but it was clearly

not this.

I still saw it, I had to, we are like that, horror fans, always giving a chance to our

favorite franchises and…

I was blown the heck away.

Here's the thing, I even spent most of the movie just trying to find a sub-genre for

it and as far as I know, this is the first time I see a movie that takes itself both

so seriously and not seriously at all.

I liked the way they handled the plot, the little twists, I liked the cinematography,

it was not overdone in anyway, except when it was, and it was all in, it was absurd and

ridiculous, to the top.

If Curse of Chucky was an attempt to bring Chucky back to horror, Cult of Chucky is an

attempt all what Chucky is, good, bad and goofy and runs with it wildly, in fire.

But ok, ok, I'm running wild myself here.

Let's first talk about what Cult of Chucky is about.

First, this movie is a direct sequel of 2013 Curse of Chucky, the soft reboot to a beloved

horror series that started as a supernatural horror slasher film and ended up as a bad

comedy / parody of itself.

So, yeah, it's a franchise that has been all over the place and one would think it

could bring us nothing new right?

Wrong!

This movie continues the events of the last one, following one of the survivors of Curse

of Chucky, who was blamed for everything and sent to a psychiatric ward, after some shock

therapy and other things we don't see, she is later sent to a minimum security psychiatric

hospital to continue the therapy, but by then, she has now accepted she committed the murders,

in this place, to "help her", her doctor brings a Good Guy doll and then, the murders

start again.

So yeah, this movie returns to horror, completely, but also embraces the parody part to the bone,

and suddenly you feel like you are watching two movies, or that something is seriously

off with all of it.

It messes with the character's head and with yours too, at least partially, thus entering

into the realm of Psychological Horror, something I never thought it was going to do and if

you have followed this channel for a while, you know I LOVE Psychological horror, in a

way, I consider it to be the most refined side of horror, not the best, not the best,

just the most refined.

But this movie does something else, whenever you feel pulled into that side of the movie,

it throws an absurd scene at you, like Bride of Chucky's style, and it does so without

apologizing at all, it creates then an interesting situation, this stark and deliberate contrast

between the two sides of the movie makes you feel even more uneasy about the whole thing,

always making you doubt of what you are seeing and then even the jokes take a darker meaning

because, in theory, it may come all from the characters themselves.

Sounds ridiculous, right?

At this time, we all know Chucky is real in the movies, there is no doubt about it, but

somehow they still manage to make you wonder if that is the case.

What if everything is in the characters' heads after all?

What if it always has been?

Now, i don't want to spoil the fun for you guys, so seriously go watch it, just remember,

try to not take it too seriously… but take it seriously anyway.

It deserves it.

And as for the genre?

I think I'll call it a Psychological Dark Comedy Horror movie and give it a complete

3 and a half stars for being the best comedy Child's Play of the bunch and a decent addition

to the horror ones.

Now, let's go into spoiler territory, repeat, SPOILERS AHEAD:

So guys, tell me, what did you think of it?

Seriously, I'd love to know.

This movie has been so divisive abou- among fans.that, I don't know, i really want to

hear your opinion, specially after you've heard what I just said.

Ahm, I do have some criticism, of course.

The plot is not the best, over the whole movie I thought of many different possible explanations

for what was going on, from "everything is in their heads" to "The whole hospital

worships Chucky" to "everyone is insane and they are killing each other" and I was

really hoping for them to go all nuts with the explanation, I would have even accepted

an explanation where they said that Chucky was NEVER real, it would have been risky,

sure, but it would have been amazing for the series.

In the end, they went with the most straightforward part.

The movie apparently plays with you and with the characters, but not really.

Not in the end.

The simplest explanation was the real one all along, and that's something I critique

the movie for, you know, it-it could have been so much more.

They didn't take the risk at the end, they didn't change the status quo, they only

threw another ret-con, which these movies are known for doing almost every movie, and

left it at that.

Which is why I didn't rate it any higher actually, it has so much wasted potential.

In the end, there were many chucky dolls running around, all real.

The spell now works like that and it's a cool spin on it I think, with a lot of scary

possibilities added to it, but I don't think they will use it in the next movie, not completely,

but at least it gives us the possibilities, th-they are there.

You know?

I don't think, also I like the part in which Chucky is now in a person, but if you really

think it through, I think this was done just for this movie, as I believ the REAL chucky

is the one Andy has.

All the others are just shadows, that's just I see it, that's how I want to see

it, we will have to wait until the next one.

Ahm..

All in all, I have not much else to review about it.

Liked it.

As a horror movie, it was a decent flick, as a horror-comedy, it was funny and gorey.

And now, after many many years I'm actually excited to see what the next in this franchise.

Well, yeah, that's all, all I have to say now is welcome back Kyle, we missed you.

And let's see what comes next.

Thank you for watching, see you the next time and…

Dark Dreams.

Steve Moneghetti Training Plans - Preparing for Race-Day - Duration: 1:11.

Hi Steve Moneghetti here for the Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival right on the concourse at the 'G.

Just behind me? Race Week Office.

Where you pick up your race pack. So come on down...while you're here check out the exhibitors there will be a lot happening here.

We're in the final stretch! Here are my top three tips for getting you ready for race day.

Number one is tapering.

Freshening up to allow your body to recover to absorb all the training that you've done over so many weeks.

Number two is: make sure you're really well prepared.

Getting all your gear ready. So having your running gear out the night before, making sure you thinking about fueling up,

visualizing the course...make sure you're familiar with what the course entails, where you're running...

but also

This is where you start to enjoy the final lead into the event where you know it's going to be a great outcome.

And my final tip is I'm often asked what to read on race morning.

I just have a couple of bits of toast with Jam or Vegemite and a cup of tea just to settle the nerves

and calm the rumbling in your stomach.

After that, you're all set to go. Steve Moneghetti, see you at the start line of the Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival.

And you want better accommodations, how can you express yourself effectively?

And how you can advocate for yourself to communicate with your professors explaining your needs?

There are many different situations that DSAT will be beneficial. YES!
